Mike would check the records of the general aviation services at Nome's two airports for the days before and after the abductions. Then he would forward that information to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Seward Trooper Posts so they could compare what they had on the same time periods as the kidnappings.

It would turn out there was a black and red Piper Cherokee, an older low-wing model, that had been in on both days and the day before. There was also a Piper Chieftain twin engine, but he had also come in three other weekends. The manager at the general aviation service said that belonged to a missionary group out of Wasilla, north of Anchorage. As far as he knew they were like Jehovah's Witnesses or something.

"They just want to convert heathens it looks like," the manager told him. "There's a group of four or five, and they seem nice enough. I'm happy staying a heathen."

Other planes had come in one weekend but not the next, and some visited sporadically, and nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Mike discussed his theory with Lt. Randall who still felt it was someone in town, but had not ruled out the possibility the kidnapper was mobile.

In mid April when Mary's mother came for the bear hunt, she arranged the money for them to buy a red and white Cessna 180 on tundra wheels. It also came with the wheel-skis for winter use, and could land almost anywhere except on water. With this new tool, they were able to visit the various airports where the abductions took place, and other remote airstrips in between. Over the next two months, no progress was made on the abductions, and it seemed whoever it had been had moved on.

By an agreement with the Aurora View Lodge, the state had a cabin built on the lodge site to use as a sub-station, since it was almost equidistant to Kaltag, Unalakleet, or Shaktoolik. It was also just fifteen minutes by air to where her sister Carol now lived. The sub-station consisted of the front desk and radio room, a small kitchen and dining area, bedroom, bath, a small den, and a utility room where they could lock someone up temporarily.

They had met the Lieutenant there to be shown all of the operating procedures, and Mike asked, "Have they worked out our regular duty station yet?"

"You will be in Galena part-time, sometimes in Nome, and right where you stand the rest of the time." Lt Randall answered. "With your plane, you will be given a fuel allowance when it is used in the line of duty, and you will be expected to help anywhere within two hours air time from you on little notice in the event of an emergency. If you need me, you will know where I am at."

He then advised the two that they would be traveling about as typical civilians, and trying to find the plane, and subsequently its owner. They would be using the Aurora View as a "cover" and base of operations, and work out in a 200-mile radius. Two officers from Fairbanks and two from Anchorage would also be hunting the plane. If anyone were to spot it, they were to call for backup, and wait until all six plainclothes Troopers had arrived in their civilian marked planes so not to arouse suspicion, and moved into position.

At 7 p.m. Mike and Mary started making a circuit of the Airports in Northwest Alaska looking for a black Piper Cherokee with red trim. It was obvious the plane was not going to be based near a Trooper Post, and after over flying two small strips and seeing no planes anywhere, Mike decided to return to Galena for the night, and refuel. The next day he would fly a set heading and course, and work his way back to the lodge.

What if indeed he had been wrong, and the twin-engine plane belonged to a "religious commune" instead of missionaries. They may have scouted "recruits" and the black plane would pick them up when they had one. That plane always seemed to be there on weeks that the black one wasn't. The next day he would check the records of the visits by both.

If that was so, then chances were good that the commune had their own airstrip, and it would not be on any general aviation maps.

Mike eliminated several of the small airstrips nearby as a home for the abductor of the women from around the state. One afternoon as the lodge was closing down for the year, he saw what looked like a dirt strip near an abandoned Air Force Communications station, and had seen people running inside of the large building that was once part of the White Alice System. He thought hard about it then looked around for a place to land within walking distance where they wouldn't hear the plane. He spotted a tundra pond, but would need to borrow one of the small floatplanes from the lodge to land there.

He had heard Rudy Smith talking about a Super Cub being the "next best thing to a helicopter" and thought to ask to borrow it instead. He needed an experienced pilot to land it nearby, but also needed backup. For now he was just going in for a closer look.

Mike asked Rudy to fly him over near the Big Monolith looking concrete "dishes" (that actually looked more like a wrap around drive-in movie screen.)

