June, 1984, Helsingborg, Sweden

I spent a couple of days with the Anderbergs, most of which was spent with Rolf at his restaurant and disco. The chef, Axel, remembered me and let me spend the afternoons in the kitchen with him. I really enjoyed working with him, even though for the most part I was just cutting up ingredients, stirring pots, and doing other simple tasks. Both evenings were spent in the disco, dancing and drinking. I made sure to change dance partners regularly, because despite the young and clearly willing flesh, I simply didn’t feel like partaking.

Even Magda’s obvious flirting on the plane hadn’t enticed me, despite her being almost perfectly my type - blonde, blue-eyed, with small, firm breasts and a winning smile. I had briefly thought about calling her and her brother, but in the end, I just didn’t want to get involved with anyone else, not even just for fun. Something inside me had fundamentally changed, and I was still trying to figure it out.

On Friday I had lunch at the Sandbergs’ with Lisbet and her parents. Pia had left for Amsterdam a few days before I arrived. Had I not changed my trip because of Joyce’s graduation, I’d have been able to see her. It would have been just as a friend, though, because she was committed to Johan. I was unhappy at how things had worked out, but, if push came to shove, Joyce had to take precedence. I hoped someday to see Pia again, but it wouldn’t be on this trip.

After lunch, Lisbet drove me back to Ängelholm so that I wouldn’t have to take the bus or train. We had a nice chat, and despite her past flirtation, she was on her best behavior. Rolf was waiting for me so that we could make the return trip to Helsingborg to catch the train. I’d considered taking my bags with me, but as I’d taken the bus, that wasn’t really practical.

At the station, I thanked Rolf once again for his hospitality and told him that I hoped to see him in Chicago someday, but if not, I would certainly do my best to see him the next time I came back to Sweden. I had no idea when that would be for sure, because once I graduated and started my own company, taking a month off was quite impractical. I boarded the train and found a window seat and waited for the train to leave the station.

I still remembered the scenery that passed by as the train chugged north. I’d taken this route many, many times over the course of the previous five years, and very little had changed. As we moved north through Skåne and into Halland, I wondered how I would feel on the next train trip, which would take me east from Västra Götaland to Stockholm. The trip that would take me to Karin, and the end of a seven-year-old dream.

I chased those thoughts away as the train pulled into the familiar confines of Göteborg’s main train station - Centralstationen. I grabbed my two bags and stepped off the train into the waiting arms of Sofia Katsaros. She hugged me tightly and kissed me softly, then released me so that I could greet her father who shook my hand. Mr. Katsaros took my largest bag and led Sofia and me, now holding hands, to his car. Sofia didn’t let go of my hand the entire way to Hovås. We took my bags to Sofia’s room and she grabbed both my hands.

“Steve, your friend Tina called. She wants to have lunch with you tomorrow. I take it you aren’t visiting her in Alingsås?”

“Correct. She and I talked last month and agreed that there wasn’t much chance of us being together long-term because of the circumstances.”

“Weren’t they similar to ours?” she asked.

“Yes, they were. But you took the bull by the horns and found a way forward,” I smiled.

“Did I? I suppose that I have some chance, but you and Jennifer seem to be on a path that nobody can block.”

“Except Jennifer.”

She looked questioningly at me, and then asked, “What haven’t you told me?”

“What just happened this past week. Jennifer and I were together because of my friend Melanie’s wedding. A wedding where she was maid of honor and I was best man. Where my date was my friend Bethany and her date was her friend Josie. Her girlfriend Josie,” I sighed.

“Girlfriend?” she asked with a confused look on her face.

“Sofia, you live in Sweden, you know what I’m talking about. Don’t tell me you’ve gone prudish on me!” I chuckled.

“Sorry, no, it’s just I thought you two, you know...”

“Yes, we did. And we do. But she’s lesbian and wants to be with Josie. She wants to have a baby with me, but in the end, she and Josie are going to be a couple.”

“There’s a twist I didn’t expect,” Sofia said with a wan smile.

“Me either. So, like I said, you’ve found a way forward.”

“Well, then!” she grinned. “So you and Bethany?”

“Nobody right now. I mean that. Once I changed things with Anala, I went back to my original plan. I’m not going to have a steady girlfriend for my Senior year.”

“You hurt me when you made that arrangement with Anala, Steve.”

“I know. It was a grave error on my part and it hurt all the girls I love quite badly. But, everything that happened has led me to a new place.”

“What new place is that?”

