The FBI liaison pulled Bryant aside as he left the briefing.

"I've discussed this with my superiors and we have a suggestion," the woman said.

The FBI had been extremely helpful in getting the more mundane aspects of the sting operation into place. Merton Lysander Beckwith had a valid Georgia driver's license and a divorce record registered in the county. He had a vehicle registered with the state and had all of his tax filings in order. Beckwith Construction had a few contracts under its belt including one to work on a nearby dwelling that the FBI was renovating into a safe house for those set to testify in close by federal cases.

They had even gone as far as to convince the neighboring Smithfield School District to register Courtney Isabella Beckwith, with the correct birth year, as a freshman in good standing in their database. The school had updated her attendance and grades periodically because no one knew fully how capable the suspects were with a computer.

Courtney Beckwith had a social media page and hundreds of friends. There were pictures there of her and her father along with shots of Cassidy from her years in gymnastics. An Internet search for Courtney or Merton Lysander would pull up a few innocuous mentions in various places. Despite what Morales had mentioned, Bryant had thought his federal counterparts had done everything they could. He wasn't about to turn down a suggestion from them without a hearing.

"Sure," Bryant said.

"We think now is when you go into character full-time," the woman said. "Now that names have been exchanged and she knows where to look for you, it would not be a surprise for her to contact someone to investigate you. If you are never at your home, it will be a huge red-flag."

"Cassidy has classes," Bryant said.

"Miss Bell is only needed on Wednesday nights and alternating weekends," the woman corrected. "This is the highest priority for the federal Exploited Children Task Force. If you weren't already so deeply involved, it probably would have been pulled away from you by now. I know it has been discussed on the upper levels. We will alert the local agencies to be watchful of your dwelling to ensure that no one is watching. The house we selected for you has been altered so the bedroom is identical to yours. It also has an entrance that cannot be seen from the street. I realize this puts a crimp in meetings here in Emerald Cove but we will make arrangements that you can attend via teleconference. Is this something you'd consider?"

"You think she's going to have someone spying on me?" Bryant asked.

"We believe it is a real possibility," the woman told him. "Mr. Tallmadge was correct in his assessment. People like Ms. Pahl are generally caught within a month of their initial crime. This couple has evaded capture for almost four years, we believe. It is possible that Melinda Pahl's excuse was to get more information about you – your name, your address, your daughter's name. My contacts at cyber-security have informed me that Courtney Beckwith's social media page was hit last night for the first time since it was established. Now that we have a warrant in place for the Pahl's ISP I would be very surprised if that hit didn't come from their computer."

"Yeah, I can see that," Bryant said. "You know, she didn't ask for my phone number. I'll have to get a new cell number since mine will trace back to here."

"It's done," the woman said, pulling a smart phone out of her pocket. "It's the same number you have now except the area code is 912 instead of 843."

"That must have taken some doing," Bryant remarked.

"Not really," the woman said. "I saw the number was on the reserve/hold list so I reserved it. You can transfer the calls from your old phone to this one but I would highly discourage you from having it on your person.

"So you will consider moving to Scottsville?" the woman inquired.

"Won't that mean I'm not in my jurisdiction?" Bryant wondered. He didn't want anything to stand in the way of a successful conviction – or of having the case tried in Emerald Cove.

"This is still a joint operation with the FBI and local and state authorities in Georgia and South Carolina," the woman pointed out. "That gives you broad jurisdictional leeway. If you think the investigation will extend past those two states I'll need to know in time to alert other agencies."

"No, no," Bryant said quickly. "I just didn't want her to try to break into my house and then lose the arrest because I'm 40 miles from home."

"It won't be a problem," the woman assured him. "And if she tries to break into your house, I would suggest you simply shoot her and save us the cost of a trial. This is my third year with the federal task force but I'm not sure I've ever been more disgusted. I'm glad you took a risk for solo contact. Our profilers have come to the same conclusion after viewing your weekend session: the woman is likely the one in control and that she has an interest in you. I was going to bring it up today. That was good thinking on your part."

"Herman Tallmadge came up with it," Bryant stated. "He has gone above and beyond all expectations from a CI. Is there anything we can do to help him out when it's done?"

