I wasn't sure how I felt about things now in the aftermath. Sabina was the
first Demonian Queen not to be fully educated at the Demonian Kitten
Academy since Queen Jada.
True her first three years of what most universes called High School were
completed at the Demonian Academy. But her last year was being finished at
Malissa's Academy for Exceptional Girls. And her mother Kasha, now the
Queen Mother, was holding the throne in her place between long weekends.
Now I tried to hurry and get things back on track for this year.
I needed to make arrangements for Chantilly to keep Runt with her in
class. Which meant I needed to make other exceptions for the rest of the
Kittens as well.
It was still early afternoon on Millday, so I called a meeting of the
Mistresses.
"In view of certain events, I am having to make certain adjustments," I
began. "I am lightening the required room inspections. There will be only
one per week, on Tellday, that will be official. However, I expect to see
that the kittens keep up their Rooms between inspections. They will also
receive an additional ten minutes between classes." I held up my hands to
curtail the outburst of protests.
"The reason for this is because my Daughter Kitten, Chantilly Lace will
have her Gambichow with her at all times this year, and it is between
classes that she will be tending to his special needs," I looked at the
rest.
"His?" came from over a dozen mouths at the same time.
"Yes, 'His' special needs. And no one is to interfere if she needs to
leave class, nor is he to be disturbed for someone's curiosity."
"I am taking a volunteer from the current Kitten Mistress staff to fill in
for Kitten Mistress Chichi until she returns from Earth."
"Oh Please Mistress, please choose me," begged Kitten Mistress Brennie.
"She is very skilled in administrative tasks," offered Mistress Dillandra
whom she had been working for while the Kittens were in classes during the
day. "And she enjoys finding reasons to be spanked."
"Very well Mistress Brennie, please call Chichi and have her fill you in
on your new Administrative Duties. And Kitten, I will dine with the
seniors in the morning," I told her.
Then I said, "I am holding a special meeting with the Demonian Kittens,
and any Kitten whose cougar is a Gambichow Bondmate."
It only took about twenty minutes for all of the Kittens to arrive. Most
already zeroing in on Runt in Chantilly's arms. I knew it would be safe to
have him here with Sulltan. Fiona would be leaving for Earth again in a
few months after Sadie's litter was weened, and then we would have three
juvenile Gambichow's on campus. No four I corrected myself remembering
Skitter had already impressed one of Diggers unborn Kittens.
I filled them in on Breezy/Breezer for those who might not have heard yet.
And then as if waiting for just this moment in time Digger stood up and
began nudged four kittens with her nose before leading them from the room.
"Momma," began Fillandra.
"Go Kitten, she needs the hearth to be warm," I reminded her. Of course it
wasn't really warm to a Gambichow unless the temperature was above a
hundred degrees. Which was one reason why I'd had the hearth ledges made
so large. Also there were steel rods that collected the heat and channeled
it into the stone of the hearth ledge.
For a creature whose natural habitat was extremely hot during the day to
extremely cold at night, Chows really loved the Snow as well as the winter
months of other worlds.
I wondered now how Runt would adapt to Iridani, he'd been born on Halcion.
I remembered Precious' initial difficulties when she first began adapting.
Of course the Demonian Academy was already used to having Gambichow's, all
the common rooms had a rather large Hearth that was kept heated during the
day.
I jumped with Chantilly to Fillandra's Room that she had as a Dorm
Mistress. The kittens were there but Digger was not. "Fillandra?" I
questioned.
"She has gone to find one more Momma," she answered.
"Ok, I better get back to Precious before she gets jealous."

