Coral and I spent the first part of the next day in bed, I missed two of my scheduled tours, Coral told me at some point she had talked to Janus and explained that I would go to them later. Coral cooked for me and I tried some of the local flavor, all in all it was very good, we went to a local part near her place were I watched children playing with her, I saw a mother with five children all of the same age.

"Are all those kids hers?" I asked.

Coral blushed a bit, it was hard to read her expression with her eyes.

"Yes part of the Dna enhancement triggers multiple births, with the healing part it takes the sting out of it." She said looking at the kids.

"Oh" I said.

"Yes, you understand we started with a limited gene pool so it was important to maximize it." She said watching the kids.

I nodded that kind of made sense.

"In the earlier years it was important to spread the diversity around." She said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"We had breeding programs, artificial insemination and so one, mixed families, I am actually not my fathers genetic child, but I am my mothers." She said.

"That wasn't odd?" I asked.

She shook her head.

"Not really, not when its still a common practice, part of the reason my parents are disappointed in me is that I haven't chosen to be artificially inseminated, most people my age have already had children." She said.

I shook my head.

"Hey if you don't want kids who are they to force you?" I said.

She laughed and nodded.

"I have talked to Janus about it, perhaps in a few years." She said.

"So you really talk to Janus about everything?" I said.

She shook her head.

"Not everything, just important things." She said.

I had a pit in my stomach as I watched her watching the children.

"Coral, I know you have no reason to trust me, but I need to ask you to do something." I said.

She looked at me.

"Whats that Anthony?" She asked.

"When I leave, I need you to tell Janus something, but not until than, can you do that?" I said.

I told her what to tell her, she frowned.

"what does that mean?" She asked.

"Its something I think she will understand, when you tell her say it is what the colonial fleet believes causes peace" I said.

She looked at me strangely.

"Just promise me you will tell her that when I leave." I said.

She nodded slowly.

"okay, I will." She said.

We watched the children play in the park for several hours, we parted ways just before sun down, she had a night shift at the hospital, and I had a tour in the mourning, she smiled at me.

"Anthony if I don't see you again, I enjoyed the time we had together." She said.

I nodded, I caressed her face.

"I will request if its possible to be stationed as the liaison here, I hope everything will be okay between our peoples." I said.

She nodded kissing me on the lips.

"I know the Governor will do everything to pursue peace." She said.

I just nodded watching her walk toward a nearby taxi, at least thats what I had taken to calling them, she must of called it awhile back, once it left I walked toward where I was to meet my shuttle, tonight I would be going to view the ship yards.

Over the next several days I got several detailed tours of several military bases, all of which impressed me, their capability to wage war far outstripped the colonies, I only hoped the Admiralty would listen to my recommendation, on the last day I found myself in the Governors office again, Jan was there as well as one of Janus Armored insect human Golems.

"Well Commander, I hope you will extend my offer of peace with the Colonies, we do not wish to interfere with them, but we do ask that they consider using our worm hole technology over there own, you have to tell them how imperative that is." She said.

I nodded, after the first half of the week I had no doubt of their intentions to let me go back to the Colonies, I did not know how wise that was of them.

"Yes Governor I will explain your peaceful intentions." I said.

Janus nodded.

"We can not let you take your A.I. with you, we have discussed it and we will be giving you a modified navigation computer, it will use the insect technology to relay the appropriate data to you, once you arrive at your location the computer will destroy itself." Janus said.

"You have to understand my Government will not like that." I said.

Jan shook her head.

"I am sorry Commander, you will have to explain to them that we could not let it return to be treated like it was, He willing purged all classified information from himself, he would be of little use to you anyway." Jan said.

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 18 Intrepid 3755 CE

It was over in all of seven seconds, but for Paul it wasn't until the final fraction of the seventh second that he was conscious that anything had happened at all. And what he was aware of was more disorientating than calamitous. It had started with a sudden jolt that shuddered through the room and in particular the bed on which he'd been dozing. He'd been awake for over half an hour but it was his habit to drift in and out of the last few moments of sleep before eventually sliding his...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 18 Intrepid 3756 CE

Anger. Frustration. Humiliation. These were just a few of the emotions Nadezhda was feeling as she reviewed her helpless situation. Her command of the space ship Intrepid had been stolen from her by an alien. She was confined to a villa on the outermost level. She was unable to communicate with anyone other than Beatrice: the android who was both her captor and lover. And every day when she accessed the Intrepid's information systems, she was humiliated to see an android masquerading as...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 15 Intrepid 3756 CE

It was now over a month since the Intrepid plunged into the Anomaly and Paul was no more relaxed about it than he was before despite Beatrice's constant reassurances. What troubled him most wasn't just what was going to happen to him now that he was inside the Anomaly but whether he'd ever return to the universe he came from. "I look at the bulletin boards every day and read each and every the scientific report," Paul told Beatrice who was sitting beside him, "and I've still seen...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 21 Intrepid 3755 CE

It had been a long time since Captain Kerensky last had to squeeze into a space suit. It wasn't really what a captain of a space ship, especially one as large as the Intrepid, was ever expected to do. Why would a captain ever need to go anywhere that wasn't climate-controlled? The last time Nadezhda had put on a space suit was many decades earlier when she held a very junior rank on a much smaller space ship. On that occasion, she was assigned to go outside the space ship to examine the...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 10 Intrepid 3755 CE

The several thousand passengers and crew of a colossal space ship that was travelling through the most distant reaches of space all shared the misconception that the Interplanetary Space Ship Intrepid was on a mission directed from the Moon and that Nadezhda Kerensky was the captain. However, only one human on the space ship knew the truth. And that person was, of course, Captain Kerensky. But what use was this knowledge when the captain couldn't share it with anyone? Hers was a very...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 23 Intrepid 3755 CE

Beatrice wandered contemplatively across the freshly grown lawns on the outermost level of the Intrepid. The space ship's restoration systems had at last made the level habitable although not everything had quite returned to the condition it had been before. New trees had been planted but were modest in comparison to those uprooted by the explosion. New villas had been constructed to replace those that had been destroyed. Animals had been relocated to replace those that had perished. The...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 22 Intrepid 3756 CE

Paul held Beatrice to his chest. Well, not all of her of course: just the head and shoulders. The rest of her was scattered in fragments across the living room, now so evidently the dismembered remains of an android rather than a human. It wasn't blood but a strangely viscous black liquid that seeped out of her mouth, from the stumps of her arms and from a torso that was sliced apart just below her bosom, or at least the single breast that remained intact. It was obvious now. Colonel Vashti...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 15 Intrepid 3755 CE

Paul had never shown much interest in the other passengers and crew of the Intrepid in all the months since he first boarded the space ship. He didn't feel comfortable in the company of soldiers, he didn't need to see the crew very often, and there were no other computer archaeologists amongst the scientists. He was more than happy in his own company and, of course, that of Beatrice. What more did he ever need? Not a lot, Paul mostly believed, but lately Beatrice had been spending rather...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 7 Intrepid 3756 CE

When Colonel Vashti strolled into the living room where Beatrice was sitting, it was no surprise to her at all to see the android staring ahead of her with an expression of intense concentration. Beatrice turned her head round to face the colonel. "Would you mind telling me what has just happened?" she asked. Colonel Vashti smiled. "You don't know, do you?" "One moment there was nothing out of the usual. The next moment there were strong indications of the presence of a Sirius space...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 17 Intrepid 3756 CE

The Intrepid's computer system had been tampered with. Sheila Nkomo knew this for sure. She could use most of the system, but she had no access at all to any part of it that could tell her what was happening on the space ship. Ever since Captain Kerensky and the military officers had arrested and detained her in the villa, she had been as much blind as she was naked. She had no access to the Intrepid's information systems. She couldn't monitor the bridge. She had no means of communicating...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 21 Intrepid 3756 CE

Vashti stumbled through the open lawns of the penultimate level where Beatrice had so recently been imprisoned. She reasoned that the android perhaps had an idea of what was happening. How was it possible for a nanobot community to be compromised in such a strange and unprecedented manner? There was nothing in Vashti's vast repository of data and experience that could explain it. It was definitely humbling for a being who naturally presumed that she was superior over both biological and...

I followed them into the empty bedroom, stood with Oliver behind me blocking the door while the other man went for a bedside lamp. He flicked it on, illuminating the room a little more warmly than I might have feared. The activities in this house were such that you might expect only the dingiest kind of light, the barest of rooms. But then, it’s not your middle-class types who throw Wednesday night sex parties with well over a dozen invites, is it? I was still glad this room wasn’t palatial,...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 13 Intrepid 3755 CE

Heads turned as Beatrice strode along corridors in the space ship Intrepid that were normally reserved for military personnel. It was unusual enough for a passenger to be seen in this part of the ship although there was no security restriction as such, but Beatrice in motion was an unusually compelling sight even in a Solar System where everyone's body was artificially beautified as a matter of routine. There was a very literal sense that she was attractive: her affect on the libido was...

The Anomaly Volume Three Into the UnknowableChapter 19 Intrepid 3756 CE

As if things weren't already weird enough for Paul, they were about to get a whole lot worse. He was already fairly sure that it hadn't been such a great idea that the Intrepid should enter the Anomaly, however much Beatrice argued that it must be worthwhile if Mission Control had authorised it and Captain Kerensky had let it happen. All those senior officers, especially the Chief Science Officer, couldn't all be mistaken, could they? As Paul rarely spoke to anyone other than Beatrice he...

2502 The C.S.S. Icarus. I activated the pilots chairs impact field, it generated an inertial dampening field around the chair keeping me in place as well as protecting me during space travel. I powered up the ships...

Going to WarChapter 4 Taking A City

The 400 Year WarChapter 8 The French and Indian Wars

1760 The Fall of Montreal The heated battles of the French and Indian Wars were primarily fought in the deep forests and isolated outposts of the exposed English settlers. However, the British eventually brought the fight directly into the heart of the French Colonial Homeland in Canada. The initial assaults on Quebec were fought off but it eventually fell to the English forces in 1759 with much loss of life and property. The key to this success was the prior taking of Fort Niagara by the...

“As I see it today, Hitler and Goebbels were in fact molded by the mob itself, guided by its yearnings and its daydreams. Of course, Goebbels and Hitler knew how to penetrate through to the instincts of their audiences; but in the deeper sense they derived their whole existence from these audiences. Certainly the masses roared to the beat set by Hitler’s and Goebbels’ baton; yet they were not the true conductors. The mob determined the theme. To compensate for misery, insecurity,...

The Destroyers Book 3 Civil WarChapter 9 Battle for SOL Part one

Federation Fleet Ken stood on the flag bridge of the USS Washington and watched the gate open for his ship. Looking at his wife Jessica he said, "Okay, let's find out what is going on." "Yes, Sir. We are dropping out in three ... two ... one ... Now!" The Washington dropped out of fold. The two assault cruisers, Grizzly and Orca, and the seven destroyers were flanking her. The destroyers spread out in a half circle to protect the three ships. Sensors came online and flashed their...

The Eighth Warden Book 3Chapter 16

“Now, tell me what the hell is going on,” Marco said. “What is Tir a Tir? We’re supposed to be looking for Tir Yadar!” He’d been crankier than usual ever since getting stabbed. “We are,” Ellerie replied. She’d refused to speak openly while they were still out on the streets, so Josip had found an inn that had enough rooms for everyone, plus a private dining room for the group to get together. “We have a good idea of the route to Tir Yadar, but we didn’t know where to begin. Now we do. Tir a...

