December 1984, Chicago, Illinois

On Sunday morning after breakfast, my usual call to Karin, and a call to Katt and Mikael, I dialed Doctor Bauer’s home number. A woman answered and called him to the phone.

“Hi Doctor Bauer, this is Steve Adams. I’m sorry to bother you at home but I have some critical information about the cheating scandal that you need to know right away. I have a couple of people who will testify about what they know about it. One of them is from the University of Chicago, so if we can meet in the evening, that would be best.”

“Let’s meet today in my office. I was planning to be there this afternoon to work on a report. I’ll call the dean and see if he’s free. He lives in Hyde Park, not too far from you. Be in my office at 2:00pm unless you hear from me.”

I agreed, and after I hung up, I went to find Kara, Elyse, and Bert. He’d spent the night because he didn’t want to run into Callie on campus. I let them know about the meeting and said that we’d leave around 1:20pm so that we had time to park, walk to the Stuart Building, and still be fifteen minutes early.

I picked up the phone and dialed Pete and Melanie’s number. I figured I could get good advice from them on how to handle things. Melanie answered and I explained the issue. She asked a bunch of questions which I answered.

“Well, I have exactly one incomplete semester of law school, but rules of evidence is one of my classes. This isn’t a government thing because IIT is a private school, so the rules will be more lax, but basically, your best bet is to write out everything you remember and stick to exactly what you know. If you don’t know or don’t remember, don’t fudge anything. Simply say that you don’t know or don’t remember.

“As for the threats that she made, I think you’ll probably get some grief about making out with her, but if you really only danced with her and kissed, you should be fine. In the end, if it’s as you say, it’s going to look like she tried to seduce you and you backed out. Your friend’s testimony that she threatened a false rape report will be huge. Otherwise, it sounds like you’ll be fine. The fact that your friends will say that she offered them the tests is pretty damning evidence, though it would be tempered by the fact that Kara is your lover. I assume she is again?”

“Yes. And Elyse still is. Bert most definitely is not!” I chuckled.

Melanie laughed, “That’s the ONE thing I can be sure about with you. You realize how dumb it was to kiss that girl, don’t you?”

“Yes. I’m an idiot, but you’ve known that for years,” I chuckled. “And I’ll tell Doctor Bauer that straight up.”

“Hang on, Pete’s asking to talk to you. He’s been listening to one side of the conversation.”

“Steve?” Pete said. “If I understand what’s going on, you’re completely clean on this, but you made a foolish mistake. Make damn sure you tell whoever is investigating exactly what you did and admit your foolishness up front. That will disarm her claims. You need to make sure you get to them first, though. A free admission of a fault is the quickest way to deflect the kind of false claims she’s likely to make. At least in a private hearing like this.”

“Thanks Pete. I already scheduled a meeting with the head of the department and a dean for this afternoon.”

“One other point, which I didn’t hear Melanie say - if there is even the slightest chance that you think that you are under suspicion, get a lawyer right away. I know that you can afford one, and as smart as my wife is, she’s only a first-year law student.”

“It was nice knowing you, Pete,” I chuckled.

He laughed, “She’s looking daggers at me right now, but it’s the truth and she knows it. Don’t mess around with this. You’re going to graduate in a few months and you want to make damned sure that you do and that your academic record is clean. And, you sure as hell don’t want my friends at the Bureau to know about this.”

“Oh God damn! Yeah, you’re right. Thanks for the tip.”

I thanked him and then sat down and wrote out a detailed description of everything that I’d done in the past week, leaving out nothing. I might take some lumps for the make-out session, but Callie was going to have a hell of a time claiming that I’d somehow orchestrated everything. I thought about what I might be able to offer as evidence, and realized that I didn’t have much in the way of concrete proof.

They wouldn’t be able to use my lifestyle against me because I could show income from the sale of my business and the income from the union work I was doing. I also could show that the money to buy the house and upgrade the basement had come from my dad. I also couldn’t imagine that the amount of money that had changed hands was huge, though I didn’t know exactly how widespread this was. Tech News had simply called it ‘widespread’ without any numbers attached.