With a rifle stock mounted telescope that one of the lodge guests had custom made for Rudy, Mike looked all around from his place of concealment, when he noticed a painted structure back in the trees not a hundred yards from him. It had been painted into a picture type setting with trees; bushes and the tundra detailed down to the leaves, branches and tundra grasses. Evidently it was a concrete bunker left from when the Military had occupied the site in the 1950's. The concrete and the door looked to have been hand painted by artists.

Mike heard an electric motor start and watched as the door began to slide open and revealed three aircraft inside. The shock was what they were. First was the black and red Cherokee, then a red and white Super Cub almost hidden by a white and blue Piper Navajo Chieftain; the "Jehovah's Witness" plane. These people were definitely not Jehovah's Witnesses.

About an hour before he had seen the people run inside the previous day, there came a single-file procession out of the "monolith" dressed in gray robes, and carrying garden tools and began to appear to be digging in a certain area. Mike noticed they were all women doing the work, but all had short-cropped hair. Standing nearby were four men with white robes that seemed to oversee the work. From the belt of these men hung cattle prods and all wore hoods. Five men dressed in dark suits and one woman came out from inside the bunker that was used to conceal the airplanes.

They pushed the twin engine Piper out and all climbed aboard to fly somewhere to the north. Then the doors slid closed again with a bang, and once more blended into the hill without the telescope! The plane took off and then banked to the north. Two armed guards came from a door within the "monolith" and behind them, eight more figures dressed in dark brown robes carried something wrapped in white linen that could have been a person, but didn't seem to have a head. "Maybe an animal or something," Mike though.

Behind the linen draped form were two women in gold colored robes followed by a tall man in a dark green gold-trimmed robe. After a few moments that Mike couldn't tell anything, they began a chant of some kind, and lowered the wrapped form into the ground. Then the green robed man was given a round container that resembled a can like one buys the gift popcorn in. The man obviously the leader, opened the container, and then displayed for all to see, the severed head of a woman. The head resembled the photo of the earlier kidnap victim from Seward.

The leader replaced the head into the container, and dropped it into what Mike now knew was a grave. Then he returned with the two gold-robed women, and the bodyguards back into the monolith. It was some sort of cult, but Mike didn't know what kind. He now had to check if people had records of the red and white Super Cub with the numbers he copied off the fuselage. He also had the numbers from the Navajo Chieftain, and would alert the authorities to watch for that one as well.

That was it. Mike had found the hiding place of these kidnappers, and had to report back to Lt Randall. He crawled back down the hill to make his way back to Rudy and the Super Cub. He was obviously in a hurry, and Rudy saw him coming and started the little plane. Mike was barely in his seat when Rudy lifted off and headed back to the Aurora View sub-station.

When they landed, they were in for a shock. There on the Aurora View Lodge airstrip was the blue and white twin-engine Chieftain! Mike got an instant lesson in doing a "wing over" and in less than a minute the Cub was on the ground right in front of the Chieftain. They couldn't let on that they knew the plane was involved. One man stood by the plane as though guarding it.

Rudy said, "There is a rifle between the seats and the left door. We will act like we have been hunting."

Mike went to the State Trooper sub-station to see if Mary was there. She was talking to two of the men from the plane. She was in uniform and Mike was not. Mike entered and said, "I need to report some hunters with a medical emergency fourteen miles southeast of here."

Immediately Mary knew he was not reporting that and that something else was wrong. "You'll have to excuse us," She told the gentlemen in the dark Navy blue suits. "I need to get this man's report. I would be glad to discuss the Lord some other time."

They left to join the man by the plane. Rudy found the other two men and the woman in the main lodge/residence talking to Gary and Gina Owens, and their daughter Danielle. As he walked in the leader of that group said, "I am Elder Lawrence, this is Brother Timothy, and Sister Tamara. We are from the Ministry of the Living God on Earth, and have come to speak with you about the serving of Our Lord."

"I already do serve God on Earth," Grif Replied, "or didn't my wife tell you, I am an Ordained Minister?"

"Anyone can get those, Mister Owens is it?" the Elder said. "They mean nothing unless they come from the one true Lord."

"Well Elder Lawrence," Gary retorted, "Anyone can get the paper. I wasn't aware God had a printing press set up on Earth to determine who was to spread His Word. I believe He used more natural medium, like stone and fire, and burning bushes to communicate."