The Easy Company's Charge of Quarters Cadet was startled by the sudden
appearance of a Gambichow in his hallway as Digger advanced with a purpose
toward a specific room in the barracks.
Cadet Lt Tracy Collins was awakened by the insistent scratching at her
door. When she opened it in her nightie she was startled to find a
Gambichow there. In her mind she heard a single word, "Come". Reaching out
she touched her neck and suddenly the pair were gone.
Grabbing up the phone he called the Duty Officer.
"Sir, a Gambichow just appeared in the barracks and disappeared with Cadet
Lt Collins," he reported.
A moment later another phone began ringing.
"Pierce Residence," answered Sophie.
"We need the Colonel ASAP,"
"Captain, this better be good," said Donnie taking the phone.
"A Cadet has been abducted from the barracks."
"Details, talk to me Captain Forest, what happened?" demanded Donnie as he
began scrambling out of bed heading for the closet.
"Colonel," someone else interrupted on the other end.
"Devlin, you know something about this matter?" asked Donnie.
"Sir, Mistress Fillandra's Chow, Digger has gone into labor. She chose
Cadet Collins to become a Foster Mother for when she goes hunting," he
explained.
"Have everyone stand down and go back to sleep. I'll call Mistress
Gwendolyn and be sure that Collins is alright," said Donnie.

I was getting the kittens in place at the edge of the hearth when Digger
returned. I could see the startled look in Cadets Lt Collins eyes as she
realized where she was.
"Come sit down, join the Kittens Miss Tracy," I encouraged her. "Are you
excited?"
"Will, will I really get to care for Carlie as she grows up?" asked Tracy.
Skitter giggled and looked up at me. I was surprised since the first
kitten had yet to be born.
Then as the first one was born I called Momma.
"Momma, Lt Collins is here," I informed her.
"I have already talked with the Colonel, he knows that she will be
fostering a Kitten," Momma said.
"Momma, she named the kitten before even the first one was born," I
informed her.
"Does Lt Collins jump?"
"No Momma, but she is a Chameleon," I answered. "I will let Devlin know
that he needs to begin teaching her to use Carlie's ability."