When I finished, I suggested that Kara and Bert try to remember the day or days that Callie talked to them, and do their best to remember exactly what had been said and what had transpired. They both sat down in my office to make their notes while I made lunch. After we ate, I let the other girls know that I’d be out most of the afternoon, and asked Katy to see if Jackie and Jamie wanted to stay for dinner.

Kara, Bert, Elyse and I left the house as planned, and headed down to IIT. After parking in the nearly empty commuter lot, we walked across State Street then across 29th Street to the Stuart building. We went to the 2nd floor where Doctor Bauer’s office was and went in. The door to his inner office was open, so I went to the doorway and let him know that we were there. He said he’d be ready for us as soon as Dean Stauffer arrived.

We waited about ten minutes until the Dean of Students arrived, greeting us quickly as he went straight into Doctor Bauer’s office. After a few more minutes, Doctor Bauer called us into his office and asked us to sit.

“What do you have for us, Mr. Adams?” he asked.

“Kara Blanchard and Bert Townsend are both here to tell you that Callie Shepherd offered to sell them copies of chemistry and calculus midterm exams. Bert is also going to tell you about a threat Callie made. Elyse Clarke, from University of Chicago, is here to witness what happened between Callie and me at my house last night. And I’m here to explain how this all came about.”

“I’d like to hear from Miss Blanchard and Mr. Townsend first,” Dean Stauffer said. “Miss Blanchard?”

“About a month ago, Callie Shepherd asked me if I wanted to buy copies of the chemistry and calculus midterm exams. She said that she had access to them, that she’d done this before, and it was perfectly safe. I turned her down and said I wasn’t interested. I have an A in both classes and wouldn’t need copies of the test, even if I was inclined to cheat, which I’m not.”

“Did she tell you how much she wanted for the tests?” Dean Stauffer asked.

“No. I told her I wasn’t interested and walked away.”

“And why didn’t you report this?”

“I didn’t want to get involved and didn’t want to get anyone in trouble. And I also didn’t know if she was telling the truth or not.”

“Did you mention this to anyone at all?” he asked.

“Not until yesterday.”

“Thank you, Miss Blanchard. Mr. Townsend?”

“Callie offered me the same thing. She told me that each test was $50, and came with an answer key. I told her that I wasn’t interested at all, and that I was going to report her. She threatened me by saying she’d accuse me of trying to rape her if I said anything. I also saw her give what looked like test copies to another student, and get money in exchange.”

“And the name of this student?” Dean Stauffer asked.

Bert sighed, “Sorry, Steve. It was Charlie Johnson, Doctor Stauffer.”

I blew out a long breath. She’d lied to me as well. That revelation really hurt, because she’d been the first person I’d chosen for my team and I was so confident than she hadn’t been involved. I couldn’t imagine Bert lying about it at this point. It appeared that only Bert was completely innocent, assuming that he was telling the complete truth.

“Mr. Townsend, was it your idea to have Steve as your character witness?” Doctor Bauer asked.

“No, that was Callie’s idea. She told Charlie to do the same thing. She said that because Steve was your ‘pet student’ that would protect all of us.”

Doctor Bauer smiled grimly, “I’m not sure ‘pet student’ is right, but he is the top in his class. Go on.”

“She tried to seduce him last night, I guess as a way to control him, but his friends here, Kara and Elyse, intervened before he did anything other than dance with her, I guess.”

I interrupted, “I kissed her as well. It’s all in my document here.” I lifted the printout up to show it.

“That was foolish in the extreme, Mr. Adams,” Doctor Bauer said sternly. “But we’ll talk about that when we get to you.”

Bert continued, “I’m pretty sure that she was either going to use the sex against him, or make the same threat she did against me. I didn’t cheat, and I don’t have copies of any exams, and I never, ever, thought Steve was involved in any way.”

