Mary frowned at her. "Don't even let yourself think like that." she said. "You'll make YOURSELF sick." Sharon promised to try. Mary asked her if her tryst with William had made her feel ANY better. Misti kept getting up, and going into the kitchen. Carol had heard what sounded like something being chopped, and the sounds of pots being moved around. She wondered what was going on. She had been given an injection in the hip. On top of being pregnant, she HAD picked up a virus, and was advised to drink plenty of water, rest, and eat good food. Nothing too heavy on her stomach for a few days. He had given her a prescription for some medicine, which they had stopped and filled, also. Misti came back in and set a cup near her. "It's a tea I brewed for you. My neighbor used to make it for us when we felt bad. She was a medicine woman, and taught me when I was just a little girl."
Carol took a small sip. MERCY!!! This really tasted GOOD! She took another sip. She wished ALL the medicines she had taken had tasted this good. She looked up at Misti. She was ready for her, and told her it was made from several different plants, plus she had added a bit of cinnamon. There was also more, if she wanted it. It was not only good for the sickness, it would relax her and help her sleep. Carol, already drowsy, set her cup on the coffee table, and observed, "It's already working. I can hardly keep my eyes open." She scooted down a tiny bit, and was asleep. Misti pulled an afghan over her so she would be warm, and went back into the kitchen. She wanted this to be as good as she could make it. It was a soup she had been taught to make long before. Foreigners called it Asian style chicken soup. Only it could be made with chicken, pork, or beef. She was preparing it with beef AND chicken. Pork would probably NOT be wise when Carol's stomach was so easily upset.
The time went by quickly. Sharon had come running in the front door, and she heard frantic knocking at the back door. It was Mary. They looked in and saw that Carol was sleeping, and turned on Mist, wanting to know all the details.
They had arrived at the clinic early, and had only waited a few seconds before being shown in. Carol had filled out the forms they had needed, and had her vital signs taken by a nurse. The doctor had told the nurse he needed lab work done, and she had taken blood, urine, saliva, and stool samples. These had been checked in a matter of minutes. The doctor had also had an ultrasound taken. She had been back in the examination room for a few minutes, and the Doctor came in and introduced himself as Dr. Immelmann. He had talked with them for a few minutes, telling them Carol had a virus. He had asked how she had been over the past week. He turned to Misti. "Put the robe on her, and spread this cover over her from the waist down. When you are ready, I'll be right outside. I'm going to check her breasts, and give her a pelvic examination."
He stepped out, closing the door, and Carol only took a second to follow his instructions. Misti sat out of the way, but still where she could see everything. She opened the door a crack and called the Doctor back in. The Doctor washed his hands and reached for his gloves. Carol looked up at him and commented, "If it's all the same to you, Doc, I would rather you check my breasts barehanded. Those gloves feel weird." The Doctor shrugged his shoulders and put the gloves back on the counter. He was very gentle with her, and she responded, her nipples standing at attention, which the Doctor noted. The Doctor told Carol she could put her clothes back on. Carol looked up at him, smiling. " I wish this were other circumstances, Doc. I would like you to screw me silly. That meant Jerry and Mike were here.
Everybody had gathered in the living room. Carol had never even thought about putting on clothes. She sat up on the couch, Indian style, exposed to all. She looked up at Dave. "My Love. "Did you call the folks, yet. They'll want to know. Carol had been thinking about just that very thing. "Honey. We were talking about going to see them this weekend. I can't go THIS weekend. I might make someone else sick, but, lets go NEXT weekend. We can call them and give them a chance to get ready. Does that sound good to you?" Dave agreed, so they all made plans for the trip.
Misti and Mary had gone into the dining room and set the table. The soup had been dished out, and everybody seated, much as they had those few nights ago. Everybody was ravenous, and agreed that Misti's soup was the best thing since bubblegum. Everybody ate seconds, and some went back for a third serving. They ALL left the table in misery. They had eaten so much, they were in agony.
It was to be one of the happiest days of their lives.
