August 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois

“I’m glad you took me up on my offer to go out tonight,” I said.

Jorge smiled, “You can thank Jennifer and Josie. They insisted. Where’s Abbie?”

“Abbie’s meeting us there. She had dinner with Trish and Henry after work. You certainly spent a lot of time in the coach house this week.”

“Jennifer and Josie are good listeners, and they’ve become like sisters. Jesse gave me hugs to make me feel better, too. I think it helped that Jennifer knows your little sister so well.”

“I thought I did, too. This past week has been one seemingly irrational move after the next. And all because you said you wanted to get married at some point. She’s nuts, Jorge. Certifiably nuts.”

“No, she was, is rather, afraid,” Jorge said. “That’s what Jennifer thinks.”

“And Jennifer is probably right,” I sighed. “In a way, it reminds me of what happened between me and Becky. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be married and have kids. The thought never frightened me, but Becky and I were fifteen and she pushed too hard, too fast. Talking about it was cool, and fun, actually. But I couldn’t make the commitment she wanted at age fifteen when I had no idea of who I was or what else I wanted. If she’d been slightly more patient, my life probably would have been very different.

“That said, it’s not exactly a parallel because all you did was tell Stephanie how you felt and what you wanted to work towards. Becky was picking out china patterns and names for our kids. At fifteen! If it had been just fun talk about what the future might hold, or what we’d like to have happen, things might have gone her way,” I sighed deeply. “You know, maybe I’m not helping.”

“It’s OK. You’re right that I didn’t propose. I just told her that someday I’d like to get married, and asked her to think about it. I figured we had a couple of years while she finished her Master’s degree before I’d actually propose. And I could wait. Unlike you, I’m not in a super-rush to have kids! I want some, eventually, but I’m still pretty young, Remember I started at IIT when I was 17.”

“I keep forgetting that you’re only a year older than my sister. By the way, I was a bit surprised at the sleeping arrangements.”

“It did freak Lauren out a bit, but I think Katy and I reassured her enough that it won’t be an issue. Katy was always like a big sister. Not as close as Jennifer and Josie, but still close. Katy didn’t like the fact that I was in a guest room. And I just didn’t feel right sleeping in your sister’s bed, even though she hasn’t been home all week.”

“I could see how that might be a bit uncomfortable,” I said. “Have you talked to her at all?”

“I tried, but she’s refused. I did have a good long talk with Melody. You know we got kind of close after Chrissy died.”

“Yes, and I saw her at the hospital almost constantly when you had your surgery.”

“I think that’s when things sort of started to get rocky with your sister. She couldn’t see the forest for the trees.”

“I told her to forget the battle and win the war, but I think her experience with my mom is what caused that whole issue to blow up. I have to say I’m pretty bummed. I was looking forward to having you as a brother-in-law.”

Jorge nodded soberly, “I hope we can maintain the friendship, but Stephanie is your sister, so I understand if things have to change.”

“I’m not going to let her interfere with my friendship with you one iota,” I said firmly. “She has to figure out how to deal with it. Oh, and before I forget, Kara told me that she requested that you join us for dinner on Sunday with the Jaegers.”

Jorge laughed, “She didn’t ask. She told me to be there in no uncertain terms.”

“They all love you and they’re all looking out for you.”

“I’m grateful. I really am. But you do know I will eventually need to move out.”

“I know,” I sighed. “But don’t act hastily. Katy said you could stay as long as you like.”

“I’ll start looking for a place soon. It’s a little tough because all the college kids are streaming back into the city for school again.”

“Let me know if I can help in any way,” I said.

We parked in the usual parking garage on Illinois and walked to the club. I paid our cover charge and we went inside. Trish, Henry, and Abbie saw us and waved us over. There was a girl with them, and Henry had his arm around her. He introduced her as Gaby. Almost immediately, Trish grabbed Jorge’s hand and led him to the dance floor.

“How’s he doing?” Henry asked.

