A young woman with a secret had been trapped by cruel sexist misogynistic
religious and cultural customs for most of her adult life. She makes a
difficult decision to risk everything for her freedom. It may even cost
her her very life. But what else does she have to lose?
Introduction
For the millionths time in five years, she wondered how what God she
pissed off, or what she did in a previous life for fate to choose such a
cruel life for her. She asked why, every single day of her life now. It
was going to be time to get out of bed soon, but she had a few more
minutes left to reflect on the absolute horror that her life had become.
Why was she chosen to be deprived of a normal life of security and safety
that other people have in her Country? Everyone that should have
protected her turned on her. Those who should have stood up for her, and
helped and protected her chose to sacrifice her life for their comfort
and status in life.
She fanned her fingers out as she hugged her pillow tight. She wasn't
admiring her newly manicured red nails. She was asking the Fates, "Is
this all I am ever going to be?"
But she knew the answer was no. She had chosen to take an unalterable
decision this morning. It had been in its planning stages for months now,
and it was time to take the final irrevocable step to putting the plan
into action.
She hugged her pillow tighter as she slowly rocked back and forth on the
bed as she reflected on the horror of her life and how she got to be in
this position. The day when her Mother, her own mother told her that she
was going to marry a man instead of a woman. She had pleaded and begged.
But, the contracts were already signed with the other family. Everything
was set up. The problem was she was only ten. That was when her life was
decided for her. Her bitch mother chose it all for her even if it should
have never been done. She was not attracted to men and didn't want this
life. Her mother was cruel, selfish and didn't care for her children at
all. Her life was sacrificed for the good of the family. Or, just for her
mothers status in society. Years of relentless beatings and relentless
cruelty enforced that she never had a choice. By the time she was
eighteen, she was very feminine submissive and accepted her female status
in life. She was married to this brutal corrupt husband and watched him
rise to control the entire company he worked for. Her husband was
relentless, ambitious and entirely selfish and corrupt. She was helpless
in this culture. But, it was the culture and most women's lives were
chosen for them, and they had no choice but to accept their parents
choise of a husband. The only problem was, she was not born as a female.
She was male until ten years old. She was not born with the name Mishka.
Her birth name was Rajesh. She was male when her mother committed her to
a same sex marriage to a man. She was chosen because she had soft
beautiful skin and a feminine completion. She was chosen because her
husband's family was a very powerful caste and he was secretly gay. He
was the husband, and she was the wife. She did everything to resist it,
but the years of cruel beatings wore down her resistance that by
eighteen, she wore a saree, and married her husband.
She was still not female, but only a few select people really knew it.
She grunted as she rocked back and fourth. She heard a groan of pleasure
behind her. She turned and whispered, "Are you about done yet, Johar?"
"Yes, my beautiful," he replied in a rasping breath as he grunted. "I am
just about there." This had been happening for almost an a full hour. He
grunted louder and shot his full load into her and she felt him slowly
pull his eight inches out of her.
They got out of bed together and started to prepare for the day. She got
her husbands attention. "Johar, May I please have a word with you?"
"Sure my sweet." He turned his attention to her. She saw his cold
heartless eyes. She didn't expect this to go anywhere, but may as well
try. There was nothing else to lose. She had lost everything.
"I honestly don't know why I am trying to talk to you," she said coldly.
"You have never given me anything I ever asked for. I just hope I can
reason with you now."
"Most of what you asked for was totally unreasonable," he replied.
"No it wasn't," she snapped. "I asked you to deprive my family of any
profit or money from this marriage. That was within your power."
"No it wasn't," he snapped at her. "That was my father's decision. They
gave the money to your family. It wasn't my decision and I couldn't get
it back."
"Yes you could," she sneered. "With your power, your friends you could
have forced my mother to return any money from this marriage. Sure you
could."
"But why?" he demanded.
"You know why. My mother decided to sacrifice my life for her family's
status. It isn't right and no mother should ever sacrifice a child's
future for another. It is wrong. She deserves to pay, but I know what
kind of person you are. You don't care and would do it yourself," Mishka
replied.
"What do you want to talk about?" Johar asked her.
"I have some people coming and I simply want you to make sure it goes
well," Mishka told him. "I want you to help back me up to make sure this
man does not give me any trouble."
He knew these people and they were associates from the company he ran.
She helped negotiate contracts with the employees and other company's. It
seemed that every time she did that, it helped increase the company's
profits and helped them outbid or overcome his rivals in the business.
Some associates didn't like having a woman give them instructions, but he
made sure they listened to her, or they would be unemployed. "Sure my
love, I will make sure he listens to you." He knew that his wife was
always faithful. She never planned on betraying him, because no matter
how unhappy she was, she was ambitious as he was. She knew the company's
success was what her lifestyle rested on.
They showered separately and prepared for the day. He prepared for his
meetings and running his company and she prepared for her daily duties.
There was a knock on the door and Mishka let him in wearing her
traditional saree she wore when she was going to do business. She had
jewels hanging from her ears and across her face. She was the image of
feminine beauty.
Abdul walked in. He was the head accountant for the company. He managed
the company's stocks and the shareholders of the company. Abdul was one
of the most powerful men under her husband.
The man came in and sat down across from Mishka. He didn't like this
woman much but, there wasn't much he could do about it. She was his
bosses wife, but she couldn't do anything to him.
He sighed in contempt to her and asked, "You asked me to come talk to you
this morning, so tell me what you want to talk about so I can get on with
my day. This had better be important."
"I want you to do something for the company. It has to do with the bonds
that were recently released," Miskha said.
