Seven
After four months of working everyday without a break, Jackie and Ellen
took a day so Jackie could visit an optometrist due to her burning eyes.
The doctor told her it was severe eye strain and ordered her to stop

her eyes. Ellen bought the same only in a light blue. It cost them over

"You two are under arrest for dressing like females," a voice said to

"Baby, this is the safest place in the world for you. The asshole is
probably miles from here. Most crooks don't stick around and wait for

"See you later," Jackie smiled.
"Come down to the Parrot, you chicks are missed down there," Allie

"You buy us some drinks?" Ellen joked.

Their soup and hot sandwiches were cold so Ellen returned to the counter

"We're still doing our research. That'll take another year or less then
we've got to compare notes. I'll write a rough draft. Ellen here, if she
can keep her hands to herself, will correct all the misspellings and
grammatical errors. Then I'll write the final part for publishing."
"Hell, does that take so long?" Allie asked.
"It's not easy work," Ellen stated.
"The only book Allie understands is 'see Dick run, see Jane run, see

Once back home, as Jackie was upstairs relieving her bladder, Ellen was

'Sylvia was in a lot of pain. However the morphine eased her agony
greatly. I took care of my sister almost exclusively. The doctor only

'It was February when we finally left Mexico. There was just more than
half of the morphine left which I gave to the doctor for his next
patient. I was happy that I purchased too much than too little. I wrote
him a check for fifty thousand dollars and we were on our way home. Only
this time the train wasn't as dirty as the one we arrived in. Still as
we crossed the border into Brownsville, we badly needed to bathe.
'We checked into a nice hotel in Brownsville for a few days. Bathing

roast beef and mashed potatoes which was the best food except for Mrs.
Feinstein's brisket of beef she learned to cook in Germany. Then we got

With traffic being so heavy, it took them six hours to get to where they
were going. Once in the quaint motel room, both took showers, made love

blouses before leaving to have a good dinner.
Both were so tired from the long day and evening, they just got
undressed and went to bed with Ellen spooning Jackie. It was a hot and
humid night and the air conditioning felt wonderful.
They planned to stay a week but after a trip on the boat seeing the
Upper Dells and Lower Dells, another ride on the Ducks, then spending a
day at the water park, both agreed that too much of a good thing was
enough. They checked out early and returned home. They stopped at the
local supermarket to stock up on groceries and Ellen's oreos then went
home. Both anxious to get back to work.
'The weather in Honolulu was wonderful. There were parts of the city
that were run down and poverty ridden. We took a bus tour of the island.
A man with a megaphone pointed out all the interesting things. Our last
stop was at Pearl Harbor. We were impressed by an aircraft carrier and a
few other military ships berthed there. We took several snapshots on the
way there and were out of film by the time we got to the naval station.
In the years to come, I would remember this base because of what was to
come in less than five years from now.
'We met many mainland Americans. I think we were at the height of our
beauty then as many gentlemen asked us for dances when we went out at
night. We gladly accepted them all. Sylvia and me loved to dance. The
officers in the military looked dashing in their uniforms. Many made

Sylvia and me spent as much time gazing at the setting sun and how
beautiful everything looked from their veranda that we never wanted to
leave. Back at the hotel we reluctantly discussed going home now that it
was mid May and the weather in Chicago was
moderating. We even discussed moving out here, but it came to nothing.
"They were thinking of moving to Hawaii," Ellen said, reading from her
journal.
"Yeah, Sarah says the same. I think they regretted staying here," Jackie
stated.
"How far are we going to go with this?" Ellen asked. "If we go all the
way to the end of their lives, the size of the book will be like War and
Peace."
"You're right, I think we should go as far as the late 1950's then do
their highlights after that. You can only read too much of their love
affair and all that shit. I'm thinking of stopping when they go into
their self imposed exile. There won't be anything that interesting after
that."
"That means a few more months of reading and taking notes?"
"That's about it," Jackie answered.