“All things considered, he’s doing OK,” I said.

“I see he dressed for the occasion,” Abbie observed.

Jorge had dressed in all black, and with his naturally black hair, didn’t stand out like a sore thumb like I did.

“Trish was really worried that she’d messed things up for him,” Henry said.

“She didn’t,” I said. “If my sister had spent five seconds asking a question instead of flying off the handle, things would be OK. I honestly think she simply found an excuse. She’s been behaving erratically for months.”

“She’ll take him home if he’s interested,” Abbie said.

“I’m not sure that’s the best move,” I said. “She should be his friend first, but I’m not going to interfere.”

“Shall we dance?” Abbie smirked. “Or do you have the balls to ask some random goth or punk girl to dance with you?”

“You pick,” I said with a grin. “I’ll ask.”

Henry and Abbie looked at each other and then simultaneously said, “Rhonda!”, and started laughing.

“You two are cruel!” Gaby laughed.

“What am I missing?” I asked.

“You’ll find out,” she said with a silly smile.

“Point me to her,” I chuckled.

Abbie smirked and led me towards a girl who had her back to me. Abbie tapped her on the shoulder and she turned to face us. I did my best to keep my face passive, but I was taken aback by the sheer amount of metal on her face. Three eyebrow rings on each side, at least six piercings in each ear, a stud and ring in her nose, and a ring through her lip. All in addition to the usual black makeup and black clothing.

“Who’s your dork friend, Abbie?” Rhonda asked.

“Rhonda, this is Steve. Steve, this is Rhonda.”

“What’s your malfunction?” Rhonda asked.

“I had the distinct disadvantage of growing up in a conservative, upper-middle class home,” I replied with a grin.

“And you came to the zoo to gawk at the animals?”

“No, I came with my friends Abbie, Henry, and Trish. I’ve been here a couple of times before. I also brought one of my friends who’s dancing with Trish.”

“He let me make up one of his kids, complete with temporary hair dye. And all of his kids love us!”

“Kids? You can have him back, Abbie, he’s no good to me!”

Abbie smirked, “I think you might be surprised.”

“Uh-huh. And even if he could, how good could some dork be? Let me guess, he was a pity fuck!”

Abbie laughed hard, “I think you might find yourself to be terribly mistaken.”

“Want to dance?” I asked.

“Want to fuck?” she asked, as if the question was no different from the one I asked.

Abbie smirked, then turned and walked away.

“How about we dance first?” I said with a smile.

The music was a local punk band that I had never heard of, which was no surprise, given that other than the few groups that Abbie, Trish, and Henry had exposed me to, I didn’t know much. I had, on the other hand, observed enough to know how I was supposed to dance, which was nothing at all like we danced at home. The dance floor was crowded, with bodies bouncing off each other, and Rhonda making sure she rubbed against me every chance she had.

She was what I would call an average build - not thin, but not fat. She was about three inches shorter than me, and had medium-sized breasts. I was, if I was honest with myself, bothered by all the hardware on her face. I thought she might be nice looking, but it was difficult to get past the piercings. At one point, when she yelled out a response to something one of the band members screamed, I noticed an additional piercing - a stud in her tongue.

I hadn’t answered her question and truthfully, I didn’t know if I did want to be with her. And even if I did, there were rules I had to follow, and that meant not doing anything without first talking to Elyse. It also meant making sure that Rhonda was tested. Those gave me a natural, reasonable way to deflect her question without having to say that I wasn’t really attracted to her.

We danced for about twenty minutes and I’d worked up a real sweat. I asked if she wanted a drink and we went over to the bar. She ordered a gin and tonic, and I opted for a Sprite, which drew a derisive comment from her.

“You don’t drink? God! What a square! Abbie must have totally lost her mind!”

“I don’t drink when I’m going to drive. Period. It has nothing to do with being a dork. Put me in the right situation and I’ll drink you under the table. I’ve had plenty of experience drinking vodka with my Russian friends!”

