I have known Brianna forever it seems and we were both just little k**s when her real father took off. So it wasn't until this summer that both Brianna and I graduated from grade school, both being in the same grade, even though it's been almost two years since I last saw Brianna.
She continued to go to the school that we both went to in Eureka, but after my parents broke up, my brother and two sisters all moved away from my dad and we all moved down to Santa Rosa with my mom, and that is where I went to school. Brianna got accepted into the Junior Academy in Fortuna in the fall, but I was still going to be going to school in Santa Rosa, which I wasn't looking forward to. I don't really like the big city here and the k**s are totally different then where I used to live in Eureka.
My mom was leaving for France for three weeks this summer, my brother is in college now, my older sister is always in trouble and she is staying with her friend at her house and my little sister is with my auntie for the summer. I didn't want to go with my auntie's house so I asked if I could stay with my dad for the summer. Even though I was staying with my dad over summer vacation, I ended up staying at Brianna's more often, as it had always made me feel nervous to stay at home alone at night, because sometimes my dad worked overnight, if he didn't work during the morning.
I think that might be another reason why my parents broke up because my dad always worked so much and he still does to this day. I don't mind that he does, because I can still see him when he has his days off, and we can go do things, but he dosen't mind that I sleep over Brianna's house either, because he knows her parents pretty well. Brianna's parents don't mind either, and I know they liked my company, since I'm like part of the family and I haven't seen Brianna, or them for almost two years now.
It's been five days now since I arrived at my dad's house for the summer and when I woke up late this morning, I noticed a note on the kitchen table. It was from my dad and he wrote that he's very happy that Im back home with him and rthat we will spend the day together this weekend. He also wrote that he had to go into work a little earlier today and that he didn't know when he was going to be home, but left me some money on the table and asked me if I could walk down to the grocery store, which was only like ten minutes away from the house, and pick up a few things so he could make his famous banana pancakes with bacon and eggs for dinner when he gets home. That is like one of my favorite things to eat ever, breakfast for dinner!
So later that day after I took a shower, I got dressed and then watched a couple episodes of Gotham on Netflix, I put the $20 bill in my pocket and headed to the Winco grocery store. When I finally got there I was in the produce section and i definitely needed some bananas. Now I just had to decide on which bananas were the right ones, as I picked up a bunch that were a little green.
"You don't want to do that," as I heard a voice over my shoulder.
I spun around to see who said that and standing there was this older man that was very handsome and tall. He looked a little under six feet with dark, wavy hair. As my eyes widened in shock, I felt my knees get weak and a few seconds later, I felt my throat tightening.
For him, he didn't notice I was speechless, as he was caught up on my little breasts, brown hair, and my tiny sun freckles all over my face.
They were now standing there, the two of them.
"Ummm. . .what I meant by that is," he said, "was that it's better to select some green bananas, along with a couple ripe, but not too ripe bananas, that way," he continued, as I saw his eyes move down at my chest, "some are ready to be eaten right away, and than some will be ready to eat a day or two later. The reasoning for this, is that none spoil."
"Umm. .yeah," I said too quickliy, after remembering to breathe. "I knew that."
"Of course you did," he said immediately.
And she stood there unable to pronounce another word, until one of the store's dairy worker with a dolly of milk in crates, found them blocking his path, as he said "Excuse me, please.
A moment later, we were eye to eye and staring into each other's eyes.
"What else are you buying?" He asked, as their pauses were slow.
"I... I'm not sure," I told him. With my mind gone blank, I couldn't recall any of the other items my dad had asked for.
Thinking quickly,he said, "Well, what I usually do is walk up and down the aisles. That way I'll pass just about everything in the store.
"That's a super idea!" I blurted out, and immediately felt like I was totally clueless. So why can't I remember what I came to the darn store for?' I thought.
"Mind if I walk the aisles with you?" He asked politely.
"Yes! I mean, no - - not at all," I said, now feeling like a total clueless idiot.
