Let's get this straight - I am not a neat freak, but I'm not a slob either.
I wish I could say that about my wife, but I can't. She is just simply a
slob. Not in a grotesque sense - she is just very messy around the house.
In our bedroom, her clothes are always laying around on the floor. In the
bathroom, we always have pantyhose, bras, and panties hanging around as they
dry - plus she constantly leaves her lipstick and makeup stuff laying out on
the counter. She always leaves a mess in the kitchen - if the dishes get
done, it's only because I do it. It seems like I'm always bitchin' about it
to her, but it does no good. Like I said, I'm not a neat freak, but I like
things to be at least a little bit orderly. So I constantly find myself
picking up after her. I'm constantly picking up and putting away her
clothes. I feel like I'm constantly loading and unloading the dishwasher.
I'm always having to put away her stuff in the bathroom. It's really been
becoming frustrating to me - it's not like I've got all the time in the
world to take care of all her crap! This marriage is supposed to be a
partnership - and that means we are supposed to take care of things
together!
Yesterday, I had a really crummy day at the office. It seemed like
everything that could go wrong did - and it seemed that I got blamed for
EVERYTHING. I could not wait to get home and just relax. I got home, and
saw that Sheila's car was home already, so I was hoping maybe she was
cooking some supper for us. Yeah - right! I went inside and she was
nowhere to be found. I realized that she must have taken the dog for a
walk. As I walked in, I just became overwhelmed with all the mess that I
saw. When she came home from work, she obviously had changed clothes and
just left her dirty ones strewn all over the floor. She had just dumped her
dirty dishes from lunch into the sink instead of putting them into the
dishwasher. I went to the bathroom and I accidentally knocked a bottle of
her perfume off of the counter, and it fell and shattered. I was furious!
As I cleaned up the mess, the smell of her perfume was just getting all over
me, and I knew it wouldn't easily wash off. It was just about the time that
I finished cleaning it up when Sheila got back home with the dog.
"What's that smell?" she asked.
"It's your damn perfume that you left out again! It fell and broke on the
floor," I called out.
"You asshole! That's some expensive perfume! What'd you knock it off for?"
"Because you're the asshole that left it out! Jeez, if you could just put
up some of your freakin' mess this wouldn't have happened!" I said.
"I can't believe you did that. Why can't you be more careful, you klutz,"
and she walked away. It was then that I noticed that she was wearing my
favorite pair of workout shorts - a pair I love to put on when I get home to
relax in - and she was wearing one of my favorite T-shirts.
"Why are you wearing my shorts and my shirt? You know those are my favorite
shorts!"
"Because I needed something to change into so I could walk the dog," she
replied. "What's the big deal?"
"The big deal is that it's my clothes! Why couldn't you wear yours?"
"Because I couldn't find anything! I have no idea where you put all my
stuff away at."
"So you can't open the drawers and freakin' look??? Instead, you just take
something of mine and wear it?" I asked incredulously. I was really
getting pissed, and she knew it.
"I'm sorry, but I don't see the big deal, Steve."
"You would if I was to wear a pair of your favorite shorts and shirt. You'd
have a problem with that, wouldn't you?"
"Whatever - wear them if you can find them, if that would make you happy,"
she said.
"I'm just getting sick of you taking me for granted. You leave your mess
everywhere, and I'm always having to clean up after you. I'm sick of being
your maid, and I'm sick of you just taking me and my stuff for granted!"
"I think you better calm down before this little argument really becomes a
blow out, Steve."
She was right. She apologized, and let me know that she was going to try to
do better, and we ate supper, and relaxed as we watched the World Series
together. We finally went to bed, and had a great restful night. I had to
get up really early to get ready for a meeting, and so I left the house
before she even got up.
When I came home that afternoon, again I found that Sheila had beaten me
home, and again she had taken the dog for a walk. Inside the house, I found
once again another mess. She left all her breakfast stuff out. She had
strewn her clothes all over the floor. Her makeup was out and everywhere in
the bathroom, along with a new bottle of perfume out on the counter. She
had already done some handwash, and so pantyhose, panties, and bras were
hanging almost everywhere in the house drying. In the bedroom, she had
clothes all over the bed where it looked like she had gotten out 2 or 3
outfits to wear to work before she decided on one. I tripped on one of her
heels that she had just left on the floor. I was quickly enraged!!! Just
curious, I began looking for my favorite pair of shorts, and I couldn't find
them. I just knew she was wearing them again!
I thought to myself, "What the hell makes her think that she can just wear
my clothes?!? She wouldn't like it if I was wearing her clothes!"
I remembered bringing that point up to her yesterday, and what was her
response? "Wear them if you can find them."
"Fine," I thought. "We'll see how she likes it when it happens to her!"
I took off my clothes, and I put on a pair of her panties there on the
floor. I grabbed a pair of pantyhose and tried to put them on as I had seen
her put them on. I was rushing, so I got a run in them. "Even better -
that ought to piss her off that I've ruined a pair of her hose!" I took one
of the outfits she had apparently tried on this morning - a black mini-skirt
that sorta looked like a tennis skirt, and a white blouse. I realized as I
put on the blouse that I had forgotten to put on a bra, so I grabbed one and
stuffed it with some more of her pantyhose laying on the floor. I put back
on the blouse, and looked at myself in the mirror. "Yep, this is surely
going to get my point across!" I thought.
I went to the bathroom and put on a little lipstick that she had left out.
I even put on some of her new perfume. As I was getting ready to walk back
down the hall, I decided that I should even try to wear a pair of her shoes,
since we were really about the same size. I tried on the pair of heels that
I tripped over earlier, and although they were a little tight, they did fit.
I couldn't wait for her to get back home now! I could only imagine the
look on her face as she is standing there in my clothes, and I'm standing
there in her clothes. I heard her come in the back door, so I started down
the hall to greet her. I could not wait for this argument!
As I walked into the kitchen, she turned and looked at me. The first thing
I noticed was not the expression on her face. The first thing I noticed was
that she was NOT wearing my shorts or my shirt. Then, I noticed her
expression - one of disbelief and laughter. "What the hell are you doing in
my clothes?" she asked.
"Well, I wanted you to know what it's like! And I'm sure it pisses you off
as much as it does me!" I said. I couldn't believe the idiot I had made
myself out to be! I forgot to check the dirty clothes, which is where I had
put my shorts and shirt after she took them off last night!
"It doesn't piss me off - I think it's hilarious! You look like a fool,"
she said.
"I know I do, but I did it to prove a point!"
"You didn't prove shit, big girl! But I will tell you what I'm pissed
about," she said. "I'm pissed you ruined a pair of my nicest hose. I don't
care if I did leave them out, you're going to buy me a new pair. I'm also
pissed that you broke my perfume yesterday, and now you've apparently wasted
some on you today. You owe me, Steve. You owe me."
Apparently, I didn't make my point too well. In fact, I think it really
backfired on me. Now it seems that she is constantly wearing my clothes,
and leaving hers out for me, almost daring me to put something of hers on.
I swear, if she keeps on doing it, I'm really going to put it on, and I'll
really embarrass her! I'm sick of cleaning up for her! I'm sick of
cleaning up after her! I'm sick of doing her laundry!
Who does she think I am? Her maid?