"You are wrong, Mr. Owens." Elder Lawrence said, "I don't know which so-called god you believe in, but I am here to tell you, 'OUR Lord' walks and lives among us in the flesh."

"MINE," Gary replied, "is the One who gave the tablets to Moses on the Mountain that He burned into stone. I believe the first one said' Thou Shalt have no other gods before me'! Therefore MY God is the one I speak to and who answers my prayers. Therefore I will ask that you and your companions depart our presence forthwith, lest I request that you be arrested for trespassing on private property."

"Your rudeness will not go unpunished, Mr. Owens," Brother Timothy said on the way out the door. "Our Lord will see to it that you regret that!"

"If you want to get into a 'whose God is the toughest' contest," Gary retorted, "My God will mop up the Bering Sea with your 'so-called Lord'! He'll send his lying carcass back to Uranus or wherever you guys come from!"

"I don't think you established much good will, Gary." Gina teased. "Such harsh language for a 'minister'!"

Gary Owens watched them leave and saw his Lab Shadow approach to escort them off, when two of them pulled out small canisters that looked like Mace, and pointed them at the dog. Gary grabbed the shotgun and pointed it at them and said, "You spray, I spray!"

Love in the Last Frontier Part 1

I am a free lance photographer and an artist who has managed to combine my two talents into a one of a kind, new media that represents the artist in me in the form of photographic imaging. I do landscapes mostly, although I have been known to stray into other subjects on occasion, but my landscape work is what brought these people to the table to discuss the possibility of this very large set of works that they want commissioned and now this damn phone will not shut up with its constant...

More than Cowboys at Cheyenne Frontier Days

It was my first time going to Cheyenne Frontier Days. I wanted to write this as soon as I got home because it was and still so vivid in my mind. We were walking along some vendor booths and enjoying all of the nice people and the weather when all of a sudden an older man riding a road bike pulls up close to the walkway and stopped and got off his bike and started walking through the crowd. Now it might not seem like any big deal so far but I was standing wait for my wife to buy something at the...

The Final Frontier By Mary Beth Sanford Synopsis: (Expanded Version of: To Boldly Go): The most dangerous jobs in space could only be done by men, brave men. Some would say the bravest of men. No one knowing what these men have gone through would deny them that praise. Most would shudder thinking about their sacrifice because for those men to do what they do they must first give up being men. Story notes: Hi... The Final Frontier

THE FINAL FRONTIER Seeing What I Could See #9. Fantasy based on a shred of fact! My relationship with my “Auntie A” was now been going on for nearly 9 years. It started as fairly innocent curiosity on my part as a p*****n about mature, full figured women of which “A” was a prime example. I had carried a fondness for her since c***dhood because she had no c***dren and always treated me as her own and she dressed and acted so much more “free-spirited” than Mom and my other aunt. The Final Frontier

The Final Frontier Part 1 I sat on the worn, wooden, park bench staring up into the sky. A gentle breeze brought scents from fresh-cut grass and roses from the field and garden nearby. "It's you, isn't it? You're Sam Shepherd." Shaken from my thoughts, I nodded the affirmative at the little boy whose mother stood protectively nearby. "You're flying up there tomorrow?" The boy pointed towards the sun. "Yes. Maybe one day you'll be an astronaut as well?" "Not me. I'm going...

As morning came Darla awoke to a relatively toasty 52 degrees inside the cabin. Checking the fire, she added a new log to the smoldering coals and more newspaper to get it burning. Through the easterly facing window, she could see that it would be daylight soon, meaning that it was probably around 8:00. The days were getting longer, and that increased the possibility of someone coming to rescue her. She had a headache from the previous day's exposure to the ether, but how long had that kept...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 2 Dumpling

I’d learned from Ying Lee that being the purchasing agent for Camp Métis was a pretty lucrative post. The fort was on the Missouri River, not that far from the mouth of the Judith. Near where Camp Cooke had been before they abandoned it to the rats back in 1870. The Army needed beef and the purchasing agent supplied it. And, he determined the price he would pay the ranchers. Another whore, my pal Masie, told me, “They got over 400 soldiers stationed there. To protect the steamboat traffic,...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 8 Amen

The Territory came through with the prison construction money — $85. It wouldn’t be much of a town jail, two cells big enough to hold four or five miscreants each if Little River had a sudden crime wave. But it made the growing town proud, our new jail. The builder had to knock out part of the back wall of our office and build a 10 by 15 addition. I ended up sort of job foreman and passed on Hank Mosby’s ‘sale’ lumber. It wasn’t part of the Territory contract, but Cayuse and I ended up...

