The Prison Planet

By the time they were almost back from the third, half-mile trip to dispose of the remains of the snow leopard, the sun was setting and an uneasy Morales was pushing them to get back to the cave. Although it wasn’t snowing, the gusts of wind picked up the dry, powder snow, blowing it almost horizontally to lash at their faces.

When they arrived at the cave, everyone was tired. Morales turned to Jasmine, “I’m going to wipe the case down so I can get the blood off outside. Why don’t you go on inside and get out of this wind?” Before she could protest, he quickly continued, “You might want to change out of those blood-soaked clothes while you have the opportunity. I’ll change after I get the case taken care of.” Glancing down at his filthy pants, he went on, “I’m gonna need to do some laundry, soon. I only have one clean set of fatigues left. How about you?”

Jasmine realized that her fatigues weren’t in much better shape than his. “I have three sets left, but I don’t want to use everything before I do my laundry.”

“Well, it’s a bitch washing clothes in a bucket, but with the stream frozen, that’s the only option we have left.”

She grinned, but didn’t respond other than to say, “See you inside.”

Back in the cave, she wiped her coat down, washed off and quickly changed, but, like before, she went commando – at least on the top half – telling herself it would soon be bedtime, anyway. Hesitating, she thought about leaving her shirt open until he walked in, and thus giving him a flash of her boobs, but quickly stilled the thought. What’s the matter with you? Tempt him enough and you might well be in over your head before you realize it, Girl.

Fully dressed, she added wood to the fire before beginning their evening meal, and by the time Morales pulled the cleaned case into the cave, she was well involved in the meal’s preparation despite her fatigue.

After cleaning his coat and washing his hands and arms, Morales gathered up clean fatigues. Although the fire kept their living area reasonably warm, at least compared to the outside, the warmth diminished quickly the farther from the fire they got. When Jasmine realized that Morales intended going on farther into the cave to change, she turned to him. “No use your doing that; I promise I won’t peek,” she said while trying to keep the smirk out of her voice.

She lied.

When she heard his thick fatigue shirt hit the dirt floor of the cave, she “instinctively” glanced in that direction. She shouldn’t have, because what she saw made her stomach flutter just as her other brief glance had, and her thoughts turned to things she didn’t want to think about while in the field – or in a cave with a prisoner. But the ripple of muscles across his chest and arms as he reached for a clean shirt was burned into her mind, nonetheless. Oh, crap. His physique is every bit as nice as I remembered, and his flexing muscles make me wet. Snapping her eyes away, Think of something else. Think of something else, she kept telling herself. He’s already told you how hyper his sense of smell has become. You’re only ten feet away, and you’re getting turned on with just that one quick look. Calm down, before he notices, Woman.

Junior, apparently still not fully trusting Jasmine, seemed to have taken longer to adjust to her presence than Gertrude had, and seldom came near. He had continued to sleep with Morales, though, and now that the chick was bigger, he could fly to the man’s shoulder at will, which he chose to do just then. Morales was dressing and thus moving as the chick came in for a landing, winding up sinking his clawed feet into Morales’ neck to keep from sliding off the human’s shoulder.

“Oh, shit,” Morales muttered. But rather than scold the chick, he, instead, petted it.

Morales’ comment caused Jasmine to, unintentionally, this time, glance toward him just as he dropped his pants. He wasn’t wearing undershorts, and when her eyes focused on his equipment, her heart seemed to do a stutter-beat, and she unconsciously mimicked his comment with a whispered, “Oh, shit.” What she said wasn’t loud, but they were inside a cave with no competing noise. In addition, it had become automatic for the man to listen for danger as well as use his sense of smell, particularly when he and the wolves were outside. But those now hyper senses didn’t shut off when he wasn’t thinking about them, so he very distinctly heard her. His head snapped up as she, too late, quickly turned her gaze back to what she was supposed to be doing.

She could feel the flush on her face and hoped against hope that he hadn’t heard her exclamation or realized she had looked.

