August 1980, Milford, Ohio

On Monday morning, Stephanie and I got up early enough to swim and eat breakfast together. Stephanie was starting eighth grade, so she’d be riding Bus #8 with me. Unfortunately, Jeff was also on the same bus, but I didn’t really worry to much about that because of what I planned to do. My first order of business, when I got to school, would be to get a parking pass which Seniors could get automatically just by asking. I also knew that Mom would then insist that I give Jeff a ride, so I was going to make sure that I offered Debbie and Mary rides to school. I cleared that plan with Dad before we walked out to the bus.

The bus stopped right at our driveway, and usually Debbie C and Donna would get on the bus with us, then on the way back out of the street we’d stop and pick up Debbie V and her sister Tracy. Donna wasn’t there, because they had moved. Debbie C wasn’t there either, but that was because she was due any day, I guessed she was going to wait until after the baby was born to actually go to school. I decided I’d check on her that afternoon and see if I could bring her schoolwork, much as I had helped Melanie when she had been hurt.

When Debbie V and Mary got on at their houses, I asked them about riding with me. Both of them immediately said yes and couldn’t wait to see the car. Mary teased me, of course.

“That back seat would be kind of cramped to fool around in!” she said with an impish grin.

“I prefer beds, Mary, you know that! Or at the very least, blankets on the floor in your basement!”

Debbie V’s eyes grew wide, “You two? I had no idea!”

“Well, we used to. He’s touchy about the fact that I have a steady boyfriend,” Mary teased.

“He should be, Mary!” Stephanie chimed in.

“Hi, Steve!” Cindy said with a big smile.

“Hey, Cindy, how are things going?”

“Great! You should stop by sometime!”

I let that comment go. We arrived at school and I got off the bus at the High School along with Jeff, Mary, Debbie, and Cindy. Stephanie and Tracy stayed on for the short ride to the Junior High. Almost as soon as I stepped off the bus, Kellie Linden ran up to me.

“Steve! Hi! You’re back!”

“Hi, Kellie, how are you?”

“Good! I’ll see you at lunch and you can tell me all about Sweden!”

“See you at lunch,” I replied without much enthusiasm.

I still had no interest in Kellie and even if I had, she hadn’t been that much fun. I’d much rather be with Debbie V or Erin than Kellie.

I walked right to the office and filled out the short form for a parking pass. I handed it in and a minute later I had a sticker to put on my window. I went and found my locker. This year it was #102 and there was a short brunette by locker #101, and of course, Tim Abbott had locker #100.

I was pleased to see that my homeroom for the year was with Mr. Herbers, who taught the computer classes and ran the computer lab. As I was walking to his room, Miss Barkhurst, the biology teacher, stopped me in the hall.

“Steve, would you be willing to be a student aide for biology during your study hall period?”

I had been surprised that my schedule included study hall despite taking both junior and Senior English as well as both chemistry and physics. My original plan had been to be in the computer lab, but on the spur-of-the-moment I decided that I didn’t really need the extra computer time.

“Sure Miss Barkhurst. I have my study hall fourth period, the first two quarters, and fifth period for the rest of the year.”

She said she’d let the office know and that I should come to her classroom starting the next day. I said that I’d see her then and continued down the hall to Mr. Herbers’ room.

“Welcome back, Steve!” Mr. Herbers said.

“Hi, Mr. Herbers. Do you think I could get a key to the computer lab again this year?”

“On one condition,” he said with a grin.

“And that is?”

“I want you to help teach the introductory class at the Junior High after school on Tuesdays.”

That was the perfect day because the chess team schedule showed most of the meets on Wednesdays.

“Of course,” I said. “I’d be happy to!”

I took my seat and realized that it was going to be a very busy year. Somewhere along the way I’d need to investigate colleges, I’d need to take the SAT and ACT tests, visit colleges, work with Beth and find some time for homework. And girls, of course! The bell rang and the school year began.

At lunch, I saw Larry sitting at the same table we had used during our Sophomore year. There was a spot open next to him that he pointed me to. Brent, Ralph, Mary, and Cindy were already at the table. A few minutes later, Kathy and Kellie came in and sat down. It looked like Beth, Bethany, Erin, and Debbie V weren’t on this lunch. I was bombarded with questions and had to make sure I took bites of my lunch so that I could actually finish it!