"I don't see what," the woman replied with a frown. "I will admit that he is a low-level offender with an almost non-existent risk of reoffending but this is a hot-potato that no one is willing to touch. If he was a car thief or even a murderer, we might be able to convince the governor to grant him a pardon. A child sex offender? Not likely to happen until the next passing fancy hits the legislature."

"Jan and I think he might do something drastic when he doesn't have this case to focus on," Bryant confided.

"You mean hurt a child?" the woman asked. "I don't see that."

"No," Bryant shook his head. "I mean he is likely to commit suicide. We don't want to see that happen but we have no idea how to prevent it."

The woman nodded her agreement.

"I'll think about it and let you know," she said. "I think we have at least six months to a year before this case will end."

"Six months to a year!" Bryant exclaimed.

"Until we get through the trial and appeals and all that shit, yeah," the woman said. "We'll have to let Mr. Tallmadge know that he might be called upon to testify. That will keep him around. In the meantime, maybe we can all figure out how to find some way to help him out."

Bryant and Cassidy pulled into the driveway of the house in Scottsville, Georgia, a few minutes after five, that afternoon. Jan, Holly and Herman had arrived earlier and were waiting in the spacious living room. It was far roomier than the apartment above O'Bannon's Pub.

The flat screen TV on the wall was broadcasting from the camera lined up on Bryant's computer and the trio – instead of sitting on couches and chairs huddled around a cell phone were able to listen to what was said through ear buds similar to what Bryant and Cassidy would wear into the session.

"One thing," Cassidy said. "The bedroom here isn't soundproofed like at Bryant's apartment. You will want to be very careful of how loudly you talk out here."

"Noted," Jan agreed. She thought about making a ribald comment about being careful how loud she was later when she was in bed with Bryant but let it pass.

"Okay, here's the game plan," Bryant said. "Cassidy, you don't know about my plans for Friday or my private chat. Okay?"

"Got it," the young woman agreed. "We're going to agree to the New Year's Eve get-together. I assume the beach resort she spoke about was Emerald Cove. I saw that the Chamber is planning a New Year's Eve gala. I've also laid some groundwork for moving the meeting there if they want something else. I've played up the party and moved O'Bannon's Pub to the top of the 'Places to Gather' on my web site. If they are thinking Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head, I think we can point them to Emerald Cove pretty easily."

"Nice work," Bryant said.

"I had to do something to make up for acting like a little kid who had her toy taken way this morning," Cassidy said. "This idea hit me and I figured that even if we don't use it, it's still useful. I figured Chuck would have no problem booting everyone out of his place so the cops could use it for a sting. Just to be sure, I called him this afternoon and got his permission."

Bryant put his arm around her and kissed the top of her head.

"I'm sorry I was such an ogre this morning," he said.

"A troll," Cassidy remarked with a laugh. "Now, I think we should discuss how far we're going to let things go. Oh, and don't even think of slapping my ass again, Mister. I might be small but I am usually in the perfect spot to punch you in the balls. Got it?"

"Got it," Bryant said. "I only did that because I was worried that we were leading into somewhere we weren't prepared to go. I also didn't mean for it to be so hard a smack. I apologize."

"If you want to play with my bottom, it's fine," Cassidy said with a grin.

"I think you should push the boundaries tonight," Jan said. "Bryant, you've got a meeting with her on Friday. You might feel up Cassidy a little bit to make Emma jealous. Remember you haven't seen her since Sunday, so don't be afraid to be touchy-feely."

"Yeah," Cassidy said, pushing her small bust outward. "Don't afraid to be touchy-feely, Daddy. Give me a minute while I change clothes."

Bryant went into the bedroom – which looked eerily like his in Emerald Cove – and took a seat at the desk. He logged on to the web site and waited. Cassidy came in and joined him. She wore a white tank top that clearly showed her nipples and a pair of the smallest panties Bryant had ever seen.

"I figured you'd have given me a good going over as soon as we got home," she said. Her hair was messed up and she had dabbed water on her chest and forehead to look like sweat.

"I guess I should do the same," Bryant said. He splashed some water on his face and removed his shirt entirely. He had just resumed his seat – and Cassidy had just perched on his lap – when the private message window popped up. This was a name he didn't recognize so Bryant ignored it.

"It's a standard ploy," Herman said into their ear buds. "I think this is them seeing if you're serious about them or just playing the field. If the next one pops up, just type in that you're waiting for someone in specific and not interested in chatting."

