I went to bed and listened to Mel and Wilson again. How the hell can those two do it three nights in a row. Especially Wilson, surely his heart is being damaged, I thought. Then I laughed. Probably good cardio. Mel never ran and look at her flitting all over the pier tonight. Maybe I really should try it, but not tonight.

I was in the canary when I got The Brit's call. "So where are you?" he asked.

"About five miles from the old light house," I said.

"Surely there is more than one lighthouse. Are you up in that death trap?" he asked.

"I'm up in my airplane yes, so what can I do for you?" I asked.

"Let's sell out everything in County Seat and just move here." he suggested. He obviously was calling from the Motel.

"Unlike you, all I have is the box house and my County Seat stuff," I said.

"Okay keep the box house and we can use it for a cabin when we need to get away. It's got pretty much everything we need. We can hunt and fish out of it," Allen admitted.

"And it's close to church camp," I suggested.

"Okay, that to," he said. "So I'll put the pub up for sale and Jeremy will have a going out of business sale. Since I'm going to lease the bar, I want to have input into what you do to it."

"Sure why not you design it and I'll have the work done but remember I am not quoting you any figure till the price for your fancy renovation comes in. Now how about the upstairs apartment.?" I asked.

"I'm thinking I will just outright buy the pub and the upstairs apartment," he said.

"Not how I do it. You run the bar through one full tourist season and we will talk about you buying it. The price is prorated purchase price and renovation cost plus ten percent. You are lucky I don't take 30% of you profits. It's what I usually do. I will have the trust come up with a reasonable rental fee till the first year is up. You might be glad you didn't buy when you see the bottom line.

"Okay but I hate to sell off my pub, if this one isn't a definite thing," he said.

"Sure thing," I replied.

"What?" The Brit said.

"If it isn't a sure thing. How long have you been in the country?" I asked.

"Okay, I'll try to get someone to run the place, while we try the pub in New Wales," he suggested.

"If you hang around, we can 'do' brunch," I said.

"No can do luv, we are headed back to the beautiful mountains. I love the view up there, but Jeremy wants to live at the beach," he said.

"You could find yourself a good manager for the pub and let it move to auto pilot. Kind of go from one place to another," I suggested.

"We are going to talk about that too. I'll talk to you by the end of the week with my final decision and some drawing, if I decide to go with it." The Brit said.

"Okay, will I'll be waiting. Drive safe," I said.

"You to honey," he said.

Then he laughed and I realized how foolish it all would have sounded to a stranger. I thought again and realized how foolish I sounded to me even.

After I landed and put the plane away I headed home. Mel cooked more hot dogs for lunch. "People hated the turkey dogs," she said.

"Well I'm shocked," I suggested tongue in cheek.

"I get people only pretend to want healthier food. They don't really want it, they just want to talk about what a shame it is that we can't get healthy food in restaurants," Mel admitted.

"That sounds like people alright," I said. All the while I was shoving down the sausage dogs on rewarmed buns. Mel even brought out the sauces from the first trial. I had three half dogs on rolls and a bowl of soup. "This soup is really delicious."

"Yes it seemed to be very popular. The sausage and beef hot dogs were the most popular," Mel admitted.

"Seems like a lot of research just to learn what we all kind of knew intuitively," I said.

"I guess we really were guessing more than anything else. The test meal were what it took to convince us the right direction to move," Wilson suggested. I had a feeling it was more about keeping Mel from flirting was disastrous results.

It was an inexpensive way for Mel to stay busy and test the waters. She was also spending some time helping out the little ole toy makers. That was a good thing since they really couldn't afford to hire anyone full time. Mel could walk in and help them with their backlog, then just walk out again.

There were two contractors the management company called about doing the renovations. Madge wasn't big enough, and she was surly to me, when she worked on the garage. It was the surly that prevented me from helping her grow large enough to do the work.

The management company arranged for them to begin work a week after Allen and Jeremy's visit. One went to work on the bar and Mel's kitchen. The second contractor began working on the apartments above.

The big items for the apartments were the deck and the bathrooms. We had decided to go with two units in each of the buildings except for the bar. It was all for The Brit. Whatever he wanted he got.

Before the contractors began, I brought home the trike Ev had knocked together for me. I personally added the 48volt 1000 watt hub motor to it. It made for a great Moped. There was nowhere I couldn't reach on the bike, but I really didn't want to go far. The problem was I was the limited number of trips before I had to recharge it. Usually there was enough charge to go anywhere wanted. Even with the range limit, I was happy with it. I seldom went anywhere that I needed to drive my newly repaired truck anyway. At least I didn't go anywhere locally I couldn't use the trike. Now and then I had to drive the truck to Ellisboro for a Walmart run.

