The ACA incident.
(a prayer is answered)
Chapter 1 Awakening.
An old woman let out a long, pained groan as she slowly regained
consciousness. Trying, with some difficulty, she finally managed to
open one of her eyes and once she'd focussed on her surroundings she
realised that she was lying on her back on the linoleum floor of her
own kitchen. Her ancient and now badly damaged Bush transistor radio
was still valiantly throwing out it's tinny little tunes in the
background as it had done for the last forty-five years. Utensils and
dishes lay broken and strewn on the floor around her along with the
remnants of her partly eaten breakfast. For several seconds, possibly
minutes she was disorientated and wondered how she had gotten to be
lying on the floor in such pain. Slowly and with some horror she
started to remember, slowly at first she remembered one or two things
and then it all came flooding back to her 'had the men now gone?' she
thought to herself, her eyes still trying to focus on the clothes
dryer suspended from the ceiling above her, She tried to get up by
rolling onto her side but immediately felt stabbing pains in several
areas of her chest where unbeknown to her ribs had been broken by evil
the men who had recently both invaded her body and her house.
This old lady's plight may however have become just another police
statistic but for one thing, she is called Grace Percy and she is the
Mother of Terry Percy who in turn is almost a family member to Joy
Stevenson 'The Angel'.
It was now just over twenty minutes since Grace had regained
consciousness from her ordeal and she had with some difficulty managed
to pull herself into a sitting position with her back being supported
against the door of one of her kitchen units whilst she sat on the
linoleum floor of her kitchen, her cardigan and blouse and bra were
torn and partly hanging off her shoulders partly exposing one of her
large mature breasts, Grace's skirt was up at her waist and her tights
were ripped and laddered, large bruises were now starting to form on
her face and her left eye was almost closed due to the swelling from
her broken cheekbone.
Grace was now rapidly going into shock from her ordeal and tried to
cover her exposed body as best she could.
"Oh dear," she said to herself as she wondered what she should do
next.
Grace had been left a chilling warning by her attackers that if she
went to the police or talked to anyone about their attack they would
be back and next time they would kill her.
Several minutes later Grace had managed to locate the new phone that
her son had recently bought her in the bottom of the tea towel drawer
and after fumbling with it for several seconds switching it on, she
located and pressed the icon marked 'Terry' on the touch screen, Grace
was now terrified and really needed him to be with her 'Terry will
know what to do' she reasoned, Grace listened as the phone dialled but
then an automated female voice said, "Redirecting"
At that same moment, just across the other side of the city centre to
the East...
Joy Stevenson and her wife Alice were having a sly day-off from work
and were combining a shopping trip with visiting their eldest
daughter. Susan, in Newcastle. Susan, who was studying Engineering at
University in Newcastle, had just returned to the dining room of Joy's
old family home, which she shared during some weekdays with her good
friend Trish, with a tray of sandwiches for lunch when Joy's mobile
phone went off.
Joy took her phone from her old battered and bloodstained school
satchel and said with a smile: "It's Grace, Terry's mum, he must have
redirected her number whilst he was away on 'business'," Joy answered
the phone with a smile as she really liked Grace.
"Hello Grace, it's lovely to hear from you."
"H,hello who's that?" asked the voice.
"It's Joy, Terry's friend."
"Joy, Is Terry there?" Joy sensed almost immediately from the
quivering tone of grace's voice that something was wrong, terribly
wrong with the old lady
"I'm sorry Grace he isn't, he's away at the moment can I help you
though?"
"Oh no, I don't want to be a bother."
Joy asked, "Grace what's the matter you sound upset?" directly there
was a very long pause before Grace finally replied: "They hurt me Joy,
they did things..." Grace then broke down as she talked and started to
weep.
Alice was already putting her coat on and getting the car keys from
her handbag when Joy said, "I'll be with you in fifteen minutes Grace.
Don't worry you'll soon be safe."
Joy, Alice, Susan and Trish all got into Joy's old Saab99 less than a
minute later.
Alice drove at speed towards Grace's house in the West end of the
city, Alice had insisted on driving as Joy was now on the phone to Bob
at 'The Centre' and was explaining to him that Grace had been
attacked, Bob told Joy to assess Grace's condition and ring him back
immediately she'd got to Grace's house, Joy was now fearing the worst
for Grace as she knew her to be a very strong and fiercely independent
woman who wasn't easily scared.
As Joy's Saab neared Grace's ex-council house Joy removed her heels
and slipped a pair of more suitable flat's onto her feet, then as the
car pulled up by the kerb opposite Grace's house Joy quickly got out
followed by her daughter, they both went to the boot of the car and
Joy opened it, she then lifted up the floor carpet and placed a key
into the lock of a very sturdy steel box that had been welded to the
rear subframe member, upon opening the box Joy removed her Glock17 and
her daughter took the other pistol from the padded box, a Sig Sauer
P226.
Joy quickly placed her now loaded pistol into her satchel and Susan
followed by placing her own pistol into her shoulder bag.
Joy then returned to her wife who was still sitting behind the
steering wheel of the Saab.
"Keep the engine running Alice and if there is any sign at all of
trouble drive away find a busy public place then contact Aliza
immediately."
Alice acknowledged her wife and wound the window of the Saab back up.
Joy then headed across the street towards Grace's house with her
daughter.
"I'll go around the back Suzy, you wait to the side of the front door
out of sight until I let you in" Instructed Joy as she opened the
front gate to Grace's house, Susan nodded at her mother who was now
cautiously making her way across the lawn and then around the side of
the house towards the back garden and the entrance to Grace's kitchen.
As Joy reached the rear door to the house leading into the kitchen she
noticed wood splinters on the door frame where the keep of the sturdy
mortice lock had once been, it had been kicked in causing the wood to
splinter, she cautiously looked in through the window and could
clearly see the dishevelled form of Grace, Terry's mum, sitting on the
floor with her back against kitchen units, she was weeping quietly to
herself. Joy pulled the Glock out of her bag and whilst holding it
firmly in front of her using both hands entered the kitchen giving
Grace an unwelcome fright as she did so.
"Mrs Percy Is there anyone still in the house?" Joy asked quietly as
she entered. Grace looked up at Joy, she'd not seen her like this
before and it scared her.
"N, no I don't think so."
Without a further look at Grace, Joy went through the kitchen to check
the rest of the downstairs area. Once clear she opened the front door
and let her daughter in.
"Mrs Percy has been badly beaten and from the look of it I believe
that she may also have been sexually assaulted, sit with her and I'll
check upstairs."
Susan, although a little shocked at what her mum had just said, went
straight through into the kitchen without hesitation to comfort Grace.
After checking that the upstairs to Grace's house was indeed clear Joy
came back downstairs with a robe for Grace to put on over her torn
clothing, Joy now allowed herself the luxury of showing a little
emotion once more and placed her Glock back into her satchel.
"Could you ask your mum to come in please Susan; and contact Bob for
me with an update and get an eta for his arrival?"
"Okay mum I'll give you a couple of minutes before we return."