“Sounds like an excuse to me. How about X?”

I shook my head, “No drugs.”

“No drinking. No drugs. You turned down a fuck. What are you doing here, Richie Rich?”

“Listening to the music, hanging out with my friends, dancing, and enjoying the company! And I didn’t turn it down.”

“Sure you did. You didn’t say ‘yes’.”

I smiled, “I don’t fuck on the first date. I’m not that easy!”

Rhonda actually laughed at my lame attempt at humor.

“I can respect that. What about the second date?” she asked.

“Depends on the girl. And a clean STD test.”

“No shit, Sherlock! If you were with Abbie, I’m sure you were tested.”

“And that made it safe to ask?”

“Yes. But also I was sure a rich boy who looked like you would never touch a girl who looked like me.”

I laughed, “Nice try, Rhonda. That was a bit too transparent! You’re trying to put me in a position where if I say ‘no’ I’m a bigot!”

“I can tell you aren’t comfortable with all the jewelry. I have a lot more that would probably shock your sensibilities. And some interesting tattoos.”

I shook my head, “Nothing would shock me at this point. Maybe before I met Abbie back in February, but not now.”

“Uh-huh. Give me your hand, Richie,” she smirked.

I wasn’t sure what she was going to do but, I decided to just go for it. I extended my hand to her. She smirked, and took it, and pulled me a bit closer. She rotated my hand a bit, pressed my palm flat against her stomach with my fingers pointing down, then used her other hand to move the waist of her pants. She pushed my hand down inside her pants, where I quickly discovered she wasn’t wearing underwear. My fingers passed smooth skin and then a small metal knob that I recognized as a piercing. That didn’t surprise me. What I felt next caused me to have to fight hard not to recoil. I felt a series of rings that appeared to pierce her labia. Rhonda smirked as she pushed my hand further, then squeezed her legs together.

“You can’t see the butterfly tattoo,” she smirked.

“Fascinating,” I breathed.

It was fascinating. But it was a complete turn-off. I wanted to see it, just to see it, but the idea of having sex with her just didn’t appeal to me. She released her grip on my hand and I carefully withdrew it from her pants. She smirked and leaned forward, wrapped an arm around me and pulled me to her. She kissed me, hard, ramming her tongue into my mouth. I reflexively kissed back and our tongues fought each other. The stud in her tongue felt very strange as it ran over my tongue and along my teeth.

I felt Rhonda’s hand on my stomach and she slipped it into my pants and inside my briefs. She ran her fingers over my shaft, and then began stroking me, getting exactly the reaction she desired. I suddenly had a picture in my mind of her giving me a blowjob, and that stud running along my shaft. That caused me to instantly become hard and Rhonda squeezed a few times, before she removed her hand and broke the kiss.

“Well, that’s respectable. Not impressive, but respectable.”

I chuckled, “Gee, thanks.”

“Come on, Richie, let’s dance some more!” she grinned, dragging me out to the dance floor.

This time she danced even closer, her body almost always in contact with me. I had no problem at all dancing with her, and the kiss had been interesting, but I didn’t think I wanted to be with her. In fact, I was sure of it. I was also sure that she’d give me no end of grief if I turned her down. The problem was, I didn’t know if I could do it, even had I wanted to. And I didn’t.

The rest of the evening was alternating between dancing and standing at the bar having a drink and her initiating very aggressive French kissing. She was basically putting on a full-court press and I was going along, protected only by my flip, but true, comment about not having sex on the first date in this kind of situation. It was nearly midnight before I rejoined Henry, Gaby, Abbie, Trish, and Jorge. I did a double take when I walked up, and then started laughing. One of the girls, or perhaps Henry, had helped Jorge put on black lipstick and black eyeshadow.

“Perfect,” I said, laughing.

“Where’s Rhonda?” Henry asked.

“Disappointed that I don’t fuck on the first date,” I said.

“Huh?” he asked.

