Magic ring short story
Melissa was on her lunch break, the usual sandwich and coffee in the
park. She was looking out at the play ground, when three teen boys sat
at a bench nearby. One was tall, the other two a head shorter. Each with
a smoke in their mouth.
The smoke drifted past Melissa, and by its smell they were smoking
drugs. When she turned her head, they looked stoned she was disgusted
not just by the smell, but to do it near young children on the play
ground.
Melissa rubbed the big gold ring, with multi coloured gems, on her left
hand, an image in her mind, of how she was going to punish those teens
for their behaviour.
She remembered how when she was 3 or 4, her grandfather would sit her on
his lap, and read stories to her. The teens were sitting in just the
right spot to help brighten up the park, and help people remember the
good times with their grandparents. Melissa finished lunch, got up and
deposited the rubbish in the trash.
Then walked over to the teens.
The boys glanced up, to see Melissa staring down at them, in contempt.
The tall one of the three was about to say something.
But his mouth does not open, and his body is not responding. In a panic,
all he can move is his eyes. His two companions cannot move also.
All three are starting to freak out. Despite the fact they had been
smoking drugs, the look of pure satisfaction on Melissa's face was not
helping. Then they saw the ring on Melissa's left hand is glowing.
Melissa informed the three, "You are disgusting, not only do you waste
your lives with drugs, but you inflict it on others. You're exposing
innocent children, to your bad behaviour. For your deplorable behaviour,
I will give you a new position in life, and help you give back to the
community at the same time." The three teens and the park bench started
to glow, the same colour as one of the gems her ring.
The bench starts to shift shape, colour, and texture, and the three
begin to shift as well. The one in the middle was getting taller, the
ones each side of him are getting smaller, they stand up and sit down on
the middle one's knees.
The bench shifts to a gray stone square, with a flat back panel erected
behind them, the teen in the middle now looks like an adult, starting to
age, looking like an old man. The two on his knees are shrinking down to
child size, their hair is also getting longer.
The look on Melissa's face started to soften while a big smile spread
across her face, for with the transformation and the memories of her
childhood, she was seeing the perfect punishment for the teens.
The transformation was finishing. The bench now resembles an arm chair,
which the middle teen is sitting in, his changes are complete. He looks
like an old man, his clothes transformed to match his new age.
The two teens on his knees now look like two little girls; one is half a
head shorter than the other. One with pigtails tied with ribbons, the
other a ponytail with a big bow. Both have their clothes changed to
matching baby blue dresses.
Now that all the physical changes are complete, on the three the final
change starts, from the old man's feet and up his legs. Turning him to
stone, it continues up, into the girls on his knee, up their bodies,
their clothes become stone and fuse with the arm chair.
All now solid stone.
A final touch-a small stone column sprang up in front of the new statue,
a brass plaque attached that read:
Story time with grandpa.
Melissa was looking over her finished work, she believed it was her best
yet, a very nice addition to the park.
As she took one last look at the statue she said, "Now you three will be
forever stoned."
