Tuesday is here and it is time for Donald and Regina's first
appointment to their wedding planner.
Donald pulled up in front of Regina's and walked up to the front door
and reminded himself that he needed to finish the front porch. He
shook his head because of recent events slowing down that process.
He knocked on the door and it was Stephanie and she was wearing a navy

He watched her walk down to her Camry she was carrying a manila folder
and she opened the door and got in and backed up and then pulled out
of the driveway.
Regina came out and she said, "Now, you are getting distracted by
Stephanie? You men are all alike when another pair of boobs and an ass

Donald laughed and said, "So, Stephanie is applying for that job."
"Yes, after Friday going through her first monthly cycle."
Donald shuddered and yes he knew he was being unreasonable because he
was married to Susan and she had her regular supply of pads and other

Regina asked, "Is this how you were when married to Susan?"
Donald nodded and said, "I know it is crazy and she would say what a
wimp men are."
" I agree and I was a wimp before that night at that motel."
He looked at the porch and said, "I am going to come back and finish
this porch, These recent events have kind of slowed me down."
Regina smiled and said, "It has been a little insane around here but I
know you will finish it."
He took Regina's hand and they walked to her car and Regina gave
Donald the car keys.
She kissed him and said, "The benefits of having a man as her fiance."
He smiled and said, "Well, I learned a long time ago that the wife
really runs the household."
She laughed and said, "Honey, then we will get along just fine."
He held the door open for her and she got in the car and he closed it.
After he got in and started it he asked, "How are things at work?"
"There is one girl who I might have to let go. I will keep catching
her texting on her cell phone you don't know how much I hate those
devices."
Donald nodded his head and said, "I had to fire a guy because he was
constantly on his cell phone."
She said, "Now, I there are those smartphones where people go on
social media and stuff what is this country coming to? Don't tell me
you have a smartphone."
Donald laughed and before backing out he reached into his pocket and
pulled out a flip phone.
She laughed and said, "Wow, you are slow when it comes to the 21st
century."
He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I can receive calls and make them
and forward my office number to this phone."
" How often do you forward your calls?"
"As little as possible if that call is important they will forward the
call to me."
Regina laughed and said, "So, if I call your office would I be one of
your important calls?"
Donald grinned and said, "You will get top priority."
They backed out and then headed to town and 10 minutes later pulled in
front of a small house that is an office.
Donald got out and went to the passenger side and let out Regina and
she put her arm in Donald's and they walked up to the door and he
opened the door for her.
They walked in and the receptionist said, "Marilynn will see you in
just a moment."
They sat down and there were the usual wedding and bride and groom
magazines.
A redhead lady came out and said, "Oh, you must be Donald Addison and
Regina Edwards."
They said, "Yes we are."
She said, "Why don't we come into my office."
After the 3 of them sat down in the office Marilynn said, "Now, Donald
I understand this is your second marriage and you are a widower."
Donald said, "Yes, I am."
"Regina this is your first marriage."
Regina said, "Yes and planning to make it my last marriage."
Regina looked at the pictures of a man and a daughter and son.
She asked, "Are those your husband and children?"
"Yes, been married for 25 years and my youngest daughter will be
graduating high school this year."
Regina was surprised and she said, "You don't look it you must have
married young."
Marilynn said, "Well, as you know makeup is our advantage."
Regina smiled and said, "Yes it is."
Marilynn said, "I will walk you through all of the planning. What kind
of wedding you might want and wedding invitations and would you want
your wedding reception at a restaurant or in a banquet hall and
catered. Now, as you know or may not know as we are planning then you
will have to have a wedding date."
Regina looked at Donald and said, "See, I told you we will have to set
up a wedding date."
He blushed and said, "Yes, you did dear."
Marilyn laughed and said, "There is plenty of time for that."
As they were finishing up getting to know each other Marilynn said,
"This is an interesting town."
Donald asked, "How so?"
Marilynn said, "Well, that motel came back to life about a week ago
and I understand we now have new single women in town."
Regina said, "Oh yes, and I have one of the women at my house."
Marilynn said, "Oh you do and what is that like?"
"Not bad, today she is taking her revised resume to the auto
dealership today."
Marilynn laughed and said, "More women for single men,"
Regina said, "Ya, when they are ready to date because I have a feeling
it will be a while before they are ready to date."
Marilynn said, "I can understand their worlds are turned upside down.
Next week we will meet and look at sample wedding invitations."
Regina said, "Great, I can't believe how fast that hour went by."
"It usually does when we are sitting down and getting to know each
other. Go to my receptionist and set up an appointment for next week."
They went up front and the receptionist asked, "So, same time next
week?"
Regina and Donald said, "Sure.."
She handed them their appointment cards after writing down their
appointments.
