I grinned as Samantha tossed my son into the air while Domino led my daughter Cambra and their three back to us. All three had young dragons that followed Camdra’s Jewel in a swirling chase that made people stare. Amanda snorted as she nursed our daughter Samantha, “I can not believe they picked all three girls.”

My sister grinned, “Family charm.”

I grinned as I turned to look towards the entrance to the royal park. A large party of guards were entering and spreading out while a smaller group headed straight for us. Two dragons leaped into the air and several more followed as they swirled and then followed them towards us. Dragon stood on her back legs and made a long warble.

She like Cynthia were on Amanda’s lap and seemed more then fascinated with my daughter. The flock of dragons slowed and circled before picking spots on and around Amanda. She shifted but ignored them since this was not the first time it had happen. Samantha looked at me, “So why are they all so interested in her?”

I shrugged, “The pictures I get from Dragon are shaded so I have no idea. I can say that if anyone tried to harm her I do not think any of them would use a stasis bite.”

She chuckled as the guards reached us and the empress slipped out of the middle. She grinned as she bent to peer at my daughter, “She is a perfect doll.”

I smiled, “So you escaped the crowd after all.”

She smiled as she moved a couple of dragons and sat beside Amanda, “They have a new petition that requests in the most polite language that I produce an heir.”

Amanda snorted, “It is time and you did...”

The empress sighed, “I know and actually that was one reason why I asked you here.”

She glanced around at all the guards, “What do you know about something called Cane’s Protectorate?”

My sister stiffened, “Where did you hear about them?”

I looked at her before I glanced around, “We should not speak of that here.”

The empress frowned, “I can use...”

I shook my head, “How long have you known me?”

She sighed, “How bad can it be?”

I stood and moved closer before gesturing to the guards, “Surround us so no one can see.”

I waited and then bent to whisper in the empress’s ear, “They were the first teachers for the school.”

She looked at me but I turned her head, “They are a clan and can disappear even while you look at them. As far as I know they are not assassins but ... if they wished you dead it would happen. They are from ancient Sol and are extremely adept at stealth or killing.”

I pulled back, “Where did you hear the name?”

She looked around, “My fleet intel briefing this morning mentioned a man from ... they wished a meeting with me.”

I straightened and turned, “What does that have to do with...”

She sighed, “They have a client that wishes a union with us.”

I gestured, “Time to go.”

I turned and walked out of the group and stopped. I scanned the park before speaking, “Send one to speak with me.”

It was not a whisper or very loud but I could almost feel someone and knew they had heard. I turned as the empress and her guards left with my sister and Amanda. Domino moved the children ahead of him while dragons seemed to fill the air. It was ten minutes before the man seemed to step out of thin air, “You ask much assassin’s child.”

I relaxed, “You wish to meet with the empress and for that I will risk all if needed. Speak to me and tell me why I should allow you to speak with her.”

He smiled, “A long time associate has contacted us. The emperor of Cairo wishes a union for his youngest son. He could not propose it openly because of his nobles. The young man is ... not our sort or yours. He is a dedicated young man who is very loyal to his father.”

I turned and glanced around, “Why now?”

He snorted, “All know the she wolf is resisting her nobles demands to mate and have a child.”

I smiled as I looked at him, “She wolf?”

He shrugged, “She is very firm in her protection of her people.”

I chuckled, “True.”

I was thinking and finally nodded, “Where and when?”

He looked at me carefully before pulling a card and handing it to me, “He will be here in two days. It is supposed to be a trade delegation from his father. We will be protecting him while he is here.”

I took the card, “I will inform her majesty.”

I turned and walked out of the park and headed for the palace. When I entered the empress’s study she was speaking with several minor nobles and a fleet admiral. I waited and saw her eyes flicker to me before she continued. She finally gestured and they moved away and I moved to the side of her desk. I glanced at her guards, “We need privacy.”

One looked at me before nodding and whispering and moving towards the door while the other guards herded people out. The empress sat back and waited and when the door closed she cleared her throat, “Well?”

