I tell her, “You best ride your bike over tomorrow if you want to continue with the kayak. I don’t think we can trust Sam to be a reliable ride anymore.” She giggles at that.
“I think it is cool that your Uncle is getting on with her Mom. I just worry that it will mean you spend more time with Dahlia than me.”

Sam goes and knocks on the door while Dahlia and I lean on his car. When Ms. Fells answers the door, she has the same goofy grin that Sam is sporting. We can’t hear what is said, but it is only a moment before she pulls him inside. Dahlia and I take that as our cue and walk up the path to the front door. When we get inside, we do not see them anywhere. The door to the master bedroom is closed. Dahlia giggles and we head back to the living room.
We sit on the couch, and I ask, “Are you bothered by my Uncle and your Mom?”

That ends breakfast. We head up to our shop. As we climbed the hill, we don’t just hold hands. My hand was in her back pocket and she was moulded into my side. By lunch we have already accomplished more than I had hoped to get done before supper. I had taught her most of what she needs to know to sew the entire skin on the kayak. It is 1 pm when Dahlia comes in and kisses me, to let us know lunch is ready. It is no surprise to see her Mom sitting at the table with Sam, waiting for us to start lunch.
