Nicole's New Home
Hello everyone. This is Nicole again. Here is a strange tale.
I just got home from work and my car was acting up. I had made an
appointment to have looked at by my mechanic. I went to my fridge and
took out a steak. I was going to cook it for dinner with a salad. I put
a dry rub on the steak and put it back in the icebox. I also pulled ten
trout from the freezer and placed them in the fridge. I had planned to
have Bobbie, Barry, Helga, and Larry for supper on Friday.
I went to me bedroom and stripped. I also stepped into my shower. I was
all soaped up when I heard two large blasts. Wrapping a towel around
me, I ran out my house. It was on fire. So was my garage. With the
exception of my boat and what was on it, everything I owned went up in
the flames. My brother and his wife got a hold of me. Helga said,
"Nicole, I have called 911. Larry is wetting down our place. Come
inside and relax." (Larry and Helga live one hundred yards from me.)
I was led inside. I rinsed myself off. Larry gave me a set of running
shoes, socks, a Salem State T-shirt, and a pair of blue jeans. The T-
shirt had the Salem State Skunk in a hockey get up on it, also a bra
and a pair of panties. Larry joked, "Nicole, this time you get to raid
my closet." I had to laugh. I also put them on.
The Salem Police and Fire Departments came. Jo Friday came to me. I
could tell her only what I heard. After that, nothing. Jo asked, "Do
you need a place to stay?"
I said, "I have my boat."
Larry said, "Nonsense Nicole. You can stay with me. Besides the marina
will close in six weeks."
I had to admit one thing. Larry had a point. Jo said, "I know you or
your brother had nothing to do with this. This is a case of arson and
assault. Call Hedi. You may need her. Do you have any enemies or anyone
who might want to get at you?"
I said, "I don't know Jo. I am a cop. Just like you."
Jo said, "That maybe so, but I do know you have hit on some strange
cases."
Larry asked, "Is there anything you need more?"
Jo said, "Not for now, however do call Hedi. If this turns bad, I want
you to have some protection."
I said, "Thanks Jo. I will give you any info that I come across."
Larry said, "Nicole did you eat yet?"
I said, "No I did not. I am so so keyed up, that I forgot about
eating."
Helga said, "Well we were about to have a venison stew with rolls and a
salad. Apple pie for desert. Larry made the stew last fall and I put it
in the freezer. I thawed it out and put in a slow cooker for tonight."
Larry said, "I like leaving quick meals for Helga. When the cows or
horses give birth, I know she can get a good meal without fuss. I don't
try to compete with the farmer's wives. They make better pies and
cakes."
I said, "Throw in some Hot Chocolate and it will sound grand."
Helga said, "Alright Nicole."
The meal was great. Larry also laced my Hot Chocolate with
Kirschwasser. (German Style of Cherry Brandy.) Larry put me in his
guest room. He also left me some of his 'Laurie' clothing. Well at
least I had something to wear. I also would look well. Larry does have
some taste. I will admit that I wanted to get drunk. I also knew I
needed a clear mind for the next few days.
The next day I had to report to Major Jackson. After telling him the
same things I told Sgt. Friday, I had to fill out the paper work about
my badge and guns. Both my duty gun and my Glock were ruined. That was
a major pain in the butt. Bobbie came to me and asked, "How are you
doing Nicole?"
I said, "I am trying to hold everything together. As soon as I get the
insurance check, I am going to rebuild my house and garage. Larry is
letting me stay with him. He won't charge me rent, so I am babysitting
for him and Helga."
Bobbie said, "Sounds like you have a plan. Can I take you to lunch?"
I said, "Alright. But can we stop at Irving's Cleaning Service? I have
two uniforms there."
Bobbie said, "You won't need them today. Andy wants me to get you to
unwind and drunk. He actually made it an order. So unless you're
pregnant, we are going to the Irish Inn."
I said, "I was pregnant. I miscarried. That hurts as much as this
does."
Bobbie said, "Then let's do it. Call Larry and Helga so they won't
worry."
I did call Larry. Then I said, "Bobbie, Larry said forget the Irish. He
had set up his spa for us today. He will let me have a 'Laurie'
swimsuit. He is thinking along the same lines as Andy is."
Bobbie said, "That sounds good. We will still do lunch and get your
uniforms. Andy ordered a complete issue for you. So the two that you
have will be spares."
I called Larry back. I told him of Bobbie's plans. Larry said, "That is
okay Nicole. Barry and Hedi will be here. Helga, Barry, Hedi, and me
will cut cards to see gets to be the role of designated driver."
After lunch and talking with Wild Bill, we went to Larry. When we got
to Larry's place, Barry and Hedi were already there. Barry had put
Little Bill and Little Belle in the playpen with Nicky and Helen. Larry
had Bobbie remove her pistol and Larry put it in his gun locker. Larry
collected antique firearms. He picked that habit up from Grandpa. He
did say, "Nicole, I know you must carry off duty. Use this one for now.
If you like it, I will sell it to you at cost. Bobbie can show you how
to use it. I have two, along as a deer rifle that shoots the same
ammo."
Bobbie said, "Larry you do have taste. That is a.44-40 six shooter. I
bet that deer rifle is a lever action."
Larry said, "Your right Bobbie. I can also restore or repair firearms."
Larry relocked the pistol in his gun locker. I would use it.