“How long have you known Miss Shepherd?” Dean Stauffer asked.

“Since Freshman orientation last year. We’re both from Wisconsin and we kind of hit it off as friends. We both were invited to Steve’s house by Charlie Johnson for the Saturday study group. Steve has helped me a lot. I know he tutored Charlie before he started working, but now he just helps people on Saturdays at his house for free.”

“When did you know Miss Shepherd became involved in this?” Doctor Bauer asked.

“Last spring. She had copies of the chemistry and calculus tests, and some others.”

“Do you have any idea how she got them?” Dean Stauffer asked.

“Supposedly from a graduate TA, at least for the math test,” Bert said.

Doctor Bauer looked pained. That put it squarely on him, at least with regard to the math tests.

“Do you know if she was the main person involved?” Doctor Bauer said.

“No, I’m pretty sure she was working with a Senior she met when we first came to IIT. Well, he was a Junior then. I don’t know his name, though, but I could identify him by sight.”

“Thank you, Mr. Townsend. Miss Clarke?”

“I’m just here to back up Steve’s story from last night in case Callie makes any accusations, and to confirm that all he did was kiss her.”

“OK. Then, Mr. Adams,” Dean Stauffer said.

I handed both of them copies of what I had written and then talked them through everything. As Pete had advised, I was completely honest about what happened and took responsibility for behaving improperly, especially in light of my conversation with Doctor Bauer and Scott Bannerman the week before.

“I’m disappointed in your behavior, Mr. Adams. You, of all people, should have known better. Whatever Miss Shepherd did to entice you, you are still responsible for behaving in a mature, professional manner. Something like this in the work world could go horribly wrong. I’m hoping that you learn your lesson. There may be some fallout from this, depending on how things go. I assume you’re willing to say all of this in a formal situation?”

“I put it in writing,” I replied. “I have absolutely nothing to hide. I was stupid to kiss her, but beyond that, I have no involvement. I am, on the other hand, very upset about Charlie. I feel completely betrayed there. Scott’s going to need to know, because she’s an integral member of my team.”

“Mr. Adams, do not say a word to her about this,” Dean Stauffer said sternly. “If you do, then I’ll bring you up before the disciplinary committee for interfering with our investigation. Is that clear to all of you?”

“Yes,” we all said.

“I selected her to make the presentation for my team in Scott’s class on Wednesday. What do I do?”

“At this point, nothing,” Dean Stauffer instructed. “We won’t finish gathering evidence to start any formal disciplinary proceedings before the end of the semester. I’ve heard nothing about cheating in computer science classes. Charlie?”

“Other than the usual plagiarism of programs that we see from time to time, no. And those are dealt with individually.”

“Mr. Adams,” Dean Stauffer said, “you get credit for bringing this to our attention as soon as you found out about it. I’ll leave it to Doctor Bauer to decide what to do about your interaction with Miss Shepherd, if anything. It will stay within the department unless he thinks it necessary to formally report it.”

“I’ll take my lumps, Dean Stauffer. I suspect it will all come out when Callie is brought up on charges before the committee. I was stupid.”

“Off the record, you’re a young, virile college student. These things happen. ON the record, they better never happen again. Understood?”

I noticed Kara and Elyse suppress giggles. I could tell by the way they made faces. I just hoped that neither Doctor Bauer nor Dean Stauffer caught that.

“Understood,” I said firmly.

“Miss Blanchard, at some point you’ll need to give a formal statement, but most likely you won’t need to come before the investigation committee to testify. My secretary will be in touch. Mr. Townsend and Mr. Adams, you will have to appear and testify. In the next few days you’ll each receive a formal letter requesting that you appear sometime in the next two weeks. Miss Clarke, I have no authority over you. Your testimony would only be necessary if Miss Shepherd makes accusations against Mr. Adams.”

“I’ll do whatever I need to for Steve,” Elyse said.

“Dean Stauffer, are either Bert or I under suspicion of any kind?” I asked.

