The Xmas Gift:
I wanted to buy my girlfriend Samantha something sexy for Xmas, so I had
agreed to go with her to Ann Summers to pick out some really nice
lingerie for her. Samantha favoured fairly masculine looking pyjamas but
I thought something sexy would be more exciting. It was the first time I
had been in a lingerie shop since I was a little boy and in truth it was
either the lingerie department of Marks and Spencer or British Home
Stores.
I remember at the time being fascinated by the beautiful silky slips and
half slips. I remember staring at the bra and pantie sets and suspender
belts and touching the hosiery on display and wondering what it felt like
to wear these beautiful garments and feeling jealous of my mum and sister
who got to wear this stuff.
At the same time I also remember being embarrassed by my sister noticing
how I was staring too longingly at the lingerie on display teasing me and
saying to my Mum, "Eve wants to dress like a girl."
You see I was called Evelyn after Mum's favourite author Evelyn Waugh.
Anyway my childhood trips to lingerie departments stopped soon after that
and my Mum told Sarah that just because I was staring at the lingerie on
display did not mean I wanted to wear it. Boys dressed as boys and girls
dressed as girls and only freaks wore girls clothes if they were born
boys or boys clothes if they were born girls and she did not want to hear
another word from Sarah about me wanting to dress as a girl as she was
sure I didn't.
So back to the present, I was here with my girlfriend Sam holding up
slips against me and bodies trying to find something she liked. She
settled on a dark purple slip with a black lace trim and spaghetti straps
and left me holding it while she went to phone one of her friends.
At this stage my cheeks were starting to glow bright red as I stood
holding a hanger with a purple slip in the queue for the tills. (Sam was
actually photographing me although I only found that out later.). Then
Sam pulled out her loyalty card from the shop and handed it to me.
Next came the most humiliating moment of my life as the cashier did not
see me approach the till from behind the large fat woman in front of me
and only saw my girlfriend's loyalty card and said, "That's a beautiful
slip Miss Thomas." Before looking up and saying, "Oh I beg your pardon
sir, I was looking at my till and didn't see you approach and just saw
the garment and your loyalty card, I mean Miss Thomas's card. Besides
the garment obviously isn't your size you are buying it for Miss Thomas
aren't you. She's a size 8 and you would be a 12 if you were buying for
yourself which obviously you're not. Oh this is so embarrassing!"
I don't know who was more embarrassed, the pretty shop assistant or
myself.
She carefully wrapped the purchase in paper and put it in a box and gave
it to me In an Ann Summers bag. The reality that everyone was going to
see me wandering through the shopping centre with an Ann Summers bag in
my hands suddenly hit me.
The things we men do for love!
I eventually got used to it and Samantha took pictures of me pretending
to blow her a kiss while holding the bag.
Over the course of the next week whilst I was at work Samantha ordered an
Ann Summers loyalty card in my name Evelyn Tracey but as "Miss" not
"Mister". Then she made some purchases on it.
Then when I got home I saw a silky black lace trimmed full slip hanging
over my wardrobe door and when I opened my underwear draw I found a bra
and pantie set and a matching suspender belt and a pair of seamed nearly
black stockings still in their packet in my drawer.
"What's the meaning of this Samantha?" I asked.
"You know I prefer pyjamas yet you insisted on buying me a slip. I
figured if you like slips so much you should wear one."
"But I am a guy and slips are for girls," I said.
"The lady protests too much, methinks," Samantha replied, quoting Queen
Gertrude from Hamlet. "Look, if you wear the clothes I have bought for
you on your loyalty card whilst you wrap my present I will wear it on
Xmas night. If you refuse, next year's Xmas cards to our friends might
have this picture on them," she said showing me a picture she took of me
buying her slip.
Samantha did not need to threaten me as I was excited at the thought of
trying on these clothes I had been fascinated by as a little boy and it
wasn't long before I sat there wear my first bra and panties, my first
suspender belt and stockings and my first slip as I was made to pose as I
wrapped up Samantha's slip. I realised then that I was the freak my
mother feared and I was going to be spending a lot more time in lingerie
and would need a bigger wardrobe. Who wanted to wear boxer shorts again
after wearing lingerie?
Next year's Xmas cards to our friends, (who were mainly members of the
LGBT community anyway now I had been outed by Samantha) would reveal
Eve's first time in lingerie. I had dropped the second part of my name
as it sounded too masculine to me and I was now Miss Eve Tracey. We lost
some of our straight friends because of that but then they never
understood us anyway.