I smiled, “I’ll give you an example. A very cute, available seventeen-year-old Swedish girl flirted with me for nearly eight hours on a flight from Chicago to Copenhagen. She gave me her phone number and said to call her if I got bored. Not only did I not call her, but I had no desire to call her. I had lots of opportunities when I was at Rolf’s 57:an disco as well. I didn’t care. That’s the new place.”

“Which explains Tina. But what does that mean for me?”

“That you, Sofia Katsaros, have me until I leave for Stockholm, to do whatever you wish with me!”

“You wish!” she giggled. “Do you want to call Tina and confirm lunch tomorrow?”

“Yes. Did you talk with Torbjörn and Katt?”

“Yes. There’s a party on Sunday afternoon in the park across from Torbjörn’s apartment, just like the one last year. We tried to invite everyone, but some people have moved away. Your important friends will be there, though. You and I are going out with Katt and Mikael on Monday night. Otherwise, there aren’t any real plans. Petra isn’t around - she’s on a trip to Rhodes for the travel agency she works for, and Thomas and Anna-Carin left for a vacation in Majorca. Frederick is spending the summer with his friend in Uppsala.”

“It’s funny - all my Swedish friends are scattering far and wide, but my American friends are all coming together in Chicago.”

“And I’m joining them, doing both, I guess.”

“True. What about Suzana Jonsson?” I asked.

“She’s coming to the party with Gustaf. They’re pretty serious. She’s looking forward to seeing you again. I can’t say the same for her parents. Her dad still hates you.”

“Let him. I’ve got no time to worry about him. And I just don’t give a damn. Suzana and I were together because we wanted to be together. That’s the end of it.”

“Otherwise, about half your classmates are around, according to Torbjörn. I think it’s the important ones - Helge, Elizabeth, and Suzanne, for sure. Is there anyone else you want to see while you’re here?”

“Just you, Sofia.”

“And Karin. What are you going to tell her?”

“The truth. Nothing but the truth. She’s been dating, nothing serious yet, sort of biding her time. I think we’ve finally reached the end of the line. There’s no reason for her to wait until next summer to decide. It’s just not going to happen. I don’t even know if I’ll be sleeping in her room or the guest room. In a way, it would be fitting for me to end things where they started, so to speak, by sleeping alone in Birgit’s old room.”

“I never, ever thought I’d be the last of your Swedish girls. I always thought it would be Karin who would be the one. Tina was just a fling, and you both recognized that. Pia couldn’t do what I did - come to the US. So here we are. I just wish I knew where ‘here’ was,” she said.

I pulled her into my arms, “You’re coming to Chicago. Living in my house. I’d say that gives you a fair chance.”

“I don’t want a fair chance! It’s not about fighting fair! It’s about being the last one standing like you always said your friend Joyce was trying to be. I hope you don’t expect a Greek girl to fight fair!”

I chuckled, “Half-Greek!”

“The other half is Swedish. Do you think it wise to cross a Swedish woman?” she said, hands on her hips.

“Uh, no. That’s a bad idea, from what I’ve seen!” I grinned. “So what are you telling me?”

“Just that I intend to do my best to win the battle for your heart.”

“Sofia, it’s more complicated than that. You heard what I said about Jennifer. That’s not the only complication. The question you have to answer, but not today, is whether or not you can accept me for who and what I am, and what I’m going to do with my life.”

“Of course I can’t answer today. I need to really know you. I did when you lived here, but neither you nor I are the same person we were in 1980. All of my former silliness aside, if you asked me to marry you today, I’d say ‘maybe’, not ‘yes’. Why do you think I decided to go to school in Chicago?”

I nodded, “Because we’re adults now, not kids, and you are different and I am different. You want to get to know me as an adult, not a sixteen year-old kid.”

“Yes. I was fourteen then, and I was madly in love with you, but I couldn’t have you the way I wanted.”

“Was?” I asked gently.

“Was. It’s different now. That love, and what I feel for you now, are different. I’m no longer a child, Steve. And neither are you. In Chicago, we’ll find out if we’re meant to be together or not. I know that your life is complicated, but I also know that something fundamental has changed. You were the biggest pussy hound I know. But not anymore. If that can change, anything can change.”

“Pussy hound?” I chuckled.

“Got another word for a guy who puts his penis into every willing vagina?” she smirked.

“Including yours. And you enjoyed it, if I recall correctly,” I smirked.

She stepped past me and shut and locked the door to her room. She turned and smiled at me.