Joy then turned to Grace.
"I've brought you a gown Grace, I'll help you to cover up" Joy then
gently helped Grace on with the gown to cover her torn clothes and
restore a small amount of dignity to her old friend and Terry's mother
whilst all the time assessing Grace's injuries.
"I'm sorry Joy, I really don't want to be a bother to you."
"You are not a bother Grace and you are anything but okay, please try
not to worry though I won't let anyone hurt you any further," Joy
gently held the brave old woman as she clung to Joy, she then started
to weep into Joy's shoulder.
Joy was joined very quickly by Alice, Trish and Susan, Alice helped
Joy to take Grace into the living room whilst Susan stayed in the
kitchen with a stunned Trish.
Several minutes later as Grace was sipping on a warm sweet cup of tea
that had been provided by Trish, Joy entered the kitchen area.
"What did Bob say Susan?"
"He was just approaching the Durham turn off with Dr Simmons and a
nurse when we spoke, he said to try and keep Grace calm warm and as
comfortable as possible, he's managed to get hold of Aliza she's on
her way up too and should arrive soon."
"I need to find out why this happened Susan, was it somehow because of
me?"
"Mum don't even think that."
It was during a lull in their conversation whilst sipping her own cup
of tea that Joy heard Grace in the living room she was becoming very
agitated.
As Joy entered the living room Alice was trying to calm an
increasingly distressed Grace.
"The poor bairn, the bairn next door they were going for her next,"
Grace kept repeating.
"Grace, which house were they going to?" asked Joy urgently
"Number 10, next door, they said they were going to shut her up, oh
lord," Joy once again removed her Glock from her old satchel and
quickly headed out of the living room.
"Look After your mum and Mrs Percy," Joy said to Susan as she passed
her and exited the kitchen door.
As Joy entered the open back door of number 10 she held her Glock in
front of her using both hands once more, but the house appeared to be
empty. It was then that she noticed the blood stains on the dark
carpet of the stairs that led up, Joy cautiously followed the trail of
blood droplets upstairs and up to the small back bedroom, the door was
locked so Joy kicked it in whilst staying out of the line of fire but
as the door came to a crashing stop against the wall she heard a
whimper from behind a small single bed.
"I'm armed, come out with your hands behind your head."
The next noise that Joy heard was a one of pure terror, she quickly
moved to its source and found a young woman huddled cowering between
the bed and wall shaking violently, her wrists were wrapped in bloody
tea towels. Joy placed her Glock once more into her satchel and
approached the terrified young woman who flinched violently when Joy
touched her.
"I'm a friend, I mean you no harm, may I see your wounds please?"
"No, no I'll be good I promise."
"I'm not here to hurt you, I just need to assess your injuries Miss,
please let me?"
The young woman, who was absolutely terrified, shied away once more
from Joy.
"May I help?" asked Trish, who had followed Joy and had just entered
the bedroom, Joy nodded and backed off, Trish moved nearer to the
young woman and said, "Hello my name is Trish and this is my very good
friend Joy, she's here to protect you now, may we look at your wrists
please?"
The young terrified woman turned to Trish and hesitantly showed her
wrists, Trish gently unwrapped the first towel.
Blood oozed slowly out of a large cut on her wrist, Joy came forward.
"It's lucky that the wound is not too deep Miss," Joy turned to Trish:
"I have a first aid kit in the boot of the car would you get it for me
please," Trish nodded at her friend and quickly got up to retrieve the
first aid kit.
Joy sat on the carpet next to the still terrified young woman.
"My name Is Joy, I'm sorry that I scared you but I promise that I am
here to help you."
"R, really?"
Joy smiled reassuringly at the pretty young woman. "Soon some more
friends of mine will arrive, one of them is a medical Doctor, will you
let him treat your wounds please?"
The young woman just nodded.
"And will you allow me to take you to a place of safety, somewhere
that you will be safe from any further harm?"
The shocked young woman nodded once more.
Trish returned a short while later and watched whilst Joy re-dressed
the young woman's wrists with sterile field dressings.
Trish held the young woman gently and attempted to reassure her that
she was now safe whilst Joy returned to her wife in the house next
door.
As Joy entered Grace's living room Susan who was standing by the lace
curtains that covered the living room windows said, "Mum there's a guy
just down the street, he's been watching this house for some time and
he's been on his phone a lot too." Joy turned to Grace.
"I'm really sorry to ask you this Grace but could you have a look at
the person down the street for me please?"
Alice helped Grace up from her chair and she slowly limped over to the
window, Joy could tell immediately from Grace's face that this was one
of her attackers
"He, he was there Joy In the background when I was...", Joy didn't
hear the rest of what Grace had just said as she was already leaving
Grace's ex-council house by the rear door, Joy leapt over the small
fence at the rear of the garden and after going through the garden of
the house opposite she entered the next street along, Joy then doubled
back and came up behind the person so clumsily observing Grace's
house.
"Hello," said Joy to the man who was half crouched behind a wall.
"Wot?"
"I said hello."
The young loutish man then turned Joy's way and said, "Look Missus I'm
busy."
"Oh really doing what, are you playing hide and seek?"
"Eh?"
"I assume that you are hiding from the people in that house over
there," Joy pointed at Grace's house.
"Missus why don't you just mind your own business and fuck off before
you get hurt?"
"Oh I'm sorry I just can't do that, you see I'm a very good friend of
the woman that lives there, the woman that has just been badly beaten
and then sexually abused," The man stood up, faced Joy and puffed his
chest, Joy stood her ground even though the young lout was taller than
her.
"She was warned to stay quiet more than once, now she's made it much
worse for herself," the young man then made the monumental mistake of
trying to make a grab for Joy's arm.
Joy moved to the side and grabbed the man's wrist, twisted and
dislocated it, she followed this by kneeing him in the chest winding
him, Joy was not in the mood to be gentle with this man.
"What the Fuck," wheezed the man as he fell to his knees.
"Tell me who hurt my friend?"
"Fuck you," followed less than a second later by, "Ooff," as Joy
kicked him in his side.
"Who hurt my friend?" The man slowly got up off the ground and smiled
at Joy.
"Now You are going to get it bitch some of my mates have turned up,"
Joy turned around and was confronted by a small gang of teens, she
smiled as she recognised them and said to the gang.
"Hello Boy's, remember me?" one by one the young men's faces turned
grey as they recognised her, the lead teen spoke up and addressed the
young lout.
"Sorry Stu, you're on your own mate, She's a fucking Psycho her", the
teens turned on their respective heels and without even bidding
farewell to their friend headed quickly the other way.
"Well it looks like it's just you and me now doesn't it Stu?"
"L, look I didn't hurt the stupid old cunt I just... nghhhh." Joy
broke Stu's nose with the heel of her hand.
"Now let me ask again nicely, who hurt my friend?"
"I can't they'll kill me," Joy however was not paying particular
attention to Stu any more as screeching round the corner was a very
familiar Land Rover, Joy smiled.