Sheriff PorterChapter 8

As I knew they would, things got boring. I returned Letter to patrol as a sergeant. Mrs West turned up nothing on him. It took two weeks after we shut down the drug gang, before I got the call from Miami. "Well you said you would close us down in Warren County and you pretty much have." the voice said. "Well, we are a small county and I may have got the Heroine business, but I haven't touched the other. However I am still looking for them. If you want to be a friend someday, move your...

Sheriff PorterChapter 10

I fell into bed and asleep. The next morning I called Mrs. West before I showered even. "What's the word from the hospital?" I asked. "Two kids dead, but all the others will be fine in a few days," she said. "Lots of broken bones but none too serious, mostly emotional trauma." "Anything on the woman we arrested last night?" I asked. "How do they say it on TV. She has lawyered up, thanks to the public defender," Mrs West said. "That should really help her out," I said. "Are...

Sheriff PorterChapter 26

So I talked to the bitch from ABC new's affiliate in Capitol City. I gave her the official story with a few extra statements, like how I felt while it was happening thrown in. Then she asked, "Can you get me an interview with the two men who came from Swamp Dog?" "Not in a million years. You feel free to call them, I expect you can find the phone number." I replied. I got back to the office at 5PM. According to my arrangement with the patrol commander, I rode with one of his officers...

Sheriff PorterChapter 28

I decided to wait until I was less emotional before deciding what to do about Osborn. So the next morning I was at the sports field at 6 AM. I ran my hour and did about seven miles. I had stopped counting the laps and just ran an hour. I hated to fucking run. I always had hated it. It was seven thirty when I pulled into the gym and hit the bag for an hour. Since it was Sunday, I didn't have a real plan for the day. Reggie didn't say a word, he seemed to have something on his mind. He sat...

Sheriff PorterChapter 33

I awoke the next Morning with the smell of her all over me. I hated the thoughts of a shower, so even though I knew better I took Dog and went for a ride on my trike. He and I did about an hour on the thing. It was so hard to pedal up hills that it was as strenuous as running. Well it did give me a chance to rest during the downhill run. Dog couldn't but he had learned to run along beside and not to pull me. If he kept that up, we could do two hours, I thought. We stopped at Hardee's and I...

Mistis Adventures Part 129

Abe had risen, and offered his hand to Nola. SHE was as fascinated by him, as he was by HER. If she had been asked, she couldn't have explained the reason. It was just THERE. Their first real embrace was immediate. They held each other, kissing, and exploring each others bodies. The sensations left both of them breathless. They went up the stairs, arms around each other, looking into each others eyes. "Hey Girl!!!" Irene called to her. "Ya better look where yer goin! Y'all gonna stub a toe, or...

Learning CurvesChapter 129

Hailey sat in business stats class and seethed as the professor belittled the young man in the back of the room. She was already in a bad mood. She had talked to Phil the day before and it was obvious that he didn’t share her concerns about the motives of Skyler McKay and Grace Karstens. He said they had invited him out to a club after the game but he had finally convinced them he wasn’t interested. Hailey knew what happened in the clubs around Heilman. She could only imagine what...

We left the club and drove out of the parking lot before Tom checked out the pictures. "Shit this screen is so small I can't tell what is there. I can see that there are no hookers in there though. It is all metal shelves with stuff on them. I can't tell what it is, but it doesn't look like a cutting and repackaging room. Shit all that and neither of us are going to win the bet. They are just storing some kind of shit in there." he said. "When we get to the motel, we will hook the...

The Boys at Johns HouseChapter 129

The reception after the awards was fun. I turned off the pagers for the Angels, Cutie, Creamy and Sweetcakes. Baby, Hunk and Nosey I turned off during dinner because none of the three of them could even stand if the level went over 5. They were assigned to be the relief holes for their brothers. I told the boys with active pagers to use the Angels, Cutie and Creamy. I snagged Baby near the start of the evening. "You been loaded yet?" I asked him. "Twice, Papi." "Good. Come on." We...

January 17, 2018 Dear Ms. Diary, Dad and the three moms joined us for an early breakfast, partly because Inez was leaving today. We girls, even Celeste and Meka, each hugged Inez tightly before Carol took her to the airport this morning for her trip to visit Florida museums. She’ll be back next Saturday. At lunch, Meka turned to Lana, saying, “You’re antsy. What’s with you?” When Lana widened her eyes at her, Meka came back with, “Oh. I know. Never mind ... although you’ve got only a...