“Not at this point. Obviously, if evidence surfaces that contradicts anything that either of you said, then that could change. Thanks, all of you. I need to speak to Doctor Bauer privately.”

We all got up to leave.

“Mr. Adams,” Doctor Bauer said, “please wait for me to finish with Dean Stauffer so we can talk.”

“Yes, sir,” I said.

The four of us left the inner office, and I pulled he door closed behind us. Bert let out a huge sigh of relief.

“All of you should avoid Callie,” Elyse said. “Steve already told her that she’s not welcome at the house. Charlie is a different situation, at least for now.”

“No kidding,” I said. “Do you know how difficult this is going to be? I want to replace her in Scott’s class but there’s no way I can do that. She lied to my face! And I fucking believed her!”

“I hate to say this, but it won’t be the last time someone does that to you,” Elyse said. “Just be glad that Kara said something. If that had gone any further, you might be in very serious trouble. Will Doctor Bauer do anything?”

Catherine and Callie

I met Catherine when I was 16 and she was 14. She had a high school crush on me, a shy, skinny boy who she had seen playing basketball in her neighborhood park. We were introduced by a mutual friend, and spent a few hours that first day just talking on the swings, until her mother called her in for dinner. Catherine was a beautiful girl, with deep brown eyes, dark brown hair, and an hourglass figure even at her tender age. Though we dated for a few months, we never went farther than kissing...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 51 Fallout and SelfDiscovery

May 1979 The limo dropped me at home about 9:00pm. I took my stuff to my room, stripped, and hung up the tux. The rest of the things went into the hamper. I took a shower, put on shorts and a t-shirt, and walked down the hall into my dad’s office. I saw no reason to put this off any longer. “Stephen, you need to explain yourself!” my mom demanded. “I was in Mrs. McGrath’s, well, Mrs. Sanders’ now, wedding, as I said.” “You walked her down the aisle! You’re sixteen and not even related to...

Catherine and Callie 3

When Catherine arrived, I met her at the door and gave her a huge hug. Callie came bouncing down the stairs and joined us in a group hug. After we were finished, I carried Catherine's bags up to her bedroom and helped her unpack. "So have you two been good?" Catherine asked. "No, Mom, I'm afraid that we've been very bad" was Callie's response. "Excellent!" said Catherine. "I was hoping you'd say that." "Mom, I wanted to say thanks for allowing me to fuck Bob this weekend. He's been the subject...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 67 Blabbermouths

November 13, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “I told you so!” Stephanie said, laughing hard. “And after being fucked by the CPD for years, here’s your chance to return the favor!” “Maybe so, but I’m not sure it’s worth the risk of bringing a police officer anywhere near Cirque du Steve!” “So don’t! She had to have seen your wedding band. Make it a secret affair; well, for her, anyway. You can tell your wives, obviously.” “Don’t you think that’s playing with fire?” I asked. Stephanie laughed,...

Catherine and Callie 2

"Bob, I have a favor to ask of you." Catherine and I had just finished a long and hot fucking session; now both of us were trying to recover our breath. "Anything for you. What is it?" I responded. We had been seeing each other for over a month now, and not only was the sex hot, but I could see this relationship lasting for a long while. "You remember that I have to be out of town for three days next week, right?" "Yes, three days that I'm not sure I can survive" I said with a smile. I said...

She walked into my room and I shut the door. “When did you call her, Squirt?” “Call who?” she said, trying, but failing, to act innocent. “Stephanie, what got Jennifer in trouble? October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

As the plane touched down and motored over to where it could be serviced, we stood around less than five minutes waiting for the courtesy van to take us to long-term parking. We cruised the lot until we found the two Broncos next to my dad’s 1976 Cadillac Sedan Deville, I had keys to the blue Bronco, and so I unlocked the doors. We put all the luggage in my truck Pam and my ladies got in her truck, My parents and their ladies got in the Caddy; they let me drive my own truck Whoopee! We all...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 21 North and South Part III