Eventually, he walked over as she tried to say, nonchalantly, “Uh, I think we need to expand our diet a bit. I know that you prepare a stew occasionally, but we should probably increase the ingredients a little. If you don’t mind, I’ll fix one for lunch tomorrow that should give us a change in our diet.” Then, before she quite realized that she was going to say it, continued. “I apologize for looking. It was just that...”

Chuckling, Morales, deliberately misinterpreting her meaning, said, “That silly little chicken hasn’t quite got the flying thing down pat, particularly his landings. That’s not the only time he’s ricocheted off my shoulder and clung to my neck or head when he’s misjudged his touchdown. All he thinks about is saving himself, and he doesn’t seem to realize that he’s sticking his claws into me in the process.”

Jasmine smiled, thankful that they had apparently gotten past her checking him out, but her face didn’t seem to realize it yet. Trying to ignore her blush, she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “How did you ever begin sleeping with a chicken?” Only after the question was out of her mouth did she realize how blunt it sounded. Then, “Oops. That didn’t come out very tactfully, did it?”

Morales sat on a rock to lace his boots. Looking up at her, “I know. I know,” he replied with a self-depreciating chuckle. “It’s stupid to sleep with a chicken, but, well ... I was alone, and as far as I knew, was destined to be that way the rest of my life. When there aren’t any humans to be friends with, well ... I suppose that animals are next in line.” Unconsciously shaking his head, he went on, “You have to remember that these chickens, like the wolves, are far smarter than their counterparts on Earth. Like I said, I fussed at Gertrude just once, and showed her where to sh ... uh, potty. From then on, she did her thing on what became the manure pile, and even made sure her chicks and the other hens did too. Anyway, I usually throw a shovelful of loose dirt on it a couple of times a day to keep the smell down.

“Every few days, I put the manure in a pile outside with the idea that I’ll use it on a garden plot come spring. As far as the training goes, I doubt if Earth chickens could be trained that easily, and, certainly, one hen wouldn’t take it upon herself to train all the other chickens the way Gertrude has. But, that silly little chicken must have imprinted on me. I think that’s the word. He followed me around, and, because he was cute and always hungry, I, of course, fed him extra. Then, no matter what I did, he came over and snuggled up to me at night. At first, Gertrude tried to get him under her wings like the other chicks, but he was having none of that. As he grows, he continues to follow me around. And, yeah, I know that it’s stupid to have a pet chicken, but what the hell...”

When Jasmine giggled, he went on with a grin, “Like I said, the animals are smart as hell here. I’ve mentioned that Gertrude reminds me of a drill Sergeant – and a rather violent one at that. She taught the other hens where to do their business by kicking their asses until I actually began to feel sorry for them, but after her first major set-to with them, they have never messed up again, although for a while she kept an eye on them. I think they’re terrified to piss her off. Even I know that Earth chickens don’t do things like that.”

Jasmine got up to pour both of them coffee and check her cooking. When she was seated again and they had taken their first sips, “On the vids, I’ve seen Gertrude leading the other chickens back from your fenced area. I have to admit that she’s cute as she struts along in front of her little procession. And she did all this on her own?”

He shrugged. “I’ve never tried to teach the chickens anything, well, other than fussing at Gertrude and showing her where to poop. And, well, you know about Lobo and Lila; they go out to use the bathroom, and they’ve never needed any training at all. From the beginning, they just knew. Hell, from the time Lobo was well enough to go to the fields or hunting with me, he’s just picked up on what I need him to do. When you get down to it, I suppose, it’s as much about him training me as the other way around.”

Morales words cut off as his thoughts turned inward. Jasmine saw the look on his face and sat quietly sipping her coffee while his mind seemed to go elsewhere. When his eyes focused on her again, “Care to share with me?” she asked, teasingly. Noticing the frown start, she went quickly on, “Please, I’ll never understand how you communicate if you don’t let me in on your private thoughts about Lobo.”

Morales stared the pretty young woman eye to eye for a moment before pushing out a long breath. “If I knew, I’d tell you. I haven’t lied about that, but ... a thought crossed my mind when I mentioned that it was as much about his training me as the other way around...”