Sunday all of us ended back over at the gym. We had been using the part-time help hard the last couple of weeks and they needed a break; on top of that it was Super Bowl weekend. Those that wanted the day off, we allowed them to take it. All the bars had been running many kinds of Super Bowl specials and parties. We expected that by noon customer attendance would drop off and it did some. The gym was busy this morning and so was the tanning booth. Wendy, bless her soul, came in even though...

Lily, I send you hugs from across the stars. Or at least I'm thinking of you. It's nice to hear that you are becoming a stronger and more confident woman. I read some nice things in your last letter. First, that Will is going to be able to make his way back to you. That will mean a lot to Erica and Willow. I know, you are now thinking why it would mean much to Erica. Ten minutes later, I went out with the orchestra. They tuned up. Coming out next, were Charles and Peter. “What’s wrong, Charles?” “It’s embarrassing.” “Come on, you can tell us?” “All of my closest friends have or are getting married,” Charles responded. That got a reasonably nice applause. “Is that the only reason you are so upset, Buddy?” Peter said. “You have got a Hot wife, so does Michael, as well as Stuart.” “You have got a pretty girl in Shirley. Arlene and JeffChapter 129

Just inside the entrance to the ski lodge, Jeff and Kayla stood talking to Lieutenant Mayfield (the security Lieutenant) and a training Sergeant from the base. To a casual observer, the check-in office of the once ski lodge would not appear to have changed very much. Someone who knew what they were looking for, however, would notice that the profusion of floor to ceiling glass of the office had been replaced with armor glass, and there were now extra monitors behind the counter. The command...

It took a few minutes for Adam to explain what he had learned about bondage videos during his most recent shoot. Celina didn't really see how the two situations were similar but she let it go. Here is the deal Seth. I found a 9 mm in your room at your dad's house. We also found one at your girlfriends house. It really isn't much of a gun. Of course it don't take much of a gun at close range. Now we got a shell casing from the scene and also the slug in Burt. We can't do a ballistic check on the slug here. That went to the state crime lab last night. But what we can do is an extractor mark comparison. It is almost as good as the expert's testimony. So we are going to do one of...

Sheriff PorterChapter 7

I talked to a bunch of people who came into Hardee's, while I drank from the endless coffee cup. As far as I was concerned I had closed the Wilbur Owens case. He had committed suicide and I didn't give a damn what the medical examiner's opinion was. After all was a fucking butcher. I laughed at that last. It was almost lunch time but I wasn't hungry. I think the thought of Liam as an old man scared the hell out of me. When he was an old man, me being an old woman wasn't far behind. I...

Sheriff PorterChapter 12

"Now that you are a big boss how you liking it," I asked her when she came on the line. "I don't. Especially when one of my agents fucks up as bad as Morris. There is something personal going on with her. She can hate you as much as she pleases Sylvia, what she can not do is try to bully you. I would never allow that with anyone, especially with someone who can not be bullied. If she want's to play whose is bigger, there is no place for her in the SBI administration. She can be a field...

Sheriff PorterChapter 19

I waited until they went through the cheerleader's computer and Jamison's as well. Nothing told us who Lucy was with that night. Nothing told us who anyone was with for the last week. Jamison only updated the files weekly. So the prick still had something to deal. That must have been his thinking. He had planned that it would be about the kiddie prostitution and maybe porn, but he never planned on murder. Accessory after the fact of murder was going to be quite an incentive to talk his...

Sheriff PorterChapter 20

Most homicides are solved in the first 48hours. I think that must be in big city police departments. Just the lag time between homicide detectives and outside agencies make that impossible for rural agencies. Add to that the lack of qualified career law enforcement officers and you have an idea why rural homicides take longer or never get solved. That also explains why the SBI inserts itself wherever possible. The latter was attempting to happen, when I awoke the next morning. The excuse...

Sheriff PorterChapter 31

"What you are going to have to find is a dog sitter. Someone who is at the same place all the time and would take Dog for a few hours while you pretend to be the Sheriff," Simpson said. "Mrs West," I suggested. "I can't see her walking Dog when he has to go out. She is a bit frail I think. Once he get past this depression, if a cat crosses his path he will pull most anyone down." Simpson said. We were standing in the shade of the gun shop while Dog lay quietly panting. "I don't...