I searched her desk and picked up two comp screens and checked them before I tossed them across the room, “Bugs.”

I looked at her, “The Cane’s Protectorate has two missions. To protect the prince of Cairo on his visit and to broker a possible union between you and him. All I have heard of him has been good but you would know more than I. In any case it is your choice.”

She turned to look out her armored window, “His name is James Alexander Cara. He is the youngest son and by all reports an honest man. I have met him a few times and he was very ... likeable.”

She smiled slightly and then looked at me, “His father’s conditions?”

I shrugged, “That would be something he would have to tell you.”

She nodded and stood to pace and I waited and finally cleared my throat, “As much as I hate to say it you do need an heir. One with this prince will quiet your nobles and keep them from fighting to prove they should be the one to ... assist you.”

She snorted and then laughed as she looked at me, “Very well. I will ask Amanda if I can borrow you. You can tell this Cane’s Protectorate that I will consider a union but only after I meet with James.”

I nodded and cleared my throat and she lifted an eyebrow, “The Cane’s Protectorate is guarding him for a reason. They are not cheap and never used without reason. Let your guards know there is a threat. I will try to find out from where this threat might come and why.”

She nodded and then smiled, “I find that I am looking forward to meeting the prince.”

I chuckled as I headed for the door, “Let your dragons know so they do not bit him if you decide to bed him.”

She laughed as I opened the door and gestured her guards back in. I did not have to go far to find one of the protectorate. I felt him long before he appeared to walk beside me. He glanced at me and smiled, “You are in a good mood.”

I smiled, “Her majesty will consider a union but wants to meet the prince first. What I want to know is who you are guarding him from and why he needs you and not his royal guards.”

He looked at me as we walked out of the palace and I headed towards a connected estate we were staying at. He looked around finally, “Several of his oldest brother’s supporters think to make sure there are no others in line to succeeded his father. His brother is not part of this and is trying to stop it but two cousins and a sister have died.”

I snorted, “He knows who is behind it.”

He smiled, “We believe so. The emperor is not convinced but has engaged us to protect the rest of his children.”

I looked at him as I stopped by the guard into the estate, “And you have orders for after the emperor dies just incase his son acts openly.”

He looked at me carefully, “Perhaps.”

I nodded, “In any case that is the emperor’s problem and yours and in the future. Do not use your vanishing act around the empress. I will attend her and know if you are there.”

I glanced at Dragon as she dropped out of the sky and landed on his shoulder. He shifted as he looked at her, “And your ... creatures will know. They can see us I think.”

I held out a hand and she jumped and landed on the wrist and climbed to my shoulder, “Your people trained the masters that taught me.”

He shifted again and frowned, “A task we did not ask for or enjoy. There are many such schools now and we are not happy about it.”

He looked around, “We have watched you and your sister and are happy you did not choose the darker path. While we have sometimes walked it, the ones we took were always judged before taken.”

I looked at him and he smiled, “Go prepare and be with your family.”

He walked away and vanished after a dozen steps. I walked into the estate and headed for the manor. When I stepped in the front door it was to hear shrieks as the children chased the dragons. I headed into the large living area and smiled as I watched the older children. I shifted as Amanda stopped beside me, “I think the empress is attracted to the younger son of the emperor of Cairo.”

She chuckled, “Among a few others.”

I glanced at her, “I will be protecting her when he arrives. He will be asking about courting her with intentions to marry.”

She grinned, “I can not wait to return the favor she extended me.”

I looked at her and she headed through the room and then grinned as I followed. I spent the evening with my family and slipped out early in the morning. I felt the shadows as I left the estate and let Dragon leap into the air. The shadow stepped out of the night to walk beside me and chuckled, “You would have made a good brother.”

I smiled and glanced at him, “Your name?”

He looked ahead, “You may call me Caleb.”

We walked in the gate to the empress’s estate and I gestured to the guards. One turned to speak in a whisper as we continued. When we stepped into the small dining room there were eight guards around the room and the empress across the table. She looked up from a comp screen and sat back while lifting a small cup of tea, “Morpheus.”

