Breathing was difficult. A short panting action was the easiest method
simply because I could no longer take a deep breath.
"This will give you plenty of practice for when you get to wear a corset.
You have plenty to learn before you get to that stage but be under no
illusions, your bra strap and belt will get no looser at any time and, as
you progress, they will be taken in by several more notches"
"I can't breathe properly now, Sister. Please loosen them of a bit!"
"If you couldn't breathe, Frilly, you wouldn't be able to speak, would
you?"
"No, Sister."
"Now sit! Knees and feet together at all times or I shall be most
displeased."
The only chair around was the one with the sloping seat. That meant that
I was going to have to push upwards all the time so that I didn't slide
off the front at the same time as I had to remember to keep my knee and
feet together and also remember to breathe differently! She had my total
attention.
"You will now have an initial lesson about make-up and then a lesson
about walking in heels. At the moment you only have very low heels but as
you improve, and you will improve, we will give you higher heels to
practice in."
"Stay there. I shall return shortly."
I sat and pushed to keep myself on the seat and thinking that she could
return at any moment, kept my knees and feet together. This got harder
and harder as time passed and my thighs were aching by the time she
returned steering a trolley loaded with obvious make-up items and a large
mirror which she placed against the wall under the window.
"Your first lesson is to thoroughly clean your face with these facial
pads until you cannot see any dirt on them after a really good wipe.
Bring your chair over to the trolley, sit down and then use a many wipes
as you need. Tell me when you are satisfied your face and neck are
completely clean."
"Yes, Sister."
I couldn't understand why I was being so compliant. Why wasn't I trying
to escape? Why was I just giving in and doing everything I was told. I
tried to think about that but it just seemed too much trouble.
I picked up my chair, walked across to the trolley and sat down, ready to
start.
"What did I say about your knees and feet together? Perhaps this will
make you remember!"
She reached under the chair and wound a handle which raised the back of
the seat by about an inch. I started to slide and had to push even harder
to remain in position. The message was loud and clear. Do as I am told -
or else!
Pressing down, feet and knees together, short shallow breaths and
cleaning my face and neck took all my concentration. I carried on wiping
and checking until I was satisfied that there was no more dirt to be seen
on the white surface of the pad.
I was then shown how to apply basic make-up using a damp sponge. The idea
being, of course, to produce a smooth even finish on which the next
stages could be added. It took me about half a dozen tries before I
produced an end result which apparently was up to Sister Sarah's
expectations. I was then made to apply powder all over using a fluffy
'puff' as she called it, to 'set' it.
"You will now do this every morning and it will remain in place until you
go to bed at night. I will tell you when you need to apply more powder
but you will learn quickly when you need to do this for yourself."
"Yes, Sister."
By this time my thighs were really aching with the effort of keeping
myself on the seat and keeping my knees together in particular.
"Time for lunch."
I suddenly realised just how hungry I was and that I had eaten nothing
that morning at all. Sister went out for a moment and then returned with
a plate and cup. I could see immediately the pitifully small size of the
sandwich, almost devoid of filling, and the weak tea, which turned out to
have no sugar in it, only filling about three quarters of the cup.
"One of the reasons why we shall soon be able to reduce your belt and bra
strap is that you are on a strict diet for the time being. You will find
they are actually too big shortly and we will be able to reduce them
accordingly to improve your final figure. That will be nice, won't it,
Frilly?"
No, it wouldn't! My tummy rumbled after I had eaten my meagre rations and
I was most unhappy about losing weight as well. I was fairly trim for my
age as I used a bike to get around and this had kept me well exercised.
However, I didn't want that seat raised any higher, so I made the
expected answer.
"Yes, Sister."
"You took your time answering that, Frilly. I expect you to answer me
immediately in future. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Sister."
"This afternoon you will practice walking. As I told you, you have quite
low heels at the moment but I expect to see you walking in a really
feminine way very soon. That means every time and all the time. I will
leave you to imagine the various methods we have to ensure that you do so
if necessary and I promise you that some of them are, shall we say, less
than enjoyable. Do as you are told and it will be easy."
Somehow, I had the feeling that it wouldn't be easy at all and that I
would come across some of the less delightful methods she had mentioned
before very long, however hard I tried.
As if to highlight this, she carried on.
"As you improve, you will be given higher heels to learn in. When you
have finished your training you will be wearing four or five inch
stilettos all day, every day, as a matter of course. Your Achilles
tendons will have shortened naturally such that you will find it quite
awkward to wear low heels for any reason."
Oh, Joy! I've seen women strutting about town in stilettos and the
thought of having to wear them and walk as they do filled me with dread.
"Of course, stilettos are usually worn with a straight or tight skirt
which gives a natural restriction to a woman's stride length but you are
going to learn free of that as your skirts will neither tight nor long
enough. That is, of course, unless you fail to reach the required
standards quickly enough, in which case you can look forward to some
rather different circumstances."
I shuddered!
"Now stand up and we'll start you training."