Sabina was making her rounds of the planets in the Demonian System, a
tradition to be sure she knew the condition of her people. And at the same
time she was trying to use her laptop to stay caught up with her school
work.
In the last few days a cocoon of sorts had formed to encase Breezer as he
transformed. From time to time he would stir a bit within only to have
Destinee there to comfort him.
Kasha was sitting with Destinee as she cared for Breezer on the hearth,
when she finally took note of the details of the ring she wore on her left
hand. Seeing the 'Flame' sigil and the intricate etching she gasped with
surprise.
'Where would Destinee have gotten Cardurann's ring?' she quickly did the
math in her own head. Destinee was twelve, five years younger than Sabina.
She had last seen Cardurann seven years ago at Sabina's tenth birthday.
Sure she knew there were other lovers in his life, he was a Rogue, a
Scoundrel. Could Destinee be one of his children? Or could she be related
to him some other way? How much had her mother really known about Destinee
when she chose to adopt her?
As with all the Shelter Kitten's their records were sealed when they
entered the shelter. But how had Destinee come to be here? She really
needed to know now, but she didn't want to frighten her.
She went to the Archives and submitted her request. It was thirty minutes
later that the file was hand delivered to her office.
Taking a deep breath now that she was alone at her desk, she opened the
file as she watched Destinee caring for Breezer.
Destinee Fell-Fire, age five, had been placed in Foster Care by, the name
was all blanked out, but the date was almost six months after Cardurann
had left. Funds for the Foster Care had been paid out of a Royal Account
belonging to, again the name was blanked out. But the monthly sum was
extravagant for a foster care payment.
She flipped back to the first page to look at the updated information
date. It coincided with Destinee's entrance into the Kitten Shelter. But
it was the initials next to each update, 'DA' that drew her attention.
Her hands shaking, she now opened the right hand bottom drawer of her
desk, the desk that had belonged to her mother. This was the first time
she'd ever gone into the drawers of this desk. She remembered her mother
once telling her that if anything ever happened, there was information
there in the bottom right hand drawer that she would need for the future.
There wasn't anything there but the run of the mill collection of
correspondences from Mistresses and Cougars. She was about to close the
drawer when a seeming scrap of paper caught her attention, 'Circle of
Fire'. It was hand written in her mother's own hand.
It was the name of a book about the rise of Jada to the Throne of Demonia.
She'd not read it in years, but here it was referenced on a scrap of
paper. She was about to call her Kitten Sharleen to fetch her copy when
she spotted a copy on her mother's bookshelf.
Destinee knew that she'd been reading her file, she now watched her every
move, afraid that she was about to be disowned or something.
Pulling the book from the shelf, Kasha carried it to the desk before
opening it at the satin ribbon bookmark. There pressed between the pages
was a birth certificate.
Fell, Destinee
Mother; Fell, Zandra
Father; Fire, Cardurann
It contained both parent's signatures and the seal of Demonia. Removing
the certificate she was about to close the book when she found a letter
pressed between pages farther back. This letter too was hand written, but
in Cardurran's hand.
'Dressella,'
'Please forgive me, I would do anything in my power for Kasha. You wanted
to know why I am also in a relationship with Zandra Fell, and I will be
honest with you. I am the last Seeker of the Fire Clan, but I will not and
cannot place that burden on Sabina or Devlin. Our people need them.'
'As you have no doubt discovered, Destinee is my child. More importantly,
she is to become one of the next Seekers of the Fire Clan. But I am afraid
I will not live to see her take my place, I have just learned that the
Loki Cylon has placed a bounty on the members of every Seeker Clan. That
is why I have Chosen Zandra and begun to train her to be a Seeker, why
Destinee Fell now wears an Imprint ring of the Fire Clan, and will become
the next Seeker after myself and her mother.'
'I trust you to keep them safe for me, as I have done Sabina and Devlin by
choosing another to become the next Seeker.'
'Cardurann Fire'
It wasn't the ring Cardurann wore, this was another ring of his family,
his Clan. But this meant that Destinee was Sabina and Devlin's half-sister
and her mother had known about it all this time.
"Destinee, please come here," she requested her own emotions showing in
her face as well as evident in her voice. Then she gathered her up in her
lap.
"Are you disappointed in me?" Destinee asked.
"No Sweetie," answered Kasha pressing her forehead to the girls.
"Th, then why were you reading my records?"
Kasha caressed the ring on the girl's finger, "Your Sister Sabina's father
wore a ring just like this one. I was curious to know if it came from the
same place," she explained.
"My Daddy gave me this ring, he said never take it off," Destinee was
crying now and Kasha hugged her tighter, her own tears flowing.
"Cardurann Fire is Devlin and Sabina's father too. And that makes you very
special to me. I loved your father, and I love you," she assured the young
girl. "And you are every bit as special as your Sister, maybe even more
so."
Kasha had known he was a Seeker, knew that it was a calling he couldn't
ignore. She also knew that if there was a bounty on Seekers, Destinee was
in danger. And she wasn't about to chance losing this last link to
Cardurann. But she didn't fully trust the Sisters of the Light, especially
the way they'd gone about getting Tizzy Pierce to their Temple the moment
she'd arrived. But who could she confide in? How could she find someone to
give Destinee the knowledge she needed and still keep her safe?
Very few people knew that Destinee wasn't accompanying Sabina on her tour.
At each stop they were only told that she was tending to her Gambichow.
Breezer stirred on the hearth, and Destinee hurried to be with him.
Now picking up the phone she called the one person she trusted most.

"Kasha!" Gwendolyn answered happily before noting the stressed worried
look in her eyes.
"Gwendolyn, I need to get in contact with Ambassador Ray, it is urgent,"
she said. "And you two seemed rather close while you were here."
"Kasha, he isn't in my bed. But I can get hold of him and have him call
you. But please tell me, what is wrong?" her old school friend asked.
"Destinee, she is Cardurann's daughter," she said.
"Oh my gods, I'm so sorry," misunderstood Gwendolyn at first.
"Gwen, I'm not upset about that. It has to do with Seekers and Ta Ray is a
Seeker. I have to talk to him."
Just then Ta stepped out of the bathroom behind her still buttoning his
shirt.
"Your Majesty," he made a bow to the screen.
"I thought you said he wasn't in your bed?"
"He wasn't when you called, he was in my shower," blushed Gwendolyn.
"Excuse me, Kasha you said you needed a Seeker, why?" he asked.
"Destinee 'Fire'-Arteria is the youngest daughter of Seeker Cardurann
Fire," she said emphasizing the name Fire.
"Please tell me that you haven't informed the sisters of the light about
this," he said with a sudden urgency.
"No they've been acting strange, I don't trust them with this at the
moment," she answered. "Not with my youngest Daughter."
"We will be there as soon as possible, please tell no one about her. But I
have to get Tizzy Pierce to come with me. But Trader needs to stay here
and watch over two other new seekers. There is something strange going on
here that we haven't figured out yet."