I smiled and gestured, “This is Caleb.”

Her eyes looked at him and I knew she saw more than most. She bowed her head, “How may I assist the Cane’s Protectorate?”

He bowed, “His highness, Prince James Alexander Cara will be here tomorrow. We are here to broker a union between you and him. His father wishes to let you know he is not asking for a union with your empire or alliances. His wish is the marriage and happiness of his son. His son has told him of you and of his admiration and attraction.”

He smiled, “Understand majesty, this would hopefully be a marriage of the heart. James is a private person with no ambition to rule, in fact he detests the politics his father must wade through. He has a passion for flying and music.”

Deputy PorterChapter 2

"Why can't you be sociable," the belligerent drunk asked. "Just go away and leave me alone," the young woman replied. He put his hands on her, which was the step over the line as far as I was concerned. I walked up and showed him my badge. "You need to go on home. You can either leave here now and come back, or you can wait for the manager to ask you to leave in which case you won't be welcome again." I tried to be calm and reasonable. "Bullshit, I ain't going nowhere," he...

Deputy PorterChapter 4

Life fell into a boring routine quickly. It had been a bore since the first month and it stayed that way for eight months. It was out of the blue. when something really exciting happened. It was sad, but that didn't change the fact that it brought excitement to the Sheriff's department. Some hikers found a child's body wrapped in a tarp. Since she was wrapped in a tarp everyone jumped right to murder as a cause of death. It took the Medical Examiner three hours to rule that it was indeed...

Deputy MorpheusChapter 6 Prison Escape

I glanced up as the commander stepped into the room and everyone quieted. He looked at me, “Morpheus, take Swift, Taylor, Samson, Adams and Michaels. They had a prison escape on Devlin.” I nodded and stood, “How many?” He shook his head, “Nine.” I grabbed my bag and started towards the lifts. The other marshals followed me as I dropped to dispersing. We had a four hour wait in the starport before boarding a shuttle up to the cargo transport that was headed to Devlin. There were only a few...

The state cable news network called me at the motel but on my cell phone. It wasn't the man from the crash, it was a chick who claimed to be his producer. It looked to me as though they were trying to be a real news agency. "Hi there, you are Deputy Sylvia Porter?" she asked. "I am. Who might you be?" I asked. That's when I found out about the producer thing, "So what can I do for you Miss Producer." I didn't even bother to file her name into my short term memory. I didn't expect...

The Johnson/Goodall family had been in Sacramento for just over three weeks and they were already on their way to becoming "rich." Eddy had collected $56.25 in wages as a deputy marshal and their company had collected $300 for delivering heavy freight more quickly than the customer had expected. Eddy had already been contacted by potential customers for other jobs which they were now ready to handle. Over the next week, Jeb and Josh earned $53 for moving a load across town in two trips and...

The state had pulled my certification. Without it I was unemployable, even as a game warden. That really hurt, not that I really wanted to back to being a rabbit police person. Even if I found a small town police force that wanted me, they could hire me without that certification. I could bring an action against the state but if the damage to my hand proved to be long term, I would lose. I doubted that any court anywhere would force them to do any more than make a monetary settlement with...

"I looked, but I couldn't find the interview with her lawyer anywhere," I admitted. "She says we offered to forget her attempted escape, if she had sex with us." Simpson said. "It's not believable that we conspired to have sex with her," I said. "I wouldn't worry about it. I'm going to tell the truth which should remove any suspicion of criminal activity. I hadn't planned to mention the escape attempt at all, but appears I'm going to have to do it." "Yeah, I agree. Just try...

The room was warm and it really felt good. I had been standing out in the cold wearing just my running suit and the light parka for well over two hours. I made short work of stripping off the running suit and hanging it on racks to dry. After that little domestic chore, it was on to the hot shower. I also washed my new peach fuzz of course. I was dressed in a clean uniform and in the office well before nine. I didn't think that was too bad, since I had been waylaid for quite some time. "So...