“Go on,” she encouraged.

He took another sip of coffee, then locked eyes with her as he said, “Well, it just dawned on me that, over time, I’ve ... Oh, hell, Woman, it...” he finished, seeming to have second thoughts about whatever he was going to say.

“Mr. Morales, don’t you dare back out on me now,” she hissed out.

“Okay. Okay. But, dammit, it’s hard to explain. I mean, when I first came here, I clumped through the area scaring everything off long before I got within range. Well, scaring them off or alerting them. Some of the animals here aren’t afraid of anything. Anyway, I came up with the idea of first bathing, then rubbing myself with some evil-smelling shrubs, before climbing a tree to wait on something to come near that I could shoot for meat. I guess I got the idea by seeing advertisements back on Earth about tree stands for hunters, and also other advertisements about scents to cover the hunter’s body odor, or to make him smell like a female deer – things like that.

“Anyway, it worked well enough that I didn’t starve, but truth be told, I would probably have lost a lot of weight if there hadn’t been so many animals here. But the strange part, the thing that just dawned on me, is that somewhere along the line after Lobo came on the scene, I began to know how to place my feet, where I could put them that would make the least noise, how to push through bushes without making them rustle, how to shift my weight, all the things that should have taken a lifetime to learn. I know this sounds stupid, but it was just now that I realized I shouldn’t have that knowledge yet. Maybe ten years from now if I manage to live, but some things have just come... ‘naturally’ that I have taken for granted, I suppose.”

He sat staring at his half-full coffee cup, while Jasmine dared not make a sound lest he change his mind about talking to her. Finally, he looked up at her. “Do you understand what I’m telling you? I walk quieter just strolling along than I used to be able to do when I concentrated on trying to be quiet, and I do it without even thinking about it. When Lobo, Lila and I stalk something, I’m able to be far quieter than I have any right to be. Oh, compared to them, I just blunder along, but until I met Lobo, I was more like a tank crashing through the forest. Until you got me thinking, I hadn’t realized just how much I have changed, and trust me, I don’t understand how I’ve learned it.”

Jasmine took another sip of her coffee, realizing that it was now cold, but she drank it, anyway, not wanting to get up for more and risk breaking the mood.

“So, how?” she prompted.

“Hell, Woman, I don’t know. I suppose I’ve learned from Lobo and now Lila. Somehow, someway, they have taught me ... things. I mean ... now that I think about it, I know how to move through the woods under certain circumstances, but I can’t put the concept into words, at least, not enough to break it into logical sentences. It’s almost like ... Hell, I don’t know, maybe like instinct or something similar. I mean, I know how to swallow,” he said, holding the cup up, “but I damn sure don’t know how to describe the swallowing process. I’m sure a doctor could, but I can’t. I know how to move through the woods, but trying to break it down and tell you how is a different thing entirely. I just ... I just don’t have the words to fit the concepts. I guess I don’t have enough education to communicate what I need to,” he finished, morosely.

“Don’t you dare think that way,” she admonished as she bumped his arm, causing him to almost spill the remains of his coffee.

Darnit, she thought yet again. I wish I had concentrated on Cultural. Maybe I would know how to go from here.

After checking their food, putting more water in the peas and moving the boiler closer to the fire, she sat beside him, Morales on his padded rock, Jasmine sitting in the dirt, their backs against the cave wall, her smile beautiful to him. “Thank you for sharing that, Mr. Morales. Your communication with Lobo and Lila is what mainly enticed me to come here. So, please, don’t lock me out. I know that we can solve the puzzle if we work on it together. The two wolves obey you...” she started, but when his expression began to change and he shook his head, “Okay, the two of them do what needs to be done.”

Morales downed the remainder of his coffee. Slinging out the last few drops from the cup as he came to his feet, “Lobo and I are a team, and Lila has become a part of that team. I trust her just like I do him.”

So how the heck do I become part of that team? Jasmine wondered as she watched him go over and put his cup up.

