Another customer. The man tenses in the dark, waiting. In the back room,

When the store fails to break even in its first year, Linda sells his
father's house. She moves into a trailer park with Allison, leaving the
man behind in the city.
Apartments are expensive and work is scarce. The man is evicted. After

She laughs at him, but invites him to stay in the trailer with her and

During the day, he helps Fernando, the park's handyman, with routine
repairs. At night, he buries his head in his pillow while Allison and

It's his cell phone this time. In the middle of changing the baby,

When the man wakes up, he realizes he's not in Mexico anymore.
There are two passports in the cup holder of Fernando's car. One of them

Fernando notices he's awake. The man tries to say something, but his

"They wanted to wake you at the border," Fernando says. "I told them you
needed your sleep."
Fernando hands him a bag of chips and gestures to a bottle of Coke in
the other cup holder, next to the passports. The man is ravenous. He
tears into the chips. Crumbs sprinkle his chest, fall into his cleavage.

Fernando doesn't partake. He gets his high later, grunting behind the