“You know my situation at home. I need permission on a girl-by-girl basis. I didn’t tell Rhonda I needed permission, just that I wasn’t that easy and that I didn’t fuck on the first date. She was disappointed, but not upset. I suspect she’s trying to find a willing partner for tonight.”

“She has no shortage of those!” Trish laughed. “It might have been quite the experience for you.”

“Could be,” I chuckled. “I’m ready to head home, though. We have breakfast with the guys tomorrow. You all can stay if you want.”

“No, I’ll come home with you,” Abbie said.

“I think I’ll stay,” Jorge said, putting his arm around Trish. “I can catch a cab.”

“Cool! See you at home before breakfast, or if you don’t make it home, see you at Alex’s place.”

Abbie and I said goodnight, and left the club. As we were walking down the street towards the parking garage she took my hand.

“So?” she asked.

“Rhonda? She seems cool. Super aggressive, but I’m sure you knew that. I was a bit put off by all the hardware.”

“She told you?” Abbie asked, smirking.

“More like showed me. Well, made me feel. If I can be totally honest, it was a turn off.”

“The rings?”

“Yes. I guess I just don’t get it. I mean, she’s free to do what she wants, but it’s just not my thing. You know how I reacted to your piercings.”

“But you’re OK with them now.”

“It’s not about being OK with them, it’s about what I find sexually stimulating. In your case, I can overlook them! But what she has is really difficult to overlook.”

“Some people are turned off by it. Do you know why we put you with her?”

“To see how I dealt with someone who was more extreme, I would guess.”

“Yes, of course. Let’s just say that if you went home with her, it would be an eye-opening experience!”

“Something beyond the piercings and tattoos?”

“She wasn’t working for herself alone,” Abbie smirked.

“Oh?” I asked.

“She and her boyfriend bring home random people and watch each other fuck. And if their conquests are game, a threesome or a foursome.”

“The conversation we had about expanding my horizons,” I said, nodding. “I’m not sure if I should be upset with you or not.”

“Not. They don’t force anyone. They’re just VERY persuasive!”

“And you thought that was a good idea?”

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

The Three Signs Book 3 JanelleChapter 10 Picking up the Pieces

“Hello, this is Will Morris, I was asked to call,” I said, rather puzzled. “Oh, Mr Morris, this is Senior Constable Victoria Ives from the Mona Vale police station. I’m very sorry to have to tell you this, but ... sadly, your fiancée, Janelle Ward, was killed in a motor vehicle accident earlier this evening.” The others must have seen my reaction; I could feel my legs start to buckle and give way. Garry moved to one side and Murph to the other to steady me, and Mary Beth quickly got a chair...

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 14 Katherine Victoria Will

January, 1985, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back in Hyde Park about ten minutes before the end of the Super Bowl. It didn’t look like it had been much of a contest, given that the score was 38-16, with San Francisco trouncing Miami. I grabbed a Coke and some chips and sat down on the couch next to Julia and Dave. In the room, besides my housemates, were Jamie, Kenneth, Kurt, Kathy, Jorge, George, Charlie, Bert, and Wen. “Julia, I got approval from both guys in Cincinnati,” I said. She...

Loosening Up Book 9 Fantasies Among the WeedsChapter 2 Phi Theta Rho Party Again

Late on Saturday afternoon Dave shifted into his job as one of the bartenders for the Circle. Just as he was ready for a first customer, Emma came racing up to the bar. She was alone and only wearing a monokini, unlike a few hours earlier when her parents and younger sister had visited and she was dressed conservatively. She extended her body over the bar and kissed Dave. “Thank you for being so nice to my parents and sister.” “Of course. They’re nice people. I take it they don’t know a...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 5 Housemates

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

The Three Signs Book 2 LoriChapter 28 Live at the Lifesaver

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 8 Picking up the Pieces Part II

