Amy Bradsworth. That's who I am. I am now 13 years old. So, during our
'little trip' I lost my identity as almost 20 year old Mark, and I'm
now a teenaged girl who's finishing 8th grade this week. I am almost
getting sick just writing about it.
I waited until this morning and then snuck over to my house about 8am
and like I expected, no one was home. The fact that my key still worked
sort of told me as I walked in that the professor's theory was correct,
and that I still was a member of this family. If there was any good
news in what I found, it's that I'm the only one who appears to have
changed. Instead of being the second oldest of four kids, I'm now the
youngest. Our family used to be made up of two boys, 21 and 19 (me),
and two girls, 17 and 15. Now, there's three girls including me as the
youngest.
My parents were both at work, so I had time to dig around for as much
information as I could. I found myself at various ages in family photos
around the house. To the rest of the world, I've always been Amy. There
were plenty of normal family pics, but also pictures of me in
kindergarten, dancing at a recital at what appeared to be about 8 years
old, as a cheerleader in about the 6th grade, and what appeared to be a
recent photo of me in a bikini at the beach. I haven't taken a good
look at my new body yet, so that photo shook me a bit. The girl in the
pic was really cute, with not a bad body for her young age. That's what
my mind first told me, and then it sank in that it really was me.
How could I get back to normal? The prof said I couldn't risk altering
more history by returning to 1984. As much as I want to try anyway, his
theory makes too much sense. I'd have to literally find a way to cause
my parents to have sex on a specific night at a specific time to make
me what I'd been before. The impossibility of it all was a big letdown.
Am I stuck as Amy? It appears that is the case.
As I was thinking all this through, the phone rang. It was the Middle
School asking about my absence. Having been in college for two years,
I'd forgotten that public schools check up on absentees. I simply told
them I was out sick. I guess I kind of was.
When I found my room, it was not at all like what I'd had before. Now,
I was sharing a room with Lynn, the next to the youngest girl in our
family. It was a pretty typical place for teenaged girls. Very girly,
which I assumed was normal for a thirteen year old, somewhere between a
little girl's place (LOTS of stuffed animals and a couple of dolls, the
latter of which looking more like displays than playthings), and
a young woman (makeup and perfume on the vanity). My dresser was full
of exactly what I expected, but still sort of wished wouldn't be there
- colorful panties and bras, and several other undergarments I don't
even have names for. My closet had more clothes than I could ever wear.
My mom hadn't changed when it came to fashion. She'd always desired
that her daughters be popular, so everything was the latest trend.
Plenty of skirts and dresses (I hoped I wouldn't be wearing those
anytime soon), and a few pair of jeans and short khaki's (I think
they're called Capri's). Talk about accessories! Amy has tons of
sparkling belts, necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.
I don't really know what to do with all this information. I have no
knowledge of who my friends are, what classes I'm taking at school, how
to act and dress and now I can't even drive! That's a real bummer. The
prof says I should live the life until we can find an alternative. I
think he's right. If I tell mom and dad who I really am, I'll end up in
some nut house. Besides, Amy is all they've ever known. Something I've
learned already about time travel is if you alter reality, whatever it
becomes truly is reality. The reality is that Mark Bradsworth has never
existed! That hurts to write.
But how can I step into a new life and appear normal? The emotions I am
feeling right now are almost overwhelming. Great - I am actually crying
now. That's something I haven't done in years. Damn. I hope it's just
the crush of such an unexpected change that has me in tears and not
some stupid hormonal girl thing.
I also haven't changed clothes yet. I'm just not ready for what I know
I'm going to see. I have had to pee a couple of times, but frankly, I
left the light off in the bathroom. I know what you're thinking, and
yes, I did have to sit. Wiping was the strangest, most alien feeling I
have ever had. If a simple trip to the 'ladies' room could be so
traumatic, I dread actually taking a shower and putting on fresh
clothes (both of which I have to do today). Despite my young age, I do
have female breasts. They feel huge, but look pretty normal in the
mirror. My waist is very thin as are my arms. My hands are almost,
shall I say, "dainty"? The nails are just a little longer than the tips
of my fingers, and they are painted pink. Imagine that. Sooner or
later, I'm going to have to take inventory of everything under my
clothes, but right now that freaks me out a little too much.
Amy appears to be clearly quite comfortable as a girl and in her
femininity. I don't even know how to put on a bra, so I have a lot to
learn. Aside from the fact that I don't want to learn, I am really in a
mess.
Oh my gosh... the front door just opened and my mom is calling my name!