The peas were done as Morales put the big skillet over the fire before putting in a dollop of lard. As soon as it melted, he tilted the skillet around until the liquid uniformly covered the bottom. After salting the steaks, he put the meat in to cook. Glancing at her, he let out a sigh. “Okay, you keep asking about our communication, so here it is. When the wolves came back from checking this morning, Lobo sat down in front of me and I just knew. Maybe it’s because we have worked together so many times that I just know his habits. I knew that he and Lila would check out the back trail of the beast, and I knew they would search for a second snow leopard or whatever the hell that thing was. You thought there was something else going on, but it might have been just that simple.”

A look of exasperation deepened on Jasmine’s face as she stared at him. “Oh, no you don’t. Not after what you just said. You know there was more to it than that. Why did he come and sit in front of you like that? Not only did he do that, but he stared up at you. That’s not just your knowing what he would do under similar circumstances. It just isn’t. And ... why do you continue to deny it? You just said that somehow you knew how to walk silently in the woods, and darnit, I saw him report to you. I know he did, and you know it, too.”

Morales checked the steaks, then turned them over before turning back to Jasmine. “Don’t make me out to be a mind reader, telepath, or whatever the hell you’re trying to call it. I’m just a guy who was forced to depend on the wolves for protection, and to some extent, me for them, too. In other words, we depend on each other. I can’t explain how I know how to move quietly through the woods, or how I know what Lobo and Lila did this morning. Maybe it’s because we do everything together. We know each other. Maybe there’s no mystery after all – just association.” And I don’t need a deluge of scientist types descending on my ass wanting me to teach them how to mind read, he thought. Particularly when I don’t fucking know how it happens in the first place.

Arlene Ch 2

This story illustrates a risk of sex under hypnosis. It could be called rape. This story builds on ‘Arlene Gets Hypnotized,’ my previous story. * * * * * I was sitting in my office at the University when Arlene walked into my open office. ‘Professor, are you busy?’ I probably was, but Arlene was a delight to look at and to have around. Especially to a 58 year old psychology professor who was pretty much reduced to dreaming about what had been and might have been. ‘Well, I was deep in...

Arlene and JeffChapter 22

At eight on the dot, he carried a laughing Jennie into an instantly quiet kitchen. Still in his arms, Jennie kissed him. Turning to the other wives, she gave the proclamation, "I'm full of come," then followed with, "but ... I'm broken." That started the usual scramble, but they had the pussy cream in the kitchen this time, and Jeff insisted that he carry her to the hot tub. He kissed her tenderly, then was shooed away by Diana, who kissed him and whispered. "That glow on her face...

Arlene and JeffChapter 712

The Retreat Arlene and Ann finally managed to get Jeff reasonably alone for a couple of minutes. After kissing him passionately, Arlene transferred Little One to the Prime’s shoulder, where she made her way under his collar to her usual resting place spread across his back. As soon as she had settled in, he told her how much he loved and missed her before giving her a brief account of the trip. Little One told him how much she missed him and shared the happenings in Germany. All of this was...

Arlene and JeffChapter 117

THE RETREAT: LATE THURSDAY NIGHT Arlene and Selina sat on Selina's bed, their backs propped against pillows as they played with Billy. Arlene slid her hand back and forth under the sheet as Billy pretended to stalk a terribly dangerous prey. He held his body and his head very close to the bed, occasionally lifting his head slightly to peek at his target, the tip of his tail twitching continuously. Then, he would jump as high as he could, coming down on Arlene's hand, tussling with it...

A shaking of Ann's shoulder accompanied a discordant buzz from her watch. "Plebe, you have thirty minutes to shower, dress and get to your first class. You don't have time for breakfast today, so ask the AI for a couple of energy bars." Ann, bleary-eyed, shut her alarm off and swung her legs out of her bed as the Class Lieutenant, already immaculately clad in her uniform, stepped back to give the smaller girl room to stand. "Thanks, Arlene," Ann mumbled as she came to her feet and...