Larry reminded me that I needed to show up to the first chess club meeting on Wednesday so that I could meet the team and the new coach, and make sure I had all the information I needed. I promised I’d be there. I asked him about the last spot on the team and he said that they probably would end up with a Freshman on the team, most likely a kid named Bill Watt.

As all of us were heading back to class, Erin pulled me aside and asked if I had my driving license and if I did, when we could go out. I told her I’d talk to her later in the week. I still hadn’t decided exactly how to handle Erin. What I didn’t want was another situation like I had just experienced with Bethany.

I saw Bethany in German class and because Mr. Grathwohl allowed us to choose our seats, we sat next to each other in the front row. I had heard lots of good things about Fritz Grathwohl, and they all appeared to be true. He joked with the class and his first order of business was to get everyone to join the German club. He handed out a list of activities and I could see that his reputation was warranted. In addition to the usual get-togethers, he had a trip to the International Folk Festival in Cincinnati, a dinner at a German restaurant, and a ski trip in Michigan during Christmas break.

I checked the dates and the trip would be from the 26th through the 28th of December. It didn’t conflict with Katt’s skating competition in Columbus, which was good. Of course, I needed to talk to Jennifer to find out what her plans were for Christmas break. Despite the cost and the distance, I was determined to go, if at all possible. I’d find out from Jennifer on Sunday what her parents had to say.

Bethany leaned over and whispered, “Let’s room together on the ski trip!” with a smirk.

“Bethany! I thought we had an agreement! And Mr. Grathwohl is unlikely to allow it!” I chuckled.

She just smiled at me. I wondered if she could actually keep her promise to behave. I’d have to talk to her about this at some point. Hopefully, she was just teasing. There were too many complications because of her feelings for me.

When I arrived home, I went to Dad’s office and let him know that I had the parking pass and would be driving to school. I also let him know that I had offered rides to Debbie and Mary as I had said I would, and that I’d take Stephanie with me as well. Mom’s reaction did not surprise me.

“If you can give Stephanie a ride, then you need to give Jeff a ride as well.”

“Mom, I already cleared all of this with Dad. It’s my car, so it’s my decision.”

“Then your sister may not ride with you.”

“Take it up with Dad. I’m not arguing with you, Mom.”

I turned and left the room and shut the door behind me. I didn’t want to hear it, and I certainly didn’t want Stephanie to hear it. I’d worry about the fallout once they had discussed it. At dinner, the solution to the problem came from an unexpected direction. When Mom raised the issue, Jeff said he didn’t want to ride with me. Mom looked daggers at him, but Dad smiled. I guessed what had happened — Dad had talked to Jeff and neatly cut the Gordian knot.

After dinner I decided that I needed to have the talk with Bethany sooner rather than later, so I called to see if she wanted to get some ice cream. She quickly agreed. I told Dad I’d be gone for about an hour, then got in my car and drove to pick up Bethany and take her to Graeter’s where we each ordered sundaes.

“Steve,” Bethany asked with a smirk, “do you want my cherry?”

“Bethany! I thought we had an agreement,” I said, repeating what I had said in German class.

“I’m sorry. But let me ask you a question, OK? It’s something I should have brought up the other day.”

“Of course.”

“Did you still feel that same electric feeling when we had sex?”

“Not the most recent one, no. But the other times, yes.”

“Don’t count the recent one. Neither of us was thinking clearly. That was just kind of raw sex.”

“Please don’t beat around the bush,” I requested. “What are you trying to say?”

“I want to do an experiment.”

“What kind of experiment?”

“I want you to give me a soft, sexy kiss. Just one. I want to see what happens. You have to be totally honest with me about it.”

I knew what she was going for at that point. She knew that if I felt a connection with her, that I’d have to reconsider my decision. The problem was, nothing else had changed, nor would it likely change.

“Bethany, what do you think that will accomplish? I know what you think will happen, but don’t we still have the same issues? That you want someone totally devoted to you and I can’t do that.”

“Isn’t that what Joyce and Elyse both want, too? Isn’t that why they are taking it slow with you? We talked about that. It’s what made me think this through and why I teased you earlier.”

She had a point. But she wasn’t taking it slowly at all. That was the difference.

“There is a big difference, actually. I’m not having sex with either of them. It’s not clear if or when that will happen. That’s taking it slow. You, on the other hand, want to take it quickly. And I’m still afraid that you’re putting too much faith in things working out the way you want them to.”