"Oh you really should have told me Stu because the lady in that Land
Rover Is my friend's daughter in law.
"So, big deal?"
"She's the one that taught me how to fight."
Stu made a pitiful whimper then made a last-ditch break for freedom
but Joy tripped him and he fell to the ground, landing badly as he hit
the pavement, Joy then produced several cable ties and quickly bound
his hands at the wrists.
"Do you need any help?" asked Aliza as she stepped out of the Land
Rover.
"Can I put this one in the back of your Vehicle please?"
"Of course," Aliza then threw her keys to Joy.
"Grace is very shocked and has taken quite a beating but Bob and Dr
Simmons are on the way, go to her I'll deal with this one," Aliza left
Joy with her prisoner and headed quickly up the street to be with her
mother in law.
Two or three minutes later as Joy was finishing securing the young man
to one of the seat supports in the rear of Aliza's land rover she was
informed by Text from Susan that Bob had now arrived in one of 'The
Centre's' Ambulance's with Dr Simmons and Nurse Peggy, Joy locked the
doors to the Land Rover and headed towards Grace's house she had just
one question stuck in her head and she really needed an answer to it.
As Joy approached Grace's house Susan opened the front door and
quickly appraised her mum of the current situation in a hushed voice.
"Bob and Harry are with Mrs Percy and the young woman now Mum, Bob
says you should have a cup of tea so I've made one for you, It's in
the kitchen."
Joy followed her daughter into the kitchen and sat quietly at the
kitchen table for some time sipping at her tea and nibbling at Grace's
biscuits, she was not happy at all.
"What's up mum? You are really quiet."
"I'm worried Susan, I'm worried that this may be in some way my
fault." Susan hugged her mum.
It was several miserable minutes later that Joy's question was
answered, Dr Bob came into the kitchen and asked.
"Any tea Suzy?" he then sat opposite Joy "I'm prepared to put a tenner
on the fact that you somehow think that this incident is your fault
Joy," she just nodded.
"It's not, so stop beating yourself up over it."
"But why would anyone go after Grace?"
"Well after talking to both of the victims it appears that Mrs Percy
was trying to help the young lady next door and her husband, somehow
they have managed to get themselves both mixed up in something quite
unpleasant and were struggling to find a way out."
"What something Bob?"
"That I don't yet know, may we take Grace and Kimberly back to 'The
Centre' for treatment please?"
"Of course Bob, anything you need, has anyone contacted Terry yet?"
"I'm afraid not Joy as their current job is 'off the books' they've
gone dark and it may be a few days before Hillary will be able to get
a message to him," Joy sighed.
"I need to find out who was responsible for this Bob."
"I know you do Joy but until we find out a little bit more about what
we are dealing with we're a bit stuck, Aliza tells me that You've
apprehended a young man."
"Yes Bob he's restrained in the back of her vehicle."
"Good that's a start, we'll bring him with us." Susan passed a freshly
made cup of tea to Bob.
As Bob and a, much relieved, Joy were drinking their tea a few minutes
later, they started to hear a banging sound coming from outside in the
street, Susan went to the front door to investigate.
"It's Coming from Aliza's Vehicle mum. I think your guest is getting
frustrated," But before Joy could get to the front door Aliza
appeared.
"I'll go and keep him company Joy." She paused. "Would you like me to
take him back for questioning Bob?"
"Yes please Aliza. Oh and if possible could you possibly make him more
scared of what you'll do to him than what his associates will do if he
talks?"
"That Bob, would be a pleasure." Aliza took her keys and left the
house, the banging stopped less than a minute later.
It was nearly an hour later when the police finally arrived after they
had been contacted by Hillary.
"The Police are here just to make a statement Joy as we can't let
these criminals think they've gotten away with their crime, Grace and
Kimberly will be safe once we get them back to 'The Centre'.
As the two doctors and the nurse helped Grace and the young woman
called Kimberly out of Grace's house, Joy noticed a small white van
pulling up on the opposite side of the road behind her own car, a
plain clothed man got out of the van and retrieved a metal clad
instrument case and a camera from the rear of his vehicle, one of the
police officers standing guard at the front door turned to his
colleague and commented sarcastically
"Everything will be okay now Constable Drayton, CSI Byker has just
turned up."
Grace and the young lady called Kimberly were helped into the
Ambulance/Minibus by Alice and Trish assisted by Nurse Peggy, Trish
decided to go back to North Yorkshire in the minibus as Kimberly was
still very distressed and also so that she could spend a little time
with her old friend Peggy.
Alice, Joy and Susan followed the minibus all the way back until it
was safely within in the confines of 'The Centre.'
It was early evening and the daylight was just starting to fade when
Joy returned home to Stevenson Towers with her wife Alice and Susan
their daughter, as the front door opened a little girl appeared she
had a very broad smile and ran towards both Joy and Alice as fast as
her little legs would carry her, Terri Joy and Alice's youngest
daughter then launched herself at Joy who immediately caught Terri in
her arms and picked her up.
"Mummee" she said as she clung to Joy's side and kissed her.
Alice noted that Joy's mood was now lightening as their daughter
hugged her wife, somehow Terri always knew how to cheer her mum up,
Terri then asked: "Mumees can we go out before tea?"
"Where would you like to go Terri?" asked Joy.
"Can we go to the lake pleeze?"
"Have you been a good girl all day?" Terri looked a little shyly at
her mum and said with a sheepish smile.
"Um."
"Of course we can Terri, go and get your coat and wellies,"
Interrupted Alice, she figured that a walk with Terri would help take
Joy's mind off what had happened to Terry's mum today.
"Trish is coming round shortly, we have a couple of projects to finish
mum, so can I use your workshop please?"
"Of course you can Susan, Say bye bye to your sister."
"Bye bye Suzy" said the little girl in Joy's arms as Joy lowered her
to the ground to get her coat.
Terri wandered across the large hallway and around the back of the
main staircase, then a few seconds later she returned with a little
pink duffel coat and a small pair of Wellington boots, Alice moved her
hand over to her wife's and then held her hand as they both watched
with a smile their youngest daughters valiant attempt at pulling on
her wellies whilst sitting on the floor.
With a little assistance from her mum's Terri was now ready for her
walk down to the lakeside so she held out her hands and both mums
helped the little girl up and they headed out of the front door into
the growing murk of the oncoming sunset.
By the time the three returned from their walk, Joy's mood had
brightened significantly and as they entered their large home they
could smell that their evening meal was well on its way to completion.
"Something smells good tonight Joy."
"Mmm it does smell nice I wonder what Dot has created for us tonight?"
said Joy as she held Terri up so Alice could remove her little
wellies, once the wellies were removed Alice started to tickle Terri's
feet through her tights, this had the result that by the time they had
reached the dining room Terri had been reduced to a small wriggling
breathless bundle of giggles.
As they entered the Dining Room Joy noticed that Susan was already
seated with Trish and her wife Chris along with their other two
Daughters Dawn and Lucy. "I hope you don't mind Mums but I've invited
Trish and Chris to dine with us tonight.
Alice asked, "What about Aliza, have you invited her?"
"Yes mum I did but she, err, she wants to help Bob with something."
Alice immediately realised what Aliza would be doing this evening and
tried to change the subject before the twin's latched onto it.
"Is this Ninja stuff mum?" asked Lucy with a smile.
Both Joy and Alice sighed simultaneously.
Chapter 2 Terry.
Somewhere off the coast of Somalia many hours earlier a cargo ship
that looked suspiciously like 'The Alice' but which was currently
going under the name of 'The Angel' was taking evasive action against
several small craft that were heading towards it.
'The Alice' no longer had any insignia on board that denoted its
status as a floating hospital, it now looked like any other cargo ship
and as such would normally be an easy target for Somalian pirates.
Normal cargo ships however are not usually crewed by Royal Navy
Sailors nor do normal cargo ships usually have a team of Special Boat
Service specialists on board.
"Wait," said Terry Percy into his throat mic to his men that were
crouching in cover on the main deck, one of the small boats had now
come alongside 'The Angel' and was attempting to get a line on-board,
"Jonesey, start jamming communications now."
"Sir."
Terry smiled to himself as he heard himself say
"Prepare to repel boarders," followed a few seconds later with the
simple command.
"Fire."
Several armed Marines now appeared from their positions of cover on
the ship and started to fire at the pursuing small boats, three of the
occupants of the small boat alongside 'The Angel' were immediately hit
by small arms fire and the small semi-rigid inflatable turned to make
it's escape quickly followed by the other small boats.
"Incoming" shouted Corporal Jones as one of the boats attempted to
fire a rocket propelled grenade, but it just bounced harmlessly off
the thick hull of the Alice.
"Captain please set a pursuit course for those small craft," said
Terry.
A few seconds later Terry felt the ship list slightly as it started to
turn and could feel through the deck plates the engines increasing
speed.
'I hope those engines hold up to the strain' thought Terry to himself,
he needn't have worried as the chief engineer and his staff had been
overhauling and fine tuning the new engines ever since they had left
dock in Gibraltar.
'The Angel' had fulfilled the first part of its mission as a harmless
but profitable target for pirates and now it was heading at full speed
to find 'The Mother Ship' from which the small boats were being
launched.
Three hours later just appearing on the Horizon was an old and very
large container ship.
"Captain Percy to the Bridge" announced the ships Tannoy system as
Terry was just starting to tuck into a rather good Shepard's pie, he
took a couple of further mouthful's and headed up to the ship's Bridge
to see the Captain.
"Ah good Captain Percy, We are closing in on the base ship now."
Terry saluted the Captain.
"When they get within range I'm expecting them to attack with
everything that they've got Captain so when I tell you, if you could
just turn hard to starboard then we'll uncover our little surprises."
It was late afternoon when the bridge lookout of the 'The Angel' first
noticed the flotilla of small fast boats heading at speed towards them
from their base or 'Mother' ship, the Captain kept 'The Angel' heading
directly towards the pirates Mother ship.
After several more minutes the flotilla of small boats containing many
armed and angry looking men came within range of small arms fire so
Terry issued the command to his men to fire at will.
The Captain of 'The Angel' asked Terry.
"How close do you wish us to get Captain Percy?"
"A few more seconds Captain," the Bridge crew of 'The Angel' ducked as
a stray bullet hit the metal frame of one of the windows of the
bridge.
"A little further... Now Hard to starboard"
the Captain issued the command to his number one and 'The Angel'
started to turn, Terry then commanded his men
"Uncover our little surprise now."
"Sir."
On the deck the covers were quickly removed from two almost vintage
but still deadly M61 Vulcan Gatling guns, each of these impressive
weapons was theoretically capable of firing 6000 rounds of 20mm
ammunition at its target per minute and both weapons were about to be
fired just below the waterline of the pirates Mother ship.
The barrels of both weapons were raised hydraulically and locked onto
their target via the recently fitted hydraulically operated computer
driven mounts.
"Ears," warned Terry just before the first weapon started to fire
Terry's men quickly donned their noise cancelling ear defenders.
The first of the Vulcan's burst into life firing a mixture of armour
piercing and Tracer rounds, this was followed two or three seconds
later by the second weapon firing both high explosive and armour
piercing rounds, as 'The Angel' passed by the Pirate's ship Terry
looked on in satisfaction as each 20mm round pierced the hull of their
target and did untold damage to it's superstructure.
It took very few seconds before the two Vulcan's had used their
ammunition and would be at least two minutes before they would be
reloaded and ready to fire once more, Terry then issued the command.
"HMG's fire at will."
On the deck of 'The Angel' three teams of gunners started to fire
their L1Al 0.5" calibre heavy machine guns at the flotilla of small
boats that were still menacing the ship with small arms fire.
"Captain could you get us around the other side of their mother ship
please?" Terry barely managed to resist the urge to say 'Left hand
down a bit!' thinking that it would probably be most inappropriate.
The captain issued new orders to his second in command and 'The Angel'
turned once more.
After another successful strafing run using the two Vulcan's the
pirate's mother ship was dead in the water on fire and very slowly
sinking, the small boats that until then had been harassing 'The
Angel' were now returning to their mother ship to rescue the crew as
their ship was now listing a little.
"Okay lads cease fire, I think that they've taken the hint."
This concluded part one of Terry's mission.
.
After the Pirate's mother ship had been boarded and the process of
scuttling it had started Terry gained the information that he needed
off the Captain of the Mother ship.
It was well after dark before Terry's SBS marines boarded their rigid
raiders.
"Thank you for your assistance Captain we will rendezvous back here
03:00 Sunday morning, or sooner if we send you a signal."
"We will continue jamming local radio traffic until your return
Captain Percy."
"Thank you, Captain," With that Terry Donned his helmet and boarded
his craft.
Chapter 3 Denial.
It was 06:00 on Tuesday morning when a concerned Alice woke her wife
from her disturbed sleep.
"Joy, Joy" she said as she gently shook her wife
"Uh, what!"
"Oh, sorry Alice did I disturb you?"
Alice smiled at Joy. "You were having a bad dream Joy, I was
concerned."
Joy pulled herself up the bed and sat with her back against the
headboard, she sighed and after a few seconds she said, "It's Grace, I
just don't understand how anyone could do that to an old woman, the
beating was bad enough but then to rape her I, I."
Joy became lost for words but Alice knew exactly what to do and
cradled her wife's head into her shoulder and gently stroked her hair,
Alice knew that Grace's beating had affected Joy greatly but she also
knew that Joy had very little time to find the people responsible
before Terry's return.
"Why don't we both go for a Jog and a sparring session before
Breakfast Joy, then afterwards we can go to 'The Centre' and see how
Grace is doing?"
After a very energetic jog around the lakeside both Alice and Joy
entered the old barn where they usually practised their fighting
skills, as they entered they noticed that Aliza had beaten them this
morning and was attacking a punch bag with what could only be
described as barely controlled fury, Aliza was red in the face and was
dripping with sweat as she beat the stuffing out of the heavy leather
bag suspended from a large roof beam.