The Mission Hours later, Arlene and Ann, tired, eased to the edge of a high rock bluff overlooking the massive power station in the distance. “Well, they sure don’t bother to conserve energy, at least with their lights,” Arlene sarcastically remarked as they stared at the brilliantly lit station. Worried that they might be discovered, both young women had employed their sensors over the edge to gather information before proceeding with their mission. “Just how are we supposed to get from...

The women had pushed the two kitchen tables together. Frank Wainwright stood looking at them as Jeff, Kayla, and Diana came in. "We either need to get a bigger table in here, or start eating in the dining room." "Bigger table," Jeff and Diana said at almost the same time. "The dining room is too formal," Diana continued. "We want to be a family, and with all of us for three meals a day, it's a lot easier to serve in here than taking the food into the dining room. The kitchen is...

Ship ...”We were still here all the time?” Kathy got out with amazement. “Ann told me that Ship’s training was very realistic, but this is beyond...” she finished as her voice trailed off. Bill automatically put an arm about his wife as he cast a look around the room. “Arlene and Ann had something they needed to do, but they will meet you in the lounge,” Ship told them. Bill, Kathy, Arlene Ann and the two crews that had flown the training mission with them were all sitting around a big...

During breakfast in the dining room, Diana stood and tapped a spoon on her orange juice glass. When the room quieted, "Most of you already know, but for the ones who don't, Frank, Margaret, Tina, Bill, Kathy and Jill will be back from the island this morning. The Retreat ... The Sheriff and his family had left. Jeff and Joe Martin were sitting in the living room talking while the women had gone somewhere, probably to the bathroom. “So, how’s the honeymoon going?” Jeff, at a loss for a topic, asked uncomfortably, not wanting to get into the subject that he thought Arlene should take care of. “Great. I’m still amazed that she actually married me. Sir, the woman brought some polish along and polished her wedding ring – a brand-new wedding ring. I...

... Ann raised a foot from the muck to shake off something that wiggled and flopped about as it tried to use its teeth and suckers on the near-impervious suit. But the skin suit sluffed off the creature’s actions without much notice, and she stomped it into the muck. A few minutes later, they were out of the water and on a long peninsula of muddy land that extended partway through the swamp. Tired, the two stopped for a breather. Turning, Ann started to make a comment, but instead screamed...

We’re almost there.” “Chances are that very shortly we’re going to be brain dead for real,” Ann quietly said as she began yet another check of their systems. A few minutes later, they came to a halt in water no more than fifty feet deep. “I don’t see any signs of our intruder on my screen. How about yours?” Ann shook her head, then realized that...

The Waterfall Campsite ... Dessie straightened up and stared at Ann. “I have eaten pheasant, fish and rabbit until they’re practically coming out my ears. I’ve had MREs while backpacking and wasn’t in love with them all that much, but I think I would love some now, no matter what the meal consists of.” “We have an assortment. I noticed a Brisket Entreé, Chicken something or other, and a Beef Stew, with whatever goes with them, and several more besides. We just grabbed some at random in...

Arlene and JeffChapter 255

JUST OUTSIDE A SMALL NORTHWESTERN TOWN Once again Nichols sat worrying in front of his boss' elegant desk. Rich, wealthy, words don't describe the extreme category the older man fit into. Nor can you describe how evil this man is either, Nichols thought, his face devoid of expression as he waited for Mr. Moreau to end his phone call. Nichols dreaded that. When the call ended, Moreau would ask questions that Nichols didn't have acceptable answers to. The town council members think Moreau...

Arlene and JeffChapter 122

Jeff, Diana, Dave and Evie sat in the living room, waiting. When the phone rang, Diana checked the caller ID and answered. "Glad you guys are back." "Diana, I..." The voice chopped off, then Carla cleared her throat and tried again. "Diana, our dreams..." Carla's voice stopped again, to be replaced by quiet sobs of joy. "I can't..." "You just did," Diana said softly. "You're on speaker, so all of us can hear you. Jeff, Dave and Evie are here with me and listening. And, you're...

