The following morning, the ladies arrived at the front of the hotel,
where the female manager was waiting for them. Donning the uniforms of
the King's Buccaneers, the ladies piled into the jeep, which Constance
drove away from the hotel toward the border area.
"To get to the border," Anna said as she looked at the map Hynkel had
supplied, "we have to cross the Romany Marsh area, and that will not be
an easy task, for according to the map, it is very deep and most of it is
populated by humanoid animal mutants. To get to the Romany Marsh, we
have to make it though the new No Man's Land through dozens of our own
Allied troops!"
"Then," said Constance, "that is what we will just have to do!"
And so the ladies went off through the No Man's land. One of the Allied
soldiers nearby hurled a grenade at their jeep, and hit Constance but,
enhanced as she was by the cola, she didn't feel a thing, although her
uniform jacket was destroyed immediately. Grabbing one of the grenades
in the jeep, she hurled it back at the Allied soldiers, who continued to
fire a hail of bullets at the ladies. Eventually, the ladies managed to
evade the soldiers and zoomed off into the wilderness. There, they were
attacked by humanoid wolves who leaped on them as a pack; the ladies were
able to fight them off. However, the wolves continued to chase them
through the forest area, and one of them leaped on the back of the jeep.
"You will be my lunch now for sure, ladies!" she shouted eagerly.
"Not a cat in hell's chance!" Constance replied as she grabbed and hurled
the wolf away from the jeep.
Anna was forced to drive the jeep into a lake and use its flotation
ability to cross the lake into order to get away from the mutant wolves.
Unfortunately, as the ladies crossed the lake, they were set upon by some
mutant otters, who grabbed the jeep and tried to sink it to the bottom of
the lake. Tillie opened the food locker in the jeep and hurled some of
the rations to the otters, who promptly dove down after them.
"Good thinking, Tillie!" Anna shouted. "They'll be too busy eating to
bother us anymore!"
The ladies then completed the crossing of the lake and hurried to the
Romany Marsh area. When then finally arrived at the area where the marsh
was located on the map, they discovered that there was a manor house on
the site where the marsh used to be!
"That's not on the map!" said Tillie, and Anna examined the map more
closely and said:
"There's a handwritten arrow in the lower right hand corner along with
the words 'Now Turn Over This Map.' Therefore, I am going to have to
turn over the map!"
When she did so, the ladies found a note from Hynkel written on the other
side:
"By now, you should have reached Romany Manor, where you are to spend the
night. The marsh is still on the map, as I have forbidden any new maps
to be made for the duration of this war.
= HYNKEL."
The ladies parked the jeep in front of the manor house and got out, then
went up to the front door. Anna knocked on it, but received no answer
from the inside, so she kicked the door open and the ladies went in,
their weapons fully drawn and ready for action. The manor house was
empty, however, and soon all of the ladies sheathed their guns and took a
look around the manor house.
"There's nobody here!" Constance said, and Lyle nodded and said:
"Whoever once lived here either died or moved out ages ago!"
"There's not a sound of anything here!" Anna added. "We're all alone
now!"
All at once a group of mutant birds perched on the window and sang:
"Welcome, oh welcome to the Romany Swamp
For what promises to be an affectionate romp,
For we will provide all the fanfare and pomp
That visitors expect from the Romany Swamp!"
"We've been travelling for hours!" Tillie commented. "What a night this
will be!"

The ladies built a campfire in the huge living room of Romany Manor as
the mutant birds sang:
"You're not safe in the Manor, so always beware
Of those nefarious double-crossers,
Madame Fox and Madame Bear,
Who are planning to have you for their supper fair,
Watch out for Madame Fox and for Madame Bear!"
"We'll take your advice, don't worry!" said Constance as she prepared the
sausages for the fire, and Anna got out the case of Lugha Cola that had
been stored in the jeep itself. As she handed out the bottles of the
Lugha Cola, there came a light from the front door, and a figure in a
Thermian uniform entered the room through the front entrance and stumbled
toward the ladies,
"Who the hell are YOU?" Tillie asked him, and the person replied:
"I am a Thermian soldier, Private Janowsky, whose unit those Allied
troops annihilated. I just barely got out of there in time to avoid
being slaughtered myself!"
The "soldier" then reached for one of the bottles of the Lugha Cola, but
Anna held It away from "him."
"No Thermian soldier would ever desert his post!" she cried. "They're
renowned for their bravery!"
Tillie then tackled the "soldier" around the waist and removed "his"
helmet. The face thus revealed was that of a mutant fox, with some
humanoid facial features as well. And a female mutant at that.
"You'll never make a good soldier, you bitch!" Lyle cried angrily, but
then the mutant fox shouted:
"BEAR! BEAR! Come here, please, I need you!"