Joy approached Aliza and gave a little cough, Aliza stopped her
attack.
"I feel the same way as you Aliza, we need to find out who is
responsible," Joy noted that uncharacteristically for Aliza she had
tears in her eyes, Joy held her hand and gestured to Alice, Joy led
Aliza over to a long bench by the wall and sat down next to her, Alice
sat to the other side of Aliza.
"I'm not sure that I would be able to restrain my self Joy, I could so
easily have just snapped that young lads neck yesterday."
Joy placed her arm around Aliza's shoulder and gently held her.
"I felt the same way Aliza but we are better than them, we will bring
them all to justice," Alice Added.
"I really have no objection to you hurting those people."
Both Aliza and Joy smiled at Alice's comments.
Aliza got up and asked Joy, Shall we spar?"
After breakfast Joy Aliza and Alice went in Joy's old SAAB to 'The
Centre'. In the reception area they were met by Bob who looked like
he'd been waiting for the trio to arrive.
"How is Grace?" Joy asked immediately
"Grace is now in denial about what has happened to her Joy I'm afraid,
Harry is with her now but she's trying to act as though everything is
normal and that she Is okay, which obviously she isn't."
"Would it help if I spoke with her Bob?" Offered Alice.
"I was hoping you would offer Alice as until she opens up and accepts
my help I really can't really do a lot with her."
"Would you like to come with me Aliza?" asked Alice.
"I, err no not at the moment, I just wouldn't know what to say Alice"
Alice understood completely as she headed towards Grace's room.
"And what about you two?"
"We thought that we would chat with the young man that we apprehended
yesterday Bob."
"Well it won't take two of you, why don't you go and speak with the
young woman Kimberly Joy, Trish is sitting with her now."
It was then that Joy realised that in her haste to find out who was
responsible for Grace's beating, she'd almost entirely forgotten about
the other victim.
"Sorry Bob I wasn't thinking, I'll go now."
"Just listen to her Joy, she's in a very fragile state, room seven,"
Joy then headed towards room seven, Bob left with Aliza to go to the
bunker...
Chapter 4 Grace and Alice.
Alice stood outside Grace's room and knocked.
"Come in" said a male voice.
Alice opened the door Harry Simmons was sitting with Grace.
"Ah Alice," he turned to Grace and asked, "I'm just going to have a
quick word with Alice, if that is okay?"
"Of course it is Dr Simmons, as I keep telling you; I'm fine, don't
worry about me," Harry Simmons got up and gestured with his eyes and a
nod of his head that Alice should follow him outside Graces room.
As Harry closed the door behind him Leaving Grace in her room alone
Harry sighed, "Has Bob asked you to talk with Grace?"
"Actually I offered Harry."
"I hope you have better luck getting through to her than I have Grace
is now in complete denial of her rape."
Alice Grimaced, "I understand what she's going through Harry, I'll
talk with her."
"I hope that you can get through to her Alice because she should be
resting, she's actually now talking about going home."
"Don't worry Harry she's not going anywhere until it's safe for her to
do so"
Alice entered Grace's room a couple of minutes later. Grace was
sitting by a small table near the window and was slowly brushing her
long grey almost white hair.
"Good morning Grace, are you feeling better today?" Alice asked as she
pulled up a chair near to her. Grace was in her nightgown and also had
a dressing gown on, it was tightly wrapped around her body.
"I'm much better thank you Alice," answered Grace almost dreamily.
"May I?" asked Alice.
"Of course dear," said Grace as she passed Alice her brush.
Alice then started to gently brush Graces hair out.
"So when do you think I will be able to go home Dear?" asked Grace
with a weak forced smile, Alice smiled back but found it hard to look
cheerful when Grace's face was in such a mess with all of the bruising
and swelling.
"You have lovely soft hair Grace it reminds me of Susan's when she was
a little girl. I used to love brushing her hair for her. Of course,
now she's all grown up I no longer get the opportunity as often."
Grace just sat and listened as Alice talked.
"I used to love having my hair brushed when I was a young girl; my mum
would sometimes sit me on her bed and would use her own brush to take
out all of the tangles, she used to complain that I was such a tomboy
and at the time I was."
"Oh really dear?"
"Yes Grace I was the adventurous one in our family, my sister Stacy
was the mummy's girl whilst I was always my Daddy's little girl, we
were best friends he always encouraged me to be sociable and to make
friends with the local kids."
"Your childhood sounds like it was really wonderful Alice."
"It was Grace, it really was", As Alice gently pulled Graces hair back
Grace noticed the full extent of the bruising to her face and neck.
"Oh My, I must look terrible to you Alice?" Alice smiled at Grace via
the mirror.
"Not at all, I have some Concealer in my bag if you would like I'll
try and hide some of your bruises for you?"
"Maybe later, you were telling me about your childhood."
"I was wasn't I; how would you like me to do your hair Grace?"
"I don't mind."
"I think I'll try a loose plait, I'll bet it's a long time since your
hair was plaited?" Grace just smiled at Alice via the mirror.
"Can you remember the day we first met?" asked Alice.
"Oh yes, I was really annoyed at our Terry"
"Yes you were Grace. but can you remember what you told him about Joy
and I?" Grace thought for a second or two then said, "Oh yes I
mentioned that you both had sadness in your eyes but I know all about
that, it was because of your kidnapping, wasn't it?"
"Well partly yes but at least with me it was something else too."
"Oh?"
"Remember just before when I said that I had an adventurous
childhood?"
"Oh yes."
"Well I had an Uncle, he was called Mark, he was my dad's brother and
he used to come around to our house and stay with us a lot when we
were growing up. My sister Stacy didn't like Uncle Mark but I thought
he was fun; he used to take me onto the lake in our boat and we would
sometimes go into the woods together."
Grace was now listening intently to Alice's story as she slowly
plaited her hair.
"I didn't realise it at the time as I was having a lot of fun; but my
uncle was not a nice man, soon he started hugging me for no reason and
sometimes he would 'accidentally' touch me on the leg or pat my
bottom," Alice paused as she was starting to find it a little
difficult to tell her tale.
"After a while my Uncle started to touch me elsewhere too but he then
started to warn me not to tell my parents, he said that he would hurt
my mummy if I did."
Grace's lip started to tremble as Alice continued with her tale.
"I felt trapped Grace, I was a young girl my Uncle was abusing me and
I did nothing I just pretended that it wasn't happening and hoped that
it would just stop by itself; it didn't. Soon my Uncle started to
visit me at night, I just lay in my bed whilst he did the most vile
things to me, Grace."
With a quivering lip Grace said, "Oh Alice, I didn't realise..."
"I started to withdraw into myself and become quiet and
uncommunicative, I think that my mum just thought I was going through
a phase but my Daddy he sensed that something was wrong and caught my
Uncle in the act one night but by then the damage was already done, I
had already become mentally scarred and was descending swiftly into my
own living hell."
