Time Stands Still Chapter Eighteen: The Last Act

10:00 p.m.
I did everything I was told. I went home and got a change
of clothes and took a shower.
Then the girls and I drove my truck and the Hummer back to
Georgina's. There I met with Sanchez and two of his
technicians fitted me with a transmitter and a microphone.
I was going to be the bait for the rats.
After getting hooked up, I drove out in my truck and
started going door-to-door looking for clues in Staci's
shooting. I knocked on every neighbor's door and made sure
everyone saw me. Business as usual.
Then I started to look into Roberta's daily schedule and
who she met and where she went.
At about 10:30 p.m., I had my tail back. I turned on my
transmitter and told everyone that I had been picked up by
the black limo that Mr. White drove in. I told them I'd be
looking for the van to block me out.
It didn't take long for them to do their stuff. I was
driving down a narrow street when the van pulled out into
my lane, hitting the side of my truck. Traffic was light
and people drove on by assuming I was just part of another
fender bender.
I braced my hands on the wheel and narrated what was
happening into my body microphone. The police didn't plan
on moving in until I had been kidnapped and there was
plenty of evidence for a conviction.
What we didn't expect was Jack. He was driving in his squad
car in the other direction and swerved over and literally
took me from the arms of the three thugs who were the ones
who had snatched me before.
The next thing I know, there's some screaming and shouting
and Jack and I are moving away from the scene. The
transmitter was short range and Jack was taking me away
from the police and the girls.
I didn't have time to speak before Jack grabbed my shirt
and ripped it open. He grabbed the microphone and ripped it
out of the transmitter. He growled and smacked me across
the face.
"You stupid queer! You couldn't just let it go, could you?
You were warned and you had to be the faggot hero for a
stupid dog. Jesus Christ! You are such a waste of my time."
Jack was screaming and spit was coming out of his mouth.
"What's happening, Jack? Why are you acting this way?"
He hit me again. This time, he hit me with his fist and I
saw stars and everything went red. "You, you... I treated
you so well. I treated you with class, but you have to go
and screw up my retirement. I was going to make over a
hundred grand helping White bring his dope to this town,
but you had to get in the way."
He smacked me again and my nose hit the dashboard. Between
the headache, the tears, and the blood, I was ready to curl
up in a ball on the floor.
"Jack, you shot the dog?"
"It was the only way I could throw suspicion off of me.
Internal Affairs was starting to trace the bribe money and
I needed a little more time for this deal to go through.
Then I could resign and they'd lose me."
Jack looked at me with hatred. He pulled the wheel hard to
the right and we turned into a warehouse lot. He drove us
straight into an open warehouse and the big doors closed
behind us.
My door was opened and one of the three musclemen from
today pulled me out and dragged me to the center of the
room.
I was stripped naked again and then my hands were tied
behind my back. My hands were chained to a wall hook and I
stood there looking at the three thugs, Mr. White, and
Jack.
Mr. White smiled at Jack. "Nice job, Jack. You were a good
worker. Always loyal, a get-the-job-done guy."
At that same moment, one of the thugs pulled his gun and
aimed it at the back of Jack's head, and fired. Jack keeled
over dead as his brains splattered across the room.
Mr. White glared at me. "Now it's your turn. Remember what
I promised to do? Well, we decided to give you a little
added bonus beforehand. Boys?"
Thug one had his pants down and was stroking his erection.
Thugs two and three were pulling me into position. I was
thankful that I was lubricated because thug one shoved it
in as hard as he could inside me and began pumping. His
hands were like clamps on my hips. He was hurting me.
The other two laughed and waited their turns, shouting
encouragement to number one and smacking me and kicking at
me.
When it was number two's turn, I was bleeding and in real
pain. I kept trying to turn away and bite but they kept
hitting me on the head and in the ribs. I was having
trouble breathing.
Just about the time number three was getting ready, I heard
a series of small pops and suddenly I was the only one
standing.
White and the thugs were lying on the ground convulsing.
Each one had two little wires coming out of their backs.
Georgina and the girls came running over. Someone threw a
blanket over me and someone else retrieved my clothes. I
threw up and cried, but I was going to be all right. No
permanent damage.
The thugs were as afraid of disease as I was and each had
used protection.
Before I could say or do anything, Georgina took me over to
her car outside in the lot. "We are getting you out of
here."
Georgina used her cell to call Sanchez and he met us at the
club. He was driving my truck. He looked upset.
"We couldn't keep track of you. I knew this was a bad idea
from the start."
Georgina held up a hand towards Sanchez. "It's all been
taken care of."
Sanchez gave me a ride home with Greta in the back. When we
got back to my place, he helped me get into a tub and then
bed.
He kissed me and I promised me our dinner date.
Snuggling under the covers, I was hugging Greta. We had a
big day and I was ready for sleep.
Tomorrow would be a working day.
Epilogue - Loose Ends
Mr. White was found shot with Jack's gun at the warehouse
late that night. It appeared that Jack had tried to arrest
Mr. White with subpoena in hand. Apparently there had been
a gun battle and both men died.
Jack was buried with full honors. His family got a generous
pension because of Jack's loyal service to the force.
I was there to watch them lower the coffin into the ground.
The three thugs were found later the next day. All three
were alive. All three had been dropped at different
emergency rooms throughout the city, each with the same
disfiguring cuts.
None of the men ever said what had happened, but it was
obvious that one person or persons had performed the same
amputations to each man.
Even with several operations and lots of plastic surgery,
all three men wouldn't be standing to urinate or fathering
any children.
I took a few days off from work to rest up.
Sanchez and I had that dinner on Saturday night and "she"
looked marvelous. It was the first time that I got to use
the strap-on that Georgina had given to me as a present.
