"Some people believe that time is the fourth dimension. I,
myself, say parallel worlds are the fourth dimension." Dr. Frank
Manson was giving his lecture in front of 1000 people. "To
visualize the fourth dimension we must go back to 2 dimensions.
Imagine a square. It has width and length. Let's say that the
length and width are both 10 units long. Whether these units are
in meters, miles, yards or feet isn't relevant. Take any point in
this square; let's take point (3,4). In this square this specific
point is unique. But imagine a second square just above the
first. This square has the same point in it. Yet, we KNOW it is
not the same point because we think in three dimensions! We would
call the first point (3,4,z1) and the second (3,4,z2) due to our
3D-thinking."
"What if we are not aware of that 3rd dimension. Let me emphasize
this with the following example. A new office complex is built.
Every floor looks exactly the same as the above or beneath it.
Someone is brought to a floor. He is allowed to walk over the
entire floor, but doesn't know where the stairs or elevators are.
At night when he is asleep he is brought to another floor. While
every floor is exactly the same he will not be aware that, in
fact, he has moved to another dimension. In fact he doesn't even
KNOW how to get there in the first place!"
"So as visualized the 3rd dimension in this way it is also
possible to extrapolate towards a 4th dimension. You get any
point on this earth (the floor in the building) and add an extra
co-ordinate (the next floor of the building). Since there are at
least the same number of co-ordinates in any x-y-z 3D model,
there must be an infinite number of v-x-y-z co-ordinates in a 4D
model! Therefore there must be an infinite number of parallel
worlds out there. The only problem is that we haven't found the
'stairs' yet to go to the 4th dimension!" Dr. Manson stepped away
from the desk and bowed while the audience applauded for his
speech.
Afterwards he went home. He went straight to his cellar to
continue his research. He was bound to find the 'stairways' to
the 4th dimension. His theory stated that the infinite number of
parallel worlds is caused by the choice we can make on every
event that occurs to everyone. Whether someone goes left or right
can influence someone's life forever. In the first world that
person takes the left turn and meets the love of his life, where
in the other world he lives unhappily ever after. He was thinking
what could be the gateway to the 4th dimension. Was it a
wormhole? Was it some kind of radiation? He just didn't find the
right answer.
After several hours of research it was time to hit the sack. He
updated his diary and went to bed. The next morning he noticed
that there was a note attached to his mirror, "Please read your
diary on 21-06-2000!" Frank was amazed. Where did that note come
from and why did he have to read his own diary from 21-June-2000?
The only way to find it out was to read his own diary. He opened
his diary and started reading.
Wednesday 21-june-2000
My name is Dr. Frank Manson. Today I have crossed the 4th
dimension!
"Hey what the hell is this! On 21-June-2000 I wrote something a
lot different." He went on with reading...
When I woke up, I noticed that my beard was gone. I have
had a beard for 10 years now and now it was gone. Since I
did not shave myself I must have somehow switched places
with the Dr. Frank Manson of this world. Apparently the
Frank Mason of this world didn't choose to wear a beard! If
I can switch with the Frank Mason of this world, then
someone else must be able to switch with me as well. To
inform the next Dr Frank I will attach a note to the
mirror. Please leave this on it to inform your next Dr
Frank Manson.
Frank was stunned. Somehow he too had crossed the 4th dimension.
He had no clue how he got to this world. And even more he
couldn't see why this had to be another world than the one he
left. But then he remembered that not HE, but someone else could
be responsible for making this parallel world. The shock was
somewhat too much. He went to the bathroom to drink some water.
When he sat down in the living room he thought over the night
before. He had trouble sleeping and couldn't stop thinking about
the 4th dimension. He even was dreaming about it. Since nothing
else seemed to be different than his own world he continued his
research. Reading from the diary of the 21st of June 'till now he
noticed that he was the third to become the Frank Manson of this
world. The second Frank came in on August 12. The first one to
become Frank Manson had been here for almost 2 months. The second
Frank had been here for 6 months. He too came her after dreaming
about traveling to the 4th dimension.
That had to be what triggered the travel. Dreaming of going to
another world makes you go to another world! Since no one on
earth can decide what to dream he was stuck to as this Dr. Frank
Manson until he could dream of going to another world.
Dr. Frank Manson now knew how to go to another dimension but had
no proof to his findings. If he would tell anyone that he had
traveled between worlds no one would believe him. For everyone
else he was just the Dr. Frank Manson he always was in this
world. He had just assumed the life of Dr. Frank Manson from this
world, that wasn't much different from his own life. In fact the
only difference was that on this world, someone had taken over
the life of Frank Manson.