The window popped up again and Bryant followed Herman's suggestion. Thirty seconds later the Westlakes logged on and Bryant smiled to himself.

"Hey, wanna go to cam tonight?" the message read.

Cassidy typed in "Sure" while Bryant got everything in order to record the session.

"Oh, goody, we all dressed alike," Emma said warmly when the window came up. She was sitting there with her two daughters. All three were dressed like Cassidy – tight white tank tops and, if Bryant had to guess, small underwear that covered barely anything.

"Great minds!" Cassidy said happily. "How are you tonight, Destiny?"

"I'm good!" the little girl said.

"And you, Hope?" Cassidy wondered.

"Good, too," the other girl said. As before they all had blonde hair and wore make up.

"Hey, Emma," Bryant said.

"Hi, Mitch," Emma said with a blush that was entirely too real.

"Where's Alan tonight?" Bryant inquired.

"He's not feeling well," Emma explained. "He thinks it's a case of the flu so he's resting."

"I hope he feels better soon," Bryant said.

"I'm sure it's nothing," Emma told them. "If he gets a hang nail, he thinks the next step is amputation."

"Show her your hand, Daddy!" Cassidy said. Bryant gave her look. He had a scar on the back of hand from a childhood accident but he wasn't sure that's what she wanted. Cassidy took his hand and held it up to the camera.

"He ran a nail clear through his hand when he was working on our house," Cassidy lied. "He was using a nail gun and I think I distracted him. He just pulled the nail out, poured some alcohol over it and went back to work."

"Wow!" Emma said. "What sort of work do you do?"

"Carpentry," Bryant answered. The company the FBI set up for him was label as general contracting and he was certain that the woman had already investigated his web site.

"Just carpentry?" Emma inquired.

"My Dad can fix anything!" Cassidy said. "He builds houses, does renovations, repairs roofs or decks or bathrooms. He's really good."

"I'll bet he is," Emma replied. The double entendre was meant for Bryant alone but Cassidy caught on and frowned her displeasure. Emma noticed immediately and backtracked. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me."

"Well, you weren't wrong either," Cassidy remarked with a grin. The two smaller girls looked confused so Emma leaned over and whispered in Destiny's ear. The little girl laughed and explained it to her sister, who smiled broadly.

"We were hoping the invitation for New Year's Eve was still open," Bryant said. "We'd really like to get to know you folks better."

"Of course it is!" Emma said enthusiastically. "Girls, wouldn't it be nice to get to know Kameron and Mitch?"

Both girls nodded happily.

"Where were you thinking?" Bryant asked. "Hilton Head or something like that?"

"There is this quaint little town a few miles south of Hilton Head," Emma said. "We go there a lot. It's called Emerald Cove."

"I'm not sure I've heard of it," Bryant lied. "Oh, hell, that's where all the cops were busted a couple of years ago for corruption. That's just a few miles from here."

Emma frowned. The arrest of the police force had put a big crimp in her plans for that summer. She had a nice young morsel lined up but the publicity from the arrests caused the parents to back out. It had taken her six more months to bring someone else along far enough for a meeting – and that meeting had been lackluster at best. Both the father and the girl were scared shitless. Emma and Alan had plied the girl with enough liquor to stop a rhinoceros and that meant she had been a dead fuck. The father hadn't even been able to garner a decent erection even when she and her two daughters were working on him.

"Sorry," Bryant said when he saw Emma's expression, "did you know one of the cops?"

"No, no," Emma said, although she did know many of the policemen now in federal or state prisons, "I just remembered reading about it and it brought back some bad memories of that summer. It's okay, really."

"If you're sure," Bryant said. "I didn't mean to spoil the evening."

"You haven't," Emma said, smiling again. "We thought we might put on a little show for you tonight if you're willing."

"A show?" Bryant asked. His voice was tight. He knew as soon as the girls got undressed Jan would notify the Sanford Police Department of what was transpiring and they would kick down the door and arrest everyone present.

"Nothing major," Emma told him. "We thought we'd dance for you. We've been practicing."

The two little girls were nodding eagerly beside their mother.

"That would be great!" Cassidy said. "Maybe when we all meet I can show you some of the moves from my gymnastic routine."

"You do gymnastics?" Emma inquired, sincerity dripping off every word. The woman was nothing if not an accomplished liar.