Grace turned and gently started to hold Alice who by now was almost in
tears.
"But why are you telling me this Alice why now?"
"I lost almost all of the best part of my childhood and most of my
teenage years to mental illness Grace because of that Bastard I only
really started to recover properly after meeting Joy; she taught me
how to feel emotions again and how to love; but now as I see you
trying to be brave over your rape it saddens me. I don't want you to
end up like me, I don't want you do end up emotionally crippled like I
was."
Grace looked at her young friend and saw both concern and worry, she
thought about what Alice had just told her and how difficult it must
have been for her to tell her tale, then Grace started to think about
the full horror of her own beating and rape and the tears started,
Alice moved closer to Grace and gently held her head as she broke down
and started to weep.
As Grace lay almost limply against Alice weeping uncontrollably into
her shoulder, Alice held her and gently rubbed her back.
After a few minutes, there was a quiet knock on Grace's door and Bob's
head appeared around it.
"May I come in Grace please?" he asked, Grace looked up from Alice's
shoulder and just nodded, Bob entered followed by Nurse Peggy.
"Would you like me to stay with you Grace?" asked Alice, Grace asked
"Can he really help me?" Alice just smiled and nodded.
"I'll be okay Alice, give Joy a big hug from me would you?" Alice got
up from her seat and as she left Bob mouthed 'thank you' to her as
they passed.
Once Alice had left Grace's room Peggy caught up with her and said,
"The Doctor would like to speak with you before you leave today just
to make sure that you are okay Mrs Stevenson."
Alice nodded.
"I understand Peggy I'll either be in Terry's Bunker or over in the
Caf? area doing paperwork."
Chapter 5 Lunch.
Alice was sitting in the caf? area of 'The Centre' when she was joined
by Joy nearly an hour and a half later, Alice had been remotely doing
both her and Joy's work for the day as she knew that for a while at
least neither of them would be going into work in person.
"I need a hug," said Joy simply as she sat by her wife, Alice noted
that Joy 's mascara had run a little and figured that her meeting with
the young woman called Kimberly had been traumatic, Alice and Joy held
each other closely for several long seconds before Alice released her
and then immediately re-embraced her for several more seconds.
"The second hug was from Grace, she asked me to give you a big hug,"
Joy smiled.
"Kimberly is at her wit's end Alice and she's distraught that Grace
has been harmed."
"Do you know why Grace and Kimberly were attacked yet Joy?"
"Yes and no, I believe that Kimberly and her husband have
inadvertently become involved in something horrendous but she's still
too upset to talk about it, every time I mentioned her husband she
broke down and we had to stop so I may have to talk with Grace about
him later."
"Please tell me that we're going to help Joy?"
Joy smiled at her beautiful wife and said, "Of course we are Alice,
not just for Grace but also for that poor girl too, in fact I was just
about to contact Hillary."
Alice left Joy to get their lunch from the caf? whilst Joy phoned her
friend Hillary, Joy was initially disappointed though as she only
managed to get through to Hillary's secretary.
"I'm sorry but Mr Simpson will be unavailable for the next few days, I
can take a message if you wish?"
"Could you tell him if he calls that Joy Stevenson called Please?"
There was a brief pause and then the secretary said, "I'm so sorry Mrs
Stevenson, Mr Simpson left half an hour ago. He's coming up to see you
and should be with you later on this afternoon to offer you his help
personally, I have his mobile number if you need it."
"No I already have it but thank you for your help Mrs Tanner."
Joy then used Hillary's mobile number and after a short conversation
(due to the poor signal as he was going into the underground) Joy
started looking through her phone book on her phone.
Alice who had just arrived with their lunch of fish fingers, chips and
peas asked. "What are you looking for Joy?" Without even looking up
from her phone Joy replied.
"Hillary suggested I try and get a little help as he can't yet
allocate me any apart from himself, so I'm hoping that I still have
someone's number, ah yes here it is."
"Tuck in Joy before your food goes cold."
Chapter 6 Dixie.
Andrew Dixon was not really enjoying his latest job as he sat on a
tall stool behind the CCTV pedestal to the side of the large glass
entrance doors of a large supermarket near to his home city of Bath,
he was dressed in his uniform which made him look like a weak parody
of an old American beat cop or as he called it 'His officer Dibble
costume'.
It had been nearly eight months since he'd retired as a Royal Marine
and just over nine months since he'd last seen any real action, Andrew
did not like civilian life, he did not like it one bit. He missed his
friends and comrades back at base. Andrew now lived in a small one
bedroomed flat just on the outskirts of Bath, he still kept himself
fit and was extremely fit for a man in his mid-fifties, he jogged
every single morning and attended a local gym three times a week.
Andrew heard the familiar beeping of the alarm by the main doors, he
got down from his stool and walked over to the embarrassed looking
middle-aged woman standing with her shopping trolley half in and half
out of the shop.
"Could I just see your till receipt please madam?" he asked politely,
Andrew quickly scanned down the list and noted that she had bought
only one high value item, he retrieved it from its bag.
"Don't worry madam they must have just forgotten to remove the tag
from your new coat when you were at the till, I'll be back in a
second," Andrew returned a few seconds later after removing the
offending security tag.
"Sorry about that Madam"
His morning had not improved much when his regional supervisor, Mr
Camsey turned up unannounced.
"Dixon would you accompany me into the security office now please?"
said the pompous weedy man dressed in a badly fitting and food stained
black suit.
"Certainly sir I'll just secure the podium," Andrew pulled down the
cover over the camera console and secured it then followed his
supervisor through to the security office.
Upon entering his supervisor commented on the sign that had been taped
to the door, it read 'ROBOCOP'S OFFICE'.
"Is that meant to be funny Dixon?" Andrew smirked a little.
"It's just the lads having a little fun sir, they've taken to calling
me Robocop since the incident with the TV's"
"Ah yes and that is one of the things that I wish to talk to you about
you are only meant to apprehend shoplifters on the premises, you
chased those TV thief's for nearly six miles before they finally gave
up."
"Yes Sir And?"
"They have made a complaint against you."
"Against me, why?"
"For mental anguish and stress caused when you marched them both back
down the high street back towards the store."
"You are kidding me?"
"No I am not I'm afraid that this will need to be dealt with under the
conduct code and will probably result in a black..."
A mobile phone started to ring in Andrew's jacket that was hanging
from the door to the office.
"Excuse me sir I'll just get this."
Mr Camsey frowned and seemed to be most irritated at the interruption.
Andrew looked at the number that was ringing him but didn't recognise
it.
"Hello?"
"Hello Is that Sergeant Dixon?" Andrew stood up straight.
"I'm afraid not it's just plain Andrew Dixon now miss."
"You'll always be Sergeant Dixon to me Sir. I don't know if you can
remember but you once said that if I ever needed help just to ring
you?" Andrew now felt a shiver run down his spine.
"Is that you Mrs Stevenson?"
"Yes it is Sergeant, is the offer still open?"