At the Diner;
Tizzy had just left without explanation, shifting to a full panther form
as she raced toward the Academy but Ta hadn't been quick enough to get her
attention. Just in case he needed to know something, he stepped into the
diner to confer with Trader.
"Son, what is happening?" then he spotted Colleen sitting with her parents
and younger sister.
"Dad, Tizzy has gone to help the Trident Seeker," grinned Trader. "She was
unaware of things and her lack of being around Crystal has allowed her to
repress her clan markings until recently."
"She's here? And you let Tizzy go to collect her, and explain things?"
"Tizzy is a fully trained Seeker, just somewhat inexperienced," stated
Trader.
For the first time Colleen and Tammy saw Sweetgum, but they didn't get a
chance to be introduced.
"I need to take Tizzy with me to Demonia. Kasha has discovered the truth
about the Princess and requested information," stated Ta. Then he winked,
"She is also suspicious of the Sisters of Light."

Standing outside the doors to the dorm now that Sweetgum had led him to
it, Ta was startled to see the three Wigiwa approaching. Just then Tizzy
stepped outside with Theresa.
The three quickly held a discussion about what was happening. Ta had
already explained to Miss Malissa over the phone what was going on,
without going into detail.
Now he made a snap decision only to have one of the Wigiwa reveal herself
as a Seeker of the Tree Clan. Taking out his phone he called Trader.
The Tree Clan Seekers always had what were referred to as Seeker
assistants, many having just as much talent as the full Seeker. Now he
realized that these three were just such a trio.
"Son, I'm taking them first to Mophra, then to Demonia. I have the Tree
Clan Seeker with us."
"The Tree Clan?"
"Yes," grinned Ta. "They were the first Clan to be lost. They were also
the newest of the Seeker Clans before the Delphi Raiders began appearing.
My guess is that Cylon thought the Seekers had Galaxia's Command Key." He
fingered his own Drive Crystal Key for emphasis.

Aboard Werewolf;
"Commander Lash, is Sabina safe?" asked Kasha.
"Yes your Majesty. Is there a threat?" answered Petrinna.
"Not at the moment, but please keep her away from the Sisters of the
Light. Also we need her here as soon as she can return," stated Kasha.
Now Commander Lash knew something was up for the Royal tour to be
interrupted.
"As you wish," she was busy contacting Princess of Pain. "We'll be home as
soon as we can get turned around."
Ahead of the Royal Transport, Blood Ruby, Princess of Pain was responding.
"Yes Petrinna?" asked Commander Shale.
"We are being recalled to Demonia Two, the Queen Mother sounded as if it
was urgent but said there wasn't any danger. But to avoid the," her comm
suddenly became nothing but static.
"Oh shit, Raiders, we've got Raider Ships lighting up," screamed the
ComTech.
Simultaneously both Commanders hit their new Command Boost Overrides as
they locked onto Blood Ruby.
Princess of Pain had already input the Demonia Two coordinates into the
Phase Jump controller. Now all three shot through the Phase portal that
appeared on the Freeway in front of them. The initial blasts from the
Raiders hit nothing but empty freeway. But still that section of freeway
was now gone, a huge void appearing as it expanded making it impossible
for any other traffic to jump the gap.

Blood Ruby;
Sabina had no idea why she was suddenly thrown against the rear wall of
her state room. Everything suddenly became a blur as the three Transports
hit their emergency speed shooting into the new portal.
"Commander Tangelo, what is happening?" she requested urgently as armed
Guardians were suddenly at the door. More rushing to their combat
stations.
"We picked up Raider ship signatures your Highness. Our escorts acted just
in time."
"What do you mean?" she was busy wiping at the trickle of blood running
down from her forehead.
"The section of freeway we were on no longer exists," answered Commander
Lash.
"ATTENTION ALL TRANSPORTS: The Demonian Transport Blood Ruby has just been
'Attacked by Delphi Raiders'. The Queen is safe, but we need to stop all
traffic between D-7 and D-8 that section of Freeway no longer exists."