The well dressed business man walked into Hardee's just as I sat down to review my tape from the night before. More importantly to me was the last three hours. I was occupied so even though I noticed him walk in the place, I didn't keep track of him. When he sat down at the table I paid a lot more attention to him. "So are you Randal Davis king maker or one of his flunkies?" I asked. "You know, if I wasn't Randal you really would have pissed me off with the flunky comment," he...

My last night on swing shift was a bust. Even so I slept till noon the next day. When I awoke I took a shower, then dressed in my jeans and one of my forest green tee shirt. I wore one of the several men's white dress shirts over it. I also clipped the off duty holster onto my belt before I slipped on the medium weight parka type field jacket. I looked up as the commander walked out of his office. It was late Sunday evening and I had used the time that day to get over my various pains. It had been an interesting experience and now I that I had rested, I was a little less terrified. I was however still very concerned. I knew that I would have just to wait to see. The waiting would be hard but at least it wouldn't be forever. The shelf life of an amateur sex video was very short. Deputy Done Wrong

From my vantage point behind the low line of brush I watched the approaching vehicle. It was moving along pretty good and I flipped the switch on the remote in my lap, activating the radar gun mounted on my dash. It was a high tech unit, one of the latest on the market, and it automatically recorded the highest speed of the oncoming car. Good thing too, as the driver obviously was in possession of a "fuzz buster" since the nose of the car came down as the driver hit the brakes hard. I...

Yeah I felt like a dumb ass while I waited the hours in a cold house for the emergency delivery of propane. I could have brought the small commercial cooking burner in the house to get some heat, but I chose to heat the small box in front with a ceramic electric heater. By the time I got to my room it was 5AM. Some of the state highway workers, who stayed at the Motel, had already begun to stir. Retirement

Retirement By Margaret Jeanette Bill Riggens was a happy man. He had one more week to work then he would be retired. At supper on Friday night he told Sarah, his wife, that the forty-five years had actually went pretty fast. He also told her the meat was a little overdone. He was always complaining about her cooking. She didn't say anything but knew he would soon be talking different. She saw him itch his breast and smiled to herself. It was late and I still had several reports to review and four requests to decide on. I glanced at the door when a dragon flew in and landed on a chair back. I sat back and then grinned, “It has been a long time Samantha.” The dragon chirped and was answered by her mother on her nest. I looked at the door as an older Cambra walked through it and she grinned, “Hey kid moving up.” I came to my feet and moved around the desk and caught her in a hug. I stepped back, “Where have you been?” She...

Deputy PorterChapter 35

I went home and worried. I had no way to tell who knew what, so all I could do was act like everything was normal. If I were a Los Vegas Odds maker, I would make it about 3 to 1 in my favor. I wasn't trying to be optimistic there were just so many thing that had to go wrong to get me busted. I had the Boyle brother's phone number and I could call, but I swore I would never contact them again. So I would have to wait till tomorrow at work, when I could pin those in the raid down. My chance...

Deputy MarshalChapter 8

Deputy Marshal Zack Wilson walked into The Silver Dollar Saloon the same way he did every night if was his turn to make the nightly rounds. He went up to the bar and said hello to Jim Hanson the bartender and owner. "How's it going tonight, Jim?" "Oh, 'bout the same as usual. There's a few miners here I ain't never seen afore, but they've been mostly quiet and drinking their beer. OH, SHIT! LOOK OUT, ZACK!" Jim grabbed Zack's arm and jerked him to one side as a thrown knife whizzed...

Retirement

RETIREMENT– by SENORLONGO ©2015. This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance between characters in this story and real persons is strictly coincidental and unintentional. Like most of my stories, this one contains elements that could fall into numerous categories such as Loving Wives and BDSM on Literotica. Normally I would split this story into segments to make it easier to read, but if I did that I’d hear from too many readers that Part 1 should be in ‘Loving Wives.’ However, if you look at...