"Yes Ma'am it is and please just call me Dixie or Dix."
Dixie exchanged several details about his location with Joy and was
then told to wait until he was picked up by Hillary.
"Come on Sir I'll buy you lunch in the canteen," stated Andrew whose
mood had now improved considerably.
"But we haven't finished here yet Mr Dixon," With more than a little
menace in his voice Dixie replied.
"Yes we have."
Nearly an hour later as Dixie (who had now changed out of his uniform)
and his supervisor sat upstairs in the staff canteen, his supervisor
noticed something out of the window in the distance.
"I wonder what that is over there?" he commented, Dixie turned, looked
and coming towards the store as some speed was a large Military
helicopter.
"Looks like my ride is here," said Dixie
"But where are you going, what are you going to do?"
"Mr Camsey even if I told you, you just wouldn't believe me, Goodbye."
Mr Camsey watched almost speechless a minute or so later when he
observed his now ex-employee cross the road just over from the car
park leap over a fence and board the Military helicopter, the large
cargo door of the helicopter slid shut and the copter slowly rose into
the sky.
In the helicopter Dixie was passed a headset by a crew member, once he
was wearing it he heard a very familiar voice, it was his old
commanding officer Hillary Simpson.
"Hello old man; Still alive I see?"
Later that afternoon, back at Stevenson Towers, Joy was lying on her
front on a carpeted section of the floor of the library with her
youngest daughter Terri. There was a colouring-in book between them
and Joy was helping Terri to use her new crayons. Terri lay on her
tummy opposite her mother on the soft carpet with a purple crayon in
hand and with utmost concentration she tried to colour in a line
drawing of a panda.
"Oh that is definitely the best purple panda I think that I've ever
seen Terri, you are a very clever girl."
Terri smiled and moved over to her mummy and kissed her on the lips.
A few moments later the peace and quiet of the Stevenson household was
broken by the sound of a large helicopter flying overhead, Terri
looked nervously at her mum at unexpected noise.
"Don't worry Terri, It's just Uncle Hillary and my friend Dixie coming
to visit me, now hop up on my back and we'll go and say hello to
them."
Terri clambered onto her mummy's back and wrapped her arms tightly
around her neck, Joy placed a hand behind her and supported Terri on
her back until she'd gotten up off the library carpet. Joy then gave
her daughter a bouncy piggy back all the way out of the library and
over to the front door to watch the Helicopter land on the beautifully
manicured lawns at the front of the house.
As the helicopter touched down both Hillary and Dixie jumped from the
open cargo door and both took large kit bags and Bergens from the
crew; they then headed away from the helicopter towards the house as
the pilot wound up the engines in preparation to leave.
As Hillary and Dixie reached the gravel chippings of the parking area
in front of the house the helicopter left the ground turned roughly
Northwards and then quickly disappeared over the trees by the lake and
out towards the sea.
Joy noted as Hillary walked towards her and Terri that he no longer
walked with a limp, She smiled as she knew that this was testament to
Harry Simmons skills as a surgeon.
Terry had her hands over her ears still and was now scowling at
Hillary.
"Hello Joy, oh and aren't you a big girl now Theresa?"
Terri broke into a smile and reached out to Hillary, Hillary dropped
his kit bag and took Terri from Joy she then kissed him on the cheek.
"You come to see Auntie Trish?" she asked.
"Yes Terri, and Chris too, but I have also come to help your Mummy."
"Who is the man?" Terri asked whilst pointing at Dixie.
"He's a friend of mine Terri and of your Mummy's too"
"Ooh."
As Hillary was being questioned by Terri, Joy smiled at Dixie
"I'm really glad to see you Dixie, thank you for coming," she went to
shake his hand but at the last moment gave him a hug instead, he stood
momentarily a little embarrassed but after a second reciprocated.
"It's good to see you too Ma'am."
Joy was joined a few seconds later by both Alice and Susan
"This is my wife Alice and my Daughter Susan."
Dixie looked at Alice and his mind went immediately back to the one
and only time he had seen her before, she was semi naked and slung
over Joy's shoulder, she was in a very bad way then. He smiled and
tentatively offered his hand to Alice, Alice smiled broadly and shook
his hand.
"Don't worry Mr Dixon I won't break, would you like to bring your bags
through onto the house, just dump them in the hallway and we'll go
into the dining room for refreshments."
Susan reached out and said, "C'mon Terri I'll take you to see Andi; I
think your Mummys want to talk with Uncle Hillary and his friend," she
then turned to Her mum and said.
"Aliza has already set up in the old Quarry mum; I'll see you down
there shortly."
Chapter 7 First Steps.
Dot greeted Joy Alice and her unexpected guests as they entered the
dining room.
"I'm really sorry to spring this on you Dot but could we have a couple
of pots of tea please and an assortment of sandwiches?"
"Of course Joy. And will Mr Simpson and the other gentleman be staying
for their evening meal too?"
"No Dot not today, actually this evening it will probably only be
Alice, Terri, Andi and I believe that Chris will be staying also," Dot
could tell that something was about to happen as Joy was usually a lot
more jovial.
"I'll get started on your teas now Joy."
"Thank you, Dot."
After sitting down and a little small talk Hillary asked: "What are
you planning for this evening Joy and how can we help?"
"Dixie, has Hillary filled you in on all that we know about Grace's
beating and rape?"
"Yes Ma'am, disgraceful."
"Both Grace and the young lady next door, Kimberly, were warned after
their assault not to contact the Police, that is why, after first
discussing it with Hillary, he contacted them. Kimberly and Grace are
safe at 'The Centre' now and several of the staff will be issued with
firearms in the evenings as additional security to ensure that they
stay safe until the whole affair is sorted out."
"So do you think that there is a little more to it than a random
attack Ma'am?"
"Yes Dixie almost certainly but until Kimberly can be interviewed
properly by Bob, it will be hard know for certain. Kimberly has
confided some things with Trish however, her husband is mixed up in
something with his manager or supervisor at the firm of accountants
that they both work at and the attack was as a direct result of
Kimberly and to a lesser extent him trying to run away from it."
"What about physical evidence Ma'am?"
"Oh yes, err rape kits were used on both Grace and Kimberly, they were
sent by courier this morning to a friend of mine at Stevenson Biotec,
I'm hoping that once we have the results Hillary will be able to use
the Police's DNA database to identify their rapist.
"Consider it done Joy, I'll use the international database too."
"Thanks Hillary."
"What about Terry, Has he been informed yet?"
"No Dixie, I believe that their current trip is at a crucial stage so
they have effectively gone dark."
"Possibly just as well Ma'am, he's not going to take this news well,"
Joy nodded sadly.
Just after they had finished their afternoon snack Joy mentioned,
"Aliza is down at the old quarry at the moment I was wondering if you
would like to brush up on your weapon skills Dixie, pistols only I'm
afraid."
"Do you have a Browning HP Joy?"
"Yes, I had Aliza draw one from the armoury for you and a Sig for you
Hillary."