All at once, what the ladies had thought was a heap of old clothing or
sheets rose from the floor, revealing itself as a giant female mutant
bear who shouted angrily:
"TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF MADAME FOX!"
The mutant bear leaped on top of Anna, and it took all four of the ladies
to keep her from chomping down on Anna's throat. Madame Fox rose shakily
to her feet and said:
"Thank you for starting this campfire, ladies. Unfortunately, you will
now serve as our dinner!"
The ladies were tied up and bound to a pole near the fire, at which point
Madame Fox said:
"I hope these ladies taste better than the soldiers we had last night!"
"So do I, Madame Fox!" said Madame Bear, and she then grabbed a bottle of
the Lugha Cola and forced it down Tillie's throat, then forced her to
swallow, saying:
"This will add spice to the taste, I think!"
All of a sudden, Tillie felt a surge of power go through her and easily
snapped the ropes she'd been tied with. Leaping on tip of Madame Bear,
she shoved her down onto the floor and fought to keep her pinned to the
ground. The other ladies broke free as well, and Anna easily subdued
Madame Fox on her own.
"She's so tough, I can barely keep her pinned down!" Tillie cried, and
Constance and Lyle grabbed hold of Madame Bear long enough to see to it
that she was tied up with metal tubing from the jeep.
Now that Madame Fox and Madame Bear had been subdued, the ladies had
their sausages, cooked over the campfire, for dinner. Then, after
dowsing the fire with water, Anna used her cell phone to contact the
nearest Allied base in Thermia, relaying the ladies' current position
and circumstances.
"Now we bed down for the night!" Constance said happily.

The next morning, when the ladies woke up, they were stunned to see a
ring of the supersoldiers known as the Evolved, led by Harold Armbruster
himself, surrounding Romany Manor. Harold himself entered the old manor
house and was the first to greet the ladies.
"All this just to take this message to the border!" Constance groaned,
and Harold said:
"Don't you worry, m'lady - the message will reach the border = after
we've examined it, that is!"
He led the ladies out of Romany Manor even as the other Evolved took
Madames Bear and Fox prisoner, and the ladies got back in the jeep and
headed out to the border with the Evolved following their every move from
then on. The Evolved led them to a small cabin on the border which was
the command post for the Allied troops on the Thermian border. Anna
wasted no time, she handed the message over to the Major in charge of the
Allied camp - none other than the grand old Duke of York!
"ANNA! MY DARLING!" he cried as he embraced his wife tenderly.
"The circus ladies were actually on the S.S. Melampus," his Lordship told
the ladies when he heard their story, "the shup that went down a few days
ago with all hands. Because the company kept quiet about the loss,
Hynkel and her cronies thought YOU were the circus ladies!"
"My name is Hannah Gatesby, m'lond, and -" Tillie said nervously as she
curtsied before him.
"Yes, I know!" his Lordship replied. "The real Tillie is now a soldier
serving under my command, and she spotted your picture in the paper
following your performance the other day."
He led Tillie to a cell in the basement of the cabin, which contained a
prisoner - a prisoner she knew.
"PAPA!" she shouted, and his Lordship said:
"No, Hannah, this man is not your father, though he and his wife have
raised you from infancy. This man is Rudolph Gatesby, your father's old
romantic rival Your father was named Charles Harroway, and your mum's
maiden name was Mathilda Parker, both residents of my home parish; your
father was lost at sea, and Gatesby has admitted that your mother gave
you to him and his wife as she lay dying after your birth years ago. As
of now you are free of him and his wife, as they'll be serving time for
the fraud they have committed by passing you off as their own daughter."
The other ladies followed Tillie into the room as she asked his Lordship:
"Then, what's my real name, m'lord!"
"You are really Matilda Harroway, as was noted on your birth
certificate."
"We have committed no fraud!" Gatesby roared. "Hannah has been in our
custody legally for years!"
"Oh, yes, you did," his Lordship retorted, "when you passed this girl off
as your biological child!"
"I'm... free?" Tillie asked, and at his Lordship's nod, she cried:
"I'M FREE! FREE TO FIND MY MISSING HUSBAND!"
"And we'll only be too happy to join you in that search, Tillie!" the
other ladies chorused.
"We would like to make you ladies an official regiment," his Lordship
added, "so what say you?"
All four ladies groaned, but they sucked in their guts as Anna said:
"We'll do it for Tillie - after all, she's a war hero now!"
"I'm... a hero?" Tille asked, and his Lordship nodded.
"I'M A HERO!" Tille cried happily as she threw her arms about his
Lordship's neck and kissed him on the forehead.
