March, 1985, Chicago, Illinois

After what could almost be called a fantasy weekend in Ohio, reality hit me in the face almost as soon as I arrived home. I had bills to pay, homework to finish, and laundry to do. I also needed to do some shopping, as well as some other things around the house. But the first order of business was to call Larry Higgins.

“What happened?” I asked, after we greeted each other.

“I don’t know. Mom’s trying to find out, but nobody’s talking. I thought my grades and MCAT were easily good enough for UC, and I thought the interviews went well. Mom had talked to the doctors on the selection committee and thought it was a lock.”

“That sucks. What are you going to do?”

“Work for my grandfather for the summer while I think about it.”

“Is there anything I can do?” I asked.

“Not unless you can conjure up an acceptance letter from a medical school!”

“I wish that I could. Keep me posted. I’ll see you at Kathy’s wedding on June 15th if not before.”

We said ‘goodbye’ and after I hung up, I opened my mail. There were two pieces of mail from lawyers - one was an ending and the other a beginning.

The ending was a copy of the dismissal order for Callie’s lawsuit against Bert, Charlie, and me. There was also a copy of the ‘Notice of Appeal’ that Attorney Littleton had filed, with a note from Robert Klein that said the appeals grounds appeared frivolous and most likely the appeals court would refuse to hear the case.

The beginning was a copy of the incorporation paperwork that had been filed in Delaware, along with a number of other documents. The note from Samuel Jacobsen said that he had sent a resolution to Joyce to sign so that Elyse and I could open the bank accounts. We’d just need the confirmed incorporation papers which were expected by the end of the week. I picked up the phone and called Joyce.

“I got the package of papers on Friday, signed them, and sent them to you,” she said after we’d greeted each other.

“Cool. How’s your grandfather doing?” I asked.

“Good. He’s stubborn, as I’m sure that you can imagine, but my grandmother is even more stubborn. I think you know how we Italian women are!”

“Oh, I most certainly do!” I laughed.

We chatted for a few minutes, and after I hung up, I wrote out the checks for the bills and put them in the pile of outgoing mail that was in the basket on the kitchen counter. I stopped to make a sandwich and grabbed a Dr Pepper from the fridge and went back to my desk. I fired up my computer and put in the disk so that I could print out a paper that was due in my history class on Monday, and when that was finished, I found Kara and we went up to bed.

“You seem a bit harried,” she said as we climbed into bed.

“Just so much going on,” I said. “This was my last trip to Ohio until my sister’s graduation. And that one is going to be crazy! I don’t know if I told you, but it’s the same day as IIT’s commencement. My dad and sister will fly up, we’ll go to my commencement, then we’ll go straight to Meigs and fly to Lunken near downtown Cincinnati. Then the next day, Stephanie and I will drive back to Chicago, though we’ll stop to see Don Joseph on the way.”

“That is crazy. When is Bethany coming?”

“Around April 12th,” I said. “What are we doing for your birthday next week?”

“Making love!” she giggled. “What else would I ask for?”

“Well yes, but what I meant was, did you want to go to dinner? I’d love to take you to Chez Paul.”

“But it’s so expensive!”

“How many times do you turn 21?” I grinned.

“The same number of times I turn any other age!”

“Cute. I’ll make reservations for us tomorrow.”

“Could we ride one of those horse-drawn carriages they have downtown?”

“Sure!” I said, turning to kiss her.

That kiss led to many, many more and eventually to wonderful orgasms that left us exhausted and ready for sleep.

Mercifully the entire week was routine, though Thursday evening with Penny certainly was exciting. On Friday, Wen asked if I would be around on Saturday, and I told her that I wouldn’t, but that if she wanted to work on homework, she could come home with me then, or come on Sunday. She decided that Sunday would be best.

On Saturday, I had to skip karate, and my programming time with Penny, because I needed to leave home no later than 9:00am to get to Doctor Barton’s house at 12:30pm. I dressed and wondered if I should pack an overnight bag. I didn’t think I’d need one, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to be prepared. I’d put it in the hatch of my Daytona and if I didn’t need it, nobody would be the wiser.

