BONNIE
The following weeks were glorious for Bonnie. She and Richard were seeing each other each week, sometimes at the office and sometimes at a motel or hotel. If Bonnie had her way she would have left Kevin and become Mrs. Richard Grafton. But Richard showed no inclination in that direction and so she contented herself with the time they spent together and the great sex.
As for Richard, things were working out quite nicely. Bonnie was crazy about him and would do anything for him. If she were really smart she would have left her husband and made a life for herself. She had become a little too clinging of late, however. She couldn't keep her eyes (and sometimes hands) off him at work and it was becoming harder and harder to keep the others from seeing the obvious. She had even called him at home several times just wanting to hear his voice, she said. Whenever they started that, it was time to move on.
Actually Bonnie might become history a little faster than usual. He and his ex-wife's sister, Angie, had had a thing for each other during his entire marriage. They had burned up the sheets at local motels on several occasions. When he was divorced, she had called him wanting to renew the relationship, her own marriage still rocky. They had had several tumbles in bed before she and her husband had moved to another part of the country. But now she was back. She was attractive, perhaps not as attractive as Bonnie, but a much better fuck and married to an idiot who hadn't a clue. So, yes, perhaps it would soon be time to give Bonnie her walking papers. He had often juggled two or three women at once, but it was tiresome and they were forever finding out about each other with all the concomitant furor that entailed. So, one at a time. Angie had to be out of town for the next few weeks. That will work out fine, he thought. Boff Bonnie, then dump her just in time to start nailing Angie when she got back.
LAURA
Of the three women, Laura was perhaps the most conflicted. While Bonnie in her youth and naiveté was blinded by youthful hedonism and Vivian was, because of her overwhelming masochistic tendencies, simply unable to resist the power of her lover, it was Laura who felt true remorse at her unfaithfulness. Yes, Donald was considerably older than she and yes there was a matter of his health which restricted his ability to satisfy her physically, but he was a good and decent man and she hated lying to him and running off to the arms of a younger man behind his back.
Like her two friends, Laura was drawn by circumstances to a man other than her husband. Perhaps, she thought, Bonnie could argue her husband had driven her away with his jealousy and possessiveness. And Vivian was simply answering a call within herself which her husband, decent man though he might be, could never provide. But Laura felt she had no excuse. She had been happily married to Donald for twenty-four years. In that time he had loved her and never had he wavered, not for a single moment. All right, Donald was not the handsomest of men and he was the true academic, much more comfortable contrasting the styles of notable authors than telling a women her eyes captivated him. But that was Donald, a bit shy, certainly introverted. Looking back she wondered how he had managed to capture the department chairmanship which required at least a certain amount of smoozing and campus political know-how. No doubt his long time friendship with the dean had had a lot to do with it since the dean had headed the search committee. Even so, Donald was certainly a capable man, highly respected for his teaching ability if not his administrative prowess.
She shook her head as if to clear it. What was she doing? She knew full well. She was picking apart the man she had chosen to marry, no doubt to try to in some way justify her own infidelity. The truth was that while Donald was an academic and yes, he spent a lot more time with his class work and administrative duties than she would have liked, he was a decent and honorable man.
Then why was she doing this? Had she become so afraid that life was passing her by that she was willing to jeopardize her marriage to reassure herself of her femininity and sensuousness? Was this one last fling at experiencing a youthful zest of life which perhaps had been denied her (or which she had denied herself)? Whatever the reason, she had battled herself for the last several weeks. Her trysts with Kyle had become what she lived for and she had been able to think of little else. She was now barely able to make it through the door of his apartment before her clothes were being madly discarded.
Once when Donald had made one of his infrequent overtures to sex, she had begged off, not sure whether she could stand to have Donald compare so miserably with Kyle in the bedroom. What was she doing, she asked herself? How could things ever improve at home when she was so preoccupied with her youthful lover?
So here she was, standing outside Kyle's apartment for the last ten minutes telling herself what she must do and trying to will herself to have the courage not only to end the affair, but live with the decision thereafter.
Her hand reached for the buzzer but before she could steel herself to push it, the door opened and she stood face to face with the man who had become the center of her world.
"Oh, hi Laura. I was about to go out for some cokes and chips."

She reviled herself, knowing what others would think of her, yet was helpless to resist. She knew what Cherise had in mind when she told her she would be coming to a party. "Cherise! How wonderful to see you," said a slightly older woman as she approached them. "This is our hostess, Elena," said Cherise. "And this is Vivian."
Vivian's eyes flicked up to the woman's for just an instant then fell again.

"Why don't you try her and find out," chuckled Cherise unsnapping Vivian's leash.

Vivian looked to Cherise who signaled for her to go with the woman. They climbed the staircase and walked half way down a long hall before entering a bedroom.

Vivian noticed that the woman's facial makeup had been quite successful in hiding her age for when the dress and undergarment s were discarded it was evident Elena was much older than Vivian had at first thought.