As they were walking out Regina said, "It seems so strange but maybe
it is me it seems that Marilynn was going on a fishing expedition to
figure me out."
Donald said, "Yes, you kind of bit down on that bait. When you told
her you had Stephanie over at your house.
Regina shook her head and said, "I am used to when somebody asks I
just tell them the truth. By the way, I heard you were holding Susan's
hand and what did you tell her when your deceased wife left?"
He smiled and said, "I told her that she was about to faint and I
grabbed her hands."
"That was smooth."
He laughed and said, "Uncharacteristic of me."
She asked, "How did you succeed in real estate ?"
He laughed and said, "I wonder that myself. Now, there is a man who I
want you to meet his name is Earl Miller. He is a retired supervisor
of the local wood mill here in town and his mother well about 1910
survived that curse when it was still a hotel."
"Really?"
He smiled and said, "Ya, she passed away at the age of 96 a couple of
years ago."
She said, "Why didn't you tell me?"
He said, "I just never thought about it remember for those of us born
here it isn't real strange. Anyway, I know his number and I can call
and see if we can see him this evening."
She said, "OK, is he embarrassed about it?"
He laughed and said, "No, remember he was born here."
She said, "OK."
He drove back to Regina's house and he kissed her and she said, "I may
have one of the ladies talk to him."
He said, "I don't know if that is a really good idea."
She asked, "Why? You said he isn't embarrassed about it."
He laughed and said, "You can say he has a real salty language and a
salty way of looking at things. His mom tried her best to get him a
little civilized you can say and she didn't have too much luck. He was
happily married and he did watch his language pretty well around her,
for his nature."
"Are you telling me he is one this town's character?"
He laughed and said, "You can say that."
Regina and Donald went back to work and when the day was done Donald
drove over to Regina's house and he kissed her.
Stephanie was with her and she said, "Stephanie is coming with us and
don't you worry I already told Stephanie that Earl is a town
character."
He looked at Stephanie and said, "Be prepared because well he is
different So, how does the prospect look?"
She smiled and said, "I will have my interview next week."
He said, "Great."
Donald said, "Oh, he said we can eat dinner with him."
Regina said, "Really? I am looking forward to that."
They drove up to the old house which looked like an old farmhouse.
They walked up to the porch and the house was beautifully maintained.
Donald knocked and you could hear a man's voice said, "Ok hold your
horses I am coming."
There was a large framed man whose hair and beard was gray and he saw
Donald and the 2 ladies.
He smiled and said, "Well well well Don I thought you were bringing 1
good looking lady not 2."
Regina said,' Why thank you this other lady was you can say part of
the recent curse."
Earl said, "I understand Adele wanted to make things interesting for a
local gent by bringing back his deceased wife."
Donald grinned sheepishly at that remark.
Earl looked stunned and said, "That was your wife Susan?"
Donald said, "Ya,"
"Adele she is one vengeful bitch. Sorry for my language why don't you
come in."
After sitting down Regina said, "I understand that your mom was a lady
who survived that curse?"
Earl said, "Yes, she was the history with her as she was a blacksmith
who came here and well she came late and she checked into that hotel
and it was 1903 and she checked in and well this town didn't get a
blacksmith.'
Earl started laughing and then calmed down, "Another crazy thing
happened Albert Simon had a dairy farm and when he went to milk his
cows the next morning all of their milk was soured."
Donald said, "Really?"
Earl nodded his head and said, "Yes."
Regina asked, "What was it like to be raised by I don't know an
androgynous woman?"
Earl rubbed his beard and said, "I don't know is that what you women
are called. I was raised in a loving home. Now, mom didn't believe in
sparing the rod if you know what I mean and no she wasn't abusive. But
she wouldn't hesitate to use a switch or a paddle on us boys when we
stepped out of line. There were 4 boys and 1 girl and my sister is the
youngest she is about 45. She never scarred me no I did that myself
being foolish and also being in my share of fights."
She asked, "So I heard you are a widower."
A tear welled up in his eye and he said, "I am, breast cancer took my
wife about 4 years ago. We were happily married for 35 years and 2
adult children."
She said, "I am sorry."
He said, "Oh no, I am glad you asked, Now, as for that motel it is I
guess you can say like a volcano that stays dormant. Like a volcano
you never know when it will wake up but when it does interesting
things happen other than just a new woman or women. She is one twisted
and angry witch. Are you one of those special ladies? May I ask you
Regina are you engaged to get married?"
Regina said, "I am one of those ladies and Don and I are engaged."
He looked at Donald and said, "You have definitely gotten lucky with
her."
Donald said, "You are right."
He asked, "Stephanie are you one of the newest additions to this
town."
She blushed and said, "Yes."
