Thomas Youngblood had just turned 21. He was a full time physics major at UCLA and worked part time helping take care of a retired professor who had Alzheimers. He saw nothing but pieces of electronics and many books. As he was about to leave, he noticed a small door under the stairs. He opened it and found what looked to be a chest plate on would wear to laser tag. He picked it up. There was a red button on the chest. The button had to be turned and pressed. On a lark, he put on the vest. He turned the button and pressed it in.
Thomas felt as if he had just been shot out of a cannon and came to a screeching halt. The world had gone eerily silent. He looked around. Dust particles floating in the sunlight coming through the small basement window had stopped in mid-air. He walked over to the window and looked out. All he could see were some shrubs, but he could not hear anything. Backing away, he bumped into a chair covered in books. The chair tipped, and when he turned around, he saw the chair was suspended with two legs off of the ground. He picked up a book and let it go. It hung in mid-air. He turned the button on the vest and pressed it.
The book fell to the ground, the chair settled back down on all four legs, and he heard the sound of wind and passing cars again.
"Holy fuck!" he said aloud. "Dream come fucking true!"
He went upstairs and put the vest into his backpack. He waited anxiously until the professors's daughter came home, and Thomas left.