Deputy PorterChapter 102

Rodney and I settled in to wait for the boss, or at least the rental boss. I had time to assess Rodney in full daylight. He walked with just a slight almost unnoticeable limp. He was not quite six foot tall and probably one hundred and eighty pounds. He was the color of coffee with just a touch of cream. There was some white in his gene pool for sure. His hair was too short to be in the least curly. As I think I said earlier he looked like he might have been a gym rat. Joan Pacer arrived...

Deputy PorterChapter 150

"Look Sylvie, we have to make this look convincing. We want whoever is bugging you to think I'm an old boyfriend," He said it quietly over his beer. "Exactly how far to you think I am going to carry this charade?" I asked. "That depends on how bad you want to know who is bugging you. Believe me I don't want to be here. I have better things to do with my time, don't I?" he said. "Look that cockney accent is going to wear thin in about an hour. I have heard you speak with hardly...

Deputy PorterChapter 171

I rode the bike on Friday for two hours. As I had begun to do lately, I went to the Cafe on the Square for breakfast. There was usually a deputy or two there, and since Mary Ellen was a local business women, she was a topic of conversation around there. Even if there were no cops, there was always some news that someone had gotten from a cop. The latest thing was the cops thought they might have a good lead. I thought, if the lead is the camera men, it was about fucking time. I said nothing....

Deputy PorterChapter 201

"I swear to you Sylvia I don't understand why people are buying that stuff. I don't like the taste of it and I don't like the quick high I get from it." The Brit said. "I know, hun but people don't always make sense. As a matter of fact the one thing you can count on when dealing with people, is that they will all act irrationally at some point." I said. "Yeah, that is true enough. So what's the thrill?" The Brit asked. "Jim says it's designer drugs. Something nobody else has....

Deputy PorterChapter 224

Jeremy was working on the catered meal. "We were calling it a counter rally. A political rally with barbecue and no politics. It was a hell of an idea, even if it was mine. While he did that I went back to thinking about a new car of some kind. The cruiser really was breaking down a bunch, and that meant a tow bill just about every time. Fortunately the breakdown had been during daylight and in area's with cell phone coverage. I was worried that it might not always be so cooperative. I...

Deputy PorterChapter 231

When I woke up, it was the next morning and Juanita the pubs only female employee was standing beside me. "Miss Sylvia is there anything I can get for you." "To be honest I could use some pain killers, and a cup of coffee," I said. "What kind of pain killers?" she asked. Get me some Tylenol extra strength and some Aleve,"I said. "Mostly honey, I really want coffee." "I will bring that and send Jeremy for the drugs," she said. She was back with the coffee and the Tylenol almost...

Deputy PorterChapter 6

"Why on earth would I do that?" I asked. "Because, they tell me I'm good company for one thing. For another you have to eat anyway, and I would pay," he said. "Of course you would pay, that goes without saying, but I think I will pass. You can try again some other time. Right now I have too much on my mind." I said. "Come on, I did some checking. You don't have a boy friend and you live in a motel. You can surely make time for one dinner with a new friend," he demanded. "Maybe...

Deputy PorterChapter 11

I arrived back at the motel, two hundred miles from my home town at four in the morning. I was exhausted, but more concerned with my mom's feeling than anything else. It wasn't the first time in my life that I was awake at 4AM. Since there was nothing I could do to help mom at 4AM, I fell into bed and at least tried to sleep. The ringing of the room phone woke me. My cell phone couldn't ring because it was turned off. I had even taken the battery out, so that I wouldn't be disturbed at...

Deputy PorterChapter 12

"So go home and get some sleep. You look like hell," Webster staid. "Gee thanks, I needed to hear that. However after five hours sleep, it isn't unexpected," I said. "Then don't stand here searching for compliments, go home and sleep. You have tonight off anyway, so when I see you tomorrow at noon for your 7AM shift, I expect you to look your normal gorgeous self," Webster added. "I'm only gorgeous because you are comparing me to the likes of Simpson," I said with a smile. "I...

