Tony suppressed a snort. All three of them, even Megan, got up at seven on school days for years and years. He didn't need reminders, but he guessed the parents felt they needed to say something to prove they were parenting.

Tony, fuming, went to Megan's room.

The rest of the afternoon went predictably. Brenda and Cathy spent hours in the living room, going from serious planning to giggling and gossiping. Megan went through a few times to go to the kitchen, glaring at Cathy the whole time.
Tony finally stopped her. "Megan, you are not going to change Cathy's mind that way. And glaring at her, stomping your feet, and so on, just makes you look like a kid."
Now Megan glared at Tony. "Ignore her, or smile sweetly at her. We will not resolve it this afternoon; in the meantime, no point in giving her any satisfaction."
"But what are we going to do? Is she going to be inviting her friends every day?"
"I doubt she can have her friends sit here all afternoon, every day. But I have a plan. Would you go along with what I say when the parents come? I am not actually going to mean everything."
Tony was surprised how pleasant it was to sit next to Megan while they both worked on their homework. He actually enjoyed her company before, but now it was so much stronger.