November, 1981, Chicago, Illinois “How are things going?” I asked. “Amazing!” Kathy said with a huge smile. “He’s just what I needed. Last night was the first time we could sleep in the same bed. Doing that with you was always my favorite thing!” “Oh, really?” I chuckled. “Actually, yes. You holding me in your arms while we slept was the most amazing feeling. Don’t get me wrong, the orgasms were out of this world, but feeling safe, secure, and loved; it’s the best thing there is. And I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 2 StephieChapter 23 Halloween Weekend Part II

October 31/November 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois When the song finished, Courtney simply walked away to join Jody, who was talking with Dale, one of the Navy guys. I decided it was time to talk to Tasha, so I grabbed a drink, and walked over to where she was standing. “Hi,” I said. “Hi,” she said, looking down. “Would you like to dance?” I asked. “I guess.” “You know what? Let’s take a walk instead,” I said. We left the attic room and went downstairs, then out the front door. I took...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 64 Pull the Other One

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

Halloween Story Mallory

“I can’t believe you’re going to wear that costume, Mallory.” It was time for our annual Halloween party and I couldn’t wait. We took turns buying the costumes and that year it was up to Mallory to decide what we were going to wear. She wouldn’t tell me a thing and part of the game is for me to beg and plead for just one little clue. All week long I’d promised her interesting sexual favors and anything else I could think of, but of course she never said a word. Well almost nothing. There was...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 14 Katherine Victoria Will

January, 1985, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back in Hyde Park about ten minutes before the end of the Super Bowl. It didn’t look like it had been much of a contest, given that the score was 38-16, with San Francisco trouncing Miami. I grabbed a Coke and some chips and sat down on the couch next to Julia and Dave. In the room, besides my housemates, were Jamie, Kenneth, Kurt, Kathy, Jorge, George, Charlie, Bert, and Wen. “Julia, I got approval from both guys in Cincinnati,” I said. She...

August 1, 1995, Chicago, Illinois “Steve, there’s a man in reception who says he urgently needs to see you. He won’t give his name, but says it’s an important financial matter and I’m quoting, ‘it would be in his best interest to talk to me.’ Do you want me to call the police?” “No, I’ll come down,” I said. I didn’t put on my blazer or a sweater as I usually did to hide my pistol, but I changed shoes and then went downstairs to where Eve Falvey was sitting. “I need you to come with me,” I...

Loosening Up Book 9 Fantasies Among the WeedsChapter 2 Phi Theta Rho Party Again

Late on Saturday afternoon Dave shifted into his job as one of the bartenders for the Circle. Just as he was ready for a first customer, Emma came racing up to the bar. She was alone and only wearing a monokini, unlike a few hours earlier when her parents and younger sister had visited and she was dressed conservatively. She extended her body over the bar and kissed Dave. “Thank you for being so nice to my parents and sister.” “Of course. They’re nice people. I take it they don’t know a...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

Gallaghers IslandChapter 4 Gallagher Meets the Female HeadHunters

After they had the huts finished, the water supply taken care of and even finding they had plenty of food with the coconuts and the bananas, the fishing was good and Mr. Candleford even managed to trap a wild pig in a pit trap that worked perfectly. The only hard part was to get the carcass out and get it prepared for eating and then to smoke and keep the remaining meat safe for future use. In a sense, it was good that they were there on the island because the things would have started to...

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. Your guess is as good as anyone’s right about now.” “Steve, do you have a minute?”...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1982, Milford, Ohio I woke up early on Friday morning to make breakfast for Kara and her mom before she went to work. Mrs. Blanchard was surprised, but very pleased. After her mom left for work, Kara gave me a fierce kiss. “Thanks for staying in and cooking breakfast for us,” Kara said. “I hope that doesn’t cause you trouble with Stephanie, with you breaking your normal routine.” “Don’t worry about it,” I said, kissing her back. “We got in a bit later than I expected, and she’ll...

