The mother and daughter sat on the bed in their pajamas, Kimmie brushing her mother's hair, another reversal of late. Always before it had been Lisa who would lovingly brush her daughter's hair while the two talked.
A couple of weeks had passed since Kimmie had been safely returned. Although Kimmie's physical injuries were long since healed, Lisa had observed a noticeable change come over the young girl. A few days later Kimmie had announced that she wished to begin doing the household bookkeeping. Lisa was amazed as Kimmie had never before shown any interest in financial matters. But when the teen insisted, the mother had relented, secretly glad to have that burden lifted from her (she would of course surreptitiously check the girl's math). She certainly had no objections when Kimmie had begun taking a martial arts self defense course two nights a week, but when Kimmie insisted on fixing the leaky sink trap instead of calling a plumber, she wondered if all this might be too much for the teen, especially after what she had just gone through.