“I don’t recall,” she said slyly. “Perhaps you could refresh my memory?”

I took her in my arms and we kissed softly. I undressed her and she undressed me, and we got into her bed and made love, passionately and slowly, remembering each other’s bodies and how to please them. When we finished, sweaty and satisfied, I pulled her to me to cuddle.

“Steve,” she said shyly. “When I get to Chicago I want to do something I’ve never done. Something I know you know how to do and have done before. Are you willing to teach me?”

I wasn’t sure what she meant, though when she pulled my hand to her butt cheek, I knew. And that was something I’d be more than happy to help her with.

“If you want to, Sofia. Just ask. I’d love to! But why wait for Chicago?” I said.

She giggled, “You are SO easy! I meant teach me to drive, silly!”

I laughed hard, “You got me! Yes, I’ll teach you to drive. Though that other thing would be fun, too!”

She grinned, “So you say. I don’t think so.”

“You never know until you try!” I teased.

“I’ll try driving first, I think!”

“First?”

“You are bad!” she giggled.

“Yes I am!”

There was a soft knock at the door.

“Sofia, dinner in twenty minutes,” her mother said.

“OK,” Sofia said.

She got up and put on her robe. I got mine from my bag and we went to the bathroom to shower before coming back to her room to dress.

“Are you bringing the poster and the hockey stick?” I asked, seeing them on the wall.

“Of course I am! It wouldn’t be my room without your old hockey stick! Do you still skate?”

“I haven’t skated much back in the States. I need to start again.”

“We’ll remedy that for certain. I have my class schedule. I just need to get my books and then I’m all set to start school on August 22nd. Do you start the same day?”

“Yes. Did you look at the map and see how far it is from my house to school?”

“Yes. They sent me a lot of materials. I think the easiest thing to do is take the elevated train. The only problem might be that it’s more than two kilometers to the train.”

“I can drop you at the train on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I work on Tuesday and Thursday, so I leave pretty early and get home fairly late. Everyone in the house has a car, though, so I’m sure we can work that out, especially if you learn to drive. Worst case, there is a bus that runs along 47th Street, so you’d only have to walk a couple of blocks to catch it.”

“I arranged things so that I have four classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and another class that meets on Tuesday. So Thursday isn’t important unless I have to go to the library or something like that.”

“There’s a huge library at the University of Chicago and they have reciprocal rights with the other schools. I use it instead of IIT’s library because it’s way better.”

“Dinner!” we heard Sofia’s mom call out.

We went to the table and I greeted Mrs. Katsaros. I felt a bit awkward because I hadn’t greeted her when we came in and had gone to Sofia’s room where we ended up making love. Anne-Marie Katsaros had always been uncomfortable with me being with her daughter, though her father had a very different opinion, at one point even encouraging me to take Sofia to bed. I shouldn’t have worried.

“It’s good to see you again, Steve,” Anne-Marie said. “And I’m glad that you can take in Sofia when she comes to Chicago. I feel much better knowing that she’ll be with you. I understand you have a nice house. I assume it’s in a safe neighborhood.”

“Thanks. And yes, it’s in a very safe part of town. Loyola is quite safe as well. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I’ll take care of her.”

“I hope you’ll do more than that!” Costas said with a grin. “But I know that my wishes come as no surprise to you.”

“Not at all,” I said. “You made that quite clear some time ago. You’d like nothing more than for me to put a ring on your daughter’s left hand. And before Sofia protests, it doesn’t bother me at all. I could do far worse for in-laws than you and Anne-Marie.”

“Thanks,” Costas said with a smile. “You’ve had the honeymoon, so can we expect a wedding to follow?”

“Dad!” Sofia protested. “Please let me handle that! I’m Greek and I know how to conclude a deal!”

Costas chuckled, “You are so much like your grandfather. Cool and calculating, biding your time. Promise me one thing, and one thing only.”

“You’ll have to tell me what it is first,” Sofia said.

“That you will marry in a proper church. An Orthodox church. And that you will baptize your children Orthodox.”

“I can make that promise for me, but not for Steve,” Sofia said. “But I wonder why, when we don’t go to church as a family and you only go occasionally?”

“I made an agreement with your mother when we married that I would never force her go to church. You know I go for Pascha and sometimes other Holy Days. Your grandfather went every Sunday and every Holy Day. He was unhappy with my agreement with your mom. But, because he provided the money for you to go to school in America, the least you can do is honor his memory that way. I’m not asking you to go to church, just to marry in the church and baptize your children.”