He smiled and said, "Welcome and my advice to you when you are ready
to date be picky. My mom if I am not wrong she and dad started
courting each other about 4 years after she came through that curse."
He said, "I better check on my meal and don't worry every time I cook
dinner I cook enough for an army."
He brought out chicken mashed potatoes turnip greens and cornbread.
Regina said, "This looks delicious."
He smiled and said, "I like it."
As they sat down Regina said, "Tell me about this house it is so
nice."
Earl said, "I grew up in this house and I inherited it. I was going to
sell it and divide the money but the only person interested was a
developer and he was going to tear down this house and make a mini-
mall or some nonsense like that. I decided to hell with him and I
decided to live in it. Now, don't be hesitant about being a mom. There
was another mom who was I guess you can say became androgynous from
that hotel. I know she told mom years later that she was glad she
married and became a mom. One thing mom never figured with me was that
I was going to shatter and stomp all over the mold."
They all laughed at that comment and Earl said, "In spite of all that
I was able to marry and give mom some pretty good grandkids."
Stephanie asked, "So you breaking the mold that isn't because of your
mom."
"Oh no, my brothers and my younger sister well you can say they were
"normal" kids."
They all laughed and Earl said, "I wouldn't trade my mom for one of
those who never had that experience period. My mom was unique and up
until dad died you could see how much they loved each other."
They finished eating and cleaned up the dining room and kitchen and
they stepped out back.
He pointed and said, "When my mom and dad moved out here in I believe
1910 dad had to clear out the trees but what field he didn't need he
left the woods. I know that damn developer would cut down the rest of
those woods. Another thing about my mom and dad they were never afraid
to kiss and hug and other affectionate things in front of us kids but
of course within reason. As my dad was dying my mom would never leave
his bedside."
Stephanie asked, "How did he die?"
Earl said,' They say heart disease but I think just tired he was 97
and she was I believe 86."
They moved to the front porch to watch the waning sun and he said,
"You know this is how people should live. People get themselves
wrapped up in their devices like cell phones computers and what not."
Regina said, "I agree with you whole-heartedly and this such a
beautiful home."
Earl said, "Thank you and it is you know you should see the vegetables
that come out of my garden."
Stephanie asked." Was your wife you know?"
Earl said, "No, remember that motel doesn't wake up every year, in
fact, it wakes up when it makes up its mind to do so. She was born a
woman I guess you can say but she was tough because she stuck with me.
I can't believe how well behaved I have been and I know Don must have
said something about me."
Regina laughed and said, "Yes that you were a little salty."
Earl laughed and said, "Wow, you were pretty mild in your description
of me. Ya, my siblings turned out pretty "normal","
Regina said, "It is getting pretty late and Don and I have to work
tomorrow."
Earl shook their hands and then he hugged Regina and Stephanie and
said, "Don nice seeing you and Stephanie and Regina nice meeting you
and you are welcome over to my house anytime."
Back at the car, he held open the doors for Stephanie and Regina and
after that, he got in on the other side.
Regina said, "That was so nice meeting him and he is interesting."
Stephanie said, "I never thought a woman like me could have children."
Don said, "Ya and he is interesting."
Stephanie said, "That motel doesn't wake up every year, To hear the
other effects that witch does."
Don said, "He is right you can never predict it."
Stephanie said, "Maybe he needs one of us."
Don said, "I don't think he is ready, He will have to get passed
mourning her and he hasn't yet."
Regina said, "Yes, you are right but to hear the reason why he kept
the house and to hear about his childhood. It does give me hope
especially when we have children of our own. I think he has done more
to resolve my fears of whether or not I was taking the right step, Not
because of you honey because you are such a wonderful man but
wondering about me."
" I think I can understand your reasoning a little bit honey."
She smiled and said, "I am so glad babe."
They got to Regina's house and on the porch, he handed Regina her keys
and kissed her.
They kissed for about 5 minutes and they looked at each other.
" I do love you."
Don smiled and said, "Honey, I love you more then you can ever know."
Stephanie said, "How many more men like him in this town?"
Don said, "I didn't know there was another androgynous mom here."
They all said their goodbyes and Don walked to his Tahoe.
After Regina went inside she was wondering about that androgynous mom.
She shook her head and thought maybe there isn't another one but she
would like to find out.
She went to her bedroom thinking how nice but how lonely of a man Earl
was.
She brushed out her hair and she smiled at the thought of Don and her
marriage and having children of their own. She can't believe how much
her life has changed because of that fateful night she wouldn't have
dreamed of marrying a man when she was a man but now she can't picture
living her life without Don.
After brushing out her hair she got dressed for bed and then she
pulled back the covers and then she climbed into bed. She thought
about her day for a few minutes then she slowly fell asleep.