“Where are you headed today?” Sofia asked.

“Indianapolis. A reception at Doctor Barton’s house. He’s the trauma surgeon that saved Bethany’s life. He asked me to come. I think he’s still trying to talk me into taking the MCAT!”

Sofia laughed, “Yeah, right. You? A doctor? That’s not happening!”

“Excuse me? I’d make a great doctor!” I protested.

“A gynecologist, maybe!” she giggled.

“We could have a joint practice, then!”

“When will you be home?”

“I’m actually not sure. The reception starts at 1:00pm but I never asked how late it went.”

“You packed a bag.”

“Just out of an abundance of caution. If it gets too late, or I’ve been drinking, I’ll crash at Doctor Barton’s or a hotel or something.”

She looked skeptical but didn’t say anything. I kissed her and headed for my car. I hadn’t said much of anything about Jessica to anyone except for Bethany, and wasn’t sure why I was keeping it from them. Most likely, it was because I was confused about the whole situation and didn’t want to try to have to explain. I hadn’t even said anything to my sister about it simply because it was too difficult to explain at this point.

March, 1985, Indianapolis, Indiana

As I headed south on I-65, I replayed the conversations I’d had with Jessica on our three dates. What surprised me the most was that a new girl, one who saw me as a prospective husband, hadn’t run screaming when she discovered my lifestyle. That in and of itself intrigued me. It was one thing for a new girl who just wanted to have some fun to accept the situation, it was an entirely different thing to respond the way Jessica had.

She’d talked about negotiations and terms, and being open to an unconventional relationship, but unconventional didn’t even begin to describe the craziness that I was contemplating. Even Penny and Sofia, who knew about the situation in advance, had issues with it, not to mention Karin’s outright rejection of the idea; though she had made an allowance for having kids with Elyse and Jennifer BEFORE we got married.

In my mind, I couldn’t see Jessica accepting anything even remotely resembling what I was fairly sure was going to happen in the future. The only thing I could do would be to follow Anala’s guidance and make sure that I was completely truthful and honest with Jessica. There was just one fly in the ointment - Stephanie.

Bethany could, most likely, deal with a once-a-year thing if that’s what was going to happen. I doubted that Jessica could, and there was no way I was going to broach that subject with her in this lifetime in this universe. That said, Stephanie had left things more or less in my court, so to speak, so I could, if need be, reset them to what they’d been before the previous Sunday.

I also had no idea what was going to happen between me and Jennifer, and until that was sorted out, it was hard to know what the future looked like. I’d bend over backwards to accommodate Jennifer’s needs, and that might well preclude any kind of relationship with Jessica. It wasn’t that I was expecting that Jennifer had magically turned heterosexual so that we’d be able to marry, but I wanted her to be a part of my life for the rest of my life. The same as was true for Bethany. Everything else had to take a back seat. And that included any kind of sexual relationship with my little sister.

I stopped in a Rest Area to use the restroom and double-checked my atlas to confirm the directions to Doctor Barton’s house in my mind. I was making good time and would be there about twenty minutes earlier than planned. I took a short walk around the Rest Area to stretch my legs and get some fresh air, then got back in the car to complete the drive. I pulled into Doctor Barton’s long, sweeping driveway about 12:20pm. I parked along the side of the house, and then got out of the car and walked to the front door. I rang the bell and waited.

“Steve! Welcome,” Doctor Barton said. “Come on in.”

I followed him inside. His house was similar to mine, though decorated in Early American as opposed to my more minimalist Scandinavian modern style. To me, it smacked of a stuffy, old-money family, though Doctor Barton didn’t act like I would have expected someone of that background to act. He ushered me into his study and offered me a drink. Out of deference, I asked for a Coke.

He laughed, “You can have a drink. I won’t be offended. Most of the medical students drink.”

“No sir. If you aren’t drinking, I’ll stick to soft drinks.”

He nodded and came back with a Coke for me and a 7-Up for him.