We heard the doorbell ring. It was Jo Friday in uniform. She had a
large black box. It was my old wall safe. I opened it. I could not
reclose it. The stuff I put in there was usable. When I get my house
fully rebuilt, I would use the same company but an upgraded model. I
did say, "Thanks Jo. Larry and Bobbie are trying to get me drunk and
relax. They want me to unwind."
Jo said, "That is good Nicole. You need it. Larry do you mind if I stop
in later?"
Larry said, "No I do not. Bring your swimsuit and take a cab. Barry is
playing the role of designated driver."
Well we started the spa fest. Larry had everything just right. He even
tuned in a Jazz station on his radio. He also dressed as Laurie for it
and sang some 'scat' style music. It was fun. Jo stopped by and brought
two bottles of Merlot. She also made moves on me. I did not mind. Larry
said, "Jo I know you mean well. Nicole is not ready or able to say yes
or no to you. Please wait for her to say yes or no."
Jo said, "You are right Laruie. I will only cuddle her for now. She
needs that."
Larry said, "You're right Jo. But please be careful. Her mind is so
fragile."
I did like Jo's attentions. Jo took me to my bed. She only wore a T-
shirt and panties. I wore a Sleep Shirt. Jo did only cuddle me. I loved
it. Before I fell asleep in her arms, she told me, "Nicole I know
you're Bisexual like me."
Two days later Jo came to me off the clock. She told me two things. The
first was, "We got the one who burned your place. Your attacker was
after Larry. As Laurie, Larry turned him down. He followed Laurie to
your place. Larry kept your place well."
I asked, "What else is there Jo?"
She said, "I love you Nicole."
I said, "And love you too Jo."
Larry came me and said, "One night stands in a bedroom is fine. I know
Jo is looking for a new place. Her place is going condo and she can't
afford it. If you had not come home Nicole, I would have rented out
your place to her."
Jo said, "That sounds fine Larry, but can you get to the point."
Larry said, "I talked this over with Helga. We have a mother-in-law
type apartment attached to this place. Right now we use it for storage.
You pay the utilities, phone, and cable. Plus a small rental fee.
Nicole can have it until she can rebuild her place."
Jo said, "That sounds good Larry. Now why did you make both Bobbie and
I lock up our guns the other night?"
I said, "Larry is playing safe. With the exception of that punt gun, he
locks all his guns up. His kids can't get hurt that way. All ammo is
also locked up in a separate locker in another room. The punt gun is
kept empty and is hung over the mantle on his fireplace in an air tight
and locked case. In truth, I told him to do that."
Jo said, "That is good. Now why did you turn down that guy?"
Larry said, "Two reasons. First I am married to a wonderful lady. The
other is I am, straight. I am not Gay or Bi. I can look and act like a
woman. But that all it is, an act. Laurie is a roll for me and not my
life. I do Laurie every now and again for fun and to raise funds for
charity."
Jo said, "Plus to aid others when you cannot reach them as Larry. There
were a few cases that the sheriff's department has called us after you
called them. Major Domo wants to give status with us like you have with
the sheriff's department. I am also surprised that Hedi did not land
you."
Larry said, "Men and women are like good wine. A Merlot is a very good
wine. So is a Chianti. I like them both. Hedi is like a Merlot. Helga
is like a Chianti. It was just a matter of taste."
Helga grabbed Larry from behind and kissed him. She said, "Not the best
way of saying it, but on target. Is that is why you keep a bottle of
Ruffino Classico Reserve with my picture on it on your desk unopened?"
(Larry told me that he hopes he never has to open it. He will only open
it if Helga dies before him.)
Larry said, "Yes it is. Like you, it is top notch."
Larry and Helga kissed again. I said, "Uh Jo, if we do this, we must be
careful. Salem may be tolerant of different lifestyles, but our bosses
may not be. We may have to get a 'beard'."
Jo asked, "What is a 'beard'?"
Larry said, "Besides the facial hair on an adult male, it is a term
from Homosexual community for a escort of the opposite sex, used as a
cover for the straight world for things like weddings and company
events. For example, if both of you went to the Policeman's Ball with
Henry, you could say he is more man than one gal could handle."
Both Jo and I rolled our eyes. I said, "Larry you are a nut! But yes it
could work. At least for Jo. Henry and Howie were like Jim Beam and
Jack Daniels. Both are good, it is just a matter of taste."
Jo said, "We may not need to worry along those lines. Before Bobbie met
Barry, we dated. We have remained friends. We also do lunch once a
week."
One week later, Jo came by Larry's house. She said, "Larry, I decided
to take your offer on that apartment. Even if Nicole won't take me. I
can also baby-sit if you need me."
Larry said, "You will have to deal with Nicole. She made the same
offer."
I said, "Larry have Hedi draw up a lease. Jo and I can spilt the cost.
Plus you can have two babysitters, if you need them. Now lets go to the
back porch."
Jo said, "What for Nicole?"
Larry said, "That is because she has two things. The first is a large
bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. The other is some cigars. Helga will me
let smoke a cigar or two, but only outside and away from the children.
She only put up with it inside the other day for that spa fest."
Jo said, "Then lets go to the back porch. Besides a cigar and a drink
is a great way to talk over a deal."
Hedi did draw the lease. It was fair. Jo is a great friend and
housemate. She also gives a good outside point of view for my job. Well
I got to go now. My job awaits.
