"I'm glad, Pippa. I wanted to be good for you and I was scared I just didn't have the experience."
"No, but you had the ... love. Thoughtful, caring and gentle. I want to kiss you, but I'll have morning breath."
"Don't care." The resulting kiss delayed their getting out of bed by several more minutes.
Pippa was first to the saloon, grateful Cherry didn't comment on her blush. Pippa wondered what was going on behind Nadiya's neutral expression, but was soon more interested in the breakfast Nadiya placed in front of her ... until CC appeared. She looked up, caught his eye, smiled and blushed hotly. Cherry suppressed a giggle, but not very effectively, and CC blushed too, but managed to take his place at the table with some dignity.
"So..." Cherry's lips were twitching as she spoke, "you slept well, then, Pippa?"
Pippa chewed slowly and swallowed before replying evenly, "Very well, thank you, Skipper."
"Good, good. And yourself, CC?"
CC thought for a moment and took a sip of coffee before replying. "I had a very good night, thank you, Skipper."
Cherry snorted and muttered 'I bet' under her breath, but not so quietly Pippa and CC couldn't hear. Then she turned serious. "I don't think we'll be going anywhere today, with winds gusting up to gale force. Serendipity would be fine, but I just don't see the point. We're sheltered here, and safe enough. I was thinking, Pippa, you might like to make some more of that bread. Nadiya was saying she'd like to learn to do it, too."
Pippa shrugged. "Sure. Why not? It'll take all day, though, in small bursts."
"We've got all day. I daresay we can find things to do whilst not cooking..."
Pippa coloured slightly and resisted looking at CC, whose voice was steady as he asked Cherry, "Was there anything around the boat that needs doing, Skipper?"
Cherry shook her head, "We'll take a look round, but I don't think so ... other than polishing the brasswork, of course."
'Shelter' is a relative term at sea. The relatively low-lying island was not a major obstacle to the wind, but it did mean the water was relatively calm and limited the effect on the anchored yacht. Cherry and CC were battered by the wind as they worked their way round the deck, examining each fitting, line or shackle. When they eventually made their way below again, they were pink-faced and ready for a hot drink.
Whilst the Skipper and CC were doing their thing on deck, Pippa was showing Nadiya how to prepare black bread; it would be an all-day process. She explained what she was doing and what would be necessary later, finding Nadiya following her words better than she had expected. Having reached a stopping point with the bread, they worked together to make soup and get it cooking, then made coffee – tea for Nadiya – and sat together to drink it.
"What was it like?"
Pippa was taken aback by Nadiya's question. "What?"

"Be sure I'll tell you if I think you are."