Allen to Allie II Nadine Explains All Almost

Hello "gurls"; Nadine here. I have noticed that some of you have actually read Allie's little introduction to what his life is currently like. The poor dear, his life is so hard now. I noticed he inferred many things in his little essay. Yes, of course I read what he wrote as he wrote it, since he is naturally no longer permitted un-supervised use of the computer. I allowed him to post it as is because I was curious to see what kind of reaction his tragic little story would engender. I...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 19 North and South Part I

October, 1981, Chicago, Illinois I was still a bit tired when I woke up Monday morning because of the lack of sleep on Saturday night. I dragged myself out of bed when the alarm rang and went out to run. I could tell I was going to be dragging all day, but because there were no exams and my homework was done, I figured I’d manage through the day and just get to bed a bit earlier tonight. In calculus we received our graded test and I was happy to see a 94, which kept my solid A. I’d made a...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 38 Jennifer

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois After Rosie left, I stripped the sheets from my bed, as well as the cover of the duvet, and tossed everything into the washing machine. I lit a lavender candle in the room, and then swept and dusted. I did a quick spot-check of the rest of the house and noticed that the tub in the sauna needed to be cleaned. I scrubbed it, then mopped the sauna floor with a damp sponge mop. I finished cleaning the sauna about the time the washing machine finished, so I moved...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 85 Burnout

June 15, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Dave had hired two programmers, and to the delight of Doctor Bauer, both had come from IIT. Jeannette Orozco, whom I’d met in Doctor Driesson’s class, and Kanye Frye, who I hadn’t met before I’d had the brief ‘veto’ interview that I usually conducted. I greeted both of them before turning them over to Chris Gibson to fill out their withholding forms and get their IDs, because I needed Kimmy at the leadership meeting. It was a busy day, though Elyse and I...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

October, 1983, Chicago, Illinois On Saturday, I was happy to see that Jorge showed up to study group and spent some time with Stephie on his calculus. She asked him to stay for the party, but he declined. I felt that him showing up for study group was a good sign and that over time we’d be able to ease him into the group. It was a matter of convincing him that we liked him and wanted him to be around because he was an interesting guy who we wanted to hang out with. I only spent about an...

Sins from my Stepmother Book 1 Ch 15

I My name is Teddy Carlson. I’m twenty-two years old and I fucked my stepmother. Not just once in some momentary lapse of judgement. But again and again…and again. Before you judge me, there’s a few things you need to understand. First, Dad and I never exactly got on like a house on fire. He was the CIO of a large hedge fund which meant that he wasn’t around much. He travelled to Europe regularly and commuted during the week to Manhattan for meetings. When he was home, he was either...

Dick van Dyke 1: If They Had Made a Movie Based on the Book "Turnabout" By Ron Dow75 ([email protected]) "Rob, do you *have* to watch this movie?!" Laura said, upset. She was sitting up in her twin bed, trying to ignore what was on the bedroom TV behind her book. "What's wrong with this movie? It's a comedy!" Robert Petrie said from his bed. Trip of a Lifetime Book I I Grieve With TheeChapter 2 Gallipoli

The small group of people, which to Charles' amazement consisted of three different species, entered the living room, where Martin Garret was waiting. "Can I get you some drinks?" Catherine asked their visitors. "Water will suffice," Soval answered and Charles got the distinct impression that, while the Vulcan didn't really need any, he seemed to want to give her something to do. Somehow the Vulcan ambassador in his living room didn't quite match the image of the ice-cool,...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 7 Getting Into the Swing

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois We ended up not getting crazy that night. We made love and fell asleep in each other’s arms. We woke up the next morning and repeated what looked like was going to be the pattern for the school year — I jogged and Elyse showered, I showered, and then we ate breakfast. “Bye, Honey! Have a good day,” she said again. I headed to IIT and after parking I walked into the Stuart Building for Computer Science 200. I’d been permitted to skip CS100 because I already...
