"The 3 of 'em are just down the road, headin' for the new place. They have 3 trailers loaded with 12 horses each. They want us to go and open the corral gates at the new place so they can get 'em unloaded. They're wantin' some coffee and sandwiches. They're gonna try to bring back another load, tonight." The women all made a mad dash for the stairs to get their clothes on, along with a few of the men, while William, and Billy started a new pot of coffee. Mike reached inside the fridge and snagged the makings for sandwiches.
It was instant bedlam. Quicker than you could believe all the women, including Cathy, were downstairs to put everything in sacks, and filling thermos jugs with coffee. A large jar of tea was mixed, and put in a gallon-sized jug along with a cooler of ice. Clara, Liz, and Betty double-checked what they had, adding several of David's cigars. The cars were loaded up. Mike and Misti, with her parents, rode with William. Betty, Liz, and Clara climbed in with Dave and Carol. Jerry and Mary followed, so he could find the way to the new place, and Sharon, Billy, Rick, and Cathy all were in Cathy's Jeep. Mary had insisted on taking her "new little buddy", Sarah with her and Jerry. They put her in her seat, and put her between her and Jerry. They all arrived within seconds of each other. Tod had pulled the show trailer, with 8 horses, James had brought the truck with 6 horses in it, and pulling another trailer with 12 more horses, while David had pulled the long trailer with 24 horses in it. This was the trailer they normally used for hauling cattle to the sale barn. It was a tiny bit crowded, but they had rode well. They had managed to get all but 10 of the equines, they had to corral the 2 jacks, and hobble them, and put the 2 llamas in. They would be easy. The 6 mares wouldn't be a problem. They were going to leave the truck and 2 trailers behind. They would use the long trailer, so they could tie the 2 jacks away from the others. They tended to be testy, at best. The llamas were like the mares, big pets.
Mr. Goodrich had unfastened the gate on the corral, which by ANY standard, was large, open. Tod backed to the opening and Rick ran and opened the back gate and started leading the horses out. The first was Betty's stallion. She went over and hugged him, kissing his nose and patting his neck. He almost purred for her. He DID give a short whinny, and a nicker for his welcome. He was with his person, again. She had led him out of the way so the others could get out. They all had to be untied and taken from their stalls, one at a time. It still took a few minutes. Tod pulled out of the way, and James backed the trailer so they could be unloaded. Then unhooked the trailer and backed to the loading chute, to unload the rest. They wanted out of that cramped trailer. They joined the rest in the corral, looking over their new home. Both the Goodrich's were impressed with the quality of the stock. David and James stepped over to shake hands with both the Goodrich's, a did the others. They thanked them for their help and assistance, and were invited in. They all three headed for the bathrooms, taking care of urgent matters, and washing up, then were led to the dining room for some refreshments. He opened it to reveal a tranquilized gun, and several loaded darts. "Take this and use it on 'em. It won't knock 'em out, but, they'll be gentle as newborn kittens. Give you a chance to get 'em loaded, and hobbled, so they won't bother the other stock. These are set for a 500 pound a****l, so all ya' gotta do is load and shoot. Make sure ya' hit 'em in the rump. It'll take about five minutes to take hold. You'll be able to kiss 'em on the nose, and them NOT bite ya'. It lasts about 30 minutes, so ya' won't have to hurry. If ya like it, I'll sell it to ya'. My girl uses one when she's around bad a****ls. She has a pistol type."
Tod, who had not looked forward to wrestling a couple of mean jacks took it, and thanked him. "This'll make my life much easier, Sir! I REALLY appreciate it!!!"
David suggested they take the trucks wherever Mr. Goodrich wanted them parked, and they had best get on the road. They all gave their farewells, hugged and kissed the older couple, thanking them, again, and inviting them to come visit any time. The 2 men were out the door and gone.
