Prelog:
Doctor CixLeeNen told DanLee and I that we were going to have a
child. The Doctor CixLeeNen had the next available name assignments from
the central computer. 'Le' was the next available. And as tradition
allowed as parents we got to pick the last letter, so we picked S. Our
baby would be named Les for their first syllable name.
Today was the first day of second year school.
Les thought that everyone had on the same uniform again this year but
a little darker. Every year it was always darker. Everyone wore the
same shirt and the long dress to their ankles and braids for their uncut
hair. That's because you could not cut your hair until you had a second
syllable in your name. But today was an even day, so Les and everyone
had to wear the bottom fully open and loose. It was so much nicer when
it was like that. Les could run and play really easy when pretending we
were Lees in the Lee room and play exciting games this way. On the odd
days when Les had to close up the bottom, Les could only take little tiny
steps. These were they days that we had to go to the Lyn room and
pretend that we were Lyns and talk about Lyn stuff the computer told us
to talk about. There were always assignments of what we were supposed to
talk about. Sometimes it was who was the cutest Lee in the next grade up
or the best Lee singer, and sometimes it was just who was the best (or
worst) at pretending to be a Lee when were in the Lee room and who played
the best Lee game yesterday. Sometimes it was to talk about who had the
prettiest Lyn dress on in the Lyn room that day. I liked the even days
when were allowed to go to the Lee room and play kick ball and other Lee
games the most.
Today was my last day of sixth grade.
It was my second syllable naming name I was afraid of what it would
be. I could be LesLee or LesLyn. It was a big event. Even my both my
parents were there. I rolled the big dice, and it landed on a pink side
up. I would be LesLyn.
That meant in seventh grade that I would no longer be able to play
kick ball in the Lee room anymore, but would only be able to play in the
Lyn room sitting and talking about Lyn stuff during recess. We would
still have to talk about stuff like who was the cutest Lee's and what to
wear and who was the best Lee music player and if we wanted to have
children and what tunnel we wanted to live in with our mate and all kinds
of things. I know because I listened to Lyns when they had recess with
us. Seventh grade Lyns also had to start wearing a new pink uniform with
a skirt that showed your knees and follow all kinds of other Lyn dressing
rules like wearing your hair long and loose. The Lees got to wear things
called pants that were blue and had to have their hair cut less than two
inches long. A lot of the Lyns didn't think the rules were fair.
On the way home we stopped at the supply depot. There my mom picked
out my new uniform. Almost everyone from school was there. The supply
depot seemed to be set up for us that day. A whole room was laid out
with just uniforms and tape measures. We didn't have to really check
our size, because the central computer told us what size we were to get.
The central computer always kept track of important things about the
people.
I wonder who my table circle would be on my way home. It was known
that all of the Lyn's would be assigned to a table circle to talk with
and become friends to. The Lee's would be assigned playing teams for all
of the games that they played. The Lyns were only allowed to watch them
now, never to play.
First day of ninth grade
Today all of the Lyns had to go to the Lyn Beauty Development
Department. We all had our first makeover. DenLyn got red nails but I
got pink ones and the only person that had to have a perm in my hair.
The central computer decided who got what the first time, other wise it
would have been a mad house with everyone trying to decide and pick on
the first day of school. Now in our circle we had to decide what we were
going to get next time, and tell the central computer. Although the
central computer some times messes up and makes mistakes. Cause CidLyn
wanted clear nails and no eyeliner, the central computer told the Lyn
Beauty Development Department to make CidLyn have bright red nail with
two inch extensions and changed his hair to blonde with it all curly.
CidLyn also wasn't allowed to watch anymore Lee Games after that, but had
to do extra recess and home work on art, beauty and Lyn beauty styles for
grownups. I got the hint and never asked for anything close to natural,
but had my nails always pink, and added blond streaks in my hair. I like
watching the Lee games to much to miss them and I didn't like any of the
homework that CidLyn had to do.