"I got a preferred invitation to try out for my high school team," Cassidy said, as though it was tantamount to having high tea with the Queen.

"Impressive," Emma said. "Isn't that impressive, girls?"

Again, both little heads nodded at the news.

"We play soccer!" Destiny said.

"One of my best friends is on the soccer team at my old school," Cassidy said. "I go to every game."

"Maybe you can come to ours in the Spring," Hope offered. "I mean, we'll all be good friends by then."

"I'm sure we will," Emma said. "I'm sure we'll all be very good friends by then."

The three females in Sanford, South Carolina, put on a routine that would make a stripper proud. They shook their barely covered butts and shimmied their chests. Both girls went down into splits as their mother pointed her butt toward the camera and shook it lasciviously.

"Gross," Cassidy muttered under her breath.

"You're supposed to be aroused by the display," Jan whispered through her microphone. "Bryant, slide Cassidy over in front of you and run your hands up the front of her shirt. Better. Now nibble on her neck or something. Make them think they're getting you all hot."

The dance continued for several more minutes until the three Westlakes resumed their seats in front of the camera. Bryant's hands were playing with Cassidy's small breasts and she had her head back on his shoulder enjoying the sensation.

"That was something!" Bryant said enthusiastically. "You three are really sexy when you move like that."

The two little girls practically beamed at the praise. Their mother had told them to be especially nice this evening and they knew better than to cross their mother.

"Thank you, Mitch," Emma said. "It looks like you two are enjoying yourselves."

Bryant jerked his hands out of Cassidy's tank top quickly.

"No, it's okay," Emma said, although the look in her eyes showed it was decidedly not okay with her in the least.

"We haven't seen each other in a few days," Cassidy said. "We had a quickie when we got home to take the edge off but seeing you three like that got us revved up again."

Cassidy enjoyed pissing the woman off – but then she thought that Emma might take it out on the little girls.

"We'll behave," she said with a laugh. "So long as you guys don't have any more hot dances planned."

"Well... ," Emma said, offering a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "No, that's all we had planned. Kameron, is there enough room there to show us some of your gymnastic moves?"

"Uh, maybe," Cassidy replied. It had been years since she'd done gymnastics but she had worked on her old routine in case the investigation called for it. "Dad, can you spot me?"

Bryant stood and pushed the chair out of the way.

"I can't do any tumbling because the room is too small," Cassidy said. "I can show you some basic moves though. Is that okay?"

"I think that will be great!" Emma said. "Girls, do you want to see Kameron do some gymnastics?"

Again, two little blonde heads bobbed furiously.

Bryant got down on his knees and Cassidy did a back walkover over his arms. The move caused her shirt to stretch tight against her erect nipples and her small panties to bunch up far enough that her pubic hair stuck out the sides. Then she did a hand stand and walked around the room. The camera's range didn't extend very far but all three Westlake females got a look at Cassidy's boobs when the shirt tail fell to her neck. She stopped and stood up immediately.

"Oops," she said, tugging the shirt into place. "Sorry about that. That's about all I can do without more space or specialized equipment. I could probably do a vault off Dad's back but he might not survive it."

"We wouldn't want that!" Emma said. Cassidy's display had been enough to convince her that everything Merton Beckwith had told her was the absolute truth. "So, do you have any shows planned for tonight?"

"We are summarily unprepared," Bryant said with a laugh as he sat back down. "Besides, I have a few skills with a hammer but nothing that you'd find interesting."

"I liked the show you were doing when we finished dancing," Destiny said after a slight nudge from her mother. "I really like it when someone plays with my titties."

"Me, too," Cassidy said. "But I'm not sure I'm ready to do that in front of anyone."

"That's okay, Dear," Emma said. "I understand. Have you two made any movies together yet?"

"Movies?" Cassidy asked, seemingly perplexed at the idea. "We have some of us building a birdhouse for my second-grade ecology project."

The two little girls giggled at the answer.

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 17

As Bryant was racing down the streets in pursuit of Cassidy Bell, Jan Elliot was trying to track down an anomaly in her department. For months, there had been a line item in her budget for someone named Scott Lewis. She knew he worked somewhere for the city. She had received e-mails from him any number of times. But she had never met him and she couldn't seem to locate him. It took three wrong turns and twenty minutes of wandering through City Hall before Jan located a small office on the...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 14

Ten minutes after Bryant's first meeting with his entire detective squad, Jan Elliot walked into his office and shut the door. "Uh-oh ... the closed door," Bryant said. "That means you plan to yell." "Maybe I mean to sexually harass you," Jan replied as she took a chair opposite him. "Nope, you'd have called me to your office for that," Bryant joked. "I'd have called you to my office if I planned to yell," Jan said. "Look, we need to hash out our responsibilities here....