"I don't have to do anything for you." He glared when Johan came in and
approached Abdul. He glared at Abdul and said, "You listen here. Your
very position and salaery was all because of this woman. She got you
here. All you need to know is that she works for me. If she tells you to
do something. It is because I wanted it. I told her what to do, you
better listen to her. What she wants you to do is what I requested. Do
you understand?" Johan demanded.
"Yes Sir," he replied.
"Good," Johan smiled. "You better not give her any more trouble. You will
do as she tells you. It is what I want." Then he picked up his suitcase
and walked out.
This was it. Once she did this, it was irrevocable. It could probably
cost Miska her very life. "I want you to take twenty five present of
those bonds that are about to go public, hold them and put them in this
account." She gave him the account number and name to transfer them to.
"Then, I want you to take five hundred million Rupees and transfer them
to these two accounts. And Give this information to Rakesh. Do you
understand, Abdul?"
This was quite a request. Did Rajesh really tell her to give him these
instructions? Johan said he did. He didn't like it one bit. He looked at
this arrogant woman and said, "Does your husband really expect me to do
this? I know these are things he doesn't want to be personally involved
in. They are illegal, I could be arrested."
"You could have been arrested a dozen times already, Abdul with what you
do. Distributing drugs to the employees. Bringing prostitutes and
rewarding the top employees with a beautiful woman. One of them was only
twelve. And I know what else you do. The buildings, you steal materials,
and money from the projects and put them in your personal accounts. Not
using enough rebar and steal for supports. We could turn you in for
that." Mishka looked. Her eyes hard and unyielding. She knew all of the
secrets he did his best to hide. Everyone did it in the construction
business.
"Okay, okay, I will do it. Just tell me the account numbers and names and
I will do all of this."
"Good, just remember, it isn't your ass on the line. It is ours, These
are my husband's explicit instructions. He just doesn't want to be
involved."
"I understand, I will keep it quit." Abdul walked away.
Mishka had a smile on her face. It was a dark evil smile. Her Husband was
going to be going away very very soon. She was going to be free, and have
it all. Or, it was going to be all discovered and her husband would
quietly arrange her death. Either way, she was going to be free. She was
risking it all, and it wasn't all that much to begin with. Her life
sucked, it was worth risking.
Her next appointment was knocking on the door and she opened it to let
them in. This was her family, who she called days prior to have a
discussion. A few other people were present, they were here as backup
from her husband. Not that she expected this. Her siblings were
supportive of her and understood. They just couldn't go against their
mother. Things were about to change.
Rakesh the second youngest, he was 24, two years older than Mishka was.
He sat across from her. Sohan, 26 the second oldest and Rakeem was the
eldest son. They were all married and living the life she would have
lived if she wasn't sacrificed to give her mother the wealth and life she
wanted.
Then there was her father Deleep. Their mother wasn't here. This was
supposed to be a private meeting.
He took charge and demanded in a dominant tone, "Mishka tell us for what
reason you called us all here."
"Theres a few things I need to know," she replied. "I think that I
already know. You didn't support this life for me?" It was a question.
"No, I tried to argue with your mother," Deleep replied. "But you know
her when she made up her mind. There was nothing anyone could do."
"Yes there was, you needed to approve, and you could have refused. You
were the husband and you know how things work here. Why didn't you fight
her?" Miskha demanded in a very angry tone. She almost yelled.
He hated admitting this, but he figured almost everyone knew. "She
threatened me," Deleep said.
Mishka sneered.
"Seriously, She is very controlling and made me do demeaning things for
her. I cleaned her, washed her and did her nails and polished them. Very
demeaning things for a man to do," He replied. "And she threatened to lie
and said I painted my own nails. Then, you know how controlling she was.
She said she would start spanking me."
Almost all of the boys laughed. "You could have physically overpowered
her. Almost every other man in this country does so."
"But you also know the status of our marriage," Deleep replied. "You
know. She is a higher caste than me. She holds the power in the marriage
and I was always under her control. I never wanted to marry her at all.
She is so controlling."
Mishka shut him up, "Shut up. Letting her control you is alright. But not
fighting for the lives of your children when she is betraying them isn't
forgivable. You should have stepped up and refused to allow it. That you
meekly allowed her to sell your son into this horror of a life is not
forgivable. Father, you must pay for your cowardess and betrayal. These
men will take you now. Don't fight them. We must say goodbye, for ever."
Two of her husband's security materialized around her father Deleep and
lead him away. His fate had already been determined.
Her remaining family looked at their sister with looks of horror. What
sat before them all was a woman devoid of mercy, of caring or even love.
She was cold, cruel and very malicious. She was what her mother made her.
They always knew that Mishka, or as Rajesh as they knew her from
childhood. She was always the brightest and strongest of the siblings.
They knew their mother made a mistake choosing her for this fate. They
knew what Mishka had inside, her strength and will. She refused to break,
even if she had to. Mishka would find a way to get her back. Losing the
husband she loved was one of the first blows to her, and it was a very
cruel blow. There was going to be much more pain to come her way.
Mishka said in the stunned horrified silence, "If this is going to work,
we must stick together. If this fails, you know I will die. But if I die,
don't let it be for nothing. I want you, Sohan to move to the United
States. Bring official attention to what is going on here. These forced
marriages, not transforming males into females for forced marriages. Tell
them my story, make it public. I have lived this horror for five damn
years. It is time."
Her siblings left, and she knew she was about to raise hell.
From the Author. This is my intro to my first attempt at writing a story.
I hope someone cares enough to give me some input. I have a story in
mind, I just have to write it and I hope I can get the help of a more
experienced author.
And maybe help me with writing about a culture I dont know much about. I
have read a few books of Indian Hindu culture, so I hope I dont sound too
stupid to a native Indian reader.