The next morning he woke up, he realized that he had breasts.
"What the... I'm a woman." he thought while grabbing between his
legs.
He couldn't get it right. He opened his/her diary and found out
that a woman, definitely done by a woman, wrote the whole diary.
Her name was Franca Manson. Everything written in the diary was
his own life, except that it was now seen through the eyes of a
woman.
He realized that this must be another parallel world. It confused
him because he hadn't dreamt about it. So why had he swapped to
another world??? It puzzled him but at the same time he was
anxious to live the life of a woman.
He opened a closet and pulled out a costume. It seemed to be some
kind of suit like his secretary wore. Given no other choice he
put on the suit and went to his office. It seemed to bother no
one that he was a woman; it was completely normal for everyone
around him. At 5 he went back home. He put his car in front of
the house and went inside. He placed the car keys on the table in
the kitchen and went in the house. He watched TV and went to bed
at 11:30.
The next morning (s)he overslept. Not having set the alarm made
her wakeup an hour late. She rushed out of bed and got dressed.
After that she took a quick breakfast and tried to grab the car
keys from the table, but it wasn't there.
She was absolutely positive she put the keys on the kitchen
table, so where could it have gone? She searched the house to
find the key hanging on little nail beside the mirror in the
hall. She took the car and went to work. The incident with the
key kept her attention. How could that key go from the kitchen to
the hall? She tried to find an explanation for it and at the end
of the day the only possible answer she could think of was that
she must have gone to another world where the key was hung on
that nail the day before.
This small change in reality made her theory even more solid.
What if we 'jump' to another world in our sleep every day? We
hadn't have to dream about going to another world, it just
happens to all of us. Since there are over 6 billion people on
this earth and only 1 small change have to occur in one's life we
wouldn't even see the changes that effects reality as you knew it
the day before. How often do people miss their car keys the next
day because they can't remember where they had put it? What if
this happens to your neighbor, you would have 'jumped' that day
without ever knowing. Only a mayor change in your life would make
you aware of an alternate reality, like loosing a beard from one
day to another or even changing sex!
The changes of such a big event are rather slim. The fact that
she had noticed the changes 3 times now (the note, the sex and
the keys) were merely caused by the fact that she had a theory
about parallel worlds which made her aware of it. In fact only
one mayor event happened to her. The note was deliberately placed
on the mirror.
She had to except that for the rest of her live she might be
stuck female. Other people who had a change of sex may have more
problems accepting their new lives. In fact transvestites and
transsexuals might even be women who woke up being male from one
day to another. She wrote her theory down in a manuscript:
The 4th dimension, a daily travel.

The manuscript got well known by scientists. Some are still
seeking to find a proof for her theory. Since the implications of
this theory are far too great, this manuscript is only available
at large university libraries.

Note from the author:
With this story I have tried to create a way to make all kinds of
strange changes possible to the character without having to
explain the changes that occurs to him/her to everyone else. This
makes all kind of worlds possible.
For example:
Men who wear dresses normally,
Men with breasts,
Female domination worldwide, etc.
The only catch is that we are only allowed to notice 1 or 2 big
changes in our lifetime due to the statistics. A human will live
for about 75 years (or >25,000 days). There are over
6,000,000,000 people in the world. The chance to notice a change
is therefore very slim, which applies the rule. In the story it
will be mostly the day that the person awakes in the new world.
