The other three girls didn't look very confident. The swagger they might have shared with Tiffany was gone after Tiffany's bad swing.
"Erin," I called out.
Erin grabbed a tee, a ball, and her driver. She teed up and I reached around her.
"Remember how we practiced," I said moving her arms in the motion. "Now go."

I wished I could say the same about the other two girls. Sara also reverted back into bad form while Laura hit her ball in the same direction as Tiffany's but deeper into the tall grass.
It was a sad day. None of the girls came close to an overall par of the first three holes. None of them got par on any hole though Erin came closest with a double-bogey on the first hole. It was a sad, sad day. I was not having sex today. So sad.
"You're not really going to hold us to this 'no sex' thing?" asked Tiffany two days later.
"I am," I said straightforwardly.

Erin and Sara were better at hitting the ball straighter and getting the ball on the green, but they were frequently four or five putting into the hole on what should only take one or two shots. Tiffany could putt once she made it to the green, but making it to the green was her challenge. Laura was the total package. She was totally awful.
By Friday, Erin came within two strokes of par for those three holes and Sara came within five. Tiffany and Laura made the greatest progress but they had the most to improve.

Eric seemed to think before he said, "Why bother? She'll quit in a few weeks."
I had a different assessment of Erin. She was the only one of the four girls who I thought fully liked golf for golf's sake.
"Andy. Telephone," Mom said at home early that afternoon.
I took the phone.
"Hello?"
"It's Erin."

"You should do some weight training," I suggested as we exited the 18th green.

She snorted in response. "Eric is such a jerk. He won't help me. Part of the reason I called you is to get away from him. He was in such a shitty mood when he came home."
I quickly evaluated my earlier conversation with Eric in light of what I heard from Erin.
"I think he's threatened by you," I said.
"Threatened? What for?"
"Maybe he feels like you are encroaching on his territory."
"So are you saying I should give up golf so I can make peace with Eric?"
"I'm not saying anything. I'm just guessing why Eric might be acting the way he is. There's no reason for you to give up golf. If he can't handle you playing golf then that's his problem."
"Which he makes my problem. What do I do about it?"
I shrugged. I had a diagnosis but no solution.
"What if it was you?" Erin asked.
"What do you mean?"
"What if you were my brother and I wanted you to teach me and help me get better at golf? What would you want?"
