They had failed. The innumerable, immortal army of the Burning Legion had fallen. Their leaders slain or imprisoned, their forces fleeing in what could only be described as a complete rout. Though small pockets of demons fought on, they were doomed to be rooted out by the titan's baying hounds. Azrathul cursed the Light as the battle raged all throughout the sole fortress he'd managed to cling to until now, glaring at the astral image of a planet conjured before him, the sounds of demons and invaders locked in combat echoing through the halls.
Azeroth. That pitiful, insignificant little speck in the Great Dark, full of the writhing maggots that had somehow managed to defy the will of the Legion, the mightiest force in all creation. That had somehow stood against the cleansing flames of their great crusade. A loud crash drew the eredar lord's attention as the reinforced doors to his chamber shuddered, his forces undoubtedly slain and their souls utterly destroyed now that Antorus was no longer able to anchor them. He waved a clawed hand, dismissing the image and turned towards the doors, gathering what little arcane energy he could as he began the casting.
With a mighty crash the doors flew open as a small battalion of warriors broke through. Scores of hated draenei, once his kin, stood before him their glowing eyes filled with hatred and contempt. At the fore was an imposing woman in shining golden plate, her expression hard and her aura glowing with a painful radiance. “Your time has come, demon.” She spat, “For all of the horrors you and your kind have unleashed you will meet the Light's justice!”
The eredar briefly mused that she would've made a fearsome commander of the Legion if they'd only managed to break her like they did her sister. “Ah, Exarch Alruna, it is a pleasure to finally meet face to face.” He greeted her with a contemptuous smirk. “Tell me, how fares little Nuuvi? I trust you saw her on your way up here” he gloated stalling for time as the arcane energy built up around him, “I do hope it was a...touching reunion, she spoke so highly of you during our time together.”
The draenei commander's impassive visage cracked with rage at the demon's barbs. “How dare you mention her name, monster. For that, I will make sure your end is a painful one.” She raised her warhammer, it's crystalline head glowing with divine radiance, “Soldiers of the Light, attack!” She commanded and as one they surged forth. As they charged, the last of the fel wards littered around his sanctum sprung to life, emerald flames cascading throughout the room. Though many lay wounded or dying, the charge was undaunted.
They fell upon the eredar with righteous fury, hacking and slashing at him as he conjured magical wards and gouts of emerald flames, desperately trying to weather the storm of attacks. He backed away inch by inch as they pressed harder. A momentary lapse allowed their commander to seize the advantage and bring her hammer around in a devastating blow across his chest, sending the proud eredar lord sprawling to the ground.
Azrathul growled in pain clutching at his chest. Each breath a painful reminded of shattered ribs and internal bleeding. He coughed and wheezed, fel green blood spilling from his mouth as he glared up at his foe. The Exarch towered over him, prepared to deliver the final blow. “Any last words, demon?” She spat contemptuously.
“Many...” he gasped, “but for now...katra zil...shukil!” He bellowed as he finished casting his spell, a deafening screech ringing out as a wave of fel energy erupted from the demon. The blast tossing aside the Lightforged warriors like rag dolls. “Enjoy...your tomb...” he gasped, a portal opening behind him and pulling him into the Nether, his rattling laughter echoing as the fortress began to crumble.