“No caffeine, either?” I asked.

“Limited. I had a cup of coffee this morning. But you can imagine even the slightest shake can cause trouble in surgery.”

“And your students follow the same guidelines?”

“The smart ones. Of course, alcohol isn’t a guideline. You’ll lose your license if you come to work after you’ve been drinking. And it’s pretty much zero tolerance. Do you have any friends who are pilots?”

“One, but she’s only seventeen, so that’s not really an issue for her. I drink quite a bit of coffee and tea, but there’s very little damage that the odd shake of my hand can do when I’m typing on a computer keyboard.”

“True. Different professions require different disciplines. You and I probably aren’t cut out to be carpenters or electricians or bricklayers, and those have their own set of skills.”

“Very true. I do like to cook, I play an average game of chess, and I’m just about to earn my brown belt in karate.”

“Well, that will keep you fit. Your job is going to involve a lot of sitting on your butt. Remember, keep a proper diet and exercise. No need to go nuts, just watch your weight and if it starts to go up, make small adjustments. Fad diets are silly. Watch your sugar intake as you get older, though.”

“Thanks for the advice!”

“I hear that you’ve invited Jessica out on three dates.”

I laughed. Hard. “You mean she’s instructed me to take her to dinner three times, and to a movie the third time!”

He nodded, “That sounds more like her. I’m still not sure if I should be pissed off or depressed.”

“Over what?”

“It appears that all those girls, with the obvious exception of your gorgeous little sister, are current or past girlfriends, and you have several girlfriends at the moment.”

I nodded, “Oh that. Well, yeah, I can understand.”

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but how does a computer nerd end up with all those model-quality girls?”

“By being nice to them and never, ever taking them for granted. By not looking at them as pieces of meat or conquests. By caring for them and loving them, no matter what happens.”

“Which explains why Jessica is interested in you.”

“She’s talked to you about me?”

“I’m her mentor. She talks to me about pretty much everything and anything.”

“Sounds like Bethany and me. She’s my best friend, and has been for years. You saved her life, which means I owe you a lifelong debt.”

“She saved herself, Steve. Never, ever forget that. She’s a remarkable young woman.”

“That is absolutely true. I’m curious; did you invite me here to discuss my love life?” I asked with a smile.

Doctor Barton laughed, “No, of course not. Though I am most curious about what you’re thinking about with Jessica.”

I chuckled, “She has me off-balance at pretty much every turn. One minute I think that we’re friends, the next minute I’m thinking that she’s printing wedding invitations.”

“She’s a hard driver and aggressively goes after what she wants.”

“I’ve noticed!”

“Just keep your wits about you and be honest with her. She has a good nose for bullshit.”

“Thanks for the advice!”

“Come meet my wife. My students will be here in a few minutes and it’ll get a bit crazy.”

I followed him to the kitchen and saw a stunning redhead with piercing green eyes. She was what I thought Kathy might look like when she was forty.

“Steve, this is my wife, Belinda. Belinda, this is Steve Adams, the young man I was telling you about.”

“Nice to meet you, Steve. It’s not often that Al is impressed, even by medical students.”

“Nice to meet you, Doctor Barton,” I said, recalling that she was an astrophysicist that worked for NASA.

“Oh, please call me Belinda. And this is our daughter, Fawn.”

A young girl, about thirteen, walked into the kitchen. She was the spitting image of her mom and I knew immediately that the boys were going to be goners when this one was a few years older.

“Hi Fawn, I’m Steve. Nice to meet you.”

“Hi!” she giggled. “Dad, some cars just pulled into the driveway.”

“That will be my students,” Doctor Barton said. “Thanks, honey. Run along.”

She skipped out of the room and it sounded like she went up some stairs. Doctor Barton waved me along and I walked with him to the front door. He opened it just as five young men were coming up the walk. Doctor Barton greeted them by name and introduced me. I saw another car pulling into the driveway, and Doctor Barton waited by the door. Two girls, one of them Jessica, and two guys got out of the car. I recognized all but one guy and one girl as students who had been in the operating theater. Jerome, the guy who had brought me up to the operating theater was with Jessica.

