Chapter One - The Haven

Katherine Lee was focused on the strenuous task of working on her tan in the warm tropical sun of the Mavudis Island. Around her, other holidayers strolled amongst the palm trees or splashed in the crystal clear waters of the lagoon that the Haven Resort nestled against. She took a sip from a freshly-opened coconut, sighed happily and wriggled against the beach chair, all four foot, nine inches of her. Asians tend to be short, but she was short even for a Chinese girl.
Despite her tiny stature, or perhaps because of it, she was quite the tomboy. The muscles in her arms and legs were lean and defined, the results of hours in the gym where she worked as a personal trainer. Her dark hair was trimmed to a pixie cut, highlighting her exotic almond shaped, brown eyes. Her washboard stomach was firm, virtually no excess fat on her petite frame. Maybe she was overcompensating but if so, it worked to her advantage. In fact it was thanks to the her dedication to the gym that she worked at, Fitness Plus, that she was chosen as for the Best Personal Trainer of the Year award and won an all-expenses paid trip to this luxurious resort.

Kat’s mood soured. She squinted up find her nemesis Emily Winder silhouetted against the sun, hands on hips and a smug look on her face. Emily was a regional manager at the gym, a haughty, arrogant businesswoman who used her wiles to get ahead and looked down everyone else. Calling her a ?simpering bubble-head who slept her way to the top? to her face at a drunken office party had made their already sour relationship even worse. And so Emily took every opportunity to make her life difficult, pulling strings to schedule Kat with the most troublesome clients, rostering her at sorts of inconvenient hours and above all constantly needling Kat about her height.
It was quite unfortunate that Emily was also booked on the same resort package as Kat, which meant she had been forced to endure Emily ill-concealed jabs throughout the holiday. She bid her time, vowing that one day the tables would be turned.
?I’m not on the clock Emily, so why don’t you leave me alone and go make some else miserable for a change??
?Why would I do that when it’s so much more fun to annoy you, little Kat?? A slight emphasis on the word ‘little’.
Kat shook her head in disgust ?I’d punch you in the face if wouldn’t get me in trouble.?
?If you could reach my face!? Emily laughed haughtily.
Emily often reminded Katherine of a Bond villainess, albeit a rather stupid one. And indeed Emily looked the part. She had that graceful elegance that came with being naturally tall, statuesque and knowing it. Katherine was not small in the breast department but what Emily had put hers to shame. She was virtually spilling out of her tiny bikini. Add long legs that went on forever and a waterfall of blonde tresses that framed her exquisite face and she was a package that Bond would sacrifice queen and country for.
?Well, I’m off for a dip in the surf. I’d ask you to join me but I’m afraid you might drown. Keep your head up shorty!? With a final laugh, Emily strolled down to the water’s edge, her alluring figure drawing the eyes of fellow beach goers.
The tranquility dispelled, Kat was in no mood linger, muttering under her breath as she gathered her belongings and coconut. However in the time it took to walk up the beach path back to the resort, her mind was already calm again as she pondered whether to book in another massage or a work out in the gym, passing under the elaborately decorated sign which read:
