"She's just on the golf team."
"Does she like you?"
"I don't know," I said too snippily. Fortunately Mom let it slide. "I think her parents want to meet me since I'm her coach."
"You've met the mayor before," Mom said.
Everybody had. We were a small town. After I won the state championship, I was the guest of honor in a town ceremony, but the mayor spoke almost constantly.
"I need to shower," I said and headed to my room.
The only idea I had why Tiffany invited me over for dinner was she was a crazy girl, but I didn't want to say that and I simply wanted to end the conversation. Mom had no idea how disdainful it was to insinuate that I would date a royal princess like Tiffany.
As I showered I got into a darker and darker funk. Tiffany's Dad was undoubtedly the reason I was stuck coaching these girls. I didn't hate the girls as much today as I did on Monday, but if I could get out of this gig I would do it in an instant. I looked over at the intersection. The light had already cycled back to green.

"We are," she said, pulling into the drive-thru line.
She ordered a Big Mac combo for me and a chicken sandwich type thing for her and that was it. The fries smelled good in the car. They made me hungry. We pulled into her home's four car garage five minutes later.
We entered the house and I followed Tiffany into the dining area. There was a big table but it was empty. She pulled out a chair and sat so I pulled out the chair next to her.
"I am so starved," she said reaching into the McDonalds bag.
The house was very quiet. It seemed liked no one else was home.
"I thought we were eating with your parents," I said before putting a fry in my mouth.
"They won't be back until Sunday. They're at some conference or something like that."
"Oh." I knew if Tiffany told my Mom that it would be just she and me alone then I wouldn't be here right now.
"You haven't taught us how to putt yet," she said.
"You have to learn how to hit the ball off a tee before you learn to hit the ball in the hole."