...”See that tree that has the broken limb hanging down?” “Yes,” Aiko gasped out. “We’ll jog to it, then we will walk for a hundred steps.” “I don’t know...” “Yes, you do. You know you can. I’ll bet it’s even less than a hundred steps. Let’s count them,” she finished as she began counting their steps aloud while they slow-jogged. Soon Aiko added her voice. “Ninety-two. Told you it was less than a hundred. Now we’ll walk for a hundred steps, and rested or not, we will jog starting at...

Arlene and JeffChapter 374

The Retreat As Charlotte and Diana sat at the bar in the kitchen watching the other women, Selina stopped by. "Want to help?" the little genius asked the young woman. Worried, Charlotte answered, "Everything is happening so fast that I barely know what's going on." "Oh, you will get used to that," Selina said as she reached for Charlotte's hand. "Well, I'll be glad to help if I can." Charlotte glanced at Diana, who nodded with a smile. "No better way than to just dive...

Arlene and JeffChapter 220

They were high up and soon over the ocean, having left the continent behind. They passed the terminator and continued into night, still headed west, the myriad lights of the cities twinkling as the Earth seemed to slowly spin below. But before the view could become boring – if it ever could -- the horizon seemed to shift downward on the big screen as the Ship gradually pointed her nose away from the planet, the full moon drifting down toward the center of the viewscreen. There was a...

Arlene and JeffChapter 276

Jeff met with Kei, Edi and Alesha on the updated design that they were working on for the new ski lodge, then stopped off in the living room to watch the late news before eventually winding up in his suite. After a shower where he "played" with Jennie and Melissa, he walked into a strangely quiet bedroom. Looking around, he began to wonder. "What?" he asked, then suddenly it hit him, "Where's Ann?" Arlene caught his eye. "We've looked for her, and she's not anywhere in the Retreat....

The Castle ...”Certainly,” Arlene responded, “but please don’t either of you touch it. The AI can become quite persnickety, and he has the means to back up his displeasure.” “You have a functioning artificial intelligence?” Karl asked. “Please don’t mention it around him. I think he is trying to find a way to become a citizen,” Arlene returned with a chuckle. “Uh, I won’t,” Karl responded, not quite sure if Arlene were kidding or not. Both Karl and Fischer thanked Arlene and hurried off...

Arlene and JeffChapter 228

Jeff had stopped by his office to pick up a few pieces of printer paper. Alone in the living room a couple of minutes later, he wadded up a sheet of the paper into a loose ball. If I screw up with this paper ball, air resistance, if nothing else, should keep its flight slow enough to prevent me from tearing up things. With Arlene's encouragement while on the Ship's range, he had gained a small measure of expertise as he mentally moved a steel ball around and caused it to spin, but he still...

Arlene and JeffChapter 412

The Mission ... Both were tempted to use their suits’ drive units, but they knew that would alert the Throme if anything would. Scrambling down, they were soon in the water. A hundred meters out, they saw a glint of movement coming toward them just under the surface. “Let’s go home,” Arlene said to her partner. As soon as the hatch closed and even before they were out of the airlock, the AI had them moving away from land. “Oh, I so want to get out of this suit,” Arlene grumped a few...

Arlene and JeffChapter 238

The Retreat Shortly after lunch, Arlene went out to the Ship expecting to sit in one of the command couches and be swept away by the simulator to another very realistic space battle, but she froze as soon as she passed through the hatch. Jeff had called Kayla and Art to his office, intending to ask them to begin training in the Ship's simulator. Before he could begin, the AI turned the TV on to show Arlene jogging back from the Ship. The AI didn't say anything, but apparently thought...

Arlene and JeffChapter 696

The Retreat After breakfast, Arlene, Ann and Selina gathered enough food to last them the rest of the day. “Should this not be the correct castle and we continue the search, we will need something to drink with our lunch,” Selina said as she opened a refrigerator. “There is water available at each station on the interceptor. As for soft drinks, please bring only what you are sure you will drink. Storage space is at a premium,” Arlene told the seven-year-old. “Bathroom?” Selina asked as...

