She was simply ecstatic.
How long had it been since his latent power had first called to her?
From that moment forward, she had coveted him for her growing group.
Now she had him. And he'd even come to her appropriately packaged.
It had all been far easier than she had ever imagined it would be.
Even though her old adversary had easily been the more powerful, he'd
still been a fool. He'd always been a total fool. It certainly
wasn't her fault that fools like him were so gullible and easily
manipulated.
She had only helped things along... a little bit.
As much as she had always wanted him to become a part of her group,
there had been next to nothing she could do about enlisting him while
he remained his best friend. Fool or not, he'd watched over him like
a mother hawk. She simply had never had enough power to confront him
face to face. Subterfuge was her specialty. She knew that she could
have never incorporated him into her group without facing his wrath.
Wasn't it so nice of the fool to deliver the prize she's so long
desired gift-wrapped?
She had known what he was like; she had always known what he was like.
Creating an attraction between any two individuals of opposing sexes
had never been difficult for her. However, removing anything that he
might have traced back to her had been trickier business. Fortunately
for her, her actions had gone unnoticed. What she'd done had simply
been beneath his notice. But it had been strong enough to attain her
desired goal.
The result was quite simple. The fool was so predictable. He had
felt betrayed by his best friend and his lover, just as she had
planned. It hadn't been that difficult. She had been somewhat
surprised with the ease of her plan's execution.
Her girls had also played an integral part in her plan. They had all
been quite excited about helping out. None of them liked sitting on
the sidelines. They had always enjoyed being involved in her schemes.
Of course, it hadn't hurt that they had never liked him very much. He
had never been a likable man. He had strange ideas about girls. But
those very ideas of his had played a large role in putting her plan
together. She'd played to his fantasies. The girls had been thrilled
when she had told them they would be cheerleaders for a while. None
of them had been too excited about having to act dumber than a fence
post. But she had convinced them that their act was absolutely
essential. Reluctantly, they'd agreed. They had all played their
roles so convincingly.
She and her half-dozen girls had been in the mall that day. Unknown
to him, she'd been watching the two of them closely. Her girls had
been simply wonderful as cheerleaders. They'd especially liked that
part where the young men had joined them in the movie line. They
always liked being seen with handsome young studs.
She had watched him slowly change from a man into a woman. No one
had observed her watching something play out that no one else, aside
from a former best friend hell-bent on an unnecessary revenge, could
actually witness. She'd almost forgotten herself and jumped for joy,
when he'd made that first step past half way that marked his point
of no return.
She had watched him join the rest of her girls. She'd warned them all
to make no fuss when the new girl entered the movie line behind them.
They'd have a party to welcome her into the fold later. But first,
she wanted them all to enjoy the movie and the company of their young
men.
The fool had made her work so much easier. His former best friend now
liked men instead of the ladies preferred by her former male self.
She would have altered his preferences in a similar manner had it been
necessary. Of course, it would have taken her longer, but the final
result would have been much the same.
Unfortunately, the fool had left his former best friend's mind intact.
She clearly remembered the man she'd once been, even though she could
never act on that knowledge or tell anyone of her plight. She had to
be as everyone thought she was. That knowledge caused her pain that
no one else would ever be allowed to observe. It was his sole intent
in allowing her to retain the knowledge of her past. He wanted her to
suffer.
But she could - and would - help her new girl through the pain. She'd
always helped her new girls adjust to their new lives. And this new
one also had latent power to develop.
Within a month at the most, the knowledge of her former life would no
longer cause her any pain whatsoever. As it had been with all her
other girls, she would never forget having been born male. It was
a part of her. However, that one little fact would simply become
something so totally and completely meaningless to her as to be
inconsequential.
A few days later, she returned alone to the mall to watch their
confrontation. Unless he'd sensed another's hand in the mix - always
a viable possibility - he'd likely be wondering why he'd dealt with
his friend before dealing with girl, who was the cleverer of the pair.
Forewarned, she had chance, even though it was a slim one. Yet slim
was far superior to none.
He arrived ahead of her. With his arrival, she had been surprised.
Although she had long suspected he had the power, she still could not
believe that he had transformed himself as he had. He made such a
comely young wench. Yet despite outward appearances, he was still he.
Had he become someone other than he, the girl might have made an
interesting addition to her merry band. He would want to take control
and she had no real desire to become involved in any power struggle.