Hillary nodded then asked: "So what is the plan for tonight?"
"We are going to be returning Kimberly to her home with a friend just
after the Police presence ends.
"No," said Alice.
"Don't worry it will actually be Trish with Susan. Aliza and I will
also be in the house to protect them both."
"And us?"
"You and Dixie will cover the outside of the house and provide back up
if or when something happens."
"Are you sure that it is wise to use your daughter Ma'am?"
Hillary interrupted, "Don't worry about Susan Dix she's more than
capable of looking after herself, come on I'm itching to get a little
shooting practice in," with that Hillary and Dix got up and left Joy
and Alice together in the dining room.
"Something is bothering you Joy I can tell," mentioned Alice as she
slipped her hand onto Joy's thigh and gently massaged it through her
leggings.
"I wish I knew more about Kimberly and her Husband Alice; but she's
still in a hell of a state and..."
"And?" Joy swallowed a little before saying.
"Harry told me she's pregnant."
"Oh lord."
"No not from the rape Alice but she's only a couple of months
pregnant, Harry is worried that the trauma of the beating and the rape
may cause her to abort."
"Oh Joy, the poor thing is their nothing else we can do for her?"
"I don't know Alice she's going to need a lot of sympathy and love,
what she really needs is her husband," Alice could tell that Joy was
struggling with her emotions.
"Joy you are not 'The Angel' at the moment, so if you need a little
weep just have one. Joy reached over and pulled Alice towards her in
an embrace, she whispered; "Thank you Alice," into her ear as the
tears started.
Chapter 8 The Second Attack
As Alice and Joy went up to their rooms to spend the rest of the
afternoon together, Dixie and Hillary were just making it to the old
Quarry at the far side of the woods, just before the moors started.
Dixie smiled as he recognised Aliza, who was standing by a small array
of pistols laid out on a folding table.
"Hello Dix, I'm glad you agreed to join us," said Aliza.
"I just hope I can help, Aliza."
"Okay Gentlemen choose your weapon."
As expected Dixie went for the Browning HP and started to load his
clip from the box of ammunition by its side. As Dixie was about to go
and take his first practice shots he noticed that Joy's daughter had
appeared and was now with Hillary she had picked up a modified Glock,
'surely she was not going to be required to use a weapon' thought
Dixie to himself as he slipped on his ear defenders then took aim and
emptied his entire clip into the target to the rear of the quarry,
Dixie then watched on as Joy's daughter stood legs apart raised the
Glock with both hands and then fired rapidly into the target.
'Really good grouping' he thought to himself as her rounds all pierced
the target's chest area.
Aliza fired next followed by Hillary. It was nearly an hour later
before Dixie left the quarry and headed back towards Joy's house, He
was very pleasantly surprised as to how skilled Susan was with
firearms as, after her shooting practice, she had field-stripped,
cleaned and reassembled her own weapon before returning it to Aliza.
He also smiled to himself as he walked away from the quarry when he
noticed a gamekeeper with a very large dog taking down the red warning
flags from the vicinity of the Quarry.
It was still just about light when a taxi from a local company pulled
up outside of Grace's house and two young women got out, one of the
woman appeared to have several obvious bruises on her bare arms and on
her face. It was a little hard to see her features clearly however due
to her face being partially obscured by a hooded top, the other
younger woman paid the taxi driver and followed the first up the steps
towards the front door of the house next door.
Dix was observing this from behind the blackened windows of a battered
old transit van parked some way down the street.
A voice appeared in Dix's earpiece.
"We're in; all quiet here."
"Well it looks like now we wait Dix; would you like one of Mrs
Burton's sandwiches? They really are excellent."
As darkness fell Joy and Aliza, who had been waiting in the next
street quickly made their way through the side alley of one of the
houses into the back garden of the house opposite then quickly over
the fence into Kimberly's back garden, Aliza tapped three times on the
back door which opened almost immediately, Aliza and Joy then entered
into the darkened kitchen, Susan closed the door behind them and
locked it.
"Where's Trish?"
"Pacing backwards and forwards in the living room with all of the
lights on mum."
"Good' let us hope it attracts the wrong kind of attention."
Aliza and Joy settled into Kimberly's home out of view as Susan and
Trish made themselves as visible as possible.
It was just after 21:00 that Hillary first noticed some unusual
activity in the street.
"White BMW passing slowly by the house," Trish jumped a little at
hearing this, Joy shuffled along the floor to be nearer to her.
"Are you nervous Trish?"
"Yes Joy I am, the later it gets the more nervous I get."
"You are being very brave Trish Don't worry, Hillary and Dixie are
outside remember?"
Trish smiled a little and commented, "I can't wait to get all of this
makeup off I don't think the bruised look suits me."
"That's the spirit."
Hillary observed the same car drive past every half hour until the
lights finally went out in Kimberly's house at 23:45.
Finally at 01:13.
"Black panel van and BMW pulling into Street, stopping. Two men
getting out of BMW, six young men getting out of van."
"Roger."
"Looks like they are posting three lookouts, five of them are now
heading towards the house, At least one appears to be armed."
Joy and Aliza were both now hidden in the shadows of both the living
room and the kitchen, Joy had removed the fuses from the lighting
circuits downstairs so that anyone entering would be almost blind.
Aliza then heard a familiar quiet scratching sound at the front door
"They are attempting to pick the lock," she whispered.
Joy sat quietly and screwed the silencer onto the extended barrel of
her Glock as she heard in her earpiece.
"Lookout one disabled," from Hillary closely followed by "Lookout two
unconscious," From Dixie.
Click, the front door was now unlocked and opened slightly onto the
safety chain, a pair of bolt cutters made short work of the chain and
after a second the door had been opened enough to allow one man to
enter, he looked around for a couple of seconds and signalled all
clear to his comrades, an accented voice started to give whispered
orders.
"You and you stay here, we'll go upstairs", Three men then slowly
started to make their way up the narrow staircase, just as they
reached the top of the stairs the two men standing guard at the base
received blows to the neck rendering them unconscious, they both fell
into their respective attacker's arms and were dragged away then
quickly restrained.
"Lookout three detained; area secure," came over their earpieces just
as Joy and Aliza were making their way silently upstairs, the master
bedroom light was switched on illuminating the landing a little and
the sound of whimpering could be heard from within the bedroom, then
the unmistakable sound of a silenced weapon Thuk, Thuk, Thuk, Thuk.
The whimpering however continued.
"What is this?" said the unknown slightly accented voice.
"I believe that it is called a recording now put your weapon down,"
stated Joy as she entered the bedroom behind the three men.
The man with the gun slowly raised his hands and turned but at the
very last second dropped his weapon to shoot, Thuk, Thuk Aliza's round
hit the armed man in the shoulder and Joy's round just below the knee
causing him to drop his weapon and fall to the ground, the other two
men staggered back into the bedroom in shock.
"Don't just stand there, you idiots; Kill them," Shouted the injured
man angrily.
The first man lunged for Aliza and received a broken jaw, dislocated