Initial sexual explorations the first frontiers

After our first encounter and the measures we put in place to safeguard our privacy, G. and I were both excited with our situation. G. as a 17yr old boy had gone to heaven! There, a young girl, sexy (I hope he found me sexy at that age!!) very much willing to do sexual exploration with him. At an age and in an era, where most 17yr olds were ,let alone ,virgins, but with no sexual experience apart from their right hand and fingers, G. had struck gold. And me, I was curious…I was fascinated with...

Something in the WaterChapter 6 Pushing Back The Frontiers

What a weekend! Davie managed to persuade Claudia to get out of bed, and the statuesque black girl, 6 feet tall in her bare feet, made Louise and Jessica gasp as she clambered out of Davie's car and immediately clutched her boyfriend's arm. Her spare hand reached down and cupped his balls. One way and another, Davie wasn't going anywhere. Claudia must have had a sex-free drive down here. Not only was she as randy as a bitch in heat - you could practically smell it when she came into the...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 3 Dirt Floor

The first time I borrowed the hotel’s one-horse buckboard from the Bighorn so Rebecca could ride down to see her family, I followed her on Scarface. Stayed just out of sight, but she wasn’t checking her flank. I got my spyglass out and could see Chet and Rosie standing in front of the house. If he tried anything, I’d fire both barrels of my scattergun up into the air. The sound would carry easy, even this far away. But he just stood off to the side as she hugged her daughter, held her as...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 4 Polly Wolly Doodle

What Rebecca had spotted in that magazine from back East was an illustrated article about quilting. She and her mother and sisters had done some before she ran off with Chet. And now she was determined to get back into it in a serious way. These days Rebecca was working in the Bighorn Restaurant, waitressing for both lunch and dinner. Dinner was the big draw. She was a volunteer, wouldn’t take a dime from Mrs. Chambers. Would the money have helped her husband with his debts to Ollie...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 5 Dutch Oven

I didn’t wait to see if Marshal Autry would wire me back. I found myself missing Rebecca. And I had my whorehouse duties. I stopped at the Robinson homestead. Yeah, Cayuse Valdez had told them what we found. Yeah, the ranchers would keep watch, keep their guns handy. But they had to work, always more to do. Rosie nodded at me as I mounted Scarface. A first. I gave her a little salute and wheeled Scarface around. A week since I’d ridden south with Cayuse. The three Chippewas were in the...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 6 Nature

The Bighorn sporting ladies turned into mother hens, flocking around Rosie. She was surrounded by gentle attention, by affection. Which, I figured, was mostly to the good side of the ledger. Rosie was clingy with her mother. Rebecca had been overwhelmed with emotion. Joy, relief, guilt ... mostly joy, I think. The two of them, mother and daughter, were inseparable. But Rosie still hadn’t said a word. Of course no one asked her about what she’d been through. Not with the Chippewas, not with...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 7 Desecration

My room on the third floor — our room, I guess — had a rocking chair, a handsome walnut job that Rebecca had comforted up with a thick pillow filled with goose down and a red cover she stitched together herself. I liked to sit on it of an evening and sip a sip or two of Jameson. Rebecca had taken to undressing and then straddling me when she was in a certain mood. We put that chair through some pretty fast paces. Sometimes, when we’d finished, she’d squeeze me, keeping me corralled until all...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 9 Western Union

Cayuse and I, feet up on opposite sides of the sheriff’s desk, were sipping after-breakfast coffee that Rosie had brought us from the Bighorn. He said, “Take a ride, jefe?” Talkative this morning. “Sure. Where?” “Sodbusters.” It was outside our jurisdiction, some miles south of town. But things from the outside often slopped over city boundaries. And if Cayuse suggested it... We got our mounts from Livery Lou and wheeled them left, past the Holy Redemption, past Matty’s Bar, past the...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 10 Bushwhacked