The Anomaly Volume Two the Schemes of the Unknown UnknownChapter 17 Intrepid 3755 CE

The lawn surrounding the villa that Isaac and his five surviving comrades had secured was littered with the bodies of the recently slaughtered. One corpse belonged to Jacob who'd suffered a martyr's death in the struggle to secure the villa for true believers. Two belonged to the accursed heretical Baptists who'd obstinately fought to defend the villa. But to no avail. One of the heretics had died at Isaac's hands. Isaac's had jumped on top of the man, tugged him forcefully by the beard...

Buffy The Slutty SlayerChapter 2 Two Intrepid Investigators

From Fred's information BimboTech Inc was some kind of medical research center. It was located in an industrial district downtown. They hadn't obviously marked it, but there was an odd neon sign at the top. It looked like the silhouette of a woman on her knees. Her sketchy profile sported rather provocative curves. It wasn't really what one might expect from a medical institution. Fred had also managed to find out how two weeks earlier BTI had sent a representative round to her old...

Return to KrellChapter 5 Lena the Intrepid

Lena knelt and placed the weather balloon on the surface of the mud. It was a blocky device about the size of a lunchbox, serial numbers and logos decorating its white casing. She pressed an activation switch on the top and watched it unfold, taking a step back as it whirred to life, its protective shell opening up and expanding into an octagonal dish to reveal the probe within. It was as much a drone as a weather balloon, with four little rotors that were currently folded up in order to keep...

Intrepid Part One

I awoke from my sleep to the sound of my radio that morning and stayed in bed to listen to the music. The sun shown through my window in a brilliant display of flickering blotchiness as the leaves on the huge maple outside attempted to eclipse what they could. Always the procrastinator, I laid in bed not wanting to get up for school. I stared at the posters that were scattered across my wall of women looking wanting and lustful. I didn’t really have to go to the bathroom because I was up only...

Varna The Grojan War Book TwoChapter 2 A Hybrid

Two Intelligence Corp psychology officers strode down the corridor and knocked on the commanding officer's door, one Grojan and one human. "Come in." The base commander, Major James Evans, sounded weary. The doctor sighed, opened the door and stepped into the commander's office. The commander looked up. Yes?" "We have a problem with Captain Fuller, sir." The commander ran his hands through his hair. "Dear God, that's all I need on top of everything else." The human doctor made a...

The Destroyers Book 3 Civil WarChapter 10 Battle for SOL Part two

American Fleet The Abraham Lincoln turned and started firing into the weakened shields of the Washington. Suddenly the shields failed and explosions detonated from the side of the massive ship. Admiral Callaghan grinned as he watched the ship heave as a dozen antimatter rounds slammed into the side of the battleship and half her weapons went down. "Keep hitting them. Blow those bastards away!" Mathew said with glee in his voice. "I am sir, do you want me to pull their teeth so we can...

The Destroyers Book 3 Civil WarChapter 22 Insanity

DMZ, Korean Peninsula: 1-17-05, 05:19 A.M. Sojang (Major-General) Hyun Li raised his binoculars and looked across the DMZ at the American and South Korean forces, as the sun slowly rose over the landscape. Picking up the phone, he gave the order he had been waiting for thirty years, to give. "Fire." Up and down the DMZ, eight thousand artillery pieces and twenty-four hundred multiple missile launchers raised their barrels from hidden weapon emplacements while three thousand aircraft...

The Destroyers Book 3 Civil WarChapter 29 Interfaces

The Federation battleship USS Washington: 1:50 P.M. Jessica handled the ship as though she was born to do it. The ship was shrugging off the enemy fire and her weapons were firing at the Washington D.C. shield trying to take it down. Turning her head she smiled at her husband and wife as the status reports came in from the fleet. "Enemy shield down to 36% power," reported Lieutenant Akiko Fujimoto. "Thanks, Akiko. Keep up the pressure," Tammy said just as Jessica screamed and the ship...
