I listened to the report and read a piece about it in the newspaper with

Whilst there wasn't anything I could do directly, I'd keep an eye open, as
she had gone missing less than 50 miles away - and I was heading off into
vacation into the area where she was last seen.
I had planned to go and stay in a lakeside lodge for a few days, and spend
some time hiking, hunting and swimming: activities that were part of my
life in the Special Forces and which never left me.
I was driving along a quiet hillside road, about 30 minutes from the lodge
when a figure of a girl came stumbling out of the woods. I hit the brakes,
stopped and jumped out.
The girl - or woman - was barely dressed. She wore a white gown and
nothing else. Her mouth was gagged with some tape and her hands were bound
behind. Obviously she was escaping from someone - but who?
Her eyes were wide and terrified. She wanted me to untie her there and
then but I could hear some shouts and the barking of dogs from the woods.
It seemed her captors were after her.
Instead, I picked her up and loaded her into the back of my car and told
her to stay still and quiet. Quickly, I started off and drove a bit before
there were some figures in the road. Police? No, they seemed some form of
private security company.
"Hey buddy!" one of them called as I stopped. "Where you heading?"
"Just into the wilds for a holiday."
"You seen a girl running along the road?"
"I'm afraid not. If you are hunting for someone, then they could be
anywhere in the forests here. The trees are quite close to the road in
parts, and the road is a bit twisty. They could be anywhere."
"OK, thanks."
I drove on thinking what all this meant.
The men had a small company name on their shirts - Pineapple Security - it
was a company I had never heard of before. At least not in anything
mainstream security-wise. Pineapple Enterprises was a new tech company
that brought out some new device every year or so, and had some secret
lab located in the wilds.
I thought about the girl in back of the car. It seemed obvious that she
was escaping from them. But why? What did Pineapple Enterprises want with
the woman in my car? She wasn't dressed for office work; it seemed as
though it was a hospital gown. Was she a patient? If so, why was she bound
and gagged and why was she running away?
I reached the lodge complex and collected the key to my lodge; careful to
lock the car, least someone try to open it to peep inside to find the
girl.
I found the lodge and backed the car up, taking note of the surroundings
and escape routes. I checked inside before returning to the car and
carrying the woman inside, then I brought my own gear inside and locked
the door.
The woman was still where I had left her on the floor, looking at me. It

"That's alright, I'll behave myself," I replied.
That night, after giving her a dinner, and allowing her use of the bath,
we slept together. As part of the training, I learnt to sleep light yet
get restful sleep, so, at dawn, after breakfast, we were up and out. I
gave Denise some of my clothes to wear for the rest of the day.
It took me some time to get to the Navy SEAL base. By this time, Denise
was sitting besides me, which was more comfortable for her.
At the gate, the guard recognised me, but, obviously not, Denise. I told
him Denise was coming with me to see the Base Commander. After some
hesitation and phone calls, we were allowed through.
"Christ, Jim!" the Base Commander burst out when her saw me. "You're meant
to be on leave!"
"I know. We've got a problem, and Denise here is part of it."
The Commander listened as I and Denise explained the situation. Finally,
some photos were produced and Denise marked the probably locations of the
facility.
"Can she stay in the medical centre for a bit?" I asked. "Afterall, she
has been through a lot."
"Yes; I think that can be arranged."
With that, I got back to my routine in the base and got the boys together.
I got a bit of ribbing about having brought a floozy back with me, but
they were deadly serious when I told them the tale.
24 hours later, we launched our mission.
It was true what Denise had said about the guards: most were pretty dumb

were under attack, some of the staff in the facility tried to euthanize

As for Denise: she was waiting for me when I returned to the base. It

grown fond of her and she of me.
She hugged and kissed me like a proper Naval wife or girlfriend is
supposed to do on the return of a hero. However, it was six weeks until
she could give me a proper welcome home and to say thank you in the only
true way possible.
