“I guess congratulations are in order. You seemed worried that you were pregnant. But I do have some bad news for you. I was just informed that one of the courses you wanted is full. Which I should have been informed about earlier. So do you still want sleep studies? Part of that can be done from your home.”
I looked over the paper and asked, “What kind of benefits do we get for these? What would the schedule be? And what the heck is extreme animal husbandry?”
Nurse Gillan blushed and said, “I think we’ll talk about that last question later.”
“Well for the sleep studies we’d like you to come in once a week to sleep at one of the facilities but on your regular days, you’d need to stay anywhere from half an hour to an hour after school for different testing. And you’d also get paid lunches for you and your father. You’d also get a little spending cash for either school supplies or other items, maybe even for your other meals. For the other subjects, you’d get even more money to help you out. These pages have the pay you’d get for them,” Principal Summers said.
Before I even looked at the pages I asked, “There were a couple subjects that I was interested in. What’s involved with the Drama production and the Genetic Manipulation project or whatever it was called? They don’t actually transform us into mutants do they?”
“Oh, she is cute Carmen. But no we don’t actually transform you into anything. Well not at the level you’d be taking. And the students at higher levels are changed back, mostly. It is kind of like you’d meet with scientists and helping them out. Giving them your opinions on some of their projects. And maybe giving them ideas. It’s all complicated. I can give you a pamphlet if you’d like. And I’ll let Carmen explain the other one. Because I’ve got to use the little girl’s room.” Nurse Gillan explained.

Principal Summers rolled her eyes and said, “Our school is very big on plays. We go all out. Kind of like how some schools love sports. “I do like writing stories. But I’ve never been really good at building or sowing. I would probably be more into it if I didn’t have these huge things weighing me down.” I said the last part grasping my breasts.

Finally, Principal Summers said, “Tell you what. If they’re okay with that you won’t get paid nearly as much but you’d still get to work with them. And you’d possibly get to meet my daughter. She’s in that program.”
Soon after Nurse Gillan walked out looking as if she’d seen a ghost, “I’m pregnant.”
She just stood there and I quietly asked the Principal, “Why doesn’t she look happy?”
“Probably because she and her husband were just reunited after his tour,” the Principal explained.
“Oh. So you’re saying she, um, cheated on him?” I asked.
Nurse Gillan firmly said, “I most certainly did not cheat on him. He’s the only lover I’ll ever need. It’s just that we had a plan. And when he got back we celebrated and I guess we did something that threw that plan of ours out the window. How am I going to tell him?”
