Diana has no idea how much I wanted to talk to her, wanted to tell her what I’ve seen and done – well, some of it – but I could not. I had a knack for leading the team, and somehow I began to develop that sense that had tried its best to warn me when things were going to go wrong. A team I don’t have anymore since the General won’t let me lead it, because he’s worried that I’ll get my ass killed and Ship will leave and go searching for her race on her own – which she probably would.
Then one Healer turned out to be different. So different that she learned how to tap energy from another dimension and bootstrap herself into something far more than what she was. For some reason, she thinks I’m her Prime, just as Ship does. I now have seventeen wives, but I have a little alien spread out across my back that loves me, and I love her, and ... “Jeff, uh, they don’t need to be newlyweds when we leave on our trip,” she cautioned.

Embarrassed, she snuggled her face into his neck. “I won’t say any more just now, but Jeff, that’s the reason I want you to have many wives. It would be a crime not to have many, many of them.