Sheriff PorterChapter 35

"It was two agonizingly slow weeks before the call came. "Sheriff Porter I believe the farm belonging to Joseph Black is going to be used for an illegal gathering of terrorists tomorrow?" the heavily distorted voice advised me. "Who is this?" I asked even though I knew. "If you have your deputies there at 12Noon you might be able to stop them." the voice went on. "How many are there," I asked. "Probably two dozen," the voice said. "You just need to be there." Be there or be...

Sheriff PorterChapter 37

It took them two days to come back with a counter offer. Admit that the arrest was a mistake and throw Morris to the Wolves. A trusted agent with a long time vendetta. The press tip off was solely so that there would be coverage of the false arrest and damage to the Sheriff's reputation. The SBI agent at the center of the controversy has been fired. "That's all they will give us. That and fifteen million dollars," Rita said. "It's more money than we would ever get from a jury. Let's...

Sheriff PorterChapter 48

Back in the motel we took turns in the shower. I wore a pair of jeans and a while tee shirt with a OD fatigue jacker over it. Only because it was available. It was also fun to poke a little fun at myself. It was laughable because it still had the sheriff name tape sewn over the pocket. Osborn wore tight jeans and tight too tee shirt belonging to me. She obviously wore a push up bra because she had more breasts than usual even. She fixed her hair in a girl next door look. She somehow managed...

Sheriff PorterChapter 62

That isn't quite true, I got out of the police station without even calling Rita. It was about 3AM when they sprung me. From the police station I drove to the motel. I slept until 10AM. I did not want to leave without getting the results of my talk with Tony. His mom somehow forgot to call me, so I staying in the city until noon. I didn't want to go back to the school, so I just went sightseeing. I hadn't seen the capitol building, since I went on a school field trip in the fifth grade....

Sheriff PorterChapter 65

Sunday morning passed in a bit of a fog due to the hangover. I remembered bits and pieces. I began to wonder, since I had the memories as if they were someone else's. If Maybe I had been drugged. If I had been drugged could Wilson be part of it. I doubted it since, why would he do it he knew almost no one in New Wales. Not to mention, I would expect the culprit to participate in it. Drugged or not, Brian was gonna remember me. If I were eighteen, as the drug wore off I would have been...

Sheriff PorterChapter 69

I sat sunning myself on the deck, which was right above Wilson's bed. I considered playing the radio with hard rock full blast. I hated that if left to his own devices, he could sleep till noon. I would be willing to bet that for the almost two weeks I was gone, he slept till noon every day. I didn't have a radio that I could play on the deck, so I couldn't rag on him. I made a mental note to buy one. I hated to miss an opportunity to rag on Wilson. I ate my biscuit and drank my coffee,...

Sheriff PorterChapter 70

"I'm not looking for a job. I have an idea I want to pitch to you. We can both benefit from it. I really would prefer to pitch it over dinner." He said it smiling his boyish smile of course. "What time?" I asked. "I know I'm going to regret this maybe not tonight or tomorrow but someday soon and for the rest of my life." I know it was a flagrant violation of some copyright law somewhere, but there it was. "I'll be by at seven, and trust me you want regret this," he said. "Yeah,...

Sheriff PorterChapter 71

I got the deal with the wrecker set up. I also had it handled so that I would be notified, if EZ missed a payment on the lease. It was everything I had promised him and nothing more. It still needed to be purchased, but I had managed a pro to go out to inspect it. While that deal was stewing, I went to work on the land for my air strip. I really didn't have much of a desire to negotiate. My main interest was that it be close and suitable for the take off and landing of ultralight aircraft....

Sheriff PorterChapter 74

"First of all Sylvia, EZ lived within twenty five miles of Jefferson Island most all his life. He was living around New Wales all of those five years. He has been in trouble with the law, but he has cleaned up his act. Had his share of woman troubles, but there was no sign of hostility issues. You can't say the same for Brian. But there is no connection between them. If they ever met, I can't tell from there cyber footprints," Wilson said. "Okay I gave him some cock and bull story...

Sheriff PorterChapter 81

When the package arrived two hours later, it was filled with walk around picture and a breakdown of everything on board. It included the description of a very powerful and reliable two cylinder four stroke Honda gasoline engine. The engine is also used in very large pumps and generators. According to the mechanic, it can be removed very easily. It could be taken into an engine shop for overhaul, or replaced completely. The pictures showed a yellow lightweight airplane just as the mechanic...