December 30, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The drive to Chicago was incident free, and the conversation, limited. I had played the radio and talked quietly with Stephanie from time to time. Josie and Jennifer were in the back seat, but Jennifer wouldn’t answer anything Josie asked, so eventually Josie had given up. When we arrived in Chicago, I realized that we had a minor conundrum with sleeping arrangements. Jennifer and Josie would each use a guest room, which left a question of what to do...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

Sins from my Stepmother Complete Book 1

I My name is Teddy Carlson. I’m twenty-two years old and I fucked my stepmother. Not just once in some momentary lapse of judgement. But again and again…and again. Before you judge me, there’s a few things you need to understand. First, Dad and I never exactly got on like a house on fire. He was the CIO of a large hedge fund which meant that he wasn’t around much. He travelled to Europe regularly and commuted during the week to Manhattan for meetings. When he was home, he was either...

Picking up the Pieces

This isn't one of my best stories, and the TG element is a little thin, but the story has been bouncing around in my head for some months, so I finally decided to put it down. Picking up the Pieces. By Morpheus It was a gorgeous day to be flying out over the Nevada desert, and all 5 of us had climbed into the small plane for the trip. My name is Allen Corey, and I'm 5 foot 11, and 27 years old. I'm a machinist at a company that makes parts for planes and things, which is...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 16 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I went to my room, closed the door and dialed my old number in Milford and Stephanie answered. “Hi, Stephanie!” “Hey, Big Bro! How’s Chicago?” “Pretty good. A lot of stuff is happening. But I have a favor to ask. Well, really, it’s a favor from Ed. I’m coming home this weekend and I was wondering if I could borrow the keys to the apartment.” “You and Kara? On Saturday? I’m sure the answer is yes. Where are you staying?” “I was going to call Mrs. Spencer...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 20 Get Thee to a Nunnery

September 4, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “These are really interesting pieces,” I said to Siobhán. Kimmy, Elyse, and I were reviewing the two completed pieces that she’d done as examples of what the series would look like. “You don’t like them?” Siobhán asked pensively. “No, I do! Why would you think I didn’t?” “Usually when someone says ‘interesting’ about abstract art it means they don’t like it.” “Sorry, in this case I meant it. Maybe ‘intriguing’ would have been a better word.” She...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. The Three Signs Book 4 LisaChapter 17 Picking up the Pieces

In preparation for the work that would be starting in the back of the studio tomorrow, Lisa and I cleared everything out of the upstairs rooms, rooms that would soon become some overflow bedrooms. Paul and Chris Ramos turned up after lunch with their plans to discuss just how the work would proceed. Of course, they wanted to know all about what happened to me with the shooting, so I had to fill them in on all the details. “That’s pretty fucked up, mate,” Paul said. “And you say he’s Mulock’s...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 7 Picking up the Pieces Part I

December 30, Indianapolis, Indiana At 3:00am, I was sitting in the chair in my hotel room watching Jennifer sleep. It had taken nearly two hours to get her to calm down enough so that I could get her into the bed. Unfortunately, I wasn’t calm enough to sleep. In my mind, thoughts of torture and murder had spun around, and I developed intricate plots to avenge what had been done to Jennifer. I was finally able to put those machinations aside, and thought back over everything that I knew about...

February 16, 1997, Chicago, Illinois Our conversation during the Rap Session was about how to find ‘truth’ and both Elizabeth and I made a strong case for skepticism as the best approach to life. “But if you don’t believe anything is true, how can you decide what to do?” Brenna asked after a lengthy discussion about how to know what was true. “Remember what we said about listening carefully?” Elizabeth asked. “We operate as if the things we’ve come to believe actually are true, but always...

The birds disappeared into the trees, leaving three dead doves and scattered hawk feathers. Lian was down on one knee and Pappy was squatting beside her with one hand on her shoulder. She groaned as she panted. "Are you okay?" Pappy asked anxiously. She was his responsibility. Laoshin had given him that responsibility and he didn't want to disappoint her. April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below.