He looked nervous.
He'd always been impatient.
If she'd had any doubts about recruiting him, they'd vanished once
that young man had approached him. Clearly, the rather ordinary young
man had believed what his eyes had told him. How could he have known
that the attractive and apparently unattached young female he tried
picking up was actually a shallow, vindictive man?
The change had been instantaneous.
Where a young man had been standing now stood a voluptuous blond with
a vacant look in her lovely blue eyes. The new girl giggled for a few
seconds, then ran off into the milling crowd of the mall. She doubted
it would take the new girl long to find what she was after.
She wondered what kinds of thoughts now raced through the new girl's
head. Knowing her adversary as well as she did, the girl probably had
an odd mixture of conflicting thoughts originating from both her
former male thoughts and what he felt were the appropriate female
thoughts of someone so busty. The fool was just so predictable.
Then his former girlfriend arrived.
She hadn't come alone.
In her company was a boy.
Why had she brought a small boy with her?
She must know what he was capable of doing.
He, of course, was livid. Even if it didn't show, she knew her old
adversary well. His former best friend hadn't been gone long and his
former girlfriend had already replaced the turncoat with a boy. And
a very young boy at that. She knew it had to stick in his craw.
However, whenever he tried positioning himself, the boy always seemed
to be in the way. She wondered how the girl could be so lucky. She
also wondered how long it would be before he did something to the boy.
He wasn't a patient man.
The abrupt change in his tactics surprised her. It wasn't like him at
all. As he approached the pair, she realized he was using his altered
form to get closer to them. It seemed a clever plan, even though she
had never considered cleverness one of his strong points. And he was
certainly closer to them than he could have otherwise been.
He smiled at the girl.
The girl smiled back at him.
She, on the other hand, recognized immediately that he had already
defeated the girl.
At that point, a hand grabbed his arm. He was clearly stunned by the
act. No one ever interfered with him. It was never a wise move to
challenge the fool. And yet, the boy held him in a vise-like grip
that he simply couldn't break.
Who was this boy?
The boy confidently stared at the fool.
Not to be outdone, the fool stared back at the boy. He was furious;
she could tell. However, once their gazes had met, the boy let loose
his grip on the fool's arm. For some inexplicable reason, the fool
made no move. He just stood there quietly as the lad placed his hand
across the fool's forehead. Oddly, the fool appeared to relax.
Who was this boy?
He spoke to the fool - what she couldn't tell - but the fool refused
to speak back. And then abruptly, a lengthy discourse began between
them. Once their exchange ended, she knew not what had transpired
with any great certainty. However, something seemed different than
it had been before.
The boy had done something that she'd long considered impossible.
The fool had been changed. It certainly seemed a change for the
better. But could she be sure of that?
What had they been talking about?
What had the boy done to him?
Just who the hell was that boy anyway?
He examined himself thoroughly. She didn't know why.
Did he know something had changed?
It seemed unlikely.
He looked around.
She wondered what he was looking for until she noticed the boy was
gone. She hadn't seen him leave. It was as if he'd simply vanished
into thin air without leaving a trace. Something about that boy
worried her.
When her attention returned to she who had been him and she who had
been his girlfriend, what she sensed startled her. They were lovers
once again. That they were lesbian lovers made no difference to
either of them. Why should it? Love was love and the world needed
all the love it could find.
She could sense that some of the other people in the mall were
appalled by their show of affection for one another. That was just
the way some people were. Some people just wouldn't be happy until
the whole world thought exactly they did.
It was only then that she realized what was different about them.
Neither girl - he was certainly one of the girls now - exhibited any
power. She could sense nothing from either of them. She hadn't
scanned the girl when she'd first arrived, but she knew of her
capabilities from past experience.
Where had their power gone?
It was so obvious.
The boy must have taken their power and made it his own. In all
likelihood, the boy had taken the girl's power long before they'd
arrived at the mall. That was why he'd been so fearless in dealing
with him. He might have looked the part of a small boy, but he was
definitely no mere small boy. Just how much power did the boy
actually have at his command? Just what was he?
Suddenly from out of the blue, she knew that the boy was following
his own agenda.
She nervously looked around the mall.
As she decided she should leave the mall immediately and possibly
never return, she could only hope that the odd boy hadn't seen her
watching from the shadows.