Bryant hung up from his call to Emerald Cove and explained the situation to the rest of the group. "So we have a Gallia County deputy interested in Shrekengost's whereabouts," Garvin summed up. "And Shrekengost and his mother are in the wind." "Sounds about right," Bryant agreed. "That's a hard thing to do without a lot of help," Andrews put forth from where he stood by the second vehicle the group would take south. "Think about it. You essentially have to have someone in your...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 13

It was Sunday night before Bryant got the chance to talk to Barry Chumley, the deputy sheriff sergeant from Gallia County, Ohio. The man had disappeared after the hearing before Bryant could get next to him. With no other recourse, he called the phone number Stan Williams had secured. "Deputy Chumley?" Bryant asked when the phone was answered. "Who's this?" the voice asked. "I'm Bryant Hawkins," Bryant replied. "We met today. Well, not actually met but we were in the same...

My Granddaddy Emerald Green

When he died last year, all ten of his grandchildren were called together at a family resort for a weekend. Granddaddy had provided for everything, paying for our transportation, lodging, and food. At a banquet celebrating his life we were treated to a slide show of pictures of him as a baby in 1932 up until the death of grandmamma in 2006 when he posed with us after her funeral. A number of the pictures were of him receiving special honors throughout his life from 1st place in a spelling...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 12

Bryant was on an airplane, headed to Columbia when the reality of the situation hit him. The young woman had overheard his conversation with the bartender and set up Mayfield. A guy like Mayfield could probably take a lot of ribbing but to have an attractive female question his sexuality would provoke a response. Her companion obviously knew how to take care of himself. He had risked an assault conviction to help him put Mayfield in prison. Jan was incredulous when Bryant had phoned her. She...

Sgt. Scott's intent to pin a bad shooting on him disheartened Bryant. But he figured he had time later to worry about it – and that there was nothing he could about it either way. Instead, he followed Jan back to her house. She insisted she was doing fine but she could tell Bryant was worried about her. She also knew that Bryant had a lot more experience with this sort of thing than she did. So she didn't put up much of a fight when he told he'd come over to fix dinner for her. Bryant...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 40

For the second time in 13 days, Bryant drove from Atlanta back to Emerald Cove. His had flown from Dayton to Charlotte, N.C., after dropping off the Lucas family in Wapakoneta. He had left Kelley Lucas with enough money that she could rent a car and a hotel room four times in the next two months. He planned to put the Lucas family in for the reward that the Feds had offered for the capture of Eileen Mayfield – if she ever turned up. That $50,000 would help the family a great deal, he...

The impromptu party lasted until Chuck had to close the bar. Husbands and wives made appearances and several of the group's older children also showed up (some to drive their inebriated parents home). It was the only lull of the weekend. Bryant and Jan used the time to catch up on piles of paperwork that had grown during the days they had spent in the courtroom. But the largest amount of work was left for Jonah Attenborough and Allyson Granger. They had to prepare for the penalty phase of...

Rather than have Steve and Allyson track down their vehicles, Bryant suggested they take his SUV — since it was parked right behind them. He tossed the keys to Allyson and climbed into the backseat. Allyson admonished the lieutenant and patrolman to maintain radio silence. "If either of you call ahead to warn them, I will add tampering with evidence charges against you," she promised. The men nodded and returned to their vehicles. Then she turned to Steve Curtis. "You drive," she...

Bryant took his leave from O'Bannon's Pub at seven thirty. He had switched to water for the last hour, even though he'd only consumed two beers in the time he'd been there. A DUI would not bode well for him in his job search. He plopped down on his bed at the inn and stretched his legs out. He thought about what he knew about Emerald Cove. Sure, the job would have its downsides. Every job would be like that. But those problems wouldn't necessarily be his to correct. His job would be to...

