After Josh had gone to sleep Joanne slipped down the stairs and into
the Kitten Club. She made her way through the sparse crowd and into the
back where Pete had his office. She found him seated behind his ratty
metal desk one leg of which was propped up by two books. He was leaning
back in a worn leather executive chair of undeterminable color wearing
a dirty undershirt sucking on a cigar. The sweat stained shirt left his
hairy pot belly stomach in plain view along with his upper chest and
underarms. What was left of the hair on his head was tied off into a
greasy looking gray ponytail.
"Hey Joanne, whatcha doin' here?" he said in a gruff voice. "You ain't
supposta be here till Thursday."
As Joanne approached the desk, she noticed a movement down between
Pete's legs. Seeing her look, Pete responded, "Lil Roxie is paying off

"Well this is kind of private Pete," she began, but he waved her off by

A muffled sound came up from under the desk that Joanne couldn't

"Look Pete," she began. "I got a new kid upstairs right now. Just got

that he'd be just perfect for you. Got him in Ronnie's old room using

"Okay, tell you what Joanne," Pete said after taking a few puffs off
his cigar. "I get 75 percent of the take provided he's as good as you
say... n... I'll cancel your contract. However, if this kid flunks the
test, you go back to waitin' tables and work the private club for...

"Pete that's not fair. I've been working for you for eight years

The room was silent except for the noise coming from under Pete's desk
for several minutes. Finally Pete nodded then said, "Okay, but I'm

"No, I'll pay Doc directly for his services. Somehow the thought of you

Joanne was a little miffed at Pete, but all things considered, she
would come out alright. Even if she just got out of her performance
contract that would be a big relief. "So what if the kid had to suffer,
that was life and she deserved much better than she had received," she
thought as she entered her apartment. "Damn kid is kind of nice though.
Dumb as a brick when it comes to street smarts though. Forget the kid;
you gotta watch out for yourself Joanne no one else ever will." Before
going to bed, she checked to see that Josh was still sound asleep
listening to the mind altering tapes.

That next morning when Joanne woke him, Josh went into the bath and
without a second thought put on the pink plastic shower cap. Back in
the room, he put on the vivid blue satin high cut briefs and matching
bra with a smile on his face. They felt so soft and comforting on his
body. She handed him a pair of navy panty hose and as he reached to get
them, she pulled them back.
"Josh I think that these hose would look so much better on you if you
would shave your legs. While you do not have much hair, it is
noticeable through the hose. Why don't you go back into the bath and
shave your legs, chest and armpits. You would look so much better
without all that ugly hair."
Josh at first wanted to tell her no way and that guys didn't do that
sort of thing, but for some strange reason felt that he had to obey
her. He had to admit that the few blonde hairs that peeked over the
edges of his bra did make him look a little foolish and she was
probably right about his legs too. After some thought, he decided that
she was right. They both went back into the bath and after removing his
bra, shaved his body. Joanne helped him and then had him rub a flowery
smelling lotion on his body.
As they left the bath, she said, "Josh, you know it wouldn't be hard to
permanently remove all that unwanted facial hair. I have a good friend
that would be glad to do it for you. What do you say? We don't have
anything particular to do today."
"Err... I don't know Joanne. That sounds kinda permanent, besides I
need this facial hair. I look too childish as it is," he replied as he
absent mindedly stroked the scraggly hairs.
"Oh, come on do it for me sweetie. No one would really notice and you
will thank me when you get older and won't have to shave every day.
Look, why don't we both go to the salon and get the works? My treat and
I know that you will just love it. Do it for me, please," she said as
she stroked his face with her hand. "I don't like men with rough
stubble all over their faces and all my friends don't like it either.
You'd be a big hit with the girls."
When he looked up into her face, her broad smile melted away any
objections he might have had. "Err... are you sure that the girls will
like me better? They won't think that I'm just a sissy will they?"
"Oh no sweetie, it will make you all the more adorable. I would really
like it if you would do it just for me."
Josh felt like he couldn't refuse her anything and besides he justified
to himself that it would make her happy. Still there was a part of him
that rebelled at such a drastic step. "Look Joanne, I... I don't know
about getting rid of my mustache. I've been trying to grow it for
almost two years and it is just starting to look like one. After so
long it is just like a part of me and I don't want to get rid of it
just yet."
"Oh, well, if you insist Josh, but what about going to the salon with
me? You will really enjoy getting pampered. Once you have experienced a
day at the spa doing what girls do, it will broaden your knowledge of
girls and give you a great head start over other guys. No, don't look
at me like that. I'm being very serious. Look, you're going to have to
dress and act like a girl for a few more days or so... so why not take