“Hi Steve!” Jessica said.

“Hi Jessica. Hi Jerome,” I answered.

“Hi,” Jerome said.

Doctor Barton introduced the other two students, Brad and Diana. Jessica took my hand and we all followed Doctor Barton to a large room that had tables of snacks and finger food, along with several bottles of liquor and soft drinks. I got a Coke from the table and Jessica got a grape soda. A few more students arrived while we were getting our drinks. We stood with several other students making small talk for a moment, then Doctor Barton asked for our attention.

“It’s an open house today,” he said. “Make yourself comfortable. Mingle. Talk. Several more students should arrive soon. Have a good time and let me know if you need anything.”

“How was your drive down?” Jessica asked, pulling me aside.

“Just fine. How was your week?”

“Busy. Ridiculous amounts of homework, but that’s par for the course. The block we’re working on now is endocrine and reproductive systems.”

“And you invited me for some hands on experimentation?” I teased.

“And if I said yes to that?”

“You won’t. It’s not your style.”

“And I doubt that you have any problems with those organs!”

“Evidence would suggest that’s accurate. But the status of yours is an unknown. Perhaps a thorough exam is in order!”

“Internal probes?” she asked with a smirk. “Deep internal probes?”

“Sounds good!” I chuckled.

“I have reasonable proof every 28 days that it’s working as designed.”

“Yeah, that’s pretty convincing evidence! Are we going to spar all afternoon?”

She smiled, “Probably. Well, when we’re not talking to Doctor Barton or some of the other students.”

“Do you and Diana get along?” I asked.

“Not really. I just gave them a ride. She seems to think sleeping with half the class is a good life plan.”

“You know, girls can enjoy sex just as much as guys, and it’s only social stigma that says otherwise.”

“Well, look who’s all modern and liberated!”

“Is that a problem?” I asked.

“Oh, no, not at all,” Jessica said. “More points for you, because I’m sure that you won’t be upset if I make more money than you do eventually.”

“Good luck with that!” I chuckled. “My friends are pretty sure I’ll be a millionaire by the time I’m thirty.”

“Well, that would certainly help pay back the loans for medical school for sure!”

“I thought surgeons made a fortune,” I said.

“They do, if it’s plastic surgery or some specialty that’s in very high demand. Trauma surgeons make very good money, but not a fortune. A CEO at a successful big company makes more. So in all seriousness, if you’re as successful as you expect to be, there’s a decent chance that you’ll make more than I do. And besides, I won’t make a lot of money before I’m 30.”

“Is that a problem for your delicate ego?” I grinned.

“Money is just a means to an end. Once you have enough to live comfortably, take nice vacations, and pay for your kids’ college so that they don’t have to borrow money the way I did, you don’t really need more. Not that I’ll turn it down, mind you!”

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 14 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

Thewedding Reception

After years of reading slut wife stories in various magazines and on Internet sites I finally have one of my own to tell. It is not about my wife, at least not this time, and it happened at a very unlikely place - my daughter's wedding. The slut? None other that the mother of the groom. Rick and Anna had been a couple for several years before Rick popped the question and Anna said yes. Jean (my wife) and I had met and had socialized with Rick's parents for over two years. There was nothing...

May 26, 1991, Iron Mountain, Michigan “Shall we see if we can find a farm?” I asked at breakfast on Sunday morning. “That sounds like a great idea,” Jessica said. “There’s a visitor’s bureau in town,” Kara said. “I saw it when we were here the first time.” “I’m sorry I ruined that vacation,” Jessica said. “Ruined?” I protested. “Are you kidding? Getting you back was way more important than a few days of vacation!” “I agree,” Kara added. “Jess, you know exactly how bad off Steve was...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 14 Katherine Victoria Will

January, 1985, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back in Hyde Park about ten minutes before the end of the Super Bowl. It didn’t look like it had been much of a contest, given that the score was 38-16, with San Francisco trouncing Miami. I grabbed a Coke and some chips and sat down on the couch next to Julia and Dave. In the room, besides my housemates, were Jamie, Kenneth, Kurt, Kathy, Jorge, George, Charlie, Bert, and Wen. “Julia, I got approval from both guys in Cincinnati,” I said. She...