The October air was chilly when Bryant first saw the Silver Memorial Bridge across the Ohio River and into Gallipolis. The temperature in Emerald Cove had been in the mid-seventies when he departed. But after taking into account the drive to Atlanta, the wait at the security checkpoint, the hassle about bringing a firearm aboard the plane and the travel time from Columbus, Ohio, or...

The beach was starting to fill up. It was always that way on Friday mornings. The people heading out that afternoon wanted one last day in the sun and the people just starting their vacations were eager to see the sand and surf. As Jan was having a showdown with the woman she credited with saving her emotional life Bryant was sitting across the desk from a fifty-year-old gray haired college professor. The prosecutor had no intention of painting Ricky Currence as anything besides what he was: a convicted rapist. He had been transported from Mount Olive Correctional Facility in West Virginia, along with two West Virginia State Troopers, and he was being housed in the jail of a neighboring county (because Mayfield was being housed in Emerald Cove's facility during his trial). Currence shuffled into the courtroom along with his two handlers. The witness didn't wear a suit and tie or a...

Bryant pulled back into the spot he had vacated only half an hour before. He knew the officers weren't dressed to wear a vest beneath their uniform tops so he picked up windbreakers for them to wear on top of their armor. He took Grant's spot while she slipped a vest over her uniform and then did the same for Harv. He did the same over the next few minutes until everyone was outfitted properly. Then he drove around the corner and pulled to a stop in front of Jan's house. He saw Holly's...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 11

Holly Garvin and Jim Andrews walked briskly up the darkened path between a pair of dormitories accompanied by a pair of Huntington Police Department officers. They saw the hulking figure of Bryant Hawkins looming ahead, surrounded by several uniformed officers. There was a band of students standing in the background, looking on in interest, trying to figure out what had just taken place in front of the dormitory. There was another visible figure; this one was lying on the grass. The suspect...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 41

"I don't like involving Cassidy in this," Bryant said as he and Jan walked into his office. Bryant sat at his desk and Jan sat across from him. "She's a civilian." "A lot of police agencies do it this way," Holly said from the doorway. "I don't care if they do," Bryant replied. "Surely we have someone in uniform who can play that part. It's only for a web chat. How clearly can a person see on a computer screen?" "A lot of computers are high-definition," Holly said, shaking...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 34

It was only a few moments later when Anna returned holding her phone. "He wants to talk to you," she told Bryant as she pushed the phone at him. "Sure thing," Bryant said in a warm tone that he hoped would carry through the cell towers. "I'd like to talk to him, too. Thanks, Anna. You've been a big help." He noticed the smile Jan gave him and figured he must have handled the situation correctly. Outside of the week or so he spent hanging out with Angel, Bryant had little to no...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 35

As the rest of the group got ready to head back to their respective abodes, Jan pulled Bryant aside. "I want home-field advantage tonight," she told him. "Why don't you go upstairs and pack an overnight bag." "Shouldn't we stay close until the girls are home?" he wondered. "They're fine," Jan assured him. "They all know you'll have their asses in a sling if they go looking for trouble." "I was more worried about the trouble that might find them without looking," Bryant...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 42

Bryant was emotionally drained by the time the chat ended more than an hour later. Neither side had asked for pictures or any personal information. Little Darlings 23 said they had two children, both girls. One was eleven and the other was ten. Outside of sharing a few vacation stories and talking in general, there was nothing more gained from the exchange. "We'll be on Saturday night if you want to chat again," the screen read. "Hope to see you then." "Very productive," Tallmadge...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 19

The second day of the trial began with Dr. Tim Houston still on the stand. Wyatt Quinn had few questions he could ask, but he believed he still needed to take a run at the man. Otherwise the jury was likely to take every opinion the man stated as the Gospel. He began small, questioning some of the word choices that Houston had used. But he soon worked his way up to the question he wanted a different answer to. The capital murder case hinged on special circumstances. In this instance, the...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 31

Jan decided that she really didn't need to go back to her house for clothing. Bryant had laundered the things she had packed for Atlanta. She still had a black skirt and a white blouse clean. That's what she would wear for her bartending duties. She mostly wanted to get some sleepwear. The cotton nightshirt was fine when she thought they'd be in separate rooms in Atlanta but it didn't send the right message while they were sharing an apartment in Emerald Cove. So after they decided just...

