This is Bobbie. This is the story of Little Belle's and Little Bill's
first birthday.
It takes place shortly before Nicole and I went to Well's College.
It was the Fourth of July. Nicole and I had parade duty. Nicole was
helping the police with crowd and traffic control. I was in the parade.
I was driving one of the patrol cars. I saw Larry on the Wellman
Clinic's float. Nicole told me that Belle asked Larry come along to aid
her. She wanted Larry as Laurie and to sing. She had talked Larry into
singing in front of the review stand Lee Greenwood's "I am Proud To Be
An American." I don't how she did that, but I am glad she did. I am
also glad he wore a T-shirt, jeans and running shoes.
The parade was about to start. I felt woozy and crampy. I thought I
could last. I was sipping on cool water. It seemed to help. I had moved
my car into position. I started to roll forward. I got a hundred feet.
I got major cramps. I hit the breaks and put the car in park. I had a
hard time seeing. I was crying out in pain. Then Larry was at my side.
He asked, "Hey Bobbie? What is wrong?"
I said, "It's time. Find Barry. He will be in sympathetic labor."
Larry said, "It is too late for that. Your water broke. I can get you
to Salem General from here in ten minutes or less."
I asked, "How can you do that?"
Larry said, "I know a few short cuts. Now move over please."
I did as Larry asked. Larry said, "No time for protocol."
Picking up the radio he said, "Nicole find Barry. Bobbie says it's
time. Meet us at Salem General."
Nicole came back, "Larry are you for real? I am with Barry right now.
He is doubled over in pain."
Larry said, "Bobbie has told me that Barry is in sympathetic labor. Get
him to the hospital. Also bring Wild Bill. I will be at the hospital in
ten minutes."
Larry hit the lights and popped the siren. The crowd moved out his way.
He turned off the parade route. Then drove car one block over and
turned to the hospital. He said, "Bobbie your cell phone please?"
I gave it over. He went to the speed dial and called my Aunt. He also
called the hospital from memory. I did not want to tell him that Salem
General monitors the police radios. He drove straight to the ER. He put
me in a wheel chair. He even wheeled me to the Admission Desk to sign
me in.
Just as he was signing me in, a member of the Salem Police tried to
arrest Larry. Nicole had Barry and was going to sign him in. Larry
tossed the keys to the patrol car to Nicole.
Nicole said, "Thanks Larry." Then she turned to Salem Officer and said,
"Hey Jim. Ease up a bit. The car was not stolen. It was always in
control of the Sheriff's Department. Besides this is a medical
emergency."
Jim said, "Alright. I hate paper work anyhow."
Larry said, "Thank you Jim. Thank you Nicole."
My doctor came and put both Barry and me in the same room. Barry was
placed in a bed and was given a cold compress.
Nicole was holding my hand. She was my Lamaze Coach. We both knew that
Barry would not be able to handle it. Dr. Busch gave Barry the ability
to feel my pregnancy. I had a minor complication.
Dr. Elizabeth Crocker said, "Bobbie. You son is very large and is
blocking the way out for both children. I can perform a C Section or I
can irrigate you."
I said, "Try irrigation first please."
Dr. Crocker said, "Alright now, this will be gentle."
Larry said, "Barry try this. Do exactly what Bobbie does when she does
it. It might ease your pain."
Dr. Crocker looked at me. She knew what Barry was going through and
said, "Hey it can't hurt to try. For Barry, it is all in his mind and
not real. If he thinks he is delivering a baby, then let him act it
out."
For some reason when Barry followed Nicole's coaching, it made it
easier for me. Both William and Belladonna Remington popped out when
both Barry and I worked together. Belle later told me that it was a
mental backwash from the connection Bary and I had in our minds. Dr.
Busch's treatment was too good.
Dr. Crocker had put both Barry and me in the same room. Both my Aunt
and Uncle visited me. Bill had a large tray of food. It was a selection
from the Bar B Que Barry, Nicole, Larry, and I missed
Nicole said, "You did not have to do this."
Larry said, "Speak for yourself Nicole. Hospital food stinks. I know."
I said, "Both of you are right. But thank you Uncle Bill."
Barry said, "It is too bad you could have not brought some beer."
Bill said, "There is even some areas I won't cross. You can do all that
stuff in the morning when you take your family home."
Nicole said, "Sorry Bill. I have to return the patrol car and get my
car. I can use Barry's or Bobbie's car."
Larry said, "Nicole, take me to my Aztec and use that. It can work. It
does smell like beer, Ziller, and Kong. Then you do a little
babysitting as Bobbie and Barry get a mini van or a station wagon."
I said, "Hey Barry. Why did you not get one sooner?"
Barry said rather sleeplessly, "I thought I had another three weeks. I
forgot that you always were a fast person. I will be able to pick up a
mini van in two weeks. I ordered it new. I traded my sports car. You
get to keep your SUV."
I said, "Thank you for the offer Larry. But Nicole should use my Jimmy.
It already has the car seats in it. Now go home you two. Get your cars
and some rest."
Larry said, "Hey Bobbie."
I said, "Hey what?"
Larry said, "You can always tell your children that some of the
fireworks are for them."
Nicole and both rolled our eyes. Nicole said, "Larry, you must have
taken some humor lesson's from Bobbie."
The next day Nicole did pick up Barry, Little Bill, Little Belle, and
me. I said, "Thanks Nicole. What did Andy say?"
Nicole said, "He was mad that Larry drove the patrol car. He is glad
that you have two healthy babies. He is also glad that Larry did get
you to hospital in time. He is having Larry clean the car. Knowing
Larry, it will smell like an orange grove for a month when he gets
done. When Larry asked why, Andy said he could have used the radio to
get the ambulance."
I said, "Well he is right there except for what Larry did. Larry did
get me to the hospital faster. I know the EMT's would have tried, but
they are not trained to that level. I needed Barry to get them out and
into the world. I will talk with Andy. Besides, a nice smelling car
will only last two days. You have Nightwatch this week. A drunk or a
crack head will mess it up by then."
Nicole said, "Oh crap. I forgot. Your right Bobbie. Plus Jenkins likes
those cheap cigars. I can deal with the cigars, if he smoked the good
ones. And you will be out for two weeks."
I said, "I know. Since Barry can work at home."
Nicole said, "It is too bad I am not like you."
I asked, "Why do you say that?"
Nicole said, "Then I could take the car home for the time until you
could come back."
Barry asked, "Hey is that breaking the law some how?"
I said, "No. I will just tell Andy that Larry will help keep it clean."
Sure enough Major Jackson went for it. He did say, "Larry only had to
clean it once and he did that already. He even added some air
freshener."
I asked Nicole, "Why did Larry say his car would smell like beer?"
Nicole said, "He transports test products in it, as well as raw
products. He airs it out twice a month."
Well I got go now. My Aunt wants Andy, Nicole, and me in her office for
a meeting. She did say it is very important.

P.S. This from Bobbie. Thinking back as I write this, I am glad that I
was back on duty in two weeks. Our adventure at Well's College might
have ended differently.