Loosening Up Book 9 Fantasies Among the WeedsChapter 2 Phi Theta Rho Party Again

Late on Saturday afternoon Dave shifted into his job as one of the bartenders for the Circle. Just as he was ready for a first customer, Emma came racing up to the bar. She was alone and only wearing a monokini, unlike a few hours earlier when her parents and younger sister had visited and she was dressed conservatively. She extended her body over the bar and kissed Dave. “Thank you for being so nice to my parents and sister.” “Of course. They’re nice people. I take it they don’t know a...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 20 It Happened One Night

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. Our flight back on Thursday leaves LA at 11:00am, so we’ll be home by 8:00pm, I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 79 The Last Risk Of Freeze

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

The Three Signs Book 2 LoriChapter 28 Live at the Lifesaver

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

Sins from my Stepmother Complete Book 1

I My name is Teddy Carlson. I’m twenty-two years old and I fucked my stepmother. Not just once in some momentary lapse of judgement. But again and again…and again. Before you judge me, there’s a few things you need to understand. First, Dad and I never exactly got on like a house on fire. He was the CIO of a large hedge fund which meant that he wasn’t around much. He travelled to Europe regularly and commuted during the week to Manhattan for meetings. When he was home, he was either...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 16 A Southern Belle a Surprise Proposal two Cheerleaders an Old Flame and a Girl Back Home Part I

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I went to my room, closed the door and dialed my old number in Milford and Stephanie answered. “Hi, Stephanie!” “Hey, Big Bro! How’s Chicago?” “Pretty good. A lot of stuff is happening. But I have a favor to ask. Well, really, it’s a favor from Ed. I’m coming home this weekend and I was wondering if I could borrow the keys to the apartment.” “You and Kara? On Saturday? I’m sure the answer is yes. Where are you staying?” “I was going to call Mrs. Spencer...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

September 4, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “These are really interesting pieces,” I said to Siobhán. Kimmy, Elyse, and I were reviewing the two completed pieces that she’d done as examples of what the series would look like. “You don’t like them?” Siobhán asked pensively. “No, I do! Why would you think I didn’t?” “Usually when someone says ‘interesting’ about abstract art it means they don’t like it.” “Sorry, in this case I meant it. Maybe ‘intriguing’ would have been a better word.” She...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. August 15, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Whoa!” Cynthia declared, as she turned the pages in The New Joy of Sex. “All these positions! The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

Yang Reception

Copyright © 1995 or Practice Makes Perfect I owe my life to Guru Tsu. I discovered his teachings when I was twelve. Before my parents' divorce, I practically lived in the library. When I read the first book, it was as if I could see for the first time. His words gave me comfort when I needed it the most. It wasn't long before I sought out other followers of Guru Tsu's Way. We'd meet once or twice a week to meditate, study his writings and do enlightenment exercises. I was...

February 16, 1997, Chicago, Illinois Our conversation during the Rap Session was about how to find ‘truth’ and both Elizabeth and I made a strong case for skepticism as the best approach to life. “But if you don’t believe anything is true, how can you decide what to do?” Brenna asked after a lengthy discussion about how to know what was true. “Remember what we said about listening carefully?” Elizabeth asked. “We operate as if the things we’ve come to believe actually are true, but always...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

The wedding planner gets seduced at the reception

The wedding reception was half over and Wendy, the wedding planner, had just finished her meal. As she normally does, she wove her way through the dance floor and the many dancing couples to prop herself against the far wall away from the wedding revelers. For the next half hour perhaps she would have time to take a breath and relax until the next part of the event unfolded. From across the room, the tuxedoed man watched as the attractive blond made her way through the dancers. This, the third...

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. I nodded, “It started when I was just a bit younger than Natalie. My mom was a total control...
