In hindsight, her plan only seemed foolproof. But it overlooked one flaw. It all started with Laura answering the phone call; she was the only one that knew. She didn’t know much about the girl, Claire Hutchins, other than she was supposed to visit for a long weekend just before classes started the second semester. Claire called to say she wasn’t coming to visit. “Yeah, sorry, but I’m not coming to your school after all,” the girl had told her. That gave her the perfect opportunity to sneak her boyfriend, Tom, into the sorority.
The plan was simple. He would pose as Claire, who was supposed to visit. She knew he could pull it off. He’d dressed as Ariana Grande last Halloween. And while not a perfect duplicate, he’d fooled everyone into thinking he was female.
She’d get him ready at his place. His roommates were slobs and often not home at the same time. She hated hanging out there. And the randomness of roommates arrivals meant that sex was often risky. He wouldn’t be missed by the roommates for a weekend. And once in the sorority, they could spend the weekend holed up in her room. Sunday night, he’d wave goodbye, and Claire would be done with her visit.
She filled a small suitcase with some of her things, just in case anyone looked inside. She and Tom went to a thrift store and got him a couple of outfits: one to arrive and one to leave in.
With classes scheduled to start Monday, she spent Thursday afternoon giving Tom his makeover. He removed all the hair from below his eyebrows with a depilatory. She evened out his brows a little, did his makeup. Earrings, some rings, and a watch were added. A waist clincher gave him a feminine shape. Breast forms gave him a decent C cup. An auburn wig made his green eyes pop, as did the eye makeup and false lashes. His ensemble to get into the house was a pleated mini skirt with a twin set on top. Some hose, some low heels, and a spritz of perfume and the pair were ready to put their plan into motion.
Just as they were leaving, Carl, one of Tom’s roommates came in.
“Hi Laura!” He said without really looking at her. “Who’s your friend?” Carl asked, obviously looking Tom over. Tom didn’t say anything, but fidgeted awkwardly.
“This is Claire,” Laura said, smiling. This was a good test. If Carl didn’t recognize Tom, he could easily fool anyone seeing him enter the sorority house.
Tom tried daintily to shake Carl’s hand. It must have been good enough, because Carl didn’t say anything.
“We were just leaving,” Laura said. “C’mon, Claire.”
The pair opened the door and started to leave, but Laura stopped and told Carl, “Hey, Carl? Tom wanted me to tell you that he’ll be gone for a while and not to worry about him. OK?”
“Whatever,” said Carl, watching Claire’s ass as the two girls left.
The plan was foolproof. Until it wasn’t.
Laura and “Claire” entered the sorority. Luckily there weren’t many other Kappas around as Tom wheeled his carry-on through the door. Laura was so excited to have her boyfriend alone for a weekend that she wasn’t really paying attention to anything as she led him up the stairs.
They were halfway up when she heard Julie Rowan, the sorority president, say, “Laura? Who’s this?”
Laura tensed. She had hoped to avoid being seen, but the plan should work. Claire was supposed to visit this weekend. This would just make things a little more awkward.
“Oh, this is Claire Hutchins,” Laura said with a smile. “Claire, this is Julie Rosen, our chapter president.” Tom awkwardly smiled at Julie and give a little wave.
Laura continued, “She just got here and I was going to put her stuff in my room and show her around.”
Julie laughed. “Oh, she’s not getting any special treatment. She’ll be with the other pledges. We’re not playing favorites!” Tom didn’t say anything, just giving Laura a quizzical look
Julie scampered up the staircase to the pair and took hold of Tom’s suitcase. “Is this all you brought? Planning on some shopping then? That’s cool. But we Kappas do have an image to uphold. Just remember, we’re the ‘hot’ sorority. Now, let’s go get that paperwork signed!”
Tom shot Laura a wide eyed look and Laura shrugged. She had no idea what was going on, so she brought up the rear as Julie, still wheeling the suitcase, led the pair into the sorority’s business office. She set the suitcase off to the side and went behind the desk
Julie opened a drawer and pulled out a file folder filled with a stack of forms. There were some sticky flags taped on the forms, and Julie opened to the first one.
“As you know, we need to get these forms signed. It’s a formality, but it needs to happen. Sign here,” she said, handing Tom a pen and pointing to a signature line marked by one of the flags. Tom looked at Laura, but she had no idea what was going on. She shrugged.
Tom took the pen in his painted fingers and scribbled something that looked like a feminine “Claire Hutchins.”
“And here,” Julie said, flipping to the next signature space. Tom again signed.
“And finally... here,” Julie repeated. Pointing to the last signature line.
After Tom signed the last line, Julie stood up and hugged him. “Welcome to the Kappas, Claire! We’re so glad you’ve decided to transfer here mid-year! As a legacy, you’ve been automatically accepted as a pledge! The first pledge meeting is in 15 minutes, so don’t be late!” She mockingly wagged a finger at him and gave him a fake stern look. “You’ll be assigned to a big sister and given your pledge notebook! We take our task of making you into the best woman we can very seriously here at Kappa Kappa Gamma!
“Laura and I will show you where the pledges’ room is. We’ll help you get settled in right after the pledge meeting!”
Tom was stunned. Pledge? In a sorority?
“Uh.. those forms?” He asked in a soft voice, pointing to the stack of papers that were now being faxed someplace.
“Not to worry, Claire. Your full scholarship from the Kappas is done now that you’ve signed off on it. Tomorrow we’ll get you registered for classes and get your student ID.
“Now, Pledge Hutchins, let’s take your suitcase to your room and get ready for the pledge meeting,” Julie said as the last page of the scholarship forms was scanned. “Legacy or not, you’ll get no special treatment here! You’re going to just be one of the girls like everyone else!”
