The harsh knock at the door pulls her violently from sleep. “What?” Yulia calls out.
“It is Curtis,” the voice comes from the other side of the door. “Are you decent?”

The knob turns and then the door almost slams open. Curtis bursts into the room, a little unkempt and looking slightly irritated. “We have another murder, if you’re keeping score,” he says.

When Yulia hears the door to the apartment slam shut, she pulls her legs out from under the covers. She slips into the shower and when she is done and back in the room, she finds a piece of paper with a scrawled message on it. For a moment the woman is on guard.
