Hello, everyone, this is Sagar. Currently, I am 23 years old and what I am narrating today is not a story to read but 1 year (2013-2014) of what I went through in my life, that I spent in Kota. Yes! Kota, The Education hub of India.
Well, as it is not a story but an incident of my life so it’s not going to be cut short. So please be patient and read along and try to imagine yourself in my place so that you can understand what I’ve gone through. This story is going to be divided into some parts as it is a long story. So I’ll wait for your precious feedback for posting further parts. Here it goes.
I was born in a middle-class family and my family consisted of my father – a government employee, my mother, a housewife, my older brother and then me, the youngest in the house. I lived in M.P and studied there till my 12th class. I was an above average student in my class and was considered to be well mannered and a good student in by the teachers.
After completing my 12th in 2013 march I went to Kota for the preparation of engineering entrance exams. In Kota, I used to live in P.G as I was more of a self-dependent boy. I got admitted to the Allen Institute in July of 2013 for the preparation for exams.
Everything was going fine, I attended my class every day, did my homework regularly and I was scoring good marks in weekly tests around 200-240 from 360 which was enough to fetch me a good NIT or even an IIT. But God had planned something else for me. And I think God was in the mood to play so he chose me as a toy.
To my bad luck she came into my life out nowhere, at the starting I didn’t felt anything, but then I realized that ‘Aasmaan Se Tapke Aur Khajur Me Atke’ had happened to me. Just before her arrival into my life, my studies started a downfall as my marks went from 200 to as low as 80. If this was enough of a setback, and the reason for me to have tension, she came with a shitload of problems in my life.
Her name was Sherry and because of her, I was really sorry for one whole friggin year. I used to use Facebook in my 11th as I was new to Facebook and really liked it. I used it every day and used to talk to everyone and send a request to anyone even if I didn’t know the person, and one of them was Sherry.
I also talked to her casually and politely. I don’t know what happened between me and her. I used my real pic as my profile picture on Facebook, but she didn’t. So, she knew how I looked, and one or two times she complimented me for my above average looks. As the time went by, I almost forgot about her as a passing memory and went to Kota to prepare for my exams.
In the month of September, I was just going to buy my Sleeping pills which were suggested by the doctor of the Allen Institute. Due to my low scores, I was in tension and was unable to sleep well so I consulted a doctor. And she advised taking Alprax pills to sleep though they weren’t of any use. So as I was returning from the medical store, I don’t know what happened to me but I just stood there on the footpath.
It was a pleasant evening with some breeze flowing and I was feeling good and was lost in the thoughts of my future. I was brought back to earth with a sweet voice saying,” HEY! HEY! ” As I just turned to my left, I found a beautiful girl asking for my attention. For one moment I thought that what business does this beautiful girl have with an average guy like me.
Anyway, I listened to her and the conversation went like this:
She: Hey! Hello.
Me: Yes, what it is?
She: You are Sagar na?
Me: What? I didn’t hear you. (in confused look)
She: I mean, your name is Sagar na! (In excited state)
Me: Yes, it is. But How do you know my name? (Surprised and Confused)
She: You live in M.P and in this town na! (Still excited)
Me: Yes, but how do you know all this, and I can’t even remember who you are? (Seriously surprised)
She: Don’t you know me? We used to talk for a long time. (Still excited)
Me: No, I can’t seem to remember who you are, I can’t even remember your face? (Seriously confused)
She: Idiot, you’ve never seen me so how can you remember my face, but you have talked to me, so you should know my name? (Still excited)
Me: No, I don’t know. (Scratching my head)
She: You idiot, It’s me, Sherry. (Super excited)
Me: Who? (Confused)
She: It’s Sherry. (Still super excited)
Me: Who? (Super confused)
She: Stupid, Sherry your Facebook friend, when you were in your 11th. (Literally hitting me with the notebook she held in her hand)
Me: Okay! Okay! Now I remember, That Sherry. (Feeling relaxed)
She: Who else? By the way how many Sherrys do you know? (Interrogating)
Me: No! That not what I meant by that Sherry. I meant that Facebook Sherry, and I don’t know any Sherry other than you. (Relaxed)
The conversation lasted for half an hour and we talked about why she stopped talking on Facebook. She said that her phone broke and she didn’t have a pc at home and then she concentrated on the studies. She asked what I was doing here as well. Then the question struck me that, “How did you recognize me?” I straight away asked her and her reply was, “Idiot, from your profile picture. We talked for months so I remember your face.”
Then she said, “You look better than your profile picture, in fact, you look cute.” Just after saying this she went away. Then I realized that there was one more girl with her, standing at a bit distance from her. She looked like she just happened to have finished her shopping just at the time when our conversation ended. And then they went away.
And I was there standing saying, “WHAT THE FUCK! God, Why? Why now? Why is she back? And above all cute? Do I look cute? No! I don’t look cute, I am not cute, I am not a friggin kid to be called cute. Why cute? She could have used something else if she wanted to insult me so much for not remembering her name, but why cute?”
In all this self-talking I reached my room. I couldn’t study that day and kept thinking of her and that cute statement. In the evening I just lit up a cigarette and took a puff and with every puff, I was feeling relaxed and her thoughts were drifting away and so I lit another one and the after puffing it I slept peacefully with a pill.