Josh was confused, but her logic sounded reasonable. "As long as it's
nothing permanent Joanne. Are you sure that I can go back to being me?
This is totally stupid. How can I pass as a girl in a girl's beauty
salon? No way Joanne! They would make all kinds of fun of me and I
would be totally humiliated."
"Oh sweetie, you're so wrong," she said beaming from ear to ear. "At
least he hadn't refused out right so she had him on the brink of saying

"No one at either restaurant guessed that you weren't a girl and I
promise if there is just one titter of laughter or even a single
snicker, we will be so outta there that their heads will snap. Josh,

Again her arguments were good to Josh's way of thinking and he did feel
that he owed her big time. "If... if you're sure Joanne... Nothing
permanent now, promise?"
"Come on, I've got just the perfect outfit for you to wear today," she
replied while giving him a solid kiss on the lips.
Josh followed her back into his bedroom with a large smile of his own
plastering his face. Yet, deep down, there was a small voice screaming
at him from a distance far far away telling him to run for his life. As
he remembered the kiss, that inner voice faded into silence.
Back in the bedroom she handed him a royal blue poly blouse with
scooped neck and ruffles flowing down the front. A lined grey wool
skirt that came to mid thigh and a pair of navy two inch pumps
completed his outfit. After quickly applying blue eye shadow, mascara,
powder, and a dark red lipstick she gave him a matching clutch purse.
As he was dressing he had to admit that the clothing looked much better
now that his scraggily hair was gone. The pantyhose felt so silky and

Josh didn't really care to be called Kitten, but when she hugged him
close and kissed his forehead, how could he refuse. If Joanne wanted to
call him Kitten, then Kitten it was.

The salon was located just a few blocks away in a small strip mall. The
salon, "Treasured Tresses" anchored one end and a liquor store anchored
the other. There was a pizza place, pawn shop, and tattoo parlor
filling the rest of the spaces.
The salon wasn't exactly what he expected it to be. It was not a
bastion of femininity although the color scheme was feminine; pinks,
pale violets and white as there were several guys getting their hair
done. While they looked a little odd to Josh, in that they were wearing
flowered or soft pastel shirts, they seemed comfortable sitting in a
beauty parlor. The smells were different than he was use to in that
there was a prevailing aroma of ammonia mixed with sweet flowery scents
in the air. The equipment was a little different as he saw several
stand alone hairdryers with hard bonnets. Other than that, it was not
that different from the place he usually got his hair cut.
Soon he found himself draped in a pale pink smock and leaning back into
a wash basin. The stylist, Janet, was a good friend of Joanne's and was
friendly. She did not appear to notice that he was anything other than
Kitten a young girl getting the works. She kept up a general chatter
that was inane and didn't require any answers.
After his hair was shampooed, Janet soaked it in a vile smelling
solution, then wrapped his head in a towel and sat him back up. "While
that is setting, I'm going to give you a manicure. Joanne, do you want
me to add extensions?" Janet said.
It took about forty-five minutes to added three quarter inch acrylic
nail extensions and paint them a vivid lavender color. Josh wanted to
protest, but seeing the look on Joanne's face managed to keep quite.
With his nails done, his hair was rinsed out and again Janet put
something on his hair and then wrapped the ends in tin foil. He was
placed under the dryer for some time while Janet and Joanne talked off
to the side. A copy of "Seventeen" lay unopened in his lap.
He was removed from the dryer and taken back to the styling chair where
Janet began clipping around the fringes of his head to even up the
split ends she had said. Finally, she began sectioning and rolling his
hair onto medium sized rods and soaking them in another foul smelling
lotion. Telling him it wouldn't be much longer, she put him back under
the dryer and handed him the magazine. This time he flipped through it
and even read one article on "New Shades for That Perfect Summer Look."
At last, she finished brushing out his hair while Joanne looked on and
"oooohhhh" over how great he looked. Josh still hadn't seen his new do
as his face was kept away from looking into a mirror. "Just let me
finish up with your make up sweetie and we'll be all finished," Janet
informed him. "Then you can have a gander at just how beautiful you
turned out."