“Sofia,” I said. “Believe it or not, I think you should agree.”

“But you don’t go to church! Heck, you don’t believe any more than I do.”

“It’s true I don’t go to church. As for the second part, well, I have no idea what I believe or what you believe. On the other hand, I’ve found many things to like in the Orthodox services I’ve been to, and in the books I’ve read. So make the promise if it’s what you feel is right. Should we end up together, I’ll help you keep your promise.”

Sofia smiled, “I guess you’ve got your promise of Orthodox grandkids!”

Costas nodded and said nothing further. I knew that he was making it clear to me that he wanted me to marry his daughter. It wasn’t outside the realm of possibility, but with Bethany, Penny, Kara, and Tatyana back home, I wouldn’t put odds on who my wife was going to be any more than Jackie would. That was a question for another day.

After dinner, Sofia and I walked around Hovås, and I let the memories of the year I’d spent in Sweden as an exchange student flood my mind. I remembered the first time I was with Sofia, her becoming my friend, but no longer a lover, and then the frantic act of lovemaking just before I had went home. It was that act that had changed the course of our relationship.

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 10 Journey

August 2, 1991, New York City, New York “Steve!” I heard as I came out into the arrival hall at LaGuardia Airport at 5:00pm. I saw a well-tanned blonde girl waving and to my shock, realized it was Lyudmila. She looked every bit of what I thought a ‘California Surfer Chick’ would look like. Sun-bleached blonde hair, pulled back in a loose ponytail, with stray strands hanging down over her ears; no makeup; a colorful, loose-fitting ‘crop-top’; what appeared to be a bikini rather than a bra,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 24 Sophomore Year Begins

August-September 1978 The next week flew by. On Sunday, we used my tickets and went to another baseball game. The Reds were hosting the Cubs. Tom Seaver pitched a lousy game and the Reds lost 7-1. Bethany joined us this time, because Mary wasn’t able to go. As luck would have it, the same guys were sitting behind us. “Hey, what happened to the sexy blonde?” “She couldn’t make it today, but this is another one that he’s had sex with,” Melanie said. “Melanie!” I growled. “Oh stop, Steve!”...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 37 Journeys End Part II

July 1980, Göteborg/Hovås, Sweden When I arrived home, the house was empty because everyone was at the station meeting Peter’s train. I went to my room and wrote in my journal. I was still very conflicted about what I’d done with Sofia and wasn’t sure that I’d made the right decision for me. I had certainly done the right thing for her, and maybe that was the proper way to judge my actions. About an hour later, I heard the front door open and went upstairs to meet Peter Jonsson for the...

Her First StoryI asked my wife to tell me about the time she went to a management retreat at Wrightsville Beach, NC with her hospital management team.Jaycee was 33 at the time and managed the local hospital's process improvement office. Jaycee is 5'3", 125 lbs, blonde hair blue eyes and size 34C breasts. A Legends End a New Journey Begins

The Ocean of Tears was calm and the winds steady for the journey across the large expanse of deep water. The ships Captain knew he was lucky on this trip as normally they would have had to ride out at least one heavy storm. He looked at the passenger that stayed on the deck, under the sun as much as she could. He knew it was unusual for one of the wood elven race to prefer the open rather than the cover of the wood. He did not object to her presence so long as she stayed out of the way of the...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 36 Journeys End Part I

July 1980, Göteborg/Hovås, Sweden It was early Wednesday evening when I arrived back in Hovås for one more week, after which I’d be heading to Helsingborg to see Pia. From there, I’d go home to Milford. I called Pia to confirm my arrival on Wednesday around noon and let her know that I had to be on the train to Copenhagen at 10:00am. We’d have lunch with the Anderbergs then spend the rest of the time at her family’s apartment. I spoke to Anders and Eva and they said the only thing they had...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

Anticipation Part I The Journey Begins

Lead-In Only: She was told that the key would be at the front desk. She was so nervous when she drove into the parking lot that she almost slammed into a car backing out of a space. Waving her apology; her hands now gripped the steering wheel like a vise and a life-line as she pulled into a space. She couldn’t muster the nerve yet to get out of the car and walk the few steps to the front entrance of the hotel. Her hands were shaking slightly and she felt the sweat begin to bead on her forehead....