11th year mid assignment day
Today was my work assignment day. I would be changing to different
work assignments every month now. It was to see what work for each Lyn
in our class did best. The Lees had to do it to but they had different
assignments, like working with the food animals shoveling the do-do
(yuck), or cleaning the air recycle centers (double yuck), or being on a
ruling council. It was jobs that only Lees were allowed to do. The work
council would then pick who was the best for what job based on what work
needed the most attention and help. It was not always who did the best
work, but where each person did the best for the whole. Lyns could be a
typing job for one of the Lee managers or a go-fer for them or his
personal helper, but never a manager of course. The assigned job could
be a home maker job. Those were the most fun because you then got to
select what charities or garden clubs that you could work on then (with
the approval of you Lee and the ruling councils involved of course). And
of course it would mean that you might watch the kids of the other Lyns
that had to work. Some Lyns were chosen to be teachers of the younger
children, but that required additional training. Lyns might have one of
the disgusting jobs like street walker. Not often, as some Lyns
preferred that instead of staying with there assigned mates for some
reason or another.
Last day of 12th grade. My third syllable naming day.
This day it would be who my mate was going to be. I hoped that it
was a confused Lee and not a real Lee, That's because I was a confused
Lyn, A dirty name but I grew accustom to the vulgar name calling, there
was no way around it. That way we would be one of the couples that could
have children. I knew that one half of the people would not be able to
have children because they were the same sex put together. I hoped my
other half would be able to. And in fact be required to have the
required 2 children (Unless they were picked to have the very exceptional
third child, to stabilize the controlled population). I often talked
about who I would like for my Lee when talking the table within my
circle. Half of the Lees were confused, so it was always considered
acceptable to want one for your mate. But none of the Lees were allowed
to ever be in the Lyn room after they were given the second syllable it
was just us younger Lyn's and the single syllable children learning to be
either Lees or Lyns.
Some times a Lee and Lyn didn't get along together at all especially
the ones that could not have children. After today my mate would be who
I would spend the rest of my life with. Unless they died, or had
disappeared. Sometimes when that happened the ruling council would make
them switch places, or even make they split apart and also switch, but
they would then never be able to have children or be apart of a family,
or ever be able to child sit for someone else. They were also then given
the worst of jobs that made them stay all by them self's as much as
possible. It was a real disgrace for them. It didn't happen often but
it did. I just hoped that it didn't happen to my mate or me.
The computer made us all line up in front of its slot. It then gave
us each a slip of paper when our turned came. Paper was really very
scarce. It always is something that people kept for ever. It would hold
not only our mate, but also where we were to be living together from now
on. It also had our schedule of work and where and school classes for
the next quarter. Some of the Lees and most of the Lyns ahead of me was
breaking down and crying. I promised that I wouldn't break down like
them.
My mate was listed as XacLee in tunnel X3-R95. So my new name was
now LesLynXac. Forever mated to someone that I don't even know. I broke
down and started to cry.
After a while we were returned to our seats. Then about half of the
class was called to follow this other teacher into another room. When
they were gone our teacher then told us that were now going to have sex
education about our mates. One had to take care of their mate sexual
needs.
Our teacher stated in no uncertain terms *Because it is private to
each of use you will find the instructions on the back of your page. If
you have any questions please write them down and leave room for me to
answer them. There should be no talking or sharing now. The class was
divided in half so that there would be time to answer all of your
question before you go and meet your life mate. Some of you have been
assigned someone that is in a younger grade that you. If that is the
case you will not under any form tell them. Wait until they have been
given their assignment. Some of you have been assigned to someone that
is in a grade that has already graduated. They will be waiting for you.
Please read over your instructions five times until you have it
memorized
completely.*
*You are not required to go to your new apartments just yet. You my
and should go home today. In fact I suggest that you do. But by the end
of the week you are expected to be in your new apartment.
I started to read my instructions. They were instructions on how to
please a person with child bearing facilities. And since I was a person
with the personal facilities to produce the required biological starting
functions that would mean that we would be one of the selected couples
that might be allowed to have children. I was elated. My assignment was
to be a home maker with instructions that it would change in the future
after more schooling. I was instructed that I would also be attending
sections of instruction in other Lyn functions that would be required for
the functions of my Lee and me. I was delighted about that. I of
course
had to call up a picture of my future mate on my class room computer
screen. I knew that it was not allowed, but I was sure that everyone
was doing the same thing. There was my Lee with the required short hair
cut and the pants that all Lees wore. I read that my Lee was on a
number of ruling councils and in charge of the genetic records of
everyone. I knew that that was one of the most important jobs that there
was. And XecLee did it all at such a young age. Yes I guess that I was
going to like my Lee a lot.
After school I hurried home to tell my mother about my excitement.
