Learning that my own father had penned the hottest pornographic novel I had enjoyed as a young boy was certainly a shock to my system. “Yeah, that was one of my first attempts, and though it went through many revisions, it’s probably the book I’m most proud of,” he said with a humble tone. “I was a younger man, and everything was fresh and clear as I wrote. “Does Mom know?” I blurted out. I couldn’t imagine Mom condoning these publications, but then again, I viewed her as a “mother” and not as a sexual being.
“Even though your Mom and I share almost everything, Charlie, this was something I decided to keep to myself. Yeah, as I recollected the novel’s content, I came to understand Dad’s concern. The beginning of the novel, the best I could remember, detailed the arrival of a newlywed whitebread couple to an upscale suburban neighborhood. “Can I ask you a question, Charlie? It’s something that I’ve been curious about, but you don’t have to answer if you feel uncomfortable,” asked Dad suddenly.
Being we were on the topic of sex, my mind raced after hearing his question. “What kind of deeply personal aspect of my own sexuality was he going to probe me about?” I asked myself before blurting out, “Sure, Dad, I’m sure my face has got an even deeper shade of red in it somewhere.”
He chuckled. “Well,” he began, “as I mentioned back on the porch, I’ve been a pretty straight-shooting guy when it comes to my relationship with your mother. I’ve never strayed. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been curious. Like any man, I’ve let my imagination wander quite a bit and have even gone so far as to publish those wanderings, but there are some things I just don’t have firsthand knowledge of.