“Steve, would you just shut up and kiss me like I asked? If nothing special happens, then this discussion is moot.”

I realized that she wasn’t going to let this go and, honestly, the thought about the connection had given me pause the other day. I had one more bolt to fire. I was going to go against what Stephanie had advised me and tell Bethany about us.

“Let’s finish our ice cream. I have something I need to tell you, but it needs to be in private. If after that you still want to kiss, I’ll kiss you like you asked.”

We finished our sundaes and walked out to the car and I pulled out of the lot. I didn’t head home, but drove down Route 50 so we could talk.

“Bethany, there’s something really important about me that you need to know, and I’m afraid it might shock you.”

“What? What could possibly be as bad as what I told you on our very first date?”

“Stephanie and I are emotionally, romantically, and,” I paused briefly, “physically attracted to each other.”

Bethany gasped, and I saw a look of shock on her face, but then she composed herself.

“From the way you two act around each other, it’s pretty obvious, now that I think about it. But I’m surprised to hear you admit it,” she said. Then, as the thought formed in her mind, she reeled again, surprised, “Wait! You’re actually going to act on that attraction? Oh my God, Steve!”

“It’s something that Stephanie has apparently wanted since she was seven,” I said slowly. “I had never realized it until Jennifer and Melanie told me about it once they had figured it out. I had been clueless about my own attraction to her, thinking it was just intense sibling love. I was as shocked when they told me, as you are now. After long, careful thought, I’ve come to terms with it and I’m comfortable with it.”

“OK,” Bethany said, speaking slowly. “That’s at least as bad as what I told you after the dance, but in some ways, it’s far worse. I don’t even know what to say.”

“Which is why I had to tell you now, before anything else happens.”

“Doctor Mercer deals with incest as well, Steve. Have you talked to her about this? I know one girl who she treats that had sex with her brother and has serious problems because of it.”

“No, I haven’t, and I don’t plan to. I don’t think either of us has any problems with this. And it’s not an accidental thing nor is it a spur-of-the-moment thing. Stephanie and I talked about it before I left for Sweden. From the time I knew until the time it happens, it will be two years or so.”

Bethany sat quietly as I drove. I made a turn that would take us back towards Milford and waited for her to think things through. My stomach was queasy. What would happen if Bethany said nothing else and then told someone? Would they come after me? Would they separate us?

As we got closer to her house, I wondered if I should keep driving or simply take her home. I decided the best thing to do was take her home. I only had about ten minutes left in the hour I had promised dad. I pulled into Bethany’s driveway and stopped. She hadn’t spoken, so I figured I had to say something.

“Bethany, do you still want that kiss?”

“No, not right now. I need to talk to your sister first. I’m afraid that she doesn’t really understand what she’s doing.”

“Rape,” I said evenly.

“Yes. That’s exactly my concern. I’m not surprised you got that immediately because you know my history. Drive me to your house.”

It was an order, not a request. I backed out of the driveway and drove the five minutes to my house. Bethany came in with me and we found Stephanie in her room, reading.

“Stephanie, come take a walk with me,” Bethany said softly, but with determination. Again, it was an order, not a request.

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 44 A Journey Begins

June, 1984, Helsingborg, Sweden I spent a couple of days with the Anderbergs, most of which was spent with Rolf at his restaurant and disco. The chef, Axel, remembered me and let me spend the afternoons in the kitchen with him. I really enjoyed working with him, even though for the most part I was just cutting up ingredients, stirring pots, and doing other simple tasks. Both evenings were spent in the disco, dancing and drinking. I made sure to change dance partners regularly, because...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 23 New Years Resolutions

December 31, 1993, Chicago, Illinois For the first time since I’d met him, I wasn’t sending anyone to Alex’s place for New Year’s Eve. It was, perhaps, a bit selfish, but this year I wanted my family and friends around me. Jorge’s death, and the entire situation with Jessica had really driven home just how important that was, not that I hadn’t believed that before. Alex had given me a bit of grief about it, but I reminded him that I’d been there the year before. Not to mention the fact that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

Gretas Story 3 High School Senior Year a Naked in School Tale

Funny, after Sam and Brenda and I returned from Gramma Kramer's the summer quickly melted away into the new school year. Three new things separated junior year and senior year. First I had agreed to take the work-study job with the Program, which in addition to my gardening money and my nursing home hours was putting a tidy sum away for college. My medallion, which identified me as a full time Naked In School participant, had been taken from me on the first day of senior classes. Oddly, a...