Falcon's fighter craft jumped into the fight, they'd been tracking the
Raiders trying to locate the powered down ships and the secret base in the
nearby Asteroid field.
Now they had attacked the Demonian Queens Convoy. Still as Falcon and his
fighters began fighting the Raiders, Tracker and Intergalactic Defense
Fighters raced in to help.

Demonia Two Traffic Control;
"What's happening? The Portal just began refusing outbound traffic,"
called one of the officers monitoring the flow.
"Emergency: Outbound Traffic Stopped. Clear the Portal area for Emergency
Phase Activation," blared the warning from the Portal itself.
"Reroute everything, whatever is coming in is big," yelled the primary
controller.
"Sir, the freeway between D-7 and 8 is down," it was like a bomb going off
in the room.
"Notify the Palace to secure the Queen Mother and the Princess NOW!"

Even before the transports had dropped through the portal Kasha was
startled to find Sabina and her Personal Guardians and Chows appearing in
her Office Den.
"Mother, Destinee you are both safe?" asked Sabina rushing to them.
"Sabina, kitten what happened to your forehead?" Kasha was instantly
maternal.
"We were attacked by Raiders Momma."
Destinee rushed into her arms, hugging her tightly.
Outside the palace, Ta Ray and his group appeared at the top of the steps.
Holding their hands out he requested of the very highly alert Guardians,
"We have urgent business with the Queen Mother. She is expecting us."
"Is this really Demonia?" asked Tessa in wonder.
"Yes Gran," answered Theresa having been here before.
"Ambassador Ray, you vouch for your guests?" he was asked.
"With my life," he responded. "But what is happening?" he'd never seen
such a highly visible guardian presence.
"Queen Sabina was attacked while on tour," they were informed.
"Then I am happy that we chose to jump here and not directly to Kasha's
office."
As they were led into the office Destinee looked up. "I remember you two
from before," she said of Ta and Tizzy.
"Greetings little Sister, I am happy to meet you," Tessa Loving was on her
knees.
"Are we related?" Destinee was looking around at everyone.
"Princess," began Ta Ray. "We are related through these," he held up his
ring and the others did the same. We are Seekers of different Clans here
to help you to learn what it is that your father and mother chose you
for."
She looked around at Kasha now.
"You are still my daughter, now and forever," she was assured. "But only a
fully trained Seeker can teach you what they lacked the time to do."
To Ta Ray she said, "I cannot bear to think of her having to leave to
learn what she needs to know."
"I will teach her personally so that she doesn't miss any schooling. But
until she is older, I think she can learn by studying the Fire Clan Seeker
Journals. I will go personally to the Temple to retrieve them from the
Fire Clan Vault for her," he told Kasha.
"I didn't know they kept journals," admitted Kasha.
Then Ta saw the book laying on the desk, 'Circle of Fire'. Smiling he
picked it up, quickly skimming it at separate places, his smile growing
larger. "She should probably start with this one since she was probably
the most power of the Fire Clan Seekers."
"You expect me to believe that our First Queen was a Seeker?"
Leading her gently by the hand he crossed to the portrait of Jada Fire.
Now he pointed to the ring on her left hand. The swirling Tattoo, barely
visible at the edge of her long sleeve. "Why do you suppose that she wore
such a wide ringed crown that dipped down in front?"
"But she couldn't go on Seeker Quests as a Queen," reasoned Kasha.
"No but by the time she became Queen, her youngest daughter Torri Fire,
was the Ranking Clan Seeker." "And it was as a Seeker that she seized the
Throne. King Arnott had seized all the Matrix from the Sisters of Light.
She led the Fire Clan Families to win them back, and took the name Arteria
after opening his as atonement for the Sisters he slew to take get the
Crystals. But I'm sure that information is not in this book. I will bring
you the true copy," promised Ta Ray.
Tizzy and the rest were fast becoming friends with Destinee and offering
her support and help.
"And I will visit as often as possible," promised Fern over the phone as
they were preparing to leave.