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

The Journey Begins

I am currently rewriting this story with some minor and major changes to the story and cleaning up parts that did not come out as well as I had liked. Currently I am focusing on the story itself first with the reader being able to skip the sex scenes if they wish. The new version of the story can be found here. The Kingdom Of Eros: The Journey Begins I had been traveling for a fortnight now. I had left my old boring life in a quiet little town in the forest with what I could carry. A pack on...

The Journey BeginsHe waited, naked, tied spread eagle to the upright rectangular frame that stood upon a circular dais like an empty doorframe in the middle of the room. She had told him to survey the wall in front him and reflect upon the various implements that hung there or rested upon shelves. “Think of what those will do to you”, She had told him earlier, “you may end up intimately knowing of each one, If I choose.” She patted his bare ass, “I’m going to rest, I’ll be back when I want...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. My Journey Book 1 CollarsChapter 20

Friday was a rainy, filthy mess, like the evening before had been. Patty and Dan arrived early with breakfast, rescuing me from another day of hospital food, but ended up leaving almost right away since Dan was dropping her at home. I read a book on basic home repair and then took some time to practice the breathing that Dr. Spencer had taught me, letting myself descend into the point where I didn’t really feel...

Desire and Despair Book 3 of Poachers ProgressChapter 17 A Journey and a Wedding

My plan for the journey to Grantham worked as intended, and Caroline received an invitation from Lord Brownlow to stay at Belton House during her visit. I also received a missive from the noble Lord which 'requested' me: 'To escort Lady Caroline Braxton-Clark and her son, the Tenth Earl of Hungerford, to Grantham to attend the wedding of Colonel Slade and Miss Teazle. As both Colonel Slade and you are members of The Sixty Ninth Foot, the regiment of which I am honoured to be...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 20 It Happened One Night

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. Our flight back on Thursday leaves LA at 11:00am, so we’ll be home by 8:00pm, I...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 32 Still Together

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 79 The Last Risk Of Freeze

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

The Three Signs Book 2 LoriChapter 28 Live at the Lifesaver

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 4 And So It Begins

February 24, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What the heck were you thinking?” I asked testily. April and I were in my study, and I was giving her a hard time about being with Jesse. I didn’t REALLY have a problem with it, but I did need to make a couple of points with her. “I thought you’d be OK with it!” April protested. “Jennifer even let me spend the night with Jesse on Tuesday!” “You’re thirty-four! He’s fourteen!” “Steve, I’m sorry. I honestly thought you were OK with it! Your first was...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 17 Senior Year Begins

August 1980, Milford, Ohio On Monday morning, Stephanie and I got up early enough to swim and eat breakfast together. Stephanie was starting eighth grade, so she’d be riding Bus #8 with me. Unfortunately, Jeff was also on the same bus, but I didn’t really worry to much about that because of what I planned to do. My first order of business, when I got to school, would be to get a parking pass which Seniors could get automatically just by asking. I also knew that Mom would then insist that I...

My Journey Book 1 CollarsChapter 2

My first awareness after that was a white light and some faraway music. “Died and gone to Heaven,” I murmured thickly. I heard giggling and curiosity pulled me in the direction of the sound. I rolled my head from side to side slowly and tried to claw my way back to consciousness, like a diver swimming back toward the surface of a deep pond. I blinked and my eyes started to focus, the white light resolving into a large overhead lamp. The music sharpened to a steady tone of a heart monitor and...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

My Journey Book 1 CollarsChapter 25

Monday morning was as perfect a day as I could have asked for from August. It was hot and sunny without a cloud in the sky. I longed to go to the beach, but today was my first day with the program officially. It was the most important day of my life. I just didn’t know it yet. I sighed and put my laptop and a couple of notepads and pens into the backpack I’d gotten from the Harvard bookstore after breakfast and the girls assured me that they weren’t going to be out in the sun either. They...

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

Dave and his parents were awake and on the road by five o'clock in the morning. They each took turns driving and, except for quick re-fueling, they only stopped twice: once for dinner in Portland, Maine and once for supper in Hartford, Connecticut. They drove past New York and Washington during the night and continued until they found a motel in Virginia and stopped for the night. They slept until ten o'clock; then they got up, showered, ate, and got back on the road well before noon. Dave...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. She nodded in understanding and slipped out of the room, leaving me to compose my thoughts and then go back to searching. I went back to the shelf I’d been searching and started dragging books out of the shelf and putting them on the desk in stacks. It was a slow process because I could only handle one book at a time while I was on crutches. I was still tackling the top shelf when I heard someone knock at the office door. I turned and smiled, seeing Patty standing there. “Hi, Patty,” I said...

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...