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 44 A Journey Ends A Journey Begins

May, 1985, Chicago, Illinois After dinner and karate, Bethany and I went up to my room. We’d agreed to take everything slowly, and savor each step. I hadn’t seen Bethany so excited about sex since the very first time we’d been together in the apartment back in Milford. At each step, she was fighting her urges for us to simply fuck like crazed bunnies. I spent considerable time licking and sucking her nipples, and then traced my tongue down her chest to her stomach, and eventually to her...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 10 Senior Year Fall 1983 through Spring 1984

The first day of school was Tuesday, September sixth. This semester would be filled with AP English, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, and AP Biology. There were the other classes they had to take, like Regents Spanish, Art, R.E., and Physical Education. They shared all their AP and Regents courses, but the rest were separate. David was promoted to Cadet Commander, and had their program been big enough he would have been made Cadet Captain. The promotion was based on his hard work, grades,...

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

The ArrangementChapter 15 Senior Year and Beyond

The summer between Riley’s junior and senior years was a wonderful three months, the first time Riley and I truly lived together. All of the lingering questions about our relationship were answered, I knew we’d be together forever. Although we weren’t engaged (yet!) we might as well have been, and we weren’t shy about being affectionate in public or in private. Of course, only two days after Riley moved in with me, we straddled that “public / private” line, having sex on my balcony shortly...

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 4 And So It Begins

February 24, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What the heck were you thinking?” I asked testily. April and I were in my study, and I was giving her a hard time about being with Jesse. I didn’t REALLY have a problem with it, but I did need to make a couple of points with her. “I thought you’d be OK with it!” April protested. “Jennifer even let me spend the night with Jesse on Tuesday!” “You’re thirty-four! He’s fourteen!” “Steve, I’m sorry. I honestly thought you were OK with it! Your first was...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 35 An Interview and Some New Friends

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 73 Hypothetical Questions

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 74 A Whimper Not A Bang

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A Golfers Dream Book III The Real Education BeginsChapter 7 The Wake Forest Adventure Begins

Dave and his parents were awake and on the road by five o'clock in the morning. They each took turns driving and, except for quick re-fueling, they only stopped twice: once for dinner in Portland, Maine and once for supper in Hartford, Connecticut. They drove past New York and Washington during the night and continued until they found a motel in Virginia and stopped for the night. They slept until ten o'clock; then they got up, showered, ate, and got back on the road well before noon. Dave...

Jock Tales—Senior Year—Opening DayWell, the fanfare was like it had never been. Each year since my Freshman year, it had gotten bigger and bigger. But today, it was like twice as big as last year. The excitement was simple—it was my Senior year, and therefore the beginning of my last year here at East Tyler High. And the top question on everyone's mind--'can he do it a forth year straight'? It had never been done !I had already been interviewed three times this week by every news station in...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 21 He Will Tell Thee What Thou Shalt Do

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

The Three Signs Book 1 CathyChapter 23 Senior High School

My lips were so close to Cathy’s; I could feel her breath on me. Her eyes looked directly into mine, and I felt a huge yearning. I was about to pull her to me, letting my lips lock on hers, wanting to feel her tongue against mine, when I stopped myself, realising what was happening. “Think, William Morris, use your head, don’t blindly rush in!” I heard a voice in my head. “Don’t you remember what you told yourself, what you told Lori? You know what will happen if you give in to your desires,...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

March 28, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “This day belongs to you, Kara!” I said when the three of us woke on Thursday morning. “Happy birthday!” Jessica said. “Thanks,” Kara replied happily. “I think I’d like an amazing birthday fuck from our husband, and then a nice loving shower with my wife!” Kara said. “Do we have enough time?” I asked. Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 100 A Full Circle

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. I nodded, “It started when I was just a bit younger than Natalie. My mom was a total control...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 6 A Tale of Three Cities Part III

July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. It was quiet and peaceful, and...

The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

You were VERY careful with our dance, so I kind of followed your lead.” Which showed very mature thinking on her part. Both of these girls were exactly the kind of students I...

November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...