Arlene and JeffChapter 82

Jeff had just dialed his next door neighbor who lived a mile down the road. "Steve Sperman here." "Hi Mr. Sperman. This is Jeff. How's it going?" "Hmmm. Didn't we have a discussion about that Mr. thing?" Jeff chuckled. "Yeah, I guess we did, Steve. How's Marcie doing?" There was a hesitation. "You know, that's a funny thing, like I mentioned before. Seems like after the night we spent at your place, ol' Uncle Arthur (arthritis) suddenly got much better. Odd that both of us...

Arlene and JeffChapter 656

The Prison Planet Ship had received permission from her Prime to go back to Earth long enough to pick up Arlene, Ann and the other aviators, then take the Wing to orbit for its launch. The trip to Earth and back would only take a few minutes. Giving the interceptors a ride to orbit and their launch would take only a few minutes more. The interceptors normally remained in their bays on Ship’s flight deck, so she would have to go back anyway. Also, she would have to return to Earth again when...

Arlene and JeffChapter 277

Deep Space "Question is, are they going to notice us?" Ann asked as she watched as one of the alien vessels came from behind a large chunk of moon and headed straight for them. Ann knew she could not warp out without her drive trying to take some of the debris field with them, which would probably result in the destruction of her warp drive, and/or her ship. In addition, she strongly suspected that the aliens would pick up her inertialess drive's signature, should she use that with them...

Arlene and JeffChapter 647

“Despite our AIs actually doing the flying, I want every pilot to have his or her hands on the controls at all times when we do this for real, and when we practice as well. Ann and I have put together a rough outline. Everything seems to work in the simulation, but we haven’t done it for real yet. There could very well be glaring errors that only show up when actually flying the patterns. Bottom line: be careful and think about what the next step is. Does the current process make sense with...

Arlene and JeffChapter 15

When they left the suite a few minutes later, they saw Melissa at the far end of the hall. She seemed to do a double-take, then turned and rushed around the corner, probably heading for the kitchen. A little later, when they walked through the door, she was already setting out two more plates. Jeff pulled Ann tighter against him, and they stopped just inside the kitchen. I know Ann is blushing. Damn, I thought I was too old to blush, but my face feels like it’s on fire. Everyone was seated...

EARLIER IN THE MORNING AT QUINTON TATE'S HOME After his morning shower, Quinton, dressed in his uniform and still buckling on his gun belt, walked into the kitchen. Before he could sit down, the phone rang. "Quinton," he said, putting the instrument to his ear as he finished securing the belt with the keepers. "Well, good morning. Are you planning to go somewhere on your little impromptu vacation?" his Captain asked, cheerily – a little too cheerily. "What vacation?" Quinton joked...

Arlene and JeffChapter 111

"We still have a problem," Diana said. "I doubt if Billy has ever used a litter box. So how are we going to train him to use it and not pee on the carpet? Since there aren't any pet stores in Winter Park, I guess we can order a kennel on the Internet and have it overnighted, but as late as it is, it will still be day after tomorrow before it gets here..." "Yeah, we were lucky the grocery store even had litter boxes. But we're ahead of you about the kennel," Jeff said. "Arlene had an...

The Retreat ... Charlotte and Ada sat for a moment as Diana's words sank in. Both mother and daughter were clearly skeptical as they furtively glanced at the other three women. Diana let out a chuckle. "You can say it; we won't get mad." Ada hesitated. "This is no joke? You're actually telling us that Susan is your mother and Arlene is your daughter?" "Got it in one," Diana said with a grin. "But..." Ada began. Then, after studying Susan's and Arlene's faces some more, she...

Arlene and JeffChapter 182

Jeff sat in his usual place at the head of the table. Frank Wainwright sat to Jeff's right as the family (minus four who were eating with Margaret and Tina in their suite) ate lunch. All the Alphas ate a lot, and Jeff usually ate more than most of them, but today, he was hungrier than usual. He had gone through his first plate and was already started on his second one. "Looks like you're a bit hungry today," Frank tactfully said. "I didn't see you after breakfast. What did you do to...