Harry Potter and the Curse of Emerald Witch Part V

PART V *Gasp!* Heather quickly sat upright in her bed, panting heavily. She was completely drenched in sweat from head to toe. The amulet beneath her night dress was glowing brighter than ever, pulsing and pounding like a beating heart against her chest. She placed her hand on her chest as she tried to catch up with her breath. For a moment she thought she was hyperventilating. Then, she thought she was dying. "Oh no," gasped Heather. "No, no, no!" She thought she'd never get...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 47

"I wish we could arrest her right there," Jan said. She was riding with Bryant in his truck. Allyson and the FBI agent were following close behind. They would take possession of the evidence as soon as Bryant was away from the house. "They have to analyze the evidence," Bryant said. "But Allyson already has the arrest warrants drawn up. The first sign of illicit material and the cuffs go on. We can add charges as the analysis continues. I wasn't joking about what I told her. I just...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 4

It had been years since Bryant had been to the beach. He would occasionally visit Lake Michigan but that hardly counted as a beach. This southern summer sun was hot, but it was a pleasant hot. It lacked the humidity that made it unbearable. The scenery was nice — and not just the whitecaps on the ocean. The beach was filled with vacationers, and many of them were attractive females. It had been more than a year since Bryant's last date and glancing around at all the female flesh on display...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 21

Allyson asked for a sidebar with Judge Manning and the prosecution before the second afternoon session opened. Jonah Attenborough joined them at the bench. "Your Honor, the state asks for the Court's indulgence," Allyson opened. "Because of Mr. Quinn's constant interruptions over matters than have already been decided and Mr. Mayfield's outbursts, the state's case is not as far along with this witness as we'd hoped. I'm positive that Mr. Quinn will wish to spend a considerable...

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Emerald Witch Part III

PART III "You are in danger, Harry Potter, but from yourself." Confined inside the Slytherin dungeons, curled up on the black leather couch, dressed in a green and silver coloured uniform was Heather Potter, now a Slytherin, apparently. It was the worst possible thing that the curse of the Emerald Witch could have done to her. To become a member of the house she had resented for so many years was not only sickening but it upset her greatly. She felt as if she was...

Andersonville 12 The Day Linda Anderson Came To Town

I slid the report into the proper file just as he walked into the room. Dennis Butz stood there wearing his three-piece suit, looking as handsome and charming as any man could. But I was not to be tamed by his charm. "Hello, Linda," he said with a friendly grin. "Judge Herns isn't in today," I replied back in a frosty tone. "I'm not here to see her." "My plane leaves in less then an hour Dennis, what do you want?" I slammed the file drawer shut and walked past him to my desk...

Emerald Princess Chapters 1620 v2

This novel is set in the universe of the Whateley Academy. It takes place after the first generation characters have graduated, but I was in the midst of writing this before the 2nd Generation Canon came out - my apologies that it doesn't directly tie in there! This is fan fiction for the Whateley Academy, and may or may not match the timeline, characters, and continuity, but since it's fan fiction, who cares? Most likely it will not match the canon of the universe. I believe this is the...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 36

Bryant and David got the Kozlov family settled at the Seaside Inn before heading in opposite directions. David and Maria were going out to an intimate dinner at the Stone Crab Resort. The teenage girls had planned an evening of miniature golf and go-kart racing. Jan and Bryant settled down at her house for a quiet evening at her house. "Did you get all the invitations out for tomorrow?" Bryant asked. "I told Linda," Jan replied. "That should be enough." Bryant laughed aloud and...

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Emerald Witch Part II

PART II "There, look!" "Where?" "Next to Ron Weasley of course!" "Wearing the glasses? It can't be!" "Did you see what he looks like now?" "Yeah I know, creepy isn't it?" Whispers followed Harry from the moment he left the abandoned girls lavatory three weeks before. He is still a girl. People queuing outside classrooms stood on tiptoe to get a look at him, or doubled back to pass him in the corridors again, staring, gaping at the new female Harry. He wished they wouldn't but at...

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Emerald Witch Epilogue

EPILOGUE Harry lay face down, listening to the silence. He was perfectly alone. Nobody was watching. Nobody else was there. He was not perfectly sure that he was there himself. A long time later, or maybe no time at all, it came to him that he must exist. He was more than a disembodied thought because he was lying, definitely lying, on some surface. Therefore, he had a sense of touch, and the thing against which he lay existed too. Almost as soon as he had reached this...