Deputy PorterChapter 15

From the DA's office we went to the local Rainbow Steakhouse. Simpson convinced me to carry a couple of burgers and fries to the jail. We delivered the approved paperwork, which we hand carried through the building to the office of the head jailer. While the staff made their checks and balances, I ate a McDouble and fries. That and a canned coke from the machine in the hallway was lunch for both of us. It wasn't my favorite meal, but I also didn't feel that I had been punished. I sat...

Deputy PorterChapter 22

I was right, there was no one as cool as Lieutenant Bullet in the Motel lounge that Saturday night. I really might not have been in any shape for a new man anyway. I sat gingerly and tried not to squirm in my seat. In other words my rectum was a wreck. I went to bed after my lounge walk through, even though I had only been awake a few hours. Again I slept like I had been drugged. Hell who knows with that crowd, I might have been drugged. Sunday morning when I woke up it was all better. My...

Deputy MorpheusChapter 9 Escorting a Ghost

Amanda and her companion Cynthia were out hunting a fugitive and I was stuck doing paperwork. In fact I was the only one still here. I glanced at the comm when the holo of commissioner Drake appeared and sat back, “Sir.” He looked tired, “I was told you are the only marshal left. I need you to do an escort. She is already there but needs an escort for her next stop.” I nodded, “Name?” He snorted, “Good question. She is not in any system but works for us in ... private. Escort her to Hades...

Deputy PorterChapter 24

I drove the Toyota to the grocery store just a few blocks away. I might have walked but I wanted to buy a few things. With the microwave oven and a little planning I could cook almost a full meal. Of course that was not my plan. I found that I could store about three frozen meals in my apartment sized freezer unit. Since the motel had an ice machine just outside my door, I could use all the freezer space for frozen dinners. That ice machine as well as the lounge walk through was why I got...

Deputy MorpheusChapter 16 Pirates

I glanced at the door when Simon stopped in it. He smiled and leaned against the frame, “I have a mission for you.” I sat back and pushed the data films away as I reached for my ready bag, “Tell me it is off world.” He laughed and nodded his head, “A prisoner transfer to Graham.” I stood as Dragon leaped from her perch and flew towards me, “Let Amanda know I went out?” He chuckled, “She is down in dispersing getting your vouchers.” I stopped when I reached him and sighed, “Simon...” He...

Deputy PorterChapter 28

"I'll be your snitch if you be my bitch," Monk said once he got me to a table away from everyone else. "You have to be out of your mind," I said. "First of all I don't know you, and second it's against every rule and standard of conduct. So no way." "Well at least think about it and I'll give you something as a show of good faith. You want to know if Gypsy was selling her ass, well she wasn't." Monk said. "I still think she was. You might not have known it, but I am pretty...

Deputy PorterChapter 36

I slept pretty good all in all. I attributed it to exhaustion as much as anything. 5AM came early on the last day of my day shift. I still had to force myself to run, even thought it was just a few degrees warmer, which make me feel a little better. Spring was on the way, thank god. It could not get here soon enough for me. It had been a dismal winter. I didn't stop in the cafe again that morning. It was time to give some though to breakfast again. I had already started to lose the weight I...

I had no idea what they really thought of all the increased work I caused them. I know the district attorney, who was responsible for our cases. called me in before she arraigned the pot case of mine. The one with the survivalist and the grower from down east... "Well Deputy Porter, we are going to trial with a pretty good case. The girl tuned on everyone in the county it seems," she said. "Actually most of the buyers were outside the country. There are only two county residents," I...

Deputy PorterChapter 45

On the way home Angel stopped at the drug store for a prescription of Vicodin. I was expecting significant pain for a while longer. That expectation was based on the doctors warnings. "Take it easy and don't go back to work before you are releases, You are going to have some pain for a while." I was already having some pain when I moved, If it got worse without the hospitals big time drugs, I was going to be in a fix. I had Angel make one more stop on the way home. She went through the...