Joyce, Caitlin, Jennie, Melissa and Ann came in with the latter two pushing serving carts. Soon, the table was set and food arrayed in front of Arlene, Diana, Susan and Jeff. The wives' efficiency was not lost on Susan, but she refused to acknowledge it due to her sour mood. Each time she had talked to her daughter or granddaughter on the phone lately, her suspicions that something was going on had increased. Then the introductions in the living room were almost more than she could...

Everyone except Matt and Courtney was waiting in the living room. The new SAC and his wife had borrowed an Escalade and driven down to Winter Park. "HELICOPTER APPROACHING FROM THE NORTH. SECURITY HAS CLEARED IT TO LAND ON OUR PAD." Margaret had called earlier to say that everything had gone without a hitch and they were on the way home, but Angel had been beaten and was in need of medical attention. "Let's go," Jeff said as he started out the door of the living room with Little One...

Aboard Ship, Arlene, Ann and Selina are teaching the Morales family how to field strip, clean and reassemble a pulse rifle. ...”Very good, Mr. Morales. That’s a whole lot better than I did the first time,” Arlene blatantly lied. “Okay, Jasmine, do you know what’s next?” “Well, I did until you scrambled the parts,” Jasmine said with a chuckle, “but I think it’s that thing over there — a modulator, I believe you called it.” And the process went on. The next time they field stripped the...

The Prison Planet As the group neared the second area that was obstructed by boulders, Jeff said with a sigh, “Sorry, Ladies, but I still have a headache from moving the last bunch. No way am I going to play bulldozer just now.” “It’s getting colder in here,” Tosha said as she zipped her jacket, took her gloves out of a pocket and pulled them on. “Is it just me, or is the path sloping downward more?” Kei asked as she and the others followed suit – other than Jeff, who only zipped his light...

Kayla very briefly told everyone what had happened. Just as she was finishing up, Sheriff Tate, who had been eating with the team, walked into the hallway to chat with the others. "I helped the guys move the bodies out. We found a roll of black plastic in the basement and covered the pile of them." "That piece of plastic over there on the floor," Jill said, motioning down the hallway near the theater door, "is that where one of them..." "Yeah," Kayla said. "General Whitworth has a...

As everyone walked down the hall toward the theater, Selina hung back. When Diana turned and caught her eye, Selina, with purpose, walked on past, turned the corner and went on to her suite. If I do not ask, then the answer cannot be no, she thought. Waiting four minutes by her internal clock, she walked back out of her suite, down the hall and peeked around the corner in the direction of the theater. There was no one in the hallway. Shortly, she slowly opened the theater door the tiniest...

With the Alphas at Security headquarters studying the pulse rifle and the women apparently all in the basement, Jeff wandered through the Retreat at a loss as to what he should be doing. Deciding he would work in his lab to pass the time, he returned to the basement. Poking his head in one of the rooms, he got a smile from Kayla who was leading an exercise class – push-ups for the moment. His position allowed him a view of erect nipples on several of his wives, and a couple of the other...

Arlene grabbed Jeff's hand. "Come on, Daddy. Let's go back to our suite. Mom and Selina will be back ... uh sometime." Jeff frowned as he turned back to the others, "Yeah, that's what I'm worried about – the sometime. It's not like Diana to run off like that." Laura put her arm around his waist to get him started toward their suite. "Well, you were the one who kept pushing Diana to go through the academy. The Colonel’s Office Aboard Ship ...”And Worthington. Hear this! If something happens to my wife, I’ll kill you without a second thought. Now get out of my face before I change my mind and do what I know should be done.” Without saluting, Worthington spun on his heel and stomped out. Jeff sat thinking. Should I tell his Commander why I’m sending him back? After a moment, he shrugged. On second thought, I asked for his best aviators to give them a chance in my unit. No one, other than us,...