Emerald Princess ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Chapter 29: Combat Finals ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ THAT NIGHT WITH Caireen in her castle she cuddled me, fed me, cuddled me, fed me, and cuddled some more; all while I continued teething in her world too. Each time I nursed from her though, I felt stronger, and by the time she changed me and nursed me that night my...

Emerald Princess Chapters 15 v2

Foreword: In 2016 I began posting this story, Emerald Princess, set in the Whateley Universe. Real life happened, along with a major case of writer's block, and I stalled out in the middle of Chapter 21. Several people have tried to get me to return to this since I stopped, but I just could never get my head back into the story. Finally a new friend, Chloe, badgered me enough I decided to take another look at it. As a result I have managed to finish the full novel, which is...

Harry Potter and the Curse of the Emerald Witch Part IV

PART IV For a moment, nothing happened and the full feeling was freed from her mind. She thought she had beaten The Emerald Curse. Suddenly, the amulet chain tightened and began to squeeze tightly on her throat. She tried to pull it off as it dug into her skin but it was much too strong. She trashed about the place, gasping for air, wrenching and choking. "The old man must DIE!" screamed Alys. "Arrrrrgh!" croaked Heather, pleading for Alys to stop. She started to feel woozy and...

Our special forces groups had been reinforced with another hundred men, and continued to...

My Emerald Attraction

It was my green night. I don't know why, I just like the color. My husband, Terry, was tying his bowtie in the mirror. His white cotton button-down and black slacks fit him well. The vee of his red and black suspenders widened at his broad shoulders and matched the black tie of his tuxedo perfectly. We did this probably three times per year for the last three years. It had to be the biggest event. It had to be the richest people. We didn't really run in those circles, but that's probably how we...

Randis Vacation Part 3 of Randi

Randi's Vacation Randi woke up to his alarm and quickly silenced it. A quick glance to his left confirmed the Denise was already up. She almost always got up before him preferring some extra time between getting ready for work and needing to walk out the door. He preferred to have enough time to get ready, eat and go. He walked to the bathroom which was right in the master bedroom. The condo they bought was a bit extravagant but provided plenty of room and they could afford it on...

The Emerald Lagoon

My lovers are always surprised, sometimes even shocked, at the overwhelming strength and duration of my orgasms. I never reveal the true reason, that would truly be shocking. It was July 1st. We’d arrived at my grandparents' farm the night before. It was thrilling to be back in Transylvania where I grew up. My parents and I had left when I was eight to emigrate to the United States for a better life. Now, at twenty-two, this was my graduation present, the one I’d longed for. My memories of the...

Emerald Princess Chapter 21

Well at long last here we are! I last posted a chapter of this in February of 2017. I had some real life things that came up then and I just couldn't ever get my head back in the space to write this again! It's always bothered me that I didn't finish it... but Exchanged, Diamond Tours, Seems Too Good, Undercover Tour, and another novel under a different pen name all ended up coming out and I couldn't do anything with this one! (This particular chapter has sat half-finished for much of...

Andrea Standing part 2 of Andreas Stand

Andrea Standing (part 2 of Andrea's Stand) A note at the beginning. One of the problems with writing a serial story is that the author feels a need to recap what happened in the prior portions. Please go back and read part 1, "Andrew Running". It will make this a better story. Briefly Andrew at 19, abused by his father, runs away to a distant relative, Aunt Clara. Andrew goes along with a joke played by Clara's lover Marnie, and ends up as Andrea working in Marnie's luxury used car...

Interview With the BimboChapter 3 Life in Emerald Lake

"So that's how you became like this?" asked Annabel, "No, that's how I became an air headed, sex-crazed bimbo that the stereotype expects. It took years to become who I am today. On that day, when I saw Lester for the first time as Lulu, I wasn't thinking of trying to escape, or even trying to think clearly. My goals were simple, to get his cock inside me as quickly as possible because masturbation pales in comparison to having as many cocks inside you as you can get your hands on. I...

Death and a Life in Emerald CoveChapter 23

As in many criminal trials, the defense had the option of waiting until the close of the case in chief (another name for the prosecution's parade of testimony and evidence) to deliver its opening statement. Wyatt Quinn stood in front of the assembled jurors with his hands in the pockets of his Brooks Brothers suit. He didn't have a picture of the victim or any other prop with him. He would use his words to sway the jury to his side of the argument. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury," he...