We decided to picnic down by that little creek. Rebecca spread out a blanket and Rosie unpacked our lunch. Simple, just ham and biscuits and some corn whiskey to sip on. No need for a cooking fire. Rosie looked at her mother and Rebecca laughed out loud. Rosie grinned. Rebecca jumped up, “Mr. Murdock, that creek water looks mighty inviting. Care to join us?” Rosie stood too and, bold as brass, the two of them started unbuttoning their dresses. Not a care in the world. I stood up, looked...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 11 Whore of Babylon

I would never win any speed contests sending telegrams. My fingers are big and they felt clumsy tapping on the key. But I’d had enough experience to send a message on my own. And to decode incoming ones. It was a small talent, but learning how to do something new never had hurt me. Hunting and fishing were new once. Skinning. Roping. Shooting. Of course everything at Mrs. Adler’s had been new at one point. Credit due, Ollie Chambers may be portly and soft and over-careful around his...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 12 Poke

Cayuse carried a Smith & Wesson Model 3 revolver, .44 caliber. When he made his rounds in Little River, he usually left his Winchester rifle locked in the office. But he always carried that wicked-looking Bowie in his belt scabbard. Always. Just like I took my eight-gauge with me when I walked the town. More habit than necessity. The first time the Bighorn bartender, Cheney, saw it, he asked if I hunted locomotives. My first day in town. Well, we didn’t have any locomotives here, but my...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 13 Queen Victoria

Rebecca and I waited to order breakfast until Rosie and Cayuse came down to join us. Rosie was a little flushed, Cayuse looked the same. The Bighorn had eggs that morning, went good with salt pork and biscuits and honey. Rosie and Cayuse didn’t mention the previous night so neither did Rebecca and me. I figured Rosie and her mother would talk things over when they were alone. Although, thinking on it, Rosie was just as likely to talk with me. She’d gotten in the confiding habit back when...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 14 Organ

Evening didn’t take long to reach Little River, but the town never got all that quiet. Saloon laughter and arguments, a lone coyote off howling about something important to him, the wind whipping through. Sometimes I felt the night was talking to me, trying to tell me something. Word had come from Cleveland, via Kansas City, to pull in their murder suspect. Hold Venerable until further instructions arrived. It was a law enforcement request, not an order, but I was more than ready to...

Frontiers Flint MurdockChapter 15 Eagles

The three of us were in our usual position in bed — Rosie on my left, Rebecca on my right. Our body heat under the comforter felt good. Both of them had a hand under the sheet, gripping me. Rebecca had a smile in her voice, “Mr. Murdock?” “Mrs. Robinson.” “That is some show that Penny and Miss Melanie put on.” Rosie whispered, “Mrs. Chambers let us watch.” Rebecca, “Encouraged us to watch.” Rosie, “Some show.” “Oh?” Rebecca, “I was thinking, we were thinking...” “Yeah?” Not hard to...

Six Times A DayPart 77 Games without Frontiers

The strip poker game got rolling, and it played out much as it had the week before. The card rounds flew by as fast as possible, since everyone was eager to get naked and there was a time limit to be aware of as well. Alan insisted they put some music on. He pointed out that it would make things even more festive. Amy immediately bounced out of her chair. "B-52's!" That was her favorite band, and she played the B-52's albums so much that the others were a little sick of them. But...

Chris BeakerChapter 13 Games without Frontiers

He was back in Afghanistan, crouching behind the wreckage of his jeep hearing the moans of the others lying around while bullets were 'pinging' around them, it was only a matter of time before they were picked off by the snipers, his shoulder was also bleeding but he hadn't noticed it at the moment. He thought of something that he had seen in his dreams, it was in a book that told a spell to create what was supposed to be a shield, but it would only protect one person. He needed one that...

Plasterers

It was a beautiful sunny day and I decided to have my coffee and cigarette outside, as I sat there minding my own business I was looking across the road where the neighbour was having some work done in their house. I saw an older man about 40 plastering a wall and his younger assistant, probably about 20, was helping him. Then the older guy pushed him against the wall and started to kiss him, his hands were somewhere else as the younger man had his arm across his shoulders and his head in the...