Mom was so pleased with it. Mom also wanted to look up XecLee on the
home computer. Mom said that we would go well together. Mom also said
that we should ask my new XecLee if we should have a formal party with
vows of devotion said. That was an old tradition that was fading. It
was something that all Lyns use to have. I asked what it was. She said
that a long time ago before there was to many people that Lee's would ask
a Lyn to marry them and if they said yes, then a special party was held
where the Lee formally asked there Lyn to have and hold them for the rest
of their lives. I liked the Idea. But it was not the same now, because
Lees and Lyns didn't have that choice any more.
I decided to write to XecLee and tell that I have just now been
informed of the assignment between us. I also wrote about my mom's
suggestion about marriage and vows between us, even tho the computer
assigned us together. Telling that I do not know anything about XecLee
and was wondering if a return letter could be requested about this
suggestion XecLee and his family for me to better understand my future,
cross that, my current mate.
XecLee wrote back to me almost immediately. *My LesLyn, You have but
to ask of me and I will try to fulfill your request as my mate. I will
have all arrangements made for the vows to be said this coming Thursday
per your Mother Lyns suggestion. It will have to be at the new
apartment. Because of everyone in your class being busy it will only be
mine and your parents. Love XecLee*
My Lyn Mom was excited. Mom said that she got a letter from XecLee
and that almost everything was set and there was nothing left to do now
except to wait. I was so excited I couldn't wait; I had nerves like you
would not believe. Then Thursday finally came. Mother woke me up with
excitement. She was dressed in a long flowing dress, one like I wore for
special school dances. She said that I had to get up right now and
follow her. We followed the tubes till we came to X3 tunnel. There we
went to room R91.
*But Mom* I said *XecLee is in room 95*
Mom Said *XecLee was able to get this room for use today. There is
no one in here to worry about, but there is something special for you*
We opened the door and I stopped. I thought that there was a person
standing there. But there was what looked like a really large doll. I
had the most beautiful white dress on that I had ever seen. I was all
the way down to the floor, and had lace all over it. It must have cost
someone the credits for 10 years just to buy that lace.
*Ohhhh it's the most beautiful dress that has ever been made.* I
squealed.
*Well there is a lot more, so let's get busy.* Mom said.
Mom was wonderful; she washed my hair, perfumed and powered me, and
had me looking like a queen form one of my early reading books. I was
overjoyed.
Mom told me to follow here, and stay in step with the music when I
heard it.
I heard it when I opened the door, standing there ways my Moms Lee,
all decked out in a suite with long coat tails. Daddy Lee looked so
great. I slipped my arm into his elbow and we walked to R95 where the
music was coming from with the door open. The people in the tunnel
stopped and looked at us, (and stared at me) but I didn't mind a bit. I
already loved my mate to be, for what XecLee had already done. Some one
handed me a bushel of flowers when I entered. Not just any flowers, but
roses, One of the hardest flowers to get, and there must have been at
least a dozen of them. I was still walking with the sound of this music.
I sounded like a march, but a march for Lyns, so beautiful were the
stanzas. I then saw XecLee up front. XecLee looked like a Confused Lee
to me. But the most beautiful confused Lee there was. Before I knew it
I was standing beside XecLee.
The computer terminal said *Do you XecLee take this Lyn to be your
mate, to love, honor and cherish as long as you both shall live?*
XecLee said *I do with all my heart.*
The computer terminal then said *Do you LesLyn take this Lee as your
mate to love, honor and cherish as long as you both shall live?*
With all that XecLee had done for me already in just a short week I
said *I also do with all of my heart*
The computer terminal then said *I pronounce you mated for life.*
The computer terminal then added *To the parents I now give you
XecLee and LesLynXec, XecLee, you may now kiss your life mate LesLynXec*
I have never felt so loved in all my life as XecLee slowly give me a
kiss to remember.
XecLee then whispered softly into my ear *And tonight is our wedding
night, and will bring each other such joys as you ever dreamed possible.*
You know what XecLee was wrong, because each day and night after
that was better than the previous.
I was allowed to raise our children and only work part time, but
XecLee was always the one to carry and have the babies for nine months,
only stopping the week it was due to deliver. But I was always the one
to take care of them. XecLee was all was to busy for anything. XecLee
was always on to many councils and always in so much demand. But then
again after the forth one that the computer insisted that XecLee carry
for me, I was never alone.
